Prologue
~~~
Boo Woods was always identified as a spooky and dangerous place. Hence it's name, it was inhabited by a common species of ghosts called boos. It was a forest surrounded by dead trees. The only source of light was from the full moon that illuminated down on the woods. No sign of life except for a few crows perched on the long, bare branches of the trees. They stared vastly at a large tower above a large cauldron pot in the middle of Boo Woods with narrowed eyes.
A transparent white orb, visibly wearing a monocle, hovered towards the tower. His small beady eyes seemed to be stricken with panic. He quickly phased through the door of the building, entering the front entrance full of smaller boos similar in appearance to him—excluding the monocle. They all stopped what they were doing and turned their round spherical bodies at the one that just entered, rather perturbed at him for disturbing them all of a sudden. "M-my apologies everyone... Please carry on with your duties.." the ghost said.
He rushed through another door to meet eyes with a particularly larger and imposing Boo. This Boo wore a gold crown decorated with red and blue gems on his head. He, of course, was identified as their current King. He gazed at the boo that just entered his domain without warning. The king wasn't disgruntled at him after noticing that he seemed rather anxious about something. That would explain why he didn't think of announcing his presence before barging himself into the king's space uninvited. He knew that his boo subjects can be easily frightened if something had provoked them into feeling that way. Instead he greeted his loyal subject in a calming and elegant manner, "what seems to be troubling you, my fellow Boonstructor?"
"Your majesty, I greatly apologize for the intrusion but we are in terrible danger!" The Boonstructor answered.
The King raised a brow in bewilderment. "In danger? What do you mean?"
"T-the Broomies! They are coming!" The Boonstructor warned, raising his voice a little in trepidation.
"What?!" The king gasped. "Ready the soldiers! We can't let our guard down! We must fight back!"
"Of course, my liege! I'll prepare them for battle right away!" The Boonstructor answered the king, bowing in respect before leaving the ruler alone in his throne room.
Ghosts and witches have always been enemies. One can never agree which one is the most dangerous or terrifying of both sides. It was never opposed to be any different with the Boos and the Broomies either. Boos were a species of ghosts that could make illusions and Broomies were a species of witches that could cast spells. Boos and Broomies have clashed with each other in combat for centuries now, but why?
The Broomies have been fighting the boos because they want to take Boo Woods and use the magic cauldron they had for themselves. King Boo was deeply aware of their foul schemes of rivalry against the boo kind. No matter how many times he tried to draw them away from his woods, they always returned for another match against him and his subjects and it was about that time again.
Luckily, his noble Boonstructor trained a few boos specifically for this reason. Any boo dipped in the magical cauldron below the tower were gifted special powers and abilities. They each taught themselves a unique illusion skill they could use in battle. However, none of the boos chosen—atleast thus far, have been gifted a strong enough power to completely defeat the Broomies. This was what the Haunt University was founded for. The strongest boos with the best illusions would graduate and have a chance to be one of the chosen to be dipped in the cauldron to enhance their abilities even further to fight against the Broomies.
The Boonstructor wanted to know one thing— he was eager to find out if he finally found the boo worthy of defeating the Broomies once and for all. It was the moment of truth. He smiled gleefully, his large tongue lolling out in excitement. He phased through the door to a room located on the very edge of the haunted tower. It was filled with many young boos, practicing their illusions before the big fight.
"I need everyone's attention!" The Boonstructor spoke up. The boos immediately stopped what they were doing and focused on their Boonstructor. Once all their eyes were on him, he continued, "It is the time you've all been waiting for, students! You've been training for this moment for a long time now and it has finally arrived! The Broomies are approaching our woods! You must rise up and defend Boo Woods as best you can! Make our fellow king proud!" The Boonstructor announced.
The boos cheered in excitement, looking at each other with eagerness sparking in each of their eyes. All 15 of the boos chuckled in their high pitched Booish squeals full of mischief. All of the boos quickly rushed out of the room in a large white mist up into the clear, starless night sky. The Boonstructor was the last one out of the room watching his boo students with anticipation. The boos met the Broomies riding on their broomsticks, cackling in their witchy laughter. "If it isn't the little scaredy boos! Out to play with us again?" The Broomie with the largest pointy top hat and sharp pointy nose spoke up, cackling menacingly. "Let's see what you weaklings got for us this time!"
The boos threw their best illusions at the Broomies, all to little effect. It came as a disappointment to the Boonstructor. This wasn't looking good for the boos at all. The Broomies only cackled in delight. "Is that all you got?! Guess it's our turn then!" With one blast from the Broomies Magic broomsticks, the boos were quickly defeated all at once.
The boos lost... again...
The Boonstructor couldn't let anymore damage be done to the boos or their home so he quickly created a protective barrier around the entirety of the woods to keep the Broomies out. The Broomies fired a few more blasts of magic from their broomsticks before giving up—they flew off, leaving Boo Woods, the injured boos and the, now damaged state, the haunted tower was left in. The Boonstructor only sighed in defeat, hovering lower to the ground in despair. "Another dud... Will we ever find the right boo strong enough to save us from this predicament...?"
The Boonstructor helped the injured boos into the haunted tower. Afterwards, he slowly hovered back to the king with his gaze to the floor.
"We failed again, your Grace..."
The King sighed in sympathy. "It isn't your fault, Boonstructor. You're putting in as much effort as possible training these boos. It's not even our boo's fault either. I know they are trying really hard to defeat the Broomies just as much as you are. We need to find the chosen boo as soon as possible or the future of Boo Woods is nonexistent..."
"We will find him! I'll make sure of it, sire!"
This is the start of my Halloween special book for this year. This is only a teaser so the next update will be a while before it comes out. Hope you enjoyed this small teaser of this new story. ^U^
This will have elements of the lost Boo DS game called Haunt that was going to be created by Retro Studios and it will also contain King Boo's origin story before he became enemies with E. Gadd and the Mario Brothers. This story takes place long before the events of the first Luigi's Mansion game. Of course, the boos had their own enemies to deal with before they became more of the antagonists themselves. After this story is finished, I plan to make a story that is related to the Portrait Ghosts before they died. Which may either link with this story or will continue from where this one ends at.
Now I don't know much about the Haunt game except for what has been leaked, so most of this is pretty much my guess with how it could have been like with some changes. The Haunt game is more than likely lost media at this point and may never be shown again because of it. So some elements from it will be used as King Boo's origin story instead.
