"You can love me or hate me but... you can't ignore me." - Shah Rukh Khan

IT was the weekend, the day Sana and Julia had planned to visit Siya's house. Originally, it was supposed to be a small friend's get-together, but things had changed. Earlier that morning, Siya had messaged Sana with a sudden update-her father had decided to throw a grand party at their house to celebrate the success of his new business project.

This meant that the simple gathering had now turned into a formal event with business associates, including the parents of Ram and Siya's boyfriend, Sidharth Kapoor. It would also likely feature other high-profile guests.

Sana's first reaction was an immediate refusal.

"Julia, we can't go now. This is going to be awkward," Sana groaned, staring at the message on her phone. "It's not just a few friends anymore. Her parents will be there, plus Ram, her boyfriend Sidharth's parents, and a bunch of other people I don't know. It'll be weird."

Julia peered over her shoulder, reading the message. "Oh, great. A corporate party. That's exactly what I needed on a Saturday night," she muttered sarcastically. "We could still bail?"

Sana sighed, already typing out a polite refusal. But before she could hit send, another message popped up from Siya, practically begging them to come.

Siya: Please, you guys have to come! I swear, I'll die of boredom if you don't. Don't do this to me. Our friendship is just starting, and you're already ditching me? Swear on our new friendship!

Sana sighed deeply. "She's playing the emotional card."

Julia raised an eyebrow. "Oh no. Friendship oath? We're doomed."

Sana reluctantly typed back: Fine, but we'll leave early.

As soon as they agreed to go, they had to get their parents' permission. Sana's mother had been unusually cool about it, agreeing to let her attend on the condition that she and Julia return by 10 p.m. sharp.

"If anything feels wrong, you call us, okay?" Sana's mom had warned. "Your dad or I will come and pick you both up."

"Yes, yes, Maa, we know," Sana had reassured her. "We'll be fine."

Now, the clock was ticking, and the girls were getting ready at Sana's house. It was already 5 p.m., and they had to leave soon. Sana's Scooty was still at the shop, being repainted after the disaster Sidharth had caused, so they planned to take an Uber to save time. Julia had come over early, and the two of them were in full prep mode.

Julia was still in the bathroom finishing up her makeup when she called out, "Sana, I'm done! Should I come out?"

"Wait a minute!" Sana quickly pulled up the zipper of her black off-shoulder dress, taking a deep breath. "Okay, come out."

Julia stepped out of the bathroom and gasped as soon as she saw Sana.

"Wow! Babe, you look so sexy," Julia exclaimed, eyes wide as she took in Sana's outfit.

Sana blushed a little. "Thanks, Julia. You're not looking too bad yourself," she replied, smiling as she looked at her best friend.

Julia twirled in her wine-colored knee-length dress, grinning. "I know, right? But seriously, Sana, you're killing it with that dress."

Sana chuckled. "You're just flattering me so I don't panic."

Julia shook her head. "Nope. I'm saying it because you're going to be turning heads tonight."

Then Julia's expression shifted, a playful smirk forming on her lips. "Do you think he will be there?"

Sana frowned. "Who?"

"Sidharth Vyas," Julia clarified, her tone teasing. "You know, the guy whose ego you bruised when you slapped him in front of half the college? Twice? Plus, you made him so sit-ups holding ears in front of the whole college?"

Sana's stomach tightened at the mention of him. "Why would he be there? He's not friends with Siya."

"True," Julia said, raising a finger. "But his father is a big businessman, just like Siya's dad. Maybe the families know each other."

Sana rolled her eyes. "Great. As if tonight wasn't stressful enough, now I have to worry about running into him."

Julia shrugged. "I'm just saying. Be prepared."

"Whatever," Sana muttered.

Julia grabbed her shoulders playfully. "We need to keep you calm, okay? Now, come on, we're already running late. It's almost 5, and we need to be out of here in, like, ten minutes if we want to get to Siya's on time."

The girls quickly shifted into high gear. Sana sat down in front of the mirror to finish her makeup while Julia worked on her hair.

Sana opted for a light but sophisticated look-dark smoky eyes, bold red lipstick, and her hair in loose curls that cascaded down her back.

Julia, always the bolder one, went for a more dramatic look-smoky eyes, deep red lipstick, and her hair styled sleek and straight, falling perfectly to her shoulders.

Both girls looked glamorous but not overly done, striking the perfect balance for a formal yet fun party.

Sana finished up and grabbed her black high heels. "Alright, I think we're ready."

Julia struck a dramatic pose. "Yes, my sexy lady. Let's slay this party!" She leaned over and kissed Sana's cheek, making Sana scrunch her face in mock disgust.

"Ugh, Julia!" Sana laughed, pushing her away. "Stop it, you're messing up my makeup!"

Julia grinned. "I can't help it. You look adorable when you're annoyed."

"Come on," Sana said, shaking her head with a smile. She grabbed Julia's hand and pulled her out of the room.

When they walked out into the living room, Sana's mother was waiting by the door, smiling warmly at the sight of them.

"Oh, look at my beautiful girls!" she said, her eyes shining with pride. "You both look stunning."

"Thanks, Maa," Sana said, blushing.

"But remember," her mother's tone shifted to a more serious note, "stay together and don't stay out too late. If anything happens, you call us immediately. Got it?"

"Yes, Aunty, we'll be careful," Julia chimed in. "We'll call you if there's anything."

Sana's mom nodded, though a trace of concern remained on her face. "Good. And no drinking. You know the rules."

"Yes, Maa. No drinking. We'll be home by 10, I promise."

Satisfied, Sana's mother kissed her on the forehead. "Alright, then. Go have fun, but remember what I said."

"Bye, Maa!" Sana waved as she and Julia rushed out the door, heading towards their Uber.

As soon as they were on the road, Julia turned to Sana with a mischievous grin. "So... if Sidharth Vyas does show up, what's your plan?"

Sana groaned, leaning back against the seat. "I'll ignore him. I'm not in the mood to deal with his nonsense."

Julia smirked. "Easier said than done. You know he's going to try something. Especially after what happened with your Scooty."

Sana sighed, her mind drifting back to the chaos Sidharth Vyas had caused. The damage to her Scooty still stung, and while she'd made sure he was forced to apologize, it wasn't enough. Not after everything he had done.

But tonight wasn't about him. She wouldn't let him ruin her evening.

"Let's just focus on the party," Sana said, trying to shake off her irritation. "This is about Siya and spending time with friends."

Julia raised an eyebrow but didn't press the issue. "Fine, fine. But if Vyas tries anything, I'll be right there with you, okay?"

Sana smiled. "Thanks, Julia."

As the Uber sped toward Siya's house, Sana could only hope that the night would go smoothly. But deep down, she couldn't help but feel that the presence of someone like Sidharth Vyas-if he did show up-wouldmake things far more complicated than she was prepared for.

As the Uber pulled up in front of the grand estate, Sana and Julia stared in disbelief. It wasn't just a house-it was a mansion, a sprawling two-story architectural marvel with vintage windows, a beautiful arched doorway, and a grand entrance that looked like it belonged in a European palace. The driveway was long, lined with perfectly manicured trees, leading to an ornate gate. Lights flickered on the outer walls, casting an elegant glow that made the whole place look even more ethereal. A sprawling garden surrounded the house, complete with a pristine pool and fountains.

"Wow...," Julia whispered, wide-eyed as she gazed at the mansion. "This is insane. Are we sure we're still in India?"

Sana shook her head, still taking in the sight. "I'm starting to wonder too. This feels like some palace in Europe. Is this really where Siya lives?"

Julia laughed in disbelief. "This is next-level. It's like one of those mansions you see in movies... You know, the ones with secret passageways and hidden treasures."

Sana grinned but her nerves began to set in. "I thought it was just a normal business party, but now... it feels like we've walked into a billionaire's gala."

"Yeah," Julia agreed.

They approached the entrance and walked inside, their jaws dropping again as they stepped into the main hall. The interior was just as luxurious, if not more. The black and gray décor gave the space a modern yet timeless feel, every piece of furniture carefully curated. A massive crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling, twinkling over the elegantly dressed guests. There was a bar set up in one corner, with rows of champagne glasses stacked in a perfect tower. Men in sleek black suits sipped on expensive drinks, while women in designer gowns floated around the room, laughing and chatting.

"Okay, now I really feel underdressed," Julia muttered, looking down at her wine-colored dress.

Sana glanced at herself in the mirror-like surface of a nearby wall, feeling the same. "I know, right? Everyone looks like they walked straight off a magazine cover."

They scanned the room, hoping to spot a familiar face. Unfortunately, there was no sign of Siya, Ram, or Sidharth Kapoor anywhere in sight. Julia pulled out her phone, shooting Siya a quick message to inform her that they had arrived. Within a few minutes, they heard the sound of hurried footsteps behind them.

In a matter of minutes, Siya appeared, rushing toward them. She looked stunning in a black gown with long, flowing sleeves, her hair cascading down the her shoulders in perfect waves. Her makeup was dramatic and bold, giving her the appearance of a princess straight out of a fairy tale.

"Oh my god, you guys made it!" Siya squealed, pulling them both into a hug. "You look amazing!"

"You're one to talk," Sana said, gesturing to her gown. "You look like royalty."

"Stop it," Siya blushed. "I'm so glad you came. I know the whole business-party vibe is weird, but I promise it'll be fun. Come on, I'll take you to the others. Ram, Sidharth, and some of my cousins and friends are waiting."

Siya led them through the crowd to a more secluded part of the house, where a group of younger people were gathered. As they approached, Sana recognized some familiar faces. Ram and Siya's boyfriend, Sidharth Kapoor, were standing with a few others, talking and laughing.

Ram, dressed in a black three-piece suit, spotted them first and waved. He looked sharp and sophisticated, but his warm smile made him seem approachable. Sidharth Kapoor, in a matching black suit, stood beside him, equally as polished.

"Hey, you two!" Ram greeted them, stepping forward. "Glad you could make it."

Sidharth offered a polite smile and a nod. "You're looking great," he said, his tone formal but friendly.

"Thanks," Sana and Julia replied in unison, a bit taken aback by how formal everything felt.

Siya turned to the others, gesturing for them to step forward. "Okay, so let me introduce you. This is my younger brother, Zorawar,"

"Zoro, please," Zorawar interrupted with a grin. He looked much younger, probably still in school, with his charming boyish face. Clad in a black suit, he exuded the same charm as his father but with a playful edge.

"He's the drama king of our house." Siya shook her head.

"Nice to meet you!" Zoro said, striking a playful pose. "Don't worry, I only bite if you ask nicely."

Sana chuckled, immediately liking his playful attitude. Siya continued with the introductions.

"This in Mohin and Mohini Malhotra-my cousins," Siya said, gesturing to the two siblings standing nearby.

Mohin, the older of the two, looked suave in his suit and gave a friendly nod, while Mohini dressed in a stylish black dress, had a mischievous glint in her eyes waved with a bright smile.

Siya continues, "They're my Aunt Tina and Uncle Mohit's kids. They are my parents best friends but they're more like family to us. Mohin is two years younger than me, and Mohini is a friend of Zoro."

"Yes," Zorawar said, pulling Mohini's chubby cheeks.

"Zoro," Mohini slapped his shoulder in irritation.

"Moh," Zorawar cooed her.

"Guy!" Siya scolded them.

"Sorry,"

Everyone smiled at their bunter.

"And these are Abhya and Abhimanyu Singh. They're family friends. Their dad, Abhay Singh is my father's old business partner." Siya concluded, pointing to a girl and boy who smiled politely at them.

After the introductions, they all quickly got comfortable. Sana and Julia found themselves chatting easily with everyone. Juice and cold drinks were passed around, and for a while, the atmosphere was light and fun.

Soon after, Siya clapped her hands to get everyone's attention. "Okay, everyone, time for some dancing! We'll dance first, then have dinner, and afterward, I'll introduce you to my parents. I know they'd love to meet you both."

Everyone cheered in agreement, and Zorawar rushed to put on some music. The atmosphere shifted as everyone began dancing to upbeat, energetic tunes. The room was filled with laughter and movement, and even Sana and Julia found themselves enjoying it.

However, as the music changed to a slower, romantic number, the group began pairing up. Sana laughed as she watched everyone pairing up. Ram and Julia started dancing together, Siya and Sidharth shared a slow dance, while Zorawar twirled Mohini around playfully. The room was filled with laughter and chatter, but Sana suddenly felt a pang of loneliness as she realized she had no partner.

Ram, noticing Sana standing alone, called out, "Don't worry, Sana! After this, I'll give you a dance, promise."

Sana smiled warmly, grateful for his kindness. "I'll hold you to that, Ram," she replied, feeling her spirits lift a little.

Still, she excused herself from the dance floor, heading over to the drinks area. She was in a good mood, watching her friends have fun, when something-or rather, someone-caught her eyes.

Her smile faltered as she spotted Sidharth Vyas walking in.

Clad in an all-black three-piece suit that made him look effortlessly dashing, Sidharth looked as though he had stepped out of a fashion editorial. His hair was perfectly styled, and his sharp jawline only added to his dark, brooding demeanor. But his expression was far from pleasant. He looked irritated, as if he'd been dragged there against his will, and he clutched a glass of champagne in his hand like it was the only thing keeping him from storming out.

Sana felt her stomach twist. Of all the people, why him?

She could feel his gaze sweeping across the room, and when his eyes locked onto hers, a jolt of tension surged through her. They stared at each other for what felt like an eternity, and for a brief moment, she caught something in his gaze-admiration, maybe? But it was quickly replaced by his familiar coldness. His jaw clenched, and she knew he hadn't forgotten their last encounter. The slaps, the humiliation. It was all still fresh for him.

With a smirk that didn't quite reach his eyes, Sidharth began to move toward her. Sana's instinct was to turn around and walk away, but before she could, he was already in front of her, blocking her path.

"Hey, Baby girl," he greeted her with mockery dripping from every word.

Sana stiffened, irritated at the sight of him. "I don't want any drama, Sidharth."

"Drama? Me?" He raised an eyebrow. "I think you're confusing me with yourself. I don't make a spectacle of myself in public... like some people did in college." His voice was cold, his eyes burning into hers.

Her fists clenched. "You deserved everything I did," she spat back. "You ruined my-"

"I ruined your what?" he interrupted, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "Your Scooty? Please, Sana. It's just a bike, an old one at that. It could've been fixed. I even offered to pay for it, but no, you had to go all crazy."

"Shut up, Sidharth," she snapped, her voice shaking with anger. "You'll never understand."

"Oh, I think I do," he said, stepping closer. His face was inches from hers now. "Someone like you... just loves creating drama."

Sana's breath hitched at his words. He didn't know. He didn't understand the significance of the bike. It wasn't just a Scooty to her-it was a connection to her late grandpa, someone she loved dearly.

"Forget it," she snapped, turning to leave. "You will never understand the value behind something."

Before she could take a step, his hand shot out and grabbed her wrist, pulling her back roughly. "Then explain?"

"Someone like you doesn't deserve it." She snapped.

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" he growled. "Someone like me? What does that mean?"

Sana yanked her hand away, her eyes blazing. "It means you're a jerk, Sidharth Vyas. Now leave me alone."

With that, she stormed off, leaving Sidharth standing there, his chest heaving with barely controlled rage.

"Fuck," he muttered under his breath, downing the rest of his champagne in one swift gulp, his eyes still locked on her retreating figure.

The battle between them was far from over.
