19. Nowhere To Go

Hey sorry it took so long. I've been busy editing things. I want to get these books published soon so sorry for the delay. Enjoy.

Laura's POV

Suprisingly I sleep really well the night after the party. I guess I could thank all those hours of work. Because I know otherwise the night's events would have kept me up.

Chris. Chris kissed me.

I was disgusted with myself. I had a boyfriend and instead of pushing Chris away, I kissed him back...hopelessly. Guilt was quickly swallowing me whole. I had to tell Will. I couldn't keep something like that from him.

God, he deserved someone so much better than me.

"Laura!"

I nestled closer into my blankets to hide from my approaching visitor. I knew it was Demi. She sounded really determined as she swung open my door and called my name again.

"Whaaattt?" It was too early for this.

"Dude," she said jumping on my bed. "What happened to you last night? That game was major intense with you and Chris."

"Really." I got up and rested against the headboard. She was eagerly waiting for me to continue like a puppy waiting for a treat. Was my life really a soap opera and the only form of entertainment for her? "I didn't notice."

"Pah," she exagerrated. "Don't start talking gibberish now. Come on woman, spill. The last thing I saw was Chris walking out the door after you."

I trusted Demi and the fact that she already knew about mine and Chris' twisted relationship help me explain the night's event.

"I think he wants me back."

Demi nodded in agreement. "That much was obvious from last night. He'd apparently die for you."

I rolled my eyes. "Then why didn't he call? I just don't understand. What does he really want?"

Demi moved in closer, getting ready to defend Chris. She was all for Team Chris. I never understood why either. I mean wouldn't you think she'd hate him after I told her all the things he's done to me.

"I don't know but maybe he has a good reason. He never got to explain."

What kind of excuse was good enough? None. There was no reason for him not to put up and phone and call me. It was simple.

"Laura, no wait." She frowned, taking in my expression. "I know that look on your face. Don't judge him just yet. Give him a chance to explain."

Why? I was truthfully too scared to give him a chance to explain. What if I fell for it? What if it was good enough and I went back to him? Would he hurt me again? I don't believe he deserved a chance.

"There's more isn't there." Demi was studying my face like a science project. I hated when she did that.

"He kissed me," I confessed regrettably.

Demi's eyes bulged out of her sockets but then she quickly recovered and smirked. Her lips curved so deep it was overpowering her face. She was loving this; like really loving this.

"Did you kiss him back?"

I was silent and that was all she needed to get out of me. Demi squealed with excitement. Well I was glad someone could find some good out of my misery. Only she would.

"Laura! Oh gosh I can't believe it. Yes!"

I pursed my lips. Really?

"Oh I mean. How does that make you feel?"

I threw a pillow at her. "I don't know." I was so frustrated. What is up with me?

Demi put the pillow down and gave a serious look. "Do you love him?"

"Who? Will?"

"Nooooooo," she said annoyed. "Chris."

And that's when my head started to hurt, really, really, bad. When I didn't reply Demi took my hands in hers and made me focus.

"Laura, do you love Chris?"

Did I? I wasn't sure. I wasn't even sure if I was capable of loving him. Hate. Hating him was so much easier.

"I...I don't know." I wasn't sure about anything anymore.

"I think you do know. Deep down inside where no one else can see, you know."

Maybe she was right. But it didn't matter. I had a boyfriend. "I'm with Will."

Demi rolled her eyes and dismissed my comment with the wave of her hand. "Will is a nice guy and all but this is Chris we are talking about Laura. Chris freakin Compton. He may have hated you in the beginning but eventually you guys fell madly and sweetly in love with each other. And both of you are too stubborn to admit it. "

Sweetly. Ironic choice of wording. "Demi it's more complicated than that. Our relationship is wrong, like really really wrong. We'd end up killing each other eventually."

She snorted. "But that's the best part. You guys will thrive on that because you both are so much alike. You guys need it to live. You need each other."

I didn't know Demi was such a hopeless romantic. And when did I become such a realist?

"This isn't a fairytale. Things are going to get messy and complicated."

"Then let it. At least then you won't have what ifs. This thing with Chris isn't something you can toss to the side."

I hated when she was right; her stupid words of wisdom.

I shut my eyes and took a deep breath but it won't help block anything out.

My door swung open just then and my mother came in.  "Laura- oh Demi you're here. It's good to see you. Laura can you do me a favor and grocery shop for me today. Please."

Why not? Maybe it will distract me a little. "Sure. "

"I'll go with you." Demi volunteered.

It had been so long since I've actually shopped for food that I didn't know where to start. Eventually I just started throwing random things into the cart. I know Demi wanted to continue our previous conversation but she didn't push it.

"Laura, its good to see you," a sultry man's voice said in a irresistible British accent.

We both turned to find Dr. Callister standing all tall and gorgeous with his dimple smile. I think we both melted at the sounds of his voice. What girl wouldn't?

"Dr. Callister funny seeing you here."

"Please, " he moved closer and I think Demi was holding her breath. "Call me Daniel."

His eyes locked to Demi's and I swear I saw sparks. Light bulb. They would be perfect for each other. I didn't like playing match maker but the chemistry was already there. Even I could feel it.

"Daniel, this is my good friend Demi."

Daniel stretched his hand out and she took it. "It's a pleasure meeting you Demi."

"Likewise."

She couldn't take that dorky adorable smile of her face. This was perfect.

"So Laura I'll be seeing you at the ball tonight, right?"

I nodded. "Yes I wouldn't miss it." Will was receiving an award tonight at this huge gathering of doctors. This ball was going to be all formal and extravagant.

"Then I suppose I'll see you there. It was nice meeting you Demi. Have a good rest of the day."

Daniel gave us one last heart breaking smile before he left our sight. Demi was still in a daze so I snapped my fingers in front of her lovestruck face.

"Demi, are you in there?"

She shook her head rapidly. "Uh yeah I'm here."

I smirked. I don't blame her for her absent mindedness. I'm pretty sure that was my reaction first meeting him too.

"So let me get this straight; you got Mchottie but there's also a Mcsexy in that hospital too." Demi shook her head. "I seriously got to become a nurse."

I rolled my eyes. "Come on. I'll set you up with him later but for now you have to help me get ready for this ball."
