Chapter 3) Leaving Home
Sadie stood in the middle of her room, holding a tightly rolled-up outfit in one hand and a newly-sharpened knife in the other. Her eyes scanned over the room, wondering if she could perhaps sneak something with her in the pockets of her jacket. The female wondered vaguely why the faceless entity had ordered for her to bring only what she had in her hands at the moment, her thoughts wandering around before her eyes landed on the neon-green numbers flashing on the alarm clock next to her bed.
6:54. She needed to be at Slender's office in six minutes.
Checking her possessions one last time, she made sure nothing else was plugged up or anything ...wouldn't want to cause a fire, now, would we?, and then made her way out the door, sending one last glance into her room before she closed the door with a soft sigh. Walking down the halls, her sharp eyes flew about, watching everyone around her carefully.
Slender had attempted to stagger the leaving times so that everyone wouldn't be leaving at once, but he didn't account for all of the friend groups in this household who would be going away at the same time...In the halls was a very diverse scene of emotions.
There was Brian in the corner, hugging Masky with all his might, a stream of tears flowing down his face, which were visible only because he had his mask around his neck instead of wearing it. Masky, on the other hand, was patting his friend's back, his mask hiding his emotions...although Sadie could have sworn she heard some sniffles coming from underneath.
Both of the male's partners were standing awkwardly a couple of feet away from the tearful goodbye. Jeff had his arms folded across his chest, his knife glinting in the light of the halls, a small scowl painted on his face, probably wanting to go ahead and leave already. Amber was just leaning against the wall, trying to hide how freaking tired she was, the messy hair and bags under her eyes evidence enough that she didn't sleep that night.
Her feet once again moving soundlessly over the hardwood floor, the brunette continued on past this one emotional scene of many, ignoring the huffs and words coming from the others around her as she finally arrived at the door of Slenderman's office. Sadie leaned against the doorway boredly, knowing instinctively that there was only perhaps two minutes or so until the clock struck seven o'clock.
The door to the office opened, and none other than Toby peered his fluffy li'l head out, his hair flying all over the place and his eyes squinting slightly underneath his goggles from the bright light the hallway introduced "S-Sadie?" He asked, stifling a small yawn as he grabbed the girl's wrist and dragged her inside the room, shutting the door after her.
Ignoring the twitching boy, Sadie yanked her wrist from his grip, careful not to drop the knife in her hand as she did so, hissing slightly when one scar under her bandages was pulled to the brink of ripping open again from the movement. Rubbing the sore wound absentmindedly, she turned her head and looked around the room. She had only been here one other time, when Slender first brought her into the residence. It was pretty much the exact same as if was last time ...dark ...so neat and orderly, it was concerning ...and, most of all, the pale monster sitting in his swivel chair at his desk. When he saw her enter, he lifted his head up slightly "Ah, Sadie" he said softly, standing up "You're here. Good. Now we can begin." With a sigh, he got up from his chair, tilting his head at the pair as he surveyed them up.
Leaning his pale head to the side as he took one more step closer to the partners, he began to speak
"Sadie, Tobias, you have been chosen to search the Appalachians for the hideout of Zalgo. Now, I will teleport you to the beginning of the Southern end of the mountain range, and from there, you will both head North, taking your time in carefully scanning the area for any clues towards the location." the entity paused for a moment, reaching behind his desk and grabbing a seemingly lightweight black backpack and handing it over to Toby
"This backpack has been enchanted by me, and the spell on it allows the bag to contain many items without seeming to be or feel full. For instance, this contains a tent for the two of you, thousands of dollars for whatever purposes you need, whether it's food or to keep someone's mouth shut-"
"I ca-an do th-that myself" Toby interrupted cockily, his head bobbing pridefully as he hooked his arms through the backpack's straps
Slender pretended as if he did not hear the male, and continued his speech "It also contains blankets, extra clothing, weapons, and more." He sighed softly "And that is all I can say for the two of you. I cannot describe what you are about to go through now. There may be pain in your future, or this journey might just be boring and uneventful, but still...I-....I wish the best of luck to both of you."
Sadie blinked and nodded slowly, showing that she heard and understood what the entity said. Pain? Oh, she's already felt the worst pain anyone could ever feel....what could possibly be so bad up ahead that could compare to what she's already felt?
The twitching brunette looked over at Sadie, the female he would be with, whether he liked it or not, for the next year or so. He sighed and gently hooked an arm around her, letting out a soft and annoyed huff when she inhaled sharply and tried to jerk herself away from him
"S-Stoppit. Sl-lender nee-eds to te-teleport us together, s-so we ha-ave to b-be touching." he said simply, biting the inside of his mouth nervously as he looked up at his boss.
The slender man let out another sigh, this one sounding a little bit more sad as he placed a hand on Toby's head, ruffling up the kid's hair fondly "Be safe, my children." he whispered.
And then there was total darkness.
