My heart started to pump faster and faster as my plan replayed in my head. I was growing anxious. Maybe this isn't a good idea... but at the same time, it's not like she'll know it's me.
That's when I saw the blue dress from behind. My heart completely skipped a beat. I can do it I can do it I can do it, I continued to tell myself. My hand fell onto her shoulder, spinning her around and like an arrow hitting a bullseye, I successfully landed my lips against hers.
I pulled back ready to run, but I completely stiffened in fear. Just from the second glance, I realized this Dorothy wasn't Soomi. This Dorothy was a googly-eyed freshman girl who attended the same school I did. Her face was fire truck red, but soon split into a squealing mess.
"Sorry, I didn't mean-" I tried to tell her, but the younger girl only pressed her finger to my mouth.
"Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore..." The girl slid her hand behind my head, but I ducked just in time to escape her lips coming at mine for more.
"Sorry, I don't have a heart! I'm the tin man!" I told her as I squeezed away. After I was a few feet away, I glanced back to see the not-Soomi-Dorothy following.
"Omg, the drummer is so hot!" I heard a familiar voice say. Soomi. I whipped my head to the side to see her dancing with a couple of her friends, dressed in slutty versions of characters from The Wizard of Oz.
I cleared my throat before speaking. "Hey, Soomi." My voice was lowered to try and mask my identity. Soomi turned to find the source of the voice when I held her face in my hands to kiss her properly.
It was even more magical than I had expected. This has been my wish for almost three years now, and I'm finally achieving it. Right here. Right now.
Once I pulled away, I was prepared to sprint. However, the collar of my metallic-looking jacket was clutched in Soomi's fist.
"MARK LEE!" she fumed. I could almost see the smoke blowing out of her ears in rage.
My heart was racing so fast it could win first place in a marathon. This is it, I thought. This is the day I die.
"Markie!" I could hear the freshman calling out my name. "This twister is coming back for round two!"
"Dammit!" I cursed, yanking myself free from Soomi's grasp. That's when I ran and ducked through flailing arms and swaying bodies fast than I ever have before.
Every few steps, I would glance back. The two Dorothy's were on their way, but I seemed to be losing them little by little. I finally was able to break free of the crowd and run to my friend group. I collapsed onto the couch in between Jueun and Chenle.
"No matter what happens, or who comes running up, I've been here for a solid twenty minutes," I told the two while gasping for air. This suit was way stuffier than I expected.
"Mark Lee! You will explain what just happened!" Soomi boomed, stomping up to the couch I was pressing myself against. She bent over to look at me face-to-face. "What was that?" she harshly asked through clenched teeth.
"What do you mean?" I let out a nervous laugh. "I've been here this whole time."
"Then how do you explain the tin man that just kissed me?" Her eyes narrowed to cold slits.
I let a small smile slip onto my face. "I see you're blushing," I boldly announced. "Must've been a decent kiss then?" I don't know where this sudden courage came from.
Soomi straightened, looking taken aback. "I'm not blushing. I've been dancing, so I look flushed since I'm worn out." Her shocked expression was soon replaced with disgusted. "Did you really think that you kissing me would make me feel flattered?" She flipped one of her long braids over her shoulder. "Out of all the guys I've kissed, you would be near the bottom."
There goes my confidence. I gulped, sinking back into the couch.
"Oh, Mark!" The freshman girl came bouncing up to all of us. I glanced to Jueun and Chenle, who were probably confused out of their minds. Soomi shot a nasty look at the freshman girl, before pacing back to her friends.
"What the hell?" Jueun muttered.
"A lot happened," I told them.
Jueun's P.O.V (bold and italicized text is Chinese)
Before Mark could even finish his story I shook my head, telling him to stop.
"Your life is giving me a headache," I told Mark, rubbing my temples. "Stop."
"You know Chinese?!" Chenle asked enthusiastically. "That's amazing, can you tell what I'm saying? This is fun! I have three-"
"Um, I have no idea what's going one here," Mark interrupted.
"Chenle, I barely know any Chinese," I told the eager boy. "All I got was amazing, fun, and three."
"Tell me something you like in Chinese!"
I raked my brain, trying to remember something I could say I liked. I started to croak something out, but it only caused Chenle to burst into a fit of dolphin laughs.
"You have your tones all wrong," he finally told me. "I don't think I should say what you ended up telling me."
I started to feel embarrassed by my mistake. Chenle's laughs didn't make me feel any better.
"Shut up," I told him, trying to laugh it off. "I'll attack you."
"I'm sorry," Chenle apologized, then continued on. I rolled my eyes, but in the process, they spotted a plastic axe resting against the chair next to the couch we were sitting on.
I snagged the item. "Chenle, I wasn't kidding when I said I would attack."
"Uh oh," Chenle jumped to his feet. "You can't catch me!" He then sprinted off down the stairs. I snickered, chasing after him. I jumped off the last step just in time to see that little dolphin turning a corner.
"Hey, Jueun," I could hear Johnny's voice call to me.
"Not now, my brother, I'm on a mission!"
Chenle's blue, smurf-skin disappeared behind a door that led to the toilets. When we were setting up, G-Dragon explained to me that they're basically just built-in porta pots.
I pulled open the door to hear Chenle let out a scream. I dropped the axe in surprise.
"You can't be in here! This is the guy's toilet!" Chenle covered his mouth. "What if I was using the bathroom?"
"I was chasing you! You wouldn't have had enough time to drop your pants." I picked the axe up. After standing straight again, I realized how tight of a space we were standing in. We were so close I could almost feel Chenle's body heat.
"I'm sorry I laughed at your Chinese pronunciation," Chenle said, sincerely this time. "But it was cute."
"It was what?" I asked him to repeat since I couldn't catch everything.
"Funny... It was funny," Chenle translated for me.
I nodded. "I guess it can be. I don't know what I said, but it must've been hilarious." After an awkward laugh, we were just staring into each other's eyes. I cleared my throat. "Maybe we should get out of this bathroom."
Johnny's P.O.V
I brushed off my hands in a job-well-done after propping a chair under the door handle that led into the guy's bathroom. A mischevious smirk surfaced on my face as the door handle began to jiggle.
"I think the door is jammed," Jueun told Chenle on the other side.
"I'll give you two a little seven minutes in heaven," I called to them. "Have fun! But not too much!"
"Johnny!" Jueun shouted. "I'm going to kill you!"
I sighed proudly. "Forced social interaction is my favorite."
