Chapter 18
"Is there any place that you want to visit after the doctor's appointment?" Vegas questioned while tying Pete's shoelaces.
"I can walk Wegath" Pete said for one last time to convince his husband but it was in vain.
"Ofcourse I know you can walk. You must have started waddling by the time you were barely one year old." Vegas said nonchalantly, however that did not impress Pete.
"You need to develop your sense of humour." He said in a flat tone while looking at Vegas with judging eyes.
"And you need to develop your sense of self-preservation. Now sit on this wheelchair or I'll have to throw you over my shoulder." Vegas smirked looking at him while Pete stared at Vegas with a gaping mouth looking rather dumbfounded.
"You won't do that!" Pete protested however Vegas didn't seem like he was joking.
"Don't test me love, you know how shameless I can be" Vegas winked as he grabbed the wheelchair and brought it towards Pete.
Even though he was still reluctant to sit on it, the only other option available seemed far too embarrassing to him to actually choose it.
Carry me over his shoulders? One had to be crazy to do that infront of all the bodyguards and family members who are always striding or relaxing around the house. Thought Pete.
But then again, Vegas wasn't the sanest of people he had known, he had a demented side to him, not that Pete hated it though.
As both of them were on their way to the parking lot with Vegas pushing the wheelchair, they came across Porsche who was relaxing in the lounge and seemed pleasantly surprised to see them both.
"Oh? Looks like they made up finally. Did he hit his head somewhere perhaps? If he did then I must pay the place my respect for knocking some sense into that pea-sized brain of his." Porsche thought as he got up from the couch and walked towards them.
"Going somewhere you two?" He asked while smiling at them.
"To the hospital, to get my wounds checked and get an injection as well to prevent any possible infection." Pete replied.
"Oh" Porsche nodded
"Ah right! Vegas! I heard a new cafe opened around the corner, I will send you the location, take Pete there on your way back. He loves sweets" Porsche slipped the idea into Vegas' mind while silently hoping for him to accept the proposal and to his surprise, he actually did!
"Sure, thanks for informing." Vegas smiled lightly in response wondering if Pete still relished sweets as much as he did during their school days and couldn't help but feel fuzzy while remembering Pete's chipmunk cheeks that he had last seen years ago.
"We'll get going then, see you later" Vegas said and as he was about to leave, Porsche walked up to him and whispered in his ear.
"I hope you'll treat him right from now on. If you dare to return to your past self, just know that I'll definitely hunt you down this time." Porsche patted his shoulder and creating some distance between them, smiled at him again before turning towards Pete to bid him goodbye.
Soon they were out of the house and the smile that had crept up Pete's lips upon seeing Porsche had still not left his lips.
"Isn't Porsche such a sweet and warm person?" Pete expressed and even though Vegas didn't seem like he agreed to it fully, he didn't try to protest.
"Sure as long as you don't do anything that pisses him off badly." He thought while thinking about probably some distant memory of Porsche being a nightmare to his enemies.
If Vegas knew how to break his enemies down physically, Porsche knew how to break them down mentally. Manipulation, illusion and erasing every trace were a few of his most used techniques.
Probably no one except the family members knew how the warmth and harmless looking attitude of Porsche could make anyone open up to him that most often proved to be quite advantageous to him.
But there was no need of saying all the things to Pete and risking the breakage of the close bond they shared since Porsche was the type to always protect the people he determined to be his own and from what Vegas had seen, Porsche was ready to risk anything for Pete.
As they sat in peace in the car in each other's presence, Vegas thought of striking a conversation.
"Do you remember how excited you used to get upon seeing cakes in the past?" Vegas initiated the conversation.
"Ofcourse I do. There was something special about the ones you used to bring." Pete said as he turned his head towards Vegas.
During their teenage years Vegas used to pack a slice of cake in his tiffin and bring it for the cake lover little Pete atleast once every week. Just getting to witness that delighted face of his was enough to brighten his entire day back then.
"Ah I wonder if the old lady is still running the shop" Vegas said as he reminisced about the now lost days.
"The owner?" Pete asked curiously if he was talking about the owner of the shop.
"Yes. She was the one who recommended the cake to me. She had observed how probably I would always pack the piece in my tiffin with a smile on my face since one day she asked me if I was buying it for someone else." Vegas narrated the story.
"I was a little hesitant at first but her comforting face made me open up and even though I could feel my cheeks burning, I confessed that I used to buy it for a guy I had a crush on" He said and even though years had passed since the incident, he still got shy while mentioning about Pete being his childhood crush.
"Ehh? Was our little boy shy? What did the lady say to that?" Pete teased him as he curiously waited to know what happened next.
"Don't ask me, she just squealed so loudly that I almost had a heart attack thinking that she had a heart attack." He face palmed himself as he recalled the piece of memory.
"It turned out she got married to her childhood sweetheart and everytime she heard about teenagers crushing on each other, she felt excited and got giggly since it reminded her of her own teenage years. She even gave me snacks whenever I went to her shop after school to discuss about ways I could have you fall for me. She was the best love advisor one could ask for. If she still remembers me then I bet she would be over the clouds to know that I got to marry you." Vegas smiled thinking about the old lady as he wondered if she would still recognise him.
"Then, why don't we go there someday and check if she is still running the shop." Pete suggested.
"Wanna go there today then?" Vegas gave another suggestion but Pete felt unsure.
"But then what about the place that Porsche suggested? Won't he feel bad if we don't go there?" He seemed a little concerned but was instantly assured by Vegas.
"Don't worry he just wanted to make us go on a small date so he used the cafe as an excuse to propose it. " Vegas revealed. He seemed to know Porsche well, Pete thought, but then again they were probably close enough after having stayed together in the same house now that Kinn and Porsche had been engaged for a while.
"I feel jealous.....of Vegas" Pete thought, sulking in his mind. He was jealous at the thought that Vegas had got to spend so much time with Porsche and probably had experienced much more exciting things that he had ever even thought of.
The charm during the street fight that Porsche had shown him clearly had made an ever lasting impression on the ever curious child.
A while later:
Vegas' POV:
"The wounds have started healing but make sure to not walk around a lot as it may put quite a pressure and affect the healing process." The doctor instructed them as he passed a slip with the names of the required medicines to me.
Thankfully the appointment went by smoothly and after buying all the prescribed things, we were all set to leave for our next destination.
"The shop should be around here somewhere..." I whined a little as I continued to inspect the area after failing to locate it based on my hazey memory.
"Oh? Is she the one?" Pete excitedly pointed towards a shop through whose glass entrance, an old lady was partially visible. It appeared as if she was knitting something with her eyes fixated upon her lap and her fingers fluttering through the wool.
The face seemed awfully familiar, the only difference was that she had acquired more wrinkles which made her look even lovelier than she already was.
"Welcome" She smiled as she looked up towards us.
"Oh? Two handsome men entering my shop together? Am I on my way to heaven?" She joked as she got up from her seat.
"Grandma do you remember me?" I asked already expecting to receive no as an answer.
"Ah boy, my memory's all fuzzy now, you look familiar but I can't remember where exactly I have seen you." She squinted her eyes and took off her glasses to get a clear view of my face.
"Oh? I forget I can't see anymore without these" She sulked while putting the glasses back on.
She's still the same quirky and clumsy.
I thought as we both chuckled quietly at her antiques.
"Uh...do you remember the kid who used to buy cakes for his crush? The one who came crying and dancing to you everytime there was an advancement with his crush?? The one who always consulted you on matters related to love??? The one-" My desperation to be recognised was clearly increasing with each passing question but before I could ask my last question to have her recognise me, I got pulled by the shoulder down to the side by her.
"Boy! Quiet down! Is the one standing beside you, your boyfriend or your husband?" She asked me impatiently probably after noticing the matching rings that we were wearing.
"Uh...he's my husband grandma." I confirmed.
But in exchange of telling the truth, I got whacked by her.
"Talking so fondly of your crush right infront of your husband? Did you hit your head somewhere on your way to here? You two look like you got married recently, why are you so determined on getting divorced already?!" She reprimanded me in a whisper scream to make sure the magnitude of what she was trying to explain pierced my brain but also while making sure that Pete didn't hear his husband getting scolded.
I couldn't help but feel ecstatic that she had not changed a bit.
"Don't worry grandma! He's the one that I had always talked to you about! I got married to my crush!!" I informed her and the look on her face instantly changed upon hearing me.
"Haaa?! Really?!! Aren't you a lucky young man?" She clutched her heart as she smiled and dramatically wiped her invisible tears.
"Looks like my advice worked out" She smiled proudly at me.
"Do you recognise me now?" I asked in a shock with a hint of elation in my voice. From the corner of my eyes I could see Pete watching us in amusement and it looked like he was enjoying the show that was unfurling infront of him.
"Ofcourse! I recognised you right after the second sentence. There was only one lover boy that always stormed into my shop looking like he was having an existential crisis simply because his crush was busy and they couldn't meet in school or was on the verge of losing his mind simply because his crush talked to him or spent time with him. Boy you were so blindly in love with him during your teenage days!" She said as she recalled the memories from years ago and undoubtedly I was a little embarrassed to have Pete hear the things I did as a teen. But seeing him laugh delightfully dissipated all the momentary embarrassment.
"Oh? Look at all those hearts in your eyes while looking at your husband" Grandma smiled puckishly as she teased me.
"Oh to witness the lovable scenes again...never could I have imagined it till a few days ago." I thought feeling blessed.
(Writer's thought: It's memes time!!!
