Chapter 7
After spending nearly the whole day with Charlie, I got to know quite a number of things about him. One of the things were that he had moved into the city to take care of his old grandma.
He showed me a number of pictures to brag about how cute she was and I found it cute how excited he got while talking about her. He looked exactly like a young child bragging about going to a park or spending time with their parents infront of their classmate and even though I sort of liked being alone in college, it was a nice change of pace.
"Hey...would it be possible to send me the notes of the class?" He asked. It hasn't been long since the semester had begun thus there wasn't much to send.
"Sure" I agreed and he lightened up evidently.
"Then can you give me your number? So that you can send them?" I asked sounding a little unsure with a tinge of nervousness in his voice.
"Umm sure" I smiled and typed my number in his phone.
"Thanks, I'll ping you as soon as I can, sorry for the trouble" He fidgeted about.
"Don't fret, it's no trouble at all." I reassured him.
"Oh right, how about a cup of coffee? Are you...busy right now?" He asked out of the blue and no matter how much I wanted to make a friend, coffee or going to other places was simply not my thing unless it was with someone I knew and trusted completely.
"Eh...I don't think it's going to be possible. Sorry though" I tried to decline as politely as I could and he smiled accepting the decline.
"How about a little trip to the library then? Can you show me maybe? I haven't been around the campus yet" He requested and I couldn't refuse it, afterall I too wanted to visit the library to issue a book and going with him didn't seem like a problem.
"Sure let's go" We started walking together and talked about a number of things on our way. Even though the library wasn't too far from our department, it took us a little more than the usual time thanks to us walking leisurely.
We entered the library and were immediately hit by it's disciplined atmosphere. There was a peaceful silence that was scattered around the whole place and like most other libraries it had the perfect atmosphere for anyone who wished to study.
( Writer's thought: For anyone who's wondering what was the need to write that the library was quiet since most of them anyway are, I would like to say - not all, not my school one atleast, nope, anytime you go...you will find a bunch of either students or teachers talking in there as if it's a frickin' talking club or something, like just let me study in peace please...my exams are coming up and I haven't completed sh*t till now ╥﹏╥ )
We took the books that we needed and sat down beside each other. A little later he wanted to ask me something and tried to whisper but the place was so quiet that even the whisper sounded loud that earned him a number of glares.
He apologized and hid his head in the book feeling embarrassed because of his actions and I chuckled silently seeing him.
"I've been smiling more than usual" I thought to myself liking the pleasant change.
"You've the attention span of a toddler" I wrote in my copy and slid it towards him.
"Well how can I concentrate when there's such a cute guy sitting right beside me?" he wrote back.
I smiled upon reading it and looked up towards him appreciating his courage to say something like that on the very first day.
"Who are you talking about?" I tried to play dumb.
"The ghost beside me obviously" He rolled his eyes at me after I was done reading it.
"I'm talking about you ofcourse" He wrote again.
"Oh? What a direct kid" I clapped silently for him and he bowed dramatically.
"Well I believe in complimenting people directly if they deserve it." He shrugged.
"I'm honoured to receive a compliment from you then." I smiled at him.
"You can come out for a lunch with me if you are." He wrote and I blushed upon reading it.
"Is it a silent date proposal?" I tried to tease him but that barely had any effect on him.
"Maybe?" He wrote
"What a flirt" I replied and he winked while looking at me making me blush yet again.
Right then I looked at my watch and realised how late it had gotten.
"Sh*t I gotta go. Sorry" I apologised for having to leave already.
"Don't be, it's late anyways, rather am sorry for holding you back for so long." He wrote before getting up and started walking beside me to keep me company till my car.
Even though he was a little flirty, he had a really polite side to him. The way he helped everyone, the way his eyes softened while talking, everything made me wonder if I would ever get to see that soft look ever in Vegas' eyes directed towards me.
Maybe my face lost its light for a second since Charlie seemed to notice it but thankfully did not try to pry any further.
"Pete...sure we just met a few hours ago, but if you ever need me or feel like sharing anything, then am right here for you. You can share anything you want and I'll do it for you, whether it's coming up with a solution to your problem or simply listening to you, I am ready to do it all." He said and doesn't matter if he truly meant it or not, but those words made me feel reassured, as if I had someone I could share my feelings with, without being afraid of them informing my father.
"Sure, thanks" I felt a short-lived flutter in my heart and waving him a goodbye I left the place feeling all fuzzy.
"Waiiit! How about we take a picture together before you leave? You know like a memory of our first day together?" Charlie suggested taking his phone out and even though I hesitated a little at first because of how roughed up I was looking after a long tiring day, I agreed since no one else was going to look at it anyway.
"Ok I guess?" I moved closer and smiled brightly and thankfully we ended up clicking a good one. Even though we were looking quite exhausted, there was a hint of comfort and friendliness that was radiating from our faces.
I bid him goodbye for the final time and drove off the campus still smiling widely.
"What a sweet day" I whispered as my mind kept going back to the exchange.
It took me around half-an-hour to reach home and by the time I did, I was dead tired.
It was a little past 8 and everyone was already in their rooms busy with their own lives.
Vegas was still working probably since he was not home yet and I was quite thankful for it.
"Thank goodness I can relax a little! I am enough tired as it is and have no desire to deal with those daggers that he shoots with his sharp eyes" I sighed as I threw my clothes over my shoulder and walked into he washroom to take a long and relaxing hot bath.
"Ah it feels so good" I fake whine cried feeling all the exhaustion dissipating from my body and sinked even more into the water till just less than half of my face was out of it.
After a good amount of time, I finally got up feeling all refreshed but did not want to get dressed yet.
Since I had heard no noise coming from the room, I naturally concluded that Vegas must have not come back yet.
"Vegas hasn't come back till now, and I don't want to get dressed yet, so how about I just sleep for 5 minutes and then get dressed before he comes back?" I thought to myself and agreed to the suggestion immediately.
"What a good idea, let's go then" I cheered myself on and after fixing myself up, walked out of the washroom with a towel wrapped around my waist.
I stretched my arms while my eyes were still closed for a second to let the cold air of the room hit me but instead I heard a crash.
To my horror, Vegas was standing in front of me looking completely shocked and the crash had emerged from the glass that had fallen down from his hand which still was in its raised position.
I myself was so shocked that I could not comprehend what to do so I just backed off towards the washroom while still maintaining the eye contact with vegas and once I was inside the washroom, slammed the door hard enough to break his trance.
POV Ends.
Third person POV:
After standing still for a second, Pete took a cold shower before going towards the jacuzzi tub and after submerging himself completely, starting screaming his lungs out silently out of embarrassment.
He started punching the water before starting to slam his head on the floor of tub until he had completely exhausted himself again.
He then withdrew the control he had over his body, allowing himself to be floated up.
"Kill me please" He whined dramatically as he reached the surface of the water.
After about another 30 minutes, he was again ready to come out of the washroom, fully clothed this time though.
"You can do it!" He cheered himself up and exhaled slowly as he summoned his courage to step out, into the room.
He gently unlocked the door while making sure to not make any sound and stepped into the room silently. But to his surprise, the room was completely dark and Vegas had already gone to sleep.
"Thank god!" He relaxed visibly, sighed and thanked god for saving him from further embarrassment.
But what surprised him even more was that Vegas was completely clothed! Not just a robe or sleeping half-naked but had actual clothes on his usually bare body!
"Oh? What a miracle! I thought he was allergic to wearing clothes at night" He said sarcastically while looking at the sleeping vegas.
"If you are done being sarcastic then just sleep or go out I don't care, but don't disturb me." Vegas said in his deep sleepy voice without opening his eyes catching pete off-guard.
"Woah his sleepy voice is even hotter than his morning one" Pete whispered to himself while looking at the floor.
"You know I can hear you right?" Vegas sounded irritated.
"Shia, he can?" He whispered again making Vegas get up from the bed.
He stood right infront of pete looking pissed off. He walked around to change their positions, making pete withdraw his steps as well.
Pete was standing infront of the bed while Vegas was towering infront of him with the pissed expression still on which unfortunately triggered Pete's memories.
He instantly got a flashback of the time when his fathering was towering infront of him the same way, looking as angry as he could. This made him start to shiver though it wasn't enough to be noticed by his maybe angry husband.
"Calm down, calm down...it's fine, you are safe, he won't hurt you...calm down..." Pete kept telling himself internally over and over while holding his own shivering hand tightly to calm himself down.
However instead of saying anything, Vegas kept looking at him and started taking steps towards him again making pete sit down on the bed eventually.
Vegas shoved his shoulders making him lie on the bed and while still maintaining the eye contact, threw the blanket on top of Pete, burying him underneath it.
"Sleep" He said before moving to the other side.
Pete felt the sheets dip a little followed by soft breaths coming from the other side after barely a minute and knew that Vegas was asleep already.
"I thought he was going to hit me" Pete whispered to himself as he clasped his hand feeling a little better. The sudden short-lived terror was replaced by a certain comfort and he too soon drifted off though not before praying to the heavens for everyone's good health and his days to get even better in his new family.
