HR 47: ONLY CHANCE
Ragini stopped her steps when she heard Sanskar speaking to someone. She neared the door of the guest room.
“You don't understand this is my only chance” she peeped inside the door hearing the voice and found Sanskar talking over the phone. He wasn't at ease. It was clear that something was bothering him. She stopped herself from rushing to him interrupting the conversation because right now the most important thing for her was the information. Her husband was too stubborn to let off his guards and tell her everything. She had only this way to know what was bothering him.
“It's final. I won't be discussing anything with you anymore” he disconnected the call and Ragini moved a bit alerted. Sanskar sensed someone's presence near the door and walked towards it. As he opened the door he found none.
Ragini left a breath of sigh as she saw Sanskar walking back to the room hiding behind the wall which was at the edge of the hallway. She replayed his words.
“Only chance?” she looked thoughtful. “Only chance for what?” she stirred her mind to get an answer.
“Is that anywhere related to Kavitha's murder?” she thought. But there was no way to find out. Sanskar will never tell her to whom was he speaking and what was he speaking. She thought of a better way and walked towards the dining hall determined.
Annapurna was serving her husband and Sujatha also was doing the same. She scanned the chairs. Laksh wasn't there. He wasn't the early morning person. Then why isn't he here on the dining table like everyone else.
She found Swara and Parinita talking to each other regarding some TV series which never interested her. She walked further and sat on the chair. Nobody seemed to consider her. Though everyone stopped at her arrival they continued to do their work like she did not existed.
She knew she is gonna get all these cold treatments. Sujatha looked at her daughter in law and tried cheering her. Ragini's muscles relaxed as she realized that at least her mother in law is with her passively though. Ragini served herself and munched on the food.
As she came out of the kitchen placing the plate for washing she saw Sanskar walking out of the Mansion looking around. As though he did not wanted anyone to see him. Ragini hastily walked behind him but making sure that she was at a safer distance so that he doesn't notice her.
Sanskar stopped near his car in the garage and looked around to be sure. Ragini hid herself behind the other car and waited for Sanskar to ignite the car and drove off. She quickly rushed out of the mansion gate and waved at the rickshaw. The vehicle stopped and she got inside it instructing the driver to follow Sanskar's car.
It took three signals and two turns when Sanskar's car finally stopped. She got off the rickshaw when she was sure Sanskar walked inside the building. She paid the fare and followed Sanskar.
Once she was inside the big building she felt herself lost as there were so many people walking around and two lifts and a one escalator. She saw Sanskar turning his back in the lift which was transparent. She quickly walked towards the escalator. Making a quick move she landed on it. When she saw Sanskar turning towards her side in the lift she quickly turned her head so that he doesn't notice her. She got off the escalator and waited to check if Sanskar is still in the lift. When she saw him going towards the door she guessed the floor she was standing was the destination of her husband.
She carefully followed him till he reached a door. As he entered it she moved to get the clear picture of the place. She saw the board which read Khurana Industries. She peeped inside the glass door and found Sanskar entering a cabin. She slowly opened the door and walked inside the company where all looked busy with each other.
“Excuse me” she was stopped by a feminine voice. She closed her eyes cursing her fate and turned to the person who interrupted her. “May I help you ma'am? Can you please tell me with whom you are having a meet?” the girl in pencil skirt asked her with a formal smile. Ragini returned her a tight lipped smile.
“Actually. I....” she mentally kicked her mind so that she gets any idea to tackle this. “I'm here to meet Mr. Khurana” she left a breath if relax. The girl looked at Ragini suspiciously. The elegant attire of Ragini did not even let her doubt her intentions but there was a missing information. “Mr. Khurana?” asked the girl. “Yeah” Ragini tried to keep the tone normal. “But” the girl looked thoughtful. “Which one?” asked the girl. Ragini looked at her confused. “What does she mean by which Khurana? How many are there actually?” Ragini thought.
“She meant Ms.Khurana. Haina Biwi” Ragini heard Sanskar's voice and her heart dropped suddenly to her stomach.
When Sanskar stood beside her after the moment snaking his hand around her shoulder a chill shiver ran down her spine. She turned to look at him horrified.
“Oh. Okay sir” the girl gave a smile to Sanskar and walked from there. Sanskar who was smiling turned to Ragini and his expressions changed but he covered them behind his smile.
“Shall we move Biwi?” he asked her with a cold tone but with still the sweetest smile. She had no escape now. She gulped the lump and looked at him. Before she could respond he dragged her along with him. She turned to get the glimpse of the person Sanskar came to meet but the cabin was semi transparent. The person inside the cabin watched them banging her hand on the glass as Ragini moved with Sanskar disappointed.
Sanskar did not utter a word till they reached his car. He made her sit inside the car and walked towards the driving seat. Ragini jerked when he banged the car door. The sound of the bang was proportional to his frustration right now. She had no courage right now to look at his face also.
He ignited the car and drifted towards the road. Ragini did not utter a word waiting for him to talk. As the car stopped at the signal Sanskar hit the steering making her close her eyes and jump a bit. “Damn” he cursed.
“Have you ever... ever used your brain?” he pointed his head turning to his wife who bounced back to his sudden movement.
“How many times should I tell you don't cross my path. Can't you understand that?” he spoke to her controlling his bursting anger. “One thing I told you to do. Just stay away. Was that so difficult to follow?” he asked her. Ragini was not able to answer him.
He turned his face and hit his hand to the steering wheel again this time making it to bleed. Ragini looked at him worried. “Sanskar” she dragged his hand towards herself. He jerked his hand and pulled it back. Ragini gaped him not able to believe he was hell angry on her. She searched the car for the first aid box and dragged his hand. She cleaned the blood and applied the ointment and tied the band aid. Sanskar quickly dragged his hand back.
She sat leaning to her seat. Sanskar ignited the car when the signal went green. He stopped the car at the outskirts of the city. Sanskar slowly caressed her cheek while she was sitting with her closed eyes. Her pain shot up when she felt his touch.
“Why do you do this?” he asked her painfully looking at her. “I...” “Shh...” he signed her to be quite. “I'm still pissed off” he said and she dropped her shoulders. She leaned to his stiff body and placed her head over his shoulder. Sanskar's body relaxed and he leaned his back completely to the seat. He looked at his wife who was smiling closing her eyes.
“Why is that I can't be mad at you?” he thought in his mind. “But I have to make sure you stay out of this Ragini. I can't lose you. I can't lose you like I lost Kavitha” he turned to the road and continued to drive.
Suddenly his vision was blur. He held his paining head. “Ahhhh” he screamed when the pain was intolerable. Ragini got up hearing him scream.
“Sanskar” she shook him while he closed his eyes and opened them again feeling the shooting pain at the side of his head. “What happened to you?” she asked him worried. He finally gained some strength and stopped the car near a tree.
He got off the car as he started feeling suffocated suddenly. “Sanskar” Ragini reached him and held his shoulders.
“What is happening to you?” she asked worried but he was not in a state to answer her. The pain made him helpless.
“Sanskar..” she shook him. She looked around in that deserted road to find help. But the cars just passed them not stopping. Ragini made Sanskar sit near the car and reached the road to get a lift.
She took her phone and searched her phone and clicked on Rudr's number to call him for help. “Hello...” she spoke when Rudr answered the call. “Hello... Ragini...I'm not able to hear you” Rudr spoke as he did not hear any voice.
“Hello.. Rudr...Hello. Listen. Sanskar...” she spoke but her voice did not reach the other end due to the signal problem. “He...” her word remained incomplete as she felt a sharp pain in the back side of her head.
“Ragini....” Sanskar screamed and that was the last sound which reached her brain and everything around her turned dark and her limbs became weak. She fell on her knees first and then her body touched the ground. She left a breath blowing some sand near her lips and the blood drops traveled from the back of her head to her forehead then reaching the ground. She looked towards Sanskar who was crawling towards her and her vision started to blur.
