Chapter Thirty-One

Jungkook threw his arms around Yoongi’s neck, resting his head on his shoulder.

“Did I cause this?” Yoongi asked, rubbing his hair soothingly.

“What do you think?” He asked.

Yoongi chuckled, wrapping his other arm around Jungkook’s waist and pulling him into a hug. “Poor baby.”

He’d barely been able to keep his eyes open for the first three periods of class. It was lunch break now, and he was looking forward to take a nap in one of the break rooms with a bed. Usually, students were not allowed to use the break rooms because some students had turned the place into a brothel a few years back.

Now, the place was only opened when absolutely needed, like in case of an emergency or when a VIP student was sick. Jungkook wasn’t sick but he was VVIP. He hated to use his status to get favors but he had no choice. He really needed to sleep if he intended to function for the rest of the day.

He leaned away from Yoongi, pushing his hair away from his face. “I have to go take a nap.”

“Aren’t you having lunch?” Yoongi asked. “Where are you going to? Where do you keep disappearing to at lunch?”

“The Break room,” he answered. “Someone kept me up all night, now I can barely keep my eyes open.”

Before Yoongi would badger him with more questions, Jungkook walked away, heading out of the building. The break rooms were located in a different building from where Jungkook took his classes. A small section with four private rooms had been carved out the sports centre with the auditorium, the pool, the basketball court, the hall used for parties and events.

It took a moment before he got there. The staff in charge flashed him a smile upon seeing him there. She handed the key to one of the room to him without a question. “Can you wake me up when the bell rings?” He asked her, not trusting himself to wake up at the right time.

“Of course, Jungkook.”

“Thank you,” he said to her before slipping into the room.

The break room was dimly lit and smelt fruity. There was a single yellow bulb hanging in the room with a large bed pushed up against the far end of the room. At the corner of the room was a mini fridge stocked with energy drinks, protein bars and bottles of water.

Jungkook felt exhaustion hit him like a break even before he got to the bed. He sent a quick text to Jin and the instant his head hit the soft pillow, he was out like a light.

Jungkook was certain he’d only blinked before he felt a tap on his shoulder. He ignored it, hoping whomever it was would go away but the tap came again. This time, he groaned tiredly.

“What?” He asked, groggily into the pillow, his eyes still shut.

“Can I please talk to you?” a voice said. He couldn’t place whose voice it was. Maybe, because he was too tired. His brain was acting up. Either way, he didn’t want to indulge whoever it was.

“No,” he said, hugging the pillow to himself.

“Jungkook, please. It’s me, Hanuel.”

He hadn’t heard right.

He’d heard wrong.

He hadn’t just heard Han-

Jungkook sprang up from the bed, spinning to face the person that had just spoken to him. His eyes must be deceiving him, because Hanuel couldn’t be standing less than a feet away from him, in a face cap and a mask. He’d entered the school disguised.

“What the hell are you doing here?!” Jungkook snapped. “First of all, get the fuck away from me.”

“Jungkook, please, listen-“

“I said, get the fuck away from me!”

Hanuel put his hands up and took a few steps back, creating a space between them, but even if Hanuel had been standing on the other side of the room the space wouldn’t be wide enough. His presence alone was sucking away all the air and Jungkook felt like he was about to suffocate.

"How did you get into the school without a student ID?"

"I texted. I emailed. I called. You weren’t responding to any of them. I couldn't go to your house so I had no choice but to come here. I’m sorry, Jungkook. I swear I didn’t know what I was-”

“I don’t want to hear it! You assaulted me and now you’re seeking closure?” He barked in disbelief.  Every feeling of tiredness had evaporated from his body.

“I wasn’t thinking straight. I don’t know what came over me. I should never have touched you or kissed you without your permission. I've regretted it every day since that day. You trusted me enough to come to Jeju and I broke your trust.”

“For the record, I have never trusted you. I just underestimated how much of a freak you are.”

Hanuel nodded. He pulled the facemask from his face and pocketed it. “I know. Whatever you say, I deserve it and more. And I have no excuse for how I acted and how I treated you. I haven’t been able to eat properly or sleep knowing what I did, knowing how shameful I acted. I will never forgive myself for it.”

The memory of Hanuel holding onto him forcibly, rendering Jungkook powerless for a couple of seconds flashed in his head. The fear that Jungkook had felt in that moment, the embarrassment he’d felt and the shaming he’d received online, all of that came rushing back to him. “I will never forgive you for it, either.”

“I know, and even at that, I’m truly sorry.”

“No, I’m the one who’s sorry. I’m sorry to the President who has a disgraceful pervert for a Son, and I am sorry to your friends who are stuck with such a terrible, excuse for a human as a friend.”

Hanuel’s lips quivered. He brought his hand up to cover his mouth as tears fell from his eyes.

Seeing Hanuel that way made him so angry. He clenched his fist because it was the only way he wouldn’t throw it in Hanuel’s face. “You’re so unbelievable. Thinking you could show up at my school and play the pity card. Do you think I’ll fall for this bullshit? Do you think I would ever believe a single word that leaves your rotten mouth? Or the crocodile tears you’re shedding?” Jungkook shook his head. “This means nothing. You just wasted your time coming here because I will not give you that closure you need.”

He didn’t ask Hanuel to leave. He’d already ruined his atmosphere in the room with his presence. Instead, Jungkook made his way past Hanuel and exited the room. The reception area was empty meaning Hanuel had snuck in on his own without meeting the receptionist, just to spew his rubbish.

Jungkook’s heart raced and his hands shook. Tears burned his eyes and he tried to force them back.  He fisted his hands to stop them from shaking. With his head down, he walked on until he found an empty room, where he collapsed against the wall and cried.
