Chapter Sixteen

Saying Jin was upset was an understatement. He was livid and irritated at Hoseok, for making a fool out of himself, for making a fool out of Jin and more than everything, Jesus Christ, for embarrassing Namjoon the way he did.

It was more annoying that Hoseok didn't see the wrong in what he did because to him he was only protecting Jin which was ridiculous seeing as he was the one who got Jin the 'bodyguard' job which put Jin exactly at risk.

He just didn't understand it. Hoseok was bent on seeing him like a child, which was only infuriating, because the both of them knew that Namjoon was right. Jin might be eighteen but his mindset was way beyond that. He'd had to grow up at a young age, when his peers where just to be kids.

Whatever fears Hoseok possessed was based on a past that Jin had sworn off. Jin had promised to never be the same person he used to be two years ago—angry, vengeful and vindictive. He'd promised him and Hoseok, but Hoseok didn't believe him. He still saw Jin as a ticking time bomb that was going to explode spontaneously.

Jin was too damn stressed thinking the whole thing over and over and over again in his head, and that just destroyed his motif for even coming over.

He'd tried calling Namjoon since he stormed out, but he wasn't taking any of Jin's calls. It was understandable, but hurtful, nonetheless. All Jin had wanted was to hang out with his two favorite hyungs. He'd just wanted one evening where he didn't have to worry about anything but instead, chill back and just do guys stuff.

He groaned in frustration. He was sitting on the edge of the bed in Hoseok's guest room, his elbows planted on his knees with his fingers intertwined while his head hung low between his shoulders. His eyes stayed closed as he recalled the look on Namjoon's face.

Namjoon had expressed various emotions that evening; hurt, annoyance, fury, irritation, confusion.. but of all of them, the one look that was imprinted in Jin's memory was that of him shocked. Shocked at Hoseok's vile words when he'd called him a bad influence. Because even Namjoon knew he wasn't a bad influence on Jin.

If anything, Namjoon was whom Jin needed most in his life, because unlike Hoseok, whose plan was to cage Jin, Namjoon actually encouraged Jin to come out of his shell. He let Jin flirt and drink alochol and have flings in moderation because he knew that Jin needed those things.

Jin's life was a mess and Namjoon saw it. He knew too much was going on and Jin needed some vices to balance it all out, or he might just lose it. Namjoon permitted Jin to do whatever he wanted, but he would also draw Jin back if he ever had too much. He was a good person, and all Jin had wanted to do that evening was to show it to Hoseok.

Unfortunately, his plan had backfired. Now, all Jin hoped for was for Namjoon to not desert him. With Hoseok's words and how he'd stepped all over Namjoon's ego as a man, he might decide that Jin was a kid after all and stop interacting with him.

And Jin couldn't afford that. He couldn't bear to lose another important person in his life. So, he grabbed his phone from the middle of the bed where he'd tossed it to earlier, and composed a text message to Namjoon. Even if he couldn't speak to Namjoon, he was still going to pass his message across.

You have to realize that you're important to me. Hoseok's just being protective because of my past, I promise it has nothing to do with you. I am so sorry for what happened tonight. All I wanted to do was spend time with the both of you and I really hoped it would go well. I'm really sorry. Truly and deeply.

After sending the text, he fell backwards on the bed, staring up at the white ceiling, surrounded by white walls with a white drawer pushed against the wall, next to the door. He couldn't stop thinking about what Hoseok had done. He'd gone too far.

Jin couldn't help but think that this would never have happened if he'd been on his job. If he'd agreed to go to Jeju with Jungkook, his entire focus would have been on protecting the Prince and trying to not get completely put off by him because Jungkook was the most annoying person on the face of the earth.

Actually, scratch that. He was the second most annoying person on the face of earth, but he used to top that list. Now, the position was being held by the one and only Officer, most irritating man on the police force, Hoseok.

God. If Namjoon ended their friendship because of this rubbish, Hoseok had better be ready for the hell Jin would unleash on him. Jin's phone vibrated on his chest. Quickly, he picked it up to find a text from Namjoon.

No apologies needed. You're important to me, too. I don't care what that dickface cop has to say, I'm not going anywhere.

Relief washed through Jin. He fingered through his hair, the tension he felt instantly easing.

His phone vibrated again. He knew it was Namjoon again, probably cussing out Hoseok more. Jin hoped that was the case because Hoseok deserved to be cussed out and at.

But it wasn't from Namjoon. He sat upright on the bed, staring at the words on his screen not able to make complete sense of it.

Royal Bratness: ASSHOLE!

Royal Bratness: This is all your fault, you scar faced jerk.

Not this, Jin frowned. He'd hoped to take a break from the drama in his life. Why the hell was Jungkook texting him at 11 pm and cussing him? Jin felt a mix of confusion and irritation, and before he knew it he was dialing Jungkook's phone number.

The universe was just testing him in all ways that evening. Everyone he hoped wouldn't be a problem for him was being a problem for him.

"Jungkook, what the actual fuck-"

"You did it on purpose didn't you?" Jungkook asked. He sounded strange, almost like he was slurring his words. "You did it to get away from me."

Jin stood in the center of the room, staring at nothing because his eyes were focused on something but he couldn't see anything that made sense. What he saw was Jungkook, upset at him for whatever reason. He was trying to wrap his head around what was going on.

"What did I do?" Jin asked, softening his voice.

He heard Jungkook cuss under his breath, then scoff. "You hate me. I see the way you look at me like your sworn enemy, and the way you talk to me like I'm dirt even though I'm worth more than twenty of your generations to come put together could ever be worth. I know you hate working for us, because it means you're stuck with me."

"Jungkook, you're the most annoying person that I know but I don't hate you. My job is to protect you. Why would I want to protect someone that I hate?"

From the sounds of wave crashing and the winds blowing heavily through the phone, Jin could tell that Jungkook was not inside. He was somewhere outside by that time of the night. "Where are you right now?"

"Hiding," Jungkook answered immediately. "I'm hiding because of you."

"I'm not even there. Why would you be hiding because of me?"

"Exactly. You're not here. You're so spiteful that you left me by myself to come on this trip..."

"Jungkook, I didn't leave you. I told you that I was going to see my parents. It's the truth," Jin said. "I would have gone with you otherwise, you know that."

Jungkook was quiet after that. The sound of the waves grew louder and the wind got heavier. In that moment, Jin felt sincere worry. In that moment, he wished more than anything he was there in jeju, so he could understand why Jungkook was acting this way.

"Now, that bastard... That manipulative bastard..." He mumbled

"What bastard? What happened? Talk to me. Did someone do something?" He asked.

So many questions. Not a single response.

"Jungkook?" Jin called, taking a seat on the bed and cradling his head in his one free hand. "Can we put aside our differences and talk?" Jin reasoned.

Jungkook made a sound. He was muffling his sobs and Jin could hear it loud and clear. It was strained and pained.

"Jesus fucking Christ, Jungkook."

"Forget I called," Jungkook said and then hung up.
