Pitch-black darkness completely took over me. 

"Nina----Nina" I heard a fading panic-filled voice of Jack. My body becomes weightless as it starts to lose its stability ready to collapse and break forever. 

"Nina" I again heard Jack's fading voice as I fully lost my capability of hearing any sound too. 

I felt like falling into a lake that was filled with cold winder water. I felt the cracking of ice as my body hit it to submerge it completely. The coldness of the water was giving a cooling sensation to my burning body. But soon that sensation went away even before I could breathe in a little comfort. I opened my eyes to see where exactly I was. But as I tried to open them they felt so heavy as If something was stopping them from opening it. 

I took a raging breath as pain took over me. It hurt very badly in the middle of my chest as if tons of invisible weight were kept on it to make me submerge more deep in this cold lake. I tried to push that weight away from my chest. I tried and tried but I was not able to push anything. Then I realized that invisible weight was not on my chest but inside my chest. I clenched my fist over my chest to scrape my skin and take it out of it so I can breathe for once in freedom. 

But as much as I tried to scrape my skin it hurt more as if I was trying to soothe the inside pain by scraping and giving external pain to myself. A warm tear slipped from the corner of my closed eyes and I let them get mixed with the cold water of the freezing lake. As I felt that weight sinking more into my chest going to the depth where I can't separate it from my body. I let my hands fall on my sides not wanting to take that pain away from me anymore. It felt so overwhelming that I don't want to separate anymore from myself. 

Because I didn't feel like myself anymore. The more I tried, the more severe the pain became so I let it take me to my extin to meet myself. Everything felt so strange as if I had lost myself in running away from what was condemned to happen to me one day. Suddenly a scene started playing in front of my eyes when Amila was running behind me as I was laughing hard shouting.

"catch me," I said laughing hard. 

"I'm going to catch you and then eat you" she in her dramatic voice running behind me with that huge smile on her face trying to catch me. I laughed hard listening to her words and ran more. 

I remember it I was six years old then and she was ten. We had gone on vacation to our farmhouse and I was sad as no one was there to play with me. I even had forgotten to take my favorite kitten stuff toy. When she saw my sad face she started running behind me saying if I don't run she will catch me and beat me and it made me run and smile at the same time at her silliness. 

A painful smile caressed the corner of my lips as more warm tears slipped from the corner of my eyes and mixed with cold water. She always knew how to make me happy. I want to meet myself when everything is all real again. That scene in front of my eyes started to fade slowly making me lift my hand and want to catch it into my fist so it won't vanish away in front of my eyes but it was soon replaced with an event where I was hiding behind the shelf with a big chocolate bar in my hand. 

"Nina," I heard my dad calling me but I giggled and I hid more behind the shelf so he couldn't find me. 

"Kitten, why are you eating chocolate? Did your dentist say not to eat them?" Amila asked me while trying to sound strict with me. 

I giggled and said because "I love to eat" she moved her head in amusement as she knew her strictness didn't have any effect on me. 

"Amelia, did you see Nina? She has again run away with a big chocolate bar," dad asked in his afraid voice. I looked at her with pleading eyes saying not to expose me. She moved her head more in amusement. 

"No dad, I have not seen her. Come I will help you find her" she said trying to hide me behind her. It made me giggle and exposed me. 

"You both naughty girls" dad said It made both of us run away as dad tried to take my chocolate. Our laughter was the only thing echoing in houses as we ran from dad. I want you to meet me when nothing matters but our happiness. More warm tears slipped from my eyes as that scene again faded away from my eyes and replaced it with when it was I had messed the whole kitchen trying to bake bread. I was fully covered in wheat flour. 

"Nian," Amelia said as she saw the condition of the kitchen. 

"I was trying to make bread as I learned from my storybook," I said in my small voice showing her my burned bread. She looked at it with pitiful eyes. 

"We can still eat it," she said, trying to brighten my mood as she cut the burned part of the bread. 

"Really," I asked in my hopefully happy voice and I saw her doing her magic. 

"Of course and it looks so delicious," she said as she cut more black parts. 

"Girls, where are you?" we heard dad's voice as he came back from the office. I looked at her with fearful eyes. As soon as Amelia heard the voice she patted flour on herself. 

"What happened here," dad said as he saw the state of his kitchen. He was almost on verge of panic as he loves this part of the house most. 

"Dad, I'm sorry it was me. I slipped with flour in my hands," she said in her guilty voice, making me hide behind her. From behind her, I peeked towards the dad and he knew who the trouble maker was as he moved his head in amusement. 

She always stood in front of me like my shield to protect me from dad's scolding even when I was always causing trouble in the house and to her. I smiled and remembered dad's face as he tried my burned bread. I want to meet myself again when someone tries to protect me like she used to do. 

I want to meet myself when day and night meet to become one. I want to meet myself when stars in the sky glint more brightly looking at us and take us to nothingness.

All my thoughts made me sink deeper into the dark freezing lake as all happy moments started to fade away from my memory as if no happiness was left in my eyes. All the people I love started to vanish one by one. I felt a big hole inside me like all the people I love started to leave me one by one. Suddenly an event of that awful night started to play in front of my eyes making me breathe heavily as I found breathing hard. 

Now I was no more in cold water but my body was completely drenched in rainwater. I tried to gasp for more air and tried to run towards her to save her but my legs fumbled making me fall flat on the cold ground and still gasping for air. I called her name many times but she didn't hear my voice. I shouted more loudly but she still did hear my crying voice. But before she could hear my voice everything was over. 

"Amelia" I shouted with all my might while opening my tight shut eyes wide with force. I gasped for air as my lungs burned and my body became colder with cold beads of sweat forming on my forehead. I tried to stand and run but before my body could get up from bed a warm body was wrapped around me. 

"Let me go, she needs my help," I said in my crying voice as I felt my body becoming weaker. 

"She needs me she is so alone and in pain" I cried as more tears slipped from my eyes. 

"Shuuu. Everything will be fine" said the softest voice as he caressed my hair and back to soothe me. He was moving his hands on my back like trying to take the pain away from me. He hugged me more tightly as I tried to get out of his hold. 

"She needs me," I said in my small crying voice as Amelia's pained filled face flashed in front of my eyes. He let me go and took hold of my face as he wiped fresh tears falling from my eyes. Tilting my face a little up he made me look at him with my glassy eyes. 

"She doesn't need anyone. She is at peace and happy and now she wants you to be happy too," he said while looking me in the eye. I started back in light brown eyes. 

"Is she not in pain anymore," I asked in my hopeful voice as I kept looking into his light brown eyes. 

"Promise," he said with full sincerity in his eyes as he kissed my forehead. Not thinking anymore I hugged him tightly which made him wrap his hands around me as he continued moving his hand on my back in a soothing manner. 

The feeling of being protected I felt in his warm embracement making me bury my face more in his neck to take a breath of protection. My eyes started to close again as I felt exhausted. He broke our hug and made me lie back on the bed. He moved all the hair away from my face as my head was resting on the pillow. I found myself in a different room. I moved my half-opened eyes all over the white room. I was in hospital as an IV was attached to my hand. 

I moved my eyes away from the IV and looked at him. I kept looking at him as he covered my body with covers as my body felt cold. He looked so stressed his face was looking so paler than mine. His hair looked as if he had moved his hands so many times in it. He had a small stubble on his face as if he had not looked at himself for so many days. 

"I will go and call the doctor. Don't get up from the bed, your body is still so weak," he said in his firm voice, making me nod at him slightly. 

"I will be back soon with the doctor," he said and kissed me on my forehead before going out of the room. I kept looking at his back till he completely disappeared away from my sight. I lifted my hand and moved to my forehead where his lips touched. Whenever he did that it made me feel weird in my heart. Every time he kissed me on my forehead my heart skipped a beat. I closed my eyes for a bit as I felt like sleeping again. Nextime when I opened my eyes I found the doctor entering the room. He was a young doctor as he gave me his bright smile making me smile light at him. Behind him, Jack too entered the room. His eyes furrowed when he saw the doctor smiling at me. Jack came and stood beside me. 

"Let's check how you are doing," he said as he started checking me and asking questions about how I was feeling. "Everything is fine with you but your body is still weak. You need to take care of yourself and stop ignoring your health. I will write down some vitamin tablets so you don't forget to take them on time" he said while scribbling the name of tablets on the pad. My face grimed at the names of tablets. Jack looks at my grimed face. 

"Doctor prescribed her some vitamin syrup. She hates taking tablets. She will probably throw them instead of eating them," Jack said in his firm voice making me look at him with wide eyes. How did he know I was going to do that. I always did that whenever the doctor gave me tablets so dad made a habit of taking syrup instead of it and always made me drink it in front of him. The doctor smiled in amusement and scribed something more on his pad. 

"Brother," the doctor asked me while gesturing towards Jack. 

"No fiance," Jack said as he lifted my IV attached hand to show him my ring before I could even say something. From the look on doctors' faces, it was clear that he knew he was my fiance. 

"My bad," he said as he handed the prescription to Jack with a playful smile on his face. It was looking like he was trying to pull Jack's leg. It made my lips curl a bit as the doctor gave me an approving smile. 

"When can I take her home?" he asked in his mad firm voice. 

"Today she has to stay here. You can take her tomorrow. I will come to check on you again" he said with a smile on his face. Listening to his words Jack looked at him with glaring eyes. The doctor left after it. 

"I will go and get the medicines," he said as he was about to go out of the room. I grabbed his hand and made him stop. He looked at me with questioning eyes. 

"Does dad know?" I asked while looking at him. He will be worried after knowing I'm in the hospital. The last time I was in the hospital for a stomach ache he didn't leave my side for a second. 

"Yes, he knows he is on his way here with my mom and dad too," he said as he was looking at the prescription. "You rest I will send a nurse in to check your IV," he said as he looked at me for the last time and left the room. In some time nurses came. She gave me her smile and as she came and stood in front of me to change the glucose bottle. 

"Your husband was so worried for you all night, he was pacing around in the room without sleeping for a second," she said as she changed the bottle with a warm smile on her face. Her words made me look at her with surprised eyes. 

"I was here from last night," I asked in my shocked voice. 

"No, he brought you here in the afternoon while screaming on top of his lungs to the doctor to attend to you," she said in her amused voice. Making me look at her with more shock. When she said my husband something happened inside me. I wanted to correct her but she continued talking. 

"He had taken the whole hospital on his head. You are lucky to have such a loving husband," she said as she looked at me with her smiling face. Before I could correct her dad entered the room. 

"Kitten" dad said in his worried voice as he saw me lying in the bed. He walked at a fast pace and took my hand in his. The nurse silently walked out of the room. "What happened that made you collapse as these" dad asked in his worried voice. 

"Dad It's nothing," I said, trying to calm him down when Jack came back with the medicine. 

"Jack, why didn't you tell me this before? Why did you call me only when she got her consciousness back?" dad asked in his angry voice as he clenched my hand lightly. 

"Doctor told me it was nothing to worry about so I didn't call you to make you worry," he said in his calm voice. Dad breathed in relief when he said nothing was wrong with me. Just my exhaustion took over me. 

"Just inform me first if her health is bad. She is the only child of mine now I won't be able to live with It if something happens to her," he said while swallowing his heavy lump in his throat. 

"Dad, I'm totally fine," I said, not wanting him to hurt anymore. 

Uncle and aunty came as they were worried about me too. Aunty asked the doctor about my report and he told her I have not been eating properly. She scolded me and Jack for a full one hour. Dad said that in his firm voice that he was going to take me with him tomorrow and it put Jack in full distress. 

He immediately refused dad making us all look at him. They all moved their head in disbelief when he refused dad to take me with him even after he told him that he is taking me with him as the wedding is in this same week. All were looking at me with the look in their eyes that made my face burn red. Aunty told me once I'm feeling well she will take me to the wedding designer. 

They left in the evening with dad when Jack forced them to go. I rested for a bit until dinner time. Jack wants to feed me first then eat his food but I refused and told him to eat food with me. I know he must have not eaten anything from yesterday. After we were done eating he made me take my medicine. He smiles looking at my face after I took the medicine which made me glare at him. 

He got a call and he went to attend it and I decided to sleep. Soon medicine started to show its effect and I slept. In the middle of the night when I tried to move I felt a big hand on my waist. I moved to face him to find him sleeping like a baby. I moved the hair away from his forehead. He must be so tired after taking care of me. I still can't believe Jack the big baby took care of me. 

I moved my fingers on his nose and slowly on his cheeks. I remembered what was written in the file. It was a prenup made by my mom even before I was born. I was in her womb when it was made that I will marry Miller's son to continue the legacy of our charity function of Amelia foundation even after she is not here to see it. 

Was I the only one he was supposed to marry not Amelia? 

Those papers had your mom sign how they can be wrong. 

I was lost in my thoughts when he suddenly moved, making me take my hands away from his face. I kept looking at him as he moved more near my chest to snuggle as he always does while wrapping his hands around me as I will run away from here. My hand hovered above his body as he slept and hugged me. 

Can I trust this man again? He had already broken my heart once, what if he does it again. 

Will I be happy after marrying him?
