After his first encounter with Logan in the library, Virgil found himself there a lot more often. He had been able to catch up on all his work weeks ago with the help of Logan. The ghost was apparently a huge nerd when he was alive, so he had been able to explain things to Virgil easily. Virgil was very lucky that the ghost turned out to be a harmless nerd instead of some creepy killer that seemed to be all people thought about when they imagined a ghost.

The two of them had actually grown somewhat close over the weeks Virgil would visit and hang out with him. They both were happy they got along so well. After all, Virgil had no friends in the school and if Logan tried to make any he would only terrify them. In fact, he had terrified Virgil the first time they had met, and Logan was sure any other attempts would not end nearly as well as it did with Virgil.

Despite the two being closer, there were still a lot of things Virgil was curious about that he hadn't asked yet. He had so many questions to ask Logan about what it was like being a ghost, but he wasn't sure if he should bring them up. What if he annoyed Logan by asking questions? What if a question he had made him uncomfortable? He was too worried about everything that could go wrong if he did ask, so he never did.

One night, however, Virgil finally had enough of being curious. He decided that immediately after school the next day he would visit the library to talk with Logan, as he usually did, and he would finally ask at least one of the questions he had in mind. Otherwise he was sure that it was going to drive him insane.

When the time actually came he felt a lot less determined than he had the previous night. He approached the library nervously, not sure whether he would actually be able to go through with his previous plan. Virgil stepped into the room carefully, looking around to find that, as usual, it was empty. He made his way to one of the empty tables in the middle of the room, hesitantly calling out. "Logan? You in here?"

"I am," Logan answered directly next to Virgil, and he jumped.

"I hate when you do that!" He huffed, sitting down and shaking his head at the ghost. Logan chuckled, and Virgil heard the chair beside of him slide across the floor as Logan sat down too.

"Sorry." He said, still barely stifling quiet laughter. "How are you today, Virgil?"

"Y'mean, aside from almost having a heart attack?" Virgil raised an eyebrow, and although he couldn't see it Logan was smiling. Which was rare, not that anyone would know that about him. He found that he seemed to smile a lot more in Virgil's presence anyways, although he wasn't sure why.

"Yes, ignoring that." He agreed, and Virgil frowned, suddenly remembering what he had just been worrying over a few moments before being scared.

"I've been... okay. I actually had something I wanted to talk about though. Or a few things, really." Virgil answered. He heard Logan shifting in his seat, pausing for a moment before he answered.

"Such as?" He wondered, and Virgil looked down at his hands, pulling his hoodie sleeves down over them.

"Well... its just a few questions I wanted to ask. But you don't have to answer any of them! Not if you don't want to. It's just... well I'm curious, and-" Virgil was cut off by Logan.

"Virge, it is alright. I expected you to ask questions a lot sooner than this. I don't mind." Logan assured him, and Virgil felt somewhat better. "So, what is your first question?"

"Uh..." Virgil hesitated. Logan said it was okay, but he still didn't want to cross a line. "Okay, you still don't have to answer these if you don't want to. I get that they're probably like, really personal or bring up bad memories, but uh..."

"Are you trying to ask me how I died?" Logan guessed, and Virgil felt his cheeks heat up uncomfortably. He nodded slowly, and the room was silent for a moment. Virgil was just about to apologize when Logan finally spoke again.

"I have a guess, but I don't really remember." He said honestly.

"You don't remember anything?" Virgil frowned. "Why?"

"I do not know. I can remember most of my life normally, but most of that day is... fuzzy. I can remember going to school that morning, and then nothing else. Except that the following day when I... woke up, I suppose, no one could hear or see me." It fell silent again for a while, neither really knowing what to say.

"Wait," Virgil started, remembering something. "No one could see you, but you said you could make yourself visible? And I can hear you. Why couldn't anyone then."

"I can do those things now, but I had to figure it out first. It took me a while. Staying visible for a long time is still very difficult, although I haven't really tried very much." Logan explained, and Virgil nodded slowly.

"Why don't you try to be visible more often?" Virgil wondered, and it took Logan a minute to answer.

"Why should I? To scare people away more? I... slightly prefer to stay invisible anyways..." He trailed off towards the end, getting quieter at every word.

"Why?" Virgil pushed, leaning toward Logan slightly. He nearly winced after saying it, Logan probably didn't want to talk about it, but Logan just sighed.

"I don't look... good." He responded simply, and Virgil assumed that was the only answer he was going to get out of that. He still had another question, but he wasn't sure he should ask it after hearing all of that. He opened his mouth to begin his question, but stopped, chewing his lip nervously.

"You can ask me whatever you'd like, Virgil. It will not bother me." Logan reassured him, and Virgil still looked hesitant. Still, he wanted to ask.

"Would you ever... I mean, you don't ever have to, but would you ever consider... showing me..? What you look like, I mean." He finally got out. He felt proud of himself for finally getting it out, but that feeling quickly faded away as he realized Logan hadn't answered. It stayed quiet like this for a few minutes, and Virgil was beginning to wonder if he should apologize, or if Logan was still even there.

"I'm-" Virgil started to apologize, but was once again cut off by Logan.

"Don't say sorry. It is fine. I was just... thinking." He started, and Virgil nodded, waiting for him to speak again. It was a much shorter wait this time. "You... would have to understand that I... I'm not going to look like you expect. I don't want to scare you."

"Why would you scare me..?" Virgil wondered.

"I don't... you would just have to see." He explained simply. Virgil nodded slowly, considering changing the subject. Logan yet again prevented him from speaking by talking himself. "If you would like to see now... I can show you."

"You can? I mean-you don't mind? If you want to wait, or just don't want to you don't have to Logan. Really, I don't mind."

"I do not mind. Would you like to see?" Slowly, Virgil nodded. "Alright. Just remember... don't be scared."

Virgil watched the chair beside of him, only having to wait a second before he started to see... something. At first he only saw a strange fog, looking about as tall as he was in his chair. Then it started to look more and more human, although still barely there, and Virgil could see through him. Logan grunted, almost as if he were in pain.

"Hold on," he managed, sounding out of breath. "It's.. taking me a moment." Then he went silent again, the form becoming more and more solid and real. Virgil stared in shock as the figure fully formed in front of him, leaning over in his chair and gripping his head.

"Logan..?" He asked, starting to reach out and then stopping himself. "Th-that's you..?"

Logan lifted his head, hands still gripping the sides painfully tight. "Yes," he gasped out, closing his eyes and shaking. It took him a moment but then he seemed to get it under control, finally able to stop shaking and breathe.

"I don't understand," Virgil frowned, looking him over. He could hardly believe himself as he realized that Logan was actually very attractive. He was a ghost-he should definitely be more weirded out about that, but he wasn't. "You look... pretty much exactly how I expected, with the huge glasses and nerdy outfit. Why would that scare me...?"

Logan didn't answer out loud, instead averting his eyes and sighing. Then, slowly, he let his hands move from his head to his sides, waiting to hear Virgil's reaction.

Virgil let out an audible gasp, jumping back from Logan. Logan saw him move away in the corner of his eye, and winced. Virgil would definitely find him disgusting now. He half expected Virgil to just run from him. He was surprised when instead he heard him pulling his chair closer, turning back and finding Virgil staring at him.

"Can I..?" He reached out carefully, meaning to touch him. "I mean... will I just pass through, or..?"

"You can try," Logan answered, voice soft. Virgil nodded, looking up from Logan's eyes back to his forehead. He reached out, touching his cheek with one hand to pull him slightly closer. With his other hand he gently brushed his fingers over his forehead, right under the very big and bloody gash, corners of his lips tugging downward as he looked over it.

"Does it hurt?" Virgil wondered, drawing his hand away from Logan's forehead. Logan shook his head.

"No. Nothing hurts me anymore. Well... except for trying to get people to see me. But that's... different. It's tiring." He explained. Virgil nodded, just then noticing how nervous Logan looked. He kept glancing down towards Virgil's hand still on his face, and Virgil immediately moved away.

"Sorry," he mumbled, and Logan shook his head quickly.

"No. Don't be. It's just that... I mean, I've been this way for so long, and no ones ever tried to..." He trailed off, shaking his head. "Never mind. You know... it's very nice, having you as my friend. Being dead is... well, it's lonely. Not only that but I did not have many friends even when I was living. So your company, it means a lot to me."

"It's nice being friends with you too, Logan." Virgil grinned. "Odd-after all, I never really thought my best friend would end up being... well, dead, but still nice."

Both of them fell into a comfortable silence, smiles on their lips. Logan felt a little self-conscious-he wasn't used to being seen, especially not smiling. It was weird, but he found he didn't really mind it. Not with Virgil, anyways. Virgil made him feel almost like he was a normal teenager, hanging out in the library with a friend.

Virgil was happy too. After years of being constantly tormented by other students in high school the last thing he expected to make friends with him was a ghost. Yet here he was-and he wouldn't give this moment up for anything.
