I've worked for Haughtin Law Firm for four years, since i graduated law school. It was a blessing that I had gotten a job so quickly, especially since it's one of the best known firms in America. It hurt me to have to leave. If i had a choice i'd stay here until i retired or they fired me but that isn't the case. My hand tightens on the envelope that holds my two weeks notice as i get closer to my bosses office. I can feel my heartbeat speed up as tears well up in my eyes. I contemplate turning around and leaving but Damiens threat echoes through my head,'Listen Bitch, you are going to quit your job. I don't need you parading around like some whore. If I find out you tried to keep it I will be forced to mark you as mine. I will use your body how I want until you beg for death.' Taking in a deep breath I take the last few steps and lightly knock on the door. It's past hours and i'm not really expecting anyone to answer but sure enough his deep voice resonates through the room inviting me in.
"Hello, Mr.Haughtin. I'm sorry to disturb you but I came came to drop this off." I shyly speak as I walk further into the room. My eyes never leave my feet as I walk up and place the envelope on his desk. I turn to leave when he speaks again causing me to jump.
"You don't have to apologize, Carla, I hope you don't mind me calling you by your first name." My name sounds like music coming from his lips, it causes me stop midstep. "I didn't expect anyone to still be in. Please join me, I could use some company." It sounds like more of a demand than a request so I turn around and take a seat in one of the chairs in front of his desk. My whole body is shaking and I can't stop the nervousness that's running through me. I must have been quiet for a while because he speaks up.
"Is everything alright? You don't have to be nervous around me. I promise I don't bite." He laughs as he says this and I can't help but look up at his brilliant smile. His teeth are almost a perfect white against his pink lips and it makes wetness pool between my legs. I make eye contact with him as I rub my thighs together trying to make myself more comfortable.
"Everything i-is fine Mr. Haughtin. I'm just not having a very good week." I try to smile but it feels forced and I can tell he see's through it.
"Please, call me Gray, and feel free to talk about it. I'll help out in any way I can." He picks up the envelope I placed on his desk and opens it as he finishes his sentence. I watch as he reads the words I wrote down on the page and can't help but think the way his eyebrows scrunch together is cute. I fight the urge to lean forward and rub the creases out of his forehead. I can tell he doesn't approve with what he's reading and I feel horrible for being the one to cause him the stress. His dark grey eyes move from the page he's reading to meet my doe brown one's. I feel like an awful person and stand up ready to leave.
"Did someone do something to make you want to leave the company? I've followed your work and you are amazing at your job. Is there anyway I can change your mind?" Tears fill my eyes again and I look back back down at my feet. I hate Damien for making me do this. But it was either quit my job or end up dead somewhere.
"No sir, it's no one in the company. I have to leave for personal reasons. I'm so sorry." My voice cracks as a steady stream of tears stain my face. I turn to walk out when his hand closes around my wrist pulling me into his chest. He smells good, manly, almost a mixture of sandalwood and cigars. Without even thinking my arms tighten around him and his chin rests gently on my head. I can hear him whispering 'it's alright' as he pulls me closer. I feel weird but can't help but feel safe and comforted.
I immediately miss his warmth as I pull away. He holds my arms and looks into my eyes pleading with me to call him if I need anything, handing me his personal card before I walk out of his office. I don't plan on calling him but I put his card in my purse anyway not wanting to throw it away just incase. I walk out to my car and pull out of the parking lot heading to my personal hell hole.
