Chapter 3
After reaching the Teerapanyakul residence, we all retired immediately to our rooms. Everyone was dead tired and no one had even an ounce of energy more to hang around.
The night was cold as usual. The winters had always been bitter with it's spine shiveringly low temperature.
As soon as we reached his room, vegas slammed the door behind me and after throwing away whatever he was wearing, hopped onto the bed and monopolised it.
"The bed is mine. Sleep wherever the hell you want, I don't care" He said nonchalantly and laid back to relax.
"Looks like he has a hypothermia kink to sleep with his clothes off like that" I whispered to myself but had clearly underestimated his 'supersonic hearing'.
"Why did you just say?" He jumped out of the bed and walked towards me with a slow pace to intimidate me.
"What did you hear?" I cross-questioned confidently tinted with a little too much audacity.
"Stop fu*king getting on my nerves" he warned me in a low voice and just by seeing his eyes I knew that he was in no mood to play.
I had always been extremely grateful to my danger sensing ability which had saved me from father's wrath at multiple occasions and at the moment too I was thankful to it for stopping me at the right time since arguing more with him would have yielded me pretty undesirable results.
"Whatever I do, whatever I wear, is none of your goddamn business, do you get it?" He inched closer to me and said in an extremely serious tone.
Just as I was about to open my mouth to say a little something, he grabbed my shoulders and bent down to get to my eye level.
"If you want to survive for a long time, then learn to keep your mouth shut" He advice-alerted me and I hummed in response to avoid any commotion.
"Good" He whispered and shoving me, went back to his bed.
Within the matter of a few seconds I heard vegas softly breathing, indicating that he had already drifted off and I was left all alone in the gloomy room wandering if the days were only going to get worst.
The sofa in the room sure was a little cramped but still almost fit me comfortably.
It's cold.
I thought to myself as I snuggled against the sofa to extract every bit of warmth that I could. My whole body was aching but the pain was giving me a different kind of reassurance that I was still alive, that I had the ability to fight against the odds and survive just as I had for my whole life.
Having known almost no one in the Teerapanyakul family, I was sceptical about my treatment in the family. I was almost sure that I wouldn't be welcomed by the members and would be ignored by them, the same way vegas did, still, there was a little hope to get along with everyone as ever since my childhood, the only thing I had ever yearned desparately for was to have a family, to have people whom I could return back to, where I could feel safe and with whom I could share a number of memories to look back at during the despondent days.
Sometime in the night, around some dark hour, my trail of thoughts faded as I passed out from all the exhaustion of the day. There was a soft wind blowing from some unknown corner of the room that was brushing past my skin making me shiver but I was too tired to look for the source in the dark or to close any windows from where the breeze could be seeping in.
Pete's POV ends.
Third person POV:
The next morning:
It was somewhere around 6:30 in the morning when Vegas got up feeling quite refreshed. But as soon as he woke up, he felt as if someone was sleeping beside him turning his mood sour. His refreshed self immediately turned grumpy and he was ready to take off all the frustration on pete for bothering him despite his repeated warnings.
"Did he crawl into the bed after failing to find a duvet? Had he not asserted that he wasn't going to bother me at all? Did he go back on his word already? There's no way he'll be able to survive for long while being so fragile." He shook his head and with every drop of energy present in his body threw away the duvet to reveal and reprimand pete but to his surprise, instead of pete, it was a cat sleeping right beside him. After getting caught off-guard, the cat sprung onto it's feet and before Vegas could react, jumped out of the room through the window.
"That wasn't him? Where did he go then?" He thought to himself and while scanning the room for a presence, his eye fell on the tiny sofa kept on the other side of the room and then on the tiny human huddled in it.
He immediately ran towards pete in shock but just as he was about to check if pete was alright, something stopped him.
"Why should I? Why do I need to check if he's alright or not? I've got nothing to do with him anyways" His inner voice refrained him from checking up on him and irritated by how a part of him was still slightly worried about pete, he stormed out of the room and into the balcony to cool himself off.
"Does he have no survival instincts to sleep without any blanket or anything like that? Even the window was open, I am surprised how he managed to not freeze to death through the night". He grumbled and went back to the room to get over with his morning chores.
It was a little past 7:15 when he was all set to start the day but pete was still immersed in his deep sleep.
Lazy
He thought to himself and without trying to wake him up, left the room.
"Is pete up?" Porsche asked him.
"Still sleeping" He smiled at Porsche as he tried to divert the topic from pete.
"Are you free in the afternoon?" Vegas asked sweetly.
"Why?" His eyebrows furrowed.
"I was thinking maybe we could go out somewhere and get lunch together?" Vegas elucidated and hoped for him to agree but his expectations were unfortunately crushed.
"Ah...no, Khun and I are taking pete out today...so if you want we all can eat out?" Porsche proposed but vegas vehemently refused.
"I-mean no it's alright, we can go out together some other day, I shouldn't interrupt your sweet time with the other two" He smiled forcefully and left the place fuming in anger.
"Pete Pete Pete why can't they all just pretend like he doesn't exist?" He was petulant and did not want to even be anywhere near pete at the moment.
Thus, bidding Porsche goodbye he left for the office to return back preferably late at night in order to avoid any sort of confrontation with his newlywed.
Half an hour later:
"Let's just stay indoors and watch some new drama" Tankhun put forth the idea enthusiastically but was shut down by Porsche.
"Don't make pete want to run away from the house on his first day here" Porsche replied while strongly urging him to scrap the idea.
"The only good place you know and go to is Yok's bar but that is closed for today" Tankhun pointed it out and Porsche did not seem happy with his claims.
"I have been to more places in this city than you've ever even heard of" Porsche complained.
"Yet the only other fun place I've ever heard you boasting about is Kinn's bedroom and I have absolutely no interest in going there" Tankhun sarcastically remarked and just as Porsche was about to counter it, they saw pete looking confused while trying to find any, even a little familiar face.
"Ai pete" Tankhun called and after successfully detecting the source of the sound, pete came up to join them.
"I am.." Tankhun said to introduce himself but was cut short by Pete.
"P'Tankhun" Pete said and went on to guess everyone else's name.
"You are Porsche, arm and Pol, right?" Pete guessed all the names correctly earning cheers from the four present there. The happy atmosphere immediately gave Pete a string of hope that maybe his upcoming days in the Teerapanyakul family weren't going to be as bad as he had imagined.
"Now that pete knows everyone already, let's just have him choose what should we do for the day." Tankhun suggested and everyone else agreed. However, pete was utterly confused from the lack of context, making him even more curious as to what were they going to make him choose.
Tankhun got up from the sofa and after analysing him seriously for a second, smiled playfully and mischievously as he presented both the choices.
"So do you want to go a 'place' that Porsche claims to be fun? And mind you it's not Yok's bar-the best bar in the city so I highly doubt the credibility of his claims, or..." Tankhun swerved his body and threw back the other end of his long cost sassily as he came near pete to wrap his hand around his shoulders.
"Do you wanna stay home and..." But before he could complete his sentence, he was shocked by how hot Pete's body was.
"Oih! You're burning up!" Tankhun said worriedly and the other three immediately surrounded pete.
Porsche checked his temperature and his eyes too widened up.
"You have high fever what are you doing here standing unfazed like this?" Porsche said as he held his hand and led him to the room and made him to lie down.
Even though everyone was worried, pete mistook it for irritation, the hope for a better life was crushed immediately and because of how vulnerable he had gotten because of the terribly high fever, he felt the back of his eyes welling up from the guilt of losing the only chance he had to have a family.
I ended up even making them feel repulsed with me and wrecked the plan with this stupid fever. I have a knack for making everyone hate me, don't I?
He thought to himself while trying his best to not let his tears show but Porsche and Tankhun could surely detect the dejection that was evident on his face.
"I-am sorry" His voice choked.
