Chapter 12
Third person POV:
Vegas came in hoping to see Pete sitting on the bed like always but found him sleeping instead. The quilt was covering him completely which made him a little worried about the risk of him getting suffocated under it.
"Will it be fine?" He thought to himself before moving to Pete's side and lifting the blanket a little, folded it to allow ventilation. His eyes fell on Pete's bandaged head and a pang of guilt instantly stung his heart. However, he still was relieved to see that it had been taken care of. He wanted to give him the medicines to relieve the pain but was somewhat afraid of facing him.
"Pete...are you sleeping" He whispered while sitting down on the bed beside him.
"Are you in pain...?" His voice choked.
But seeing how Pete did not give any reply, he concluded that he must have fallen asleep already.
"Can we talk in the morning tomorrow?" He said in an almost muted tone as he stroked the blanket gently but had to eventually get up defeated after getting no response.
Pete felt the other side of the bed dip and clenched the sheets. He did not want to talk to Vegas yet, the earlier incident had triggered some unpleasant memories in his mind making him reluctant to have anymore exchanges with him.
Right then his phone lit up and a message from Charlie popped up on the screen.
"Free in the morning?" The text read.
"Why?" He replied.
"Gotta take you to a place. Meet me at the same place near the Chang Chakkrawat square at 7:30 am. I have a surprise for you." He said.
His texts were like gentle rain to Pete after such strenuous times with Vegas. This made him lean towards him even more thus eliminating any possibility of distrust towards him.
From 'the same place near Chakkrawat' Charlie meant the same desolate lane where Pete had met Charlie's uncle for the first time.
"Got it" Pete agreed and after wishing him good night back, kept the phone away.
He woke up quite early in the morning the next day and was ready to start the day.
It was a little past 7 in the morning and contrary to his daily habit of waking up early, Vegas was still inside his blanket, sleeping like a piece of log.
Khwaeng Lumphini was around 20 minutes away from Chakkrawat, and even though the roads remained relatively empty during the early morning hours, to avoid the risk of getting late, Pete had decided to leave a little early.
( Khwaeng Lumphini: Locality of Teerpanyakul residence )
"Bye" He mumbled softly before glancing at Vegas for one last time and stepping out of the room. However, on his way, he found Porsche sitting in the casual living room while scrolling through his phone.
"You are up early" Porsche said lifting his eyes off the phone.
"Emotionally I don't think you are, but are you fine now physically?" He asked with a gentle expression.
"Well better than yesterday I guess?" Pete replied vaguely and he nodded without trying to push him anymore.
"Going somewhere?" Porsche asked seeing him all decked up.
"Ah well I have some work, I'll be back by evening maybe?" He said and was looking somewhat hesitant.
Porsche understood his hesitation and eased it instantly.
"I'll inform him don't worry. Enjoy the day!" Porsche wished and Pete smiled back in relief. Porsche was the only person in the family that he confided the most and his solutions and advices almost never failed to relieve his troubles.
"See you soon then" Pete smiled and continued on his way out of the house.
30 minutes later:
"You are here early" Charlie's voice reached Pete's ears making him look up from his phone.
"Uh yeah...I was just too...excited?" He said hoping Charlie wouldn't pry into the matter.
"Oh ok then, shall we go?" Charlie smiled melting Pete's heart immediately. There was something about his smile that was so enchanting that it could bewitch anyone with just a glimpse.
Pete's POV:
He had the habit of opening the door for me everytime we went anywhere together in his car but this time he went directly to the driver's seat. Maybe it was just my imagination but he was acting a little different than usual.
After I opened the door and sat down, he hit the accelerator making the car came to life immediately, thus marking the beginning of our journey. I was quite curious as to where we were heading but restrained the excitement in my heart to not vex him with my quirkiness.
About half an hour later as we were driving through a deserted road that I had never been to previously, he stopped the car and took his phone out.
My head had started feeling a little heavy maybe because of the wound and was causing quite a discomfort. However, I paid no attention to it until, the surroundings started getting blurry and as I tried to stretch my arms towards Charlie, I caught a glance of the evil smirk that had taken over his gentle features.
And it was already late by the time I realised that I had been drugged.
My last memory was Charlie's whisper "good night" followed by a cackle after which the surroundings went dark as my eyes closed completely severing my connections with the conscious world.
POV Ends.
Third Person POV:
The brightness had already left Charlie's face. With no conscious soul around him, he found it unnecessary to keep up the 'harmless sunshine' act.
From time to time he kept glancing at Pete who was lying lifelessly on the seat beside him. His hand didn't leave the steering for even a second nor did his foot leave the accelerator. It wasn't long before the car stopped near an abandoned looking house. There were mostly forests around it and the place looked like development and the dazzles of the city had failed to reach anywhere near it. There were barely any houses near it and barely could anyone see a soul or two passing by.
After making sure that no one was watching them, Charlie got out of the car and went around to open Pete's side of the door. But instead of immediately opening it, he shoved his hands inside his pocket and taking out a handkerchief started wiping the door handle thoroughly.
It was the handle that had been laced with a drug which due to direct touch, had intoxicated Pete.
After he was done, he tossed the piece of cloth into the trash bin and taking out a glove from his pocket wore it before opening the door to eliminate every risk of his bare skin coming in contact with any residuals.
He picked up Pete and dropped him in one of the inner rooms before tying him down with ropes and locking the door to prevent him from escaping.
"We'll leave at 5. Keep everything ready." He ordered someone on the phone.
Around 4:00 pm:
Pete's eyes flinched as he slowly started gaining consciousness. There was a sharp pain in his head that made him wince but the pain was overshadowed by the sudden realisation of the circumstances that he was in.
As the past events started flowing into his mind, he got extremely vigilant of his surroundings. But it didn't take long for him to tear up.
"W-why did he kidnap m-me? Wasn't I-his p-recious friend?" Trails of tears started flowing down his face as he kept crying over his misfortune.
Right then, the door opened and walked in a completely different looking Charlie. His demeanor was no longer that of a caring friend, rather it resembled a cold-blooded criminal more.
"W-hy are you d-oing this?" Pete choked out.
"I t-hought we we-re friends?" He uttered amidst the tears.
"Oh how very innocent of you" Charlie laughed mockingly.
"Have you still not realised the situation you are in?" He asked as he traced Pete's face making him flinch.
"Do you know? You are quite unlucky for yourself" Charlie said as he smiled pitifully at him.
"I usually don't target the engaged or married ones because of the complexities that may rise but my client got so obsessed with you that he even offered me double the amount of money when I tried to convince him to drop the deal after getting to know that you are already married." He had a pleased expression as if he was satisfied with the upcoming deal.
"Oh? By the way, that's right, my new client. You have met him already, do you remember? My un-cle?" He said with an amused expression before bursting out laughing upon seeing Pete's expressions change from confusion to disbelief to horror.
"Ah that's right. He's your new owner. Make sure to keep him satisfied with your service else if he gets bored with you, I'll have to kill you. So, do everything in your power to keep him entertained. Got it? My pretty boy?" He had a nasty smile on his face and from his behaviour it was clear that Pete wasn't his first target. Rather he was one of the many people who must have been fooled by him and sold to his clients at his satisfactory rates.
"Ok then be a good boy and stay put ok? I'll be back in a few minutes." He roughly squeezed Pete's cheeks as he ran his eyes over his face to make sure that there were no permanent scar marks anywhere on his face except the fresh wound that was still healing.
Pete's face was completely drenched in his tears and there was no signs of them stopping. He was helplessly sitting infront of the kidnapper, with his binded limbs and was requesting him again to again to let him go.
Charlie finally left the room leaving Pete behind and the moment he did, Pete's tears stopped flowing instantly.
"Bi*ch" He cursed him out.
"I thought my eyes were going to dry out completely with all those tears flowing out like a river" He sighed while trying to wipe his face with his sleeves.
Thankfully, before making any move he caught the sound of Charlie's footsteps approaching the room and thus decided to pretend to be weak and helpless to make him lower his guard.
He was witty enough to not let himself flaunt his bravery without a plan and make things harder for him.
"People change, people change all the time. It's an innate quality. They turn their backs on the ones they used to consider as someone 'important' without a second thought and it's not like I hadn't expected him to change, but it still hurts I don't know why.." Pete smiled painfully as he thought to himself. He was feeling terrible yet was trying his best to not let his emotions overwhelm his ability to think.
He started to wriggle and move the fastest he could and started looking for a sharp object to cut the ropes. Thankfully after looking around for a bit, he found a glass bottle.
"I need to break it" He thought before summoning his strength and slamming his body against the table on which it was kept, as hard as he could making it fall down. It broke into a number of pieces and alerted Charlie immediately with the loud sound.
Without wasting a second more, Pete took a big chunk of glass and after hiding it away, lay on floor and started thrashing about to pretend like he was protesting and trying to set himself free.
Charlie entered the room with a half-panicked expression and looked far too irritated upon seeing the the mess that Pete had created.
"You brat!" He lunged at Pete and fisting his hair painfully lifted him to stand up properly.
"Did I not tell you to stay put? You think you can escape by doing these measly tricks? Don't try to disobey me, you won't like the consequences" He warned him and roughly shoved him making him land on his butt and shards of glass pierced his palms since his hand were tied behind his back.
Charlie glared at him for a second more and then proceeded to leave the room and entered again barely three to four minutes later. But this time he had a napkin in his hands.
"Time to say bye to this place pretty little boy" He said in a high pitched tone.
He came towards Pete and after kneeling down to his level, grabbed the back of his neck before forcing the anaesthesia laced napkin against his nose and mouth.
Pete started thrashing about immediately and did everything in his power to break loose from his grasp but found no success.
Barely a few seconds to a minute later, his body fell unconscious as he stopped resisting.
"Oh? Out already?" Charlie seemed a little amazed.
"You are weaker than expected. Can't believe you were still trying to resist with this utterly weak body of yours" He chuckled in superiority as he picked Pete's limp body up and carried him to the car.
He shoved Pete's body into the trunk of the car and locked it securely. Finally, after settling down in his seat Charlie started the engine and started driving towards to their final destination where his client was supposed to complete the deal by picking Pete and paying off the set price.
About half an hour later the effect of the anaesthetic wore off making Pete gain his consciousness. Even though he had just pretended to inhale it during Charlie's forceful act, the small amount that he had taken in after being caught off-guard had resulted in him losing his alertness for a relatively shorter period of time though.
"Sh*t" He was visibly pissed at his own incompetence even though barely anything could be done in such a situation.
"Should I scream or keep hitting the trunk door until someone hears it?" He thought to himself for a second but dropped the idea almost instantly.
"The only person who's going to hear it is Charlie himself." He sighed and bumped his head against the floor dramatically in frustration.
After looking around for a minute, he finally gave up on trying to escape and decided to continue his attempts to break out of the captivity upon reaching the destination since he had overheard Charlie speaking to someone on the phone earlier about their hang time of 2 hours in the next destination before the start of the formalities for the closure of the deal.
