Epilogue
"Mama! Mama! Look!"
A faint flurry of little giggles echoes around the house making me unable to stop the smile spreading across my cheeks. My chest bursting with utter joy at the excited demeanour of the voice. Happiness swirls in my stomach as I set my sketchbook down. I manoeuvre myself around the many toys my little baby bird has left out on the floor while trying to head to the backyard. Avoiding the Lego bricks and the stuffed animals, I managed to get to the french windows in the back and lean against the doorway to behold the sight of Keigo holding our little five year old close to his chest.
Surrounding them, are our three dogs. Angel, of course, is wagging her tail happily and barking toward Keigo who sticks his tongue out and ruffles her fur every now and then. Waiting for a ball to be thrown, is our rescue dog: Olive, who is two years old (just out of their puppy stage) and is a soft chocolate Labrador who adores affection. Laying on his back, legs in the air and tongue hanging out with his belly being scratched by Keigo, is our other rescue dog: Junior, who is one eight months old and is still a pup. Junior is an adorable little cocker spaniel with bright blue eyes.
As soon as my daughter's eyes lay upon me, she squeals and wriggles out of Keigo's grasp to smash herself into me. Happily, I wrap my arms around her tightly and pull her up while kissing her cheek. Her bright yellow eyes gleam with nothing but utter happiness as she kisses my cheek and rests her head on my shoulder gently. My little angel just recently turned five in May. My little Gemini. My moon baby.
Tori Takami was born on May 24th at 02:06 in the morning. She weighed seven and a half pounds. She was this tiny little thing that the doctors gave me that I instantly fell in love with the moment she was in my arms. Tori has beautiful (h/c) hair that is shoulder length and is always styled in bunches. Like her father, she has bright yellow irises and the bird markings with an expanse of freckles across her nose and cheeks. On her back, she has beautiful red and white feathers that ombré down from red to white. They're gorgeous.
Her quirk hasn't manifested yet although Keigo is certain that she'll develop a quirk not much different to his own.
Her godmother is Rumi. Otherwise known as Mirko. Who adores the crap out of the girl and always spoils her no matter what the price. Her godfather is Taishiro. Otherwise known as FatGum, who loves to make little sweet treats for his goddaughter whenever she wants (Keigo wanted Endeavor to be godfather but I put my foot down on that one). Tori is adored by almost everyone who meets her. She just has that little charm that Keigo has.
Currently, Keigo is trying to teach her how to fly. Little baby steps, at the moment. He's been teaching her how to flap her wings, holding her up while she attempts to flutter them which is the most adorable sight ever. Her face scrunches up when she concentrates and her hands curl into little fists. Her feet wiggle too, like she's trying to propel through the air without actually having to flap her wings. It's a work in progress, if I'm being honest.
Learning to fly is no easy feat.
I turn my attention toward my husband who pushes to his feet and walks over. His lips press against mine for a soft moment, kissing me chastely before chirping toward his daughter who chirps back happily. Keigo and I finally got married when I was seven months pregnant and almost ready to pop. We went to a registry office, got ourselves married and threw a large party at our place to celebrate. We're now five years married, it'll be seven years being together in July. Something that I never thought would have happened in all my years of being alive.
"Hey gorgeous," Keigo coos, smiling as I look up at him and rub Tori's back as she snuggles close into my chest, "Wanna show mama what we were doing, To - To?"
"Yeah! Yeah! Mama! Watch!" Tori squeals, squeezing out of my grip and running into the centre of the garden and making grabby hands toward Keigo who walks over, "Ready?"
"I'm ready baby, I'm ready," I tell her, rubbing the back of my neck as I sit down on the decking and watch as Keigo takes my daughters hands into here, "What are you gonna do?"
Giggling happily, Tori takes a deep breath and begins to flap her wings. Keigo chuckling to himself as his daughter's face scrunches up in utter concentration. Her red and white wings slowly flapping as Keigo lifts her up, letting her keep herself upright. Bright yellows irises gleam with utter happiness as Tori let's go of her fathers hands and manages to keep herself upright just by herself. My eyes widen as big as saucers. Oh my god...
My baby is flying!
My little baby girl can fly on her own! Sure she can't move but she can fly in place! It's amazing! She can fly on her own in place!
Without a moment of hesitation, I race toward her and wrap my arms around her tightly while she cheers. My heart swelling with utter happiness as she claps her hands and squeals while I shower her face with a bunch of butterfly kisses. Behind me, Keigo smiles and hugs me. A faint giggle leaves Keigo's lips as I lean into him and press another kiss to his lips. Happiness couldn't stop leaving our vicinity. Our baby can fly! This is a huge thing!
"Good girl! My smart little baby!" I cheer, throwing her up in the air and twirling her away while she giggles and snuggles into my warmth, "Shall we celebrate? Hm? Shall we get takeout? Do you want to choose?"
"Fried chi —"
"No! Daddy, we had that yesterday!" Tori grumbles making me snort as snuggles into my chest and fiddles with my hair, "Uncle Enji said that too much fried chicken is bad,"
"He also said having kids was bad and he has four," Keigo mutters making me giggle to myself as he huffs and crosses his arms, "Can't believe my kids favourite food isn't fried chicken! Are you sure she's mine?"
"Yeah, I told you, I tried to swap the babies at the hospital," I tease, kissing her cheek as she sticks her tongue out at Keigo, "I tried to give the nurses a receipt for them to take her back and they told me that my daughter can't be taken back because I have a receipt for washing powder and soap,"
"Damn nurses," Keigo coos, peppering Tori's face with kisses making her squeal out with giggles, "Now what does my little chickadee want? Sushi? Burgers? Pizza?"
"Mmm... pizza!" Tori announces, throwing her hands in the air while smiling brightly toward us making both Keigo and I melt under her gaze, "I want cheese pizza!"
Tori, in this current moment in time, is currently going through phases of food. I think every kid goes through phases with food, if I'm being honest. One minute all she wants is a cheeseburger and the next minute she wants a hot dog. Her favourite food chops and changes as the tide goes through and is sometimes hard for both Keigo and I to catch up. Yesterday, she loved spinach and really wanted a salad with said green leafed vegetable in (Keigo thought she had been possessed. What kid wants healthy food?). Today it's pizza.
Keigo finds it a crime that his daughter, his flesh and blood, doesn't have fried chicken as her all time favourite food. He also found it a crime when she turned around and said that Fatgum was her favourite super hero and that Uravity was her second favourite and Froppy was her third favourite. Endeavor wasn't even in the top ten, Shoto was number seven but that's besides the point. What matters is that I won and Keigo can kiss my ass!
Fatgum rules! Endeavor stinks! Thank you god!
Nodding gently, I let Tori go off to her own devises while I order the pizza. Ordering a chicken bbq feast pizza for Keigo and I to share as well as a cheese pizza and a pepperoni pizza as I know Tori will want more than just cheese pizza. With it all paid for and being made and delivered, I look toward my husband who wraps his arm around my shoulders and pulled me into his side while our three dogs run inside ready for their own dinner.
"Hey, I wanna tell you something," Keigo begins, shutting the back door and leading me through to our bedroom where we are alone and Tori can't hear us, "I was thinking..."
"That can't be good," I tease, smiling as he rolls his eyes fondly toward me and sticks his tongue out while I sit down on our bed, "Your brain hurt from all that thinking?"
"Oh, ha, ha," Keigo hums, kissing me softly while I lean into his touch, "As I was saying, I was thinking that maybe... if you think it's okay, maybe we could actually have a wedding soon. I mean, Tori is five now... and I want to see her in a little bridesmaid dress and you... you in a wedding dress and not a cute dress you wear for dates,"
"You want a wedding?" I ask softly, watching as he nods gently and fiddles with the wedding ring on my finger, "Keigo, are you sure? You're always about quick and fast... weddings didn't seem like your thing,"
"Well I want one, I want to make memories with our baby girl... I want to have a first dance and cut that giant ass cake with mini us on top... I want to see you in a gorgeous dress," Keigo explains, wrapping his arms around me while I look up at him, "I want to do the cliché wedding, then go out on a fantastic honeymoon with you to Australia or something..."
"Kei... that sounds amazing," I tell him, cupping his cheeks in my hands while he stares at me and leans into them, "If you really want that, I'm more than happy to do it... it sounds like a dream..."
"I would really like that," Keigo replies, holding me close as we smiles, "God, I love you so much..."
"I love you too," I muse, kissing his cheek before snorting as Tori bounds in with the three dogs right behind her and jump all over us. Both Keigo and I burst into laughter as Tori beams happily at us, "Hey angelwings, what's up?"
"Want cuddles!" Tori declares, wrapping her tiny arms around Keigo and I before snuggling in, "You can't keep them all to yourself!"
As Keigo chuckles and teases with his daughter, I couldn't help but smile. If you were to tell fifteen year old me that in almost twelve years time, I would be married to my high school bully and the mother to his child, I would have laughed and thought you were joking. If you'd told me that I'm head over heels for this stupid bird, that he's my one and only, I'd cringe out of embarrassment and leave you to simmer. It's almost unbelievable. I am married to Keigo Takami.
It's a rather strong bond that we have, I have to admit. It's not everyday you see people marrying their high school bullies... I mean, I could have put my foot down and left my job at the modelling agency. I could have refused to work with Keigo after everything that happened... but I didn't. I gave him that second chance.
Boy, am I glad I did...
People that know our history often question how healthy our relationship is. They ask how we managed to develop a relationship after he made my life utter hell in the beginning. We always tell them the same thing: it's about second chances.
Yes, Keigo was a bastard but there's always something behind the actions. A motive. Kids don't act like that unless there's something going on at home or in their personal life or at school. It could be stress. Could be a bad upbringing. Could be anxiety or something like that. Keigo had a bad upbringing... his father left him at a young age and his mother practically served him to the commission on a silver platter, not wanting him anymore. He was angry, with himself and his parents, and needed to take it out. What matters is he saw his mistake and he rectified it. That's what I care about most.
Keigo is my everything. He's my best friend. He's my boyfriend. He's my husband. He's my shoulder, my rock, my anchor during hard times. He's my pride and my joy. Just like Tori is to me too.
"My girls... I love you both so much!"...
"Daddy! I love you and mama too!"...
"I love you both so much more,"...
