Chapter 53
╰┈➤ ❝ [you alone is haven]
Third Person POV
"Lunatic fucker."
Kakucho continued digging up Hanma's head on the floor. He then grabbed his collar as he landed a punch on his face agitatedly, blood already starting to ooze out of Hanma's nose and sliced lips.
Hanma opened his eyes and seized Kakucho's arms, throwing him to the ground and punching him in the face.
Kakucho spits blood, but he also kicked Hanma in the stomach, prompting Hanma to grip Kakucho's shoulder. Kakucho was losing momentum when he grabbed Hanma's neck, and the two men gripped each other's shoulders in the hopes of taking each other down.
"You won't fucking stop, huh?" Kakucho told, and he lifted Hanma as he smashed his head on the wall.
Crack
Hanma groaned loudly in pain as he feel his neck and shoulder crack.
Kakucho backed away a bit to gather stamina, but his eyes widened as Hanma tries to stand up on the floor, but his body feels paralyzed, barely moving as he inclined his neck to crack it.
"A head..." Hanma menacingly glared, "A decapitated head is what you will see when I finally grasp each of you."
Each of the men's eyes widened in disgust and vile, though they weren't surprised, these things are common for them to hear in such organizations.
Hanma rose gradually off the floor, turning his injured neck. Kakucho was about to attack him when an arm reached out and grasped his shoulder, revealing Chifuyu. The man then punched Kakucho's face as he shoved him out of the way.
"Isn't it the former Toman member, tch." Kakucho grunted as he provoked Chifuyu.
Chifuyu only clicked his tongue and ran up to Kakucho, but the man was barely fazed as he kicked Chifuyu straight on the stomach, making him land on the floor until Haru came in front of him.
"Haru?" Ran stopped for a moment to look at the familiar employee of their office, an employee working under him, Haru.
"It's surprising, we've never interacted with you," Ran tilted his head as he drops his baton, "Though I'm not surprised about you being a vile renegade, and this might be our first and last meet."
"But you see, I'm very disappointed." Ran's tone dropped.
"Just how much contempt do I have to show? Damn." Haru sighed as he clenched his jaw.
"None," Rindou blurted out, "Just how far do we have to go for you to understand you're digging up your own grave?"
Haru remained still as he clenched his jaw in irritation and reflected on himself.
"So, Haru," Ran spoke, "Show us how devoted are you to this so-called friend 'mask' of yours."
Haru's eyes widened as he felt his stomach churn in disgust.
"Show it by taking the three of us down." Ran told, as he, Rindou, and Kakucho came up to Haru.
Haru's eyes twitched in irritation, and he took his pocket knife out from his pockets before fixing his stance.
"Remember, Ran. I'll fucking kill you first!"
Ran only chuckled at his braveness.
Then, Haru sprints to him with such speed to aim the knife at him but Ran dodged it and grabbed the knife, making Haru stumble, then Ran grabbed his collar.
"I'd like to see you try, go on." Ran told as he punched Haru's jaw.
"To show how committed you are to mask." Rindou then came up to Haru and punched him next.
Mitsuya and Chifuyu stepped back as they saw Haru being viciously beaten by the two brothers.
Then they were surprised as a brick fell in the gaps, causing a big cloud of smoke and obstructing their view of Haru. The two panicked as they looked around their surroundings.
"Cowards," Ran whistled behind the two, "Can't even help their friend. Don't worry, we didn't even go hard at him. We spared him."
Mitsuya and Chifuyu looked behind them to see the Haitani brothers, preparing to attack them just like how they did to Haru.
"Come and fight us." Rindou threatened as he fixed his stance.
Chifuyu was the first to attack Rindou, going straight to his face, but Rindou dodged it as he grabbed Chifuyu's nape and joints.
"You want to be like your boss?" Rindou told, and all of them knew he was talking about Hanma's broken neck.
"Don't you fucking dare." Chifuyu grumbled as he spun around to strike Rindou in the face and grasp his collar, then shoved him to the ground and continued punching him.
"Rindou!" Ran shouted as he runs toward his fallen brother on the floor, but it was too late as Mitsuya caught Ran to punch him.
"Damn it." Ran snarled as he shoved Mitsuya and hit his face, but Mitsuya stabilized himself as he lifted his left leg and kicked Ran in the chest.
Ran was on the verge of collapsing, but he grabbed his baton from the floor before Mitsuya could hit him. Mitsuya dashed up to him, aiming to elbow Ran to the ground, but Ran swiftly got up and smacked Mitsuya across the face with his baton.
"Argh!" Mitsuya grips his forehead as he wiped the blood dripping from his head.
Ran took the opportunity to completely take down Mitsuya, but his eyes widened when Chifuyu came in front of him.
"Chifuyu!" Mitsuya exclaimed, his eyes widening as he saw Chifuyu collapsing to the floor as a result of Ran's strong heavy strike.
Ran only looked down at the unconscious limp body of Chifuyu laying lifelessly on the floor, with pools of blood surrounding his head.
"Motherfucker!" Mitsuya stood up from the floor as he runs to Chifuyu, and he placed his ear on Chifuyu's heart to check his heartbeat. It was faltering and slowing down.
"Hanma!" Mitsuya called his boss who was still crouching due to his broken neck, "Chifuyu is down! Let's get the hell out of here!"
"Hell do you think I give a shit about him?" Hanma snarled, and Mitsuya's eyes widened as the words rang in his ears.
"The fuck did you just say Hanma...?!"
Mitsuya walked up to Hanma as he grabbed his collar, and pushed him onto the wall with seared enraged eyes. He can feel his chest burning with rage and betrayal.
"So, I was right," Mitsuya forced a laugh, and tears are brimming in his eyes, "You only used us."
Hanma only shoved Mitsuya out of the way, "I don't have time for this, take Bonten down. That's all I'm here for, be lucky Manjiro isn't here."
Mitsuya's hands balled up in a fist as he only glared at Hanma who was walking away as if nothing just happened, and he hates how he can't do anything about his dying friend.
"Chi...Chifuyu..." Mitsuya's breathing becomes unsteady as he tries to wake him up.
"I don't want you to be lured by Hanma's mind games again, Mitsuya." Chifuyu weakly mumbled as his eyes slightly opens.
Mitsuya grits his teeth as a tear spills from his eyes. "No, you're not fucking dying, Chifuyu. Stay awake, I'll get you out of here."
"The time's running out," Chifuyu told as he coughed, "Ran's punch isn't also the only reason why I'm running out of time."
"It's also the drugs I was diagnosed with a while ago. I-I only had to tell it now."
"It was nice working with you, even if we're working under a felonious organization, even if we're working under a horrid, vile person."
"Get Haru out of here, and just... stay safe." Chifuyu told, and he lifted his arms to fist bump Mitsuya, making him tear up.
And there, that was the first and last fist bump that Chifuyu and Mitsuya did.
"Let go, I want to fight." Sanzu groaned as he tries to pry Koko's hands away. Sanzu is badly injured, and he can barely move a joint without feeling pain and discomfort.
"You're fucking insane?" Koko scolded. "Stay here until Mikey comes back, let the others fight those."
Koko is in the business and management sector as usual, where he manages the financial flow and keeps an eye on the source of income in every corporation they associate with. He's basically the mastermind behind the nonphysical disputes. That's why, when there are conflicts going on, he usually remains out of it and instead connects and supervises their lines through their base.
"I've contacted meds," Koko told. "Go in the car, you'll be home."
"No. I'm not going home," Sanzu grunted as he tries to remove Koko's arm, "You're telling me the Haitani brothers and Kakucho will be the only ones left here?!"
"Stop being so damn stubborn, what the hell will you benefit in here? You're injured and can barely even walk!" Koko grabs Sanzu's collar.
Sanzu only sighed and gave up. "Fine."
"And don't worry about the two Haitani and Kakucho being alone. I've got extra back-ups," Koko said, slipping his phone back into his pockets.
Then, Hanma who was still in the building while aiding his broken shoulder and neck looked outside. His brows furrowed as he grins and eventually walked off the scene, leaving everyone inside fighting and dying.
"Mikey, you're not fucking going anywhere. Mark my words."
"(Y/N)!"
Mikey quickly gets off his motor after arriving at the location, he tossed his helmet off and started sprinting to the dark forest.
"(Y/N)!" Mikey continued shouting through the gloomy place as he took the walkie-talkie out. He hurriedly pressed the buttons to reach the other line.
"(Y/N)?! Are you still there?!"
No answer.
Mikey feels his heart beating in anticipation and his mind going out of place.
He continued running through the muddy dirt of the forest. The rain is soaking him, but he couldn't care less. A glimpse of you is what he only desires through the hazy and blurry vision from the rain.
"(Y/N)!" He continued shouting as he desperately tries to search.
"I'm following the aligned stars in the sky, (Y/N). I believe it'll lead me the way to you."
As soon as he remembers it, his eyes met with the sky and searched for the aligned stars.
"I believe it is."
He continues to follow the aligned star to where his notion will also lead him. He followed the stars like it was his own map.
He continues to believe in horoscopes, it really did guide him. He knew it as soon as he finally saw you on the ground.
"(Y/N)!"
He didn't waste any time running toward you, and he knelt on the ground as he lifted your half-conscious body. He turned your body to face him as he laid you on his hands, and his heart swells in pain from the sight.
Your eyes are barely opening, bruise all over your body, blood dripping from the cuts, lips chapped, and more drastic incident. What caught his attention the most is the wooden twig stabbed in your stomach.
"I-I won't take it out, you'll lose more blood." He told as he ripped a piece of his clothing to wrap it on your wounds.
You only coughed and nodded, trying your best to stay conscious.
You can only hear muffles, but you know it's Mikey's voice, so you felt safe, "His presence is enough..."
"We'll get out of here as soon as possible, okay?" Mikey reassured you as he's desperately trying his best to hold his tears back. Your sight alone struggling, and on the verge of dying makes his heart swells in sorrow, he can't bear to look at you, "Just please... stay awake."
Mikey continued to heal your wounds, but there's no sufficient aiding. He tried to look for anything that can be used as plaster and bandages.
He started to lift you in his arms in bridal style, "We'll get out of here."
Mikey carefully walked out while holding you in his arms, until a voice was heard behind them.
"Mikey! You thought you can escape?!"
His eyes widened at the familiar voice, and he looked back to see a tall figure standing in the distance.
"Hanma."
Hanma's gaze fell at your unconscious body in Mikey's arms, and he grinned as he cocked his head to the side and then cracked his knuckles.
Mikey is vulnerable to attack.
"See? I'm right. (Y/N) only brings a vulnerability to Bonten... to you." Hanma laughed sarcastically.
You can hear Hanma's voice even if you're barely conscious, and your heart tightens. You felt that his words were true, you only did bring vulnerability to them, making your chest heavy as guilt ate you.
"What did you do to them...?" Mikey stepped back for a bit as his hold on you tightens securely. Hanma raised his brow, and then laughed as he knew what Mikey is talking about.
"Nothing, I just did something skeptical to your underlings." Hanma shrugged, feigning innocence.
"P-put me down, Mikey," You coughed, "I can walk by myself."
Mikey looked down at you, and he shook his head.
"It's okay," you reassured.
He raised his head to Hanma, who was cracking his knuckles and stretching. He knew Hanma's moves very well.
Your eyes just widened before Mikey starts running off while carrying you, and you raised your head as you looked at your surroundings, perplexed.
"I just need to bring you to a safe place." Mikey puts you down as your feet meet the ground, and you almost lost your balance, but you stabilized. You clutched your stomach and gasped, your breathing becoming ragged.
"Run away, now," Mikey faced you, "You can't fight at this moment, you're injured."
Mikey sensed your fear and doubt, but he only held your head with both hands as he told you reassuring words, just like what he said on the walkie-talkie a while ago.
"I promise you, we'll meet later." He smiles reassuringly.
You merely gave a hesitant nod before turning around and running away. While rushing away, you peeked behind to see Mikey waving.
"Stay safe, (Y/N)."
Then, Mikey heard footsteps nearing him, and he turned to his side to see Hanma running up to him.
"If this will fucking shut you up," Mikey braced his stance as he tilted his head, "Then I'll go for it. Fight me, Hanma."
"I'm wasting no shit!" Hanma ran up to him as he lands a punch on Mikey, but he merely dodged it and grabbed Hanma's wrist.
Hanma can feel his broken neck and shoulder aching excruciatingly, but he ignored it and the only thing that's lingering on his mind is to kill Mikey.
Mikey grabs the opportunity to hold his neck and kicked it.
"ARGH!" Hanma grunted as he fell to the floor, limply grasping his neck.
Mikey steps on his stomach as he kicked his face repeatedly.
Hanma is barely conscious on the floor and the rain is both drenching them, even so, the loud thunders are muffling the sounds of their kicks and punches.
The man on the floor became agitated, causing him to clutch Mikey's leg, which is kicking him. He utilized this as leverage to rise from the ground and punch Mikey in the face.
Mikey stumbled back for a bit as he wiped the blood on his lips.
Then, Hanma secretly took a wooden plank out.
"So, Mikey," Hanma said as he walks closer to him, "tell me, why did you kill Kisaki back then? Why'd you draft Mitsuya and Chifuyu in my association?"
"I fucking killed no one." Mikey grunted.
"You forgot?" Hanma forced a laugh, "You forgot like how (Y/N) forgot all of you, might as well lose your memories too—"
Hanma's words were cut off when Mikey lost it. He punched Hanma in the face from his sentence as he went on top of him and continued punching his face with no mercy.
"To answer your question, I didn't fucking draft Mitsuya and Chifuyu," Mikey landed another strong punch, "You deceived them, you fucking bastard. The things I hate the most are bribery and bandwagons, you described all of them. Rather, you... you even abducted Haru. Tell me who lost their sanity at this moment?!"
"You have a problem?" Mikey groaned as he landed another punch, with blood splattering everywhere, "Then hurl it at me."
"You" Punch "Don't" Punch "Include" Punch "Anyone on your shits." Punch
Pools of blood are sipping out of Hanma's nose, and can barely open his eyes from the black eye and large bruises. He grunted and wince as his whole body is aching.
And there, Hanma's arm extended while Mikey was on top of him, punching his face, unaware that Hanma was secretly reaching for a wooden plank on the ground.
"Physical fights are old-fashioned," Hanma whispered, "I didn't say weapons aren't allowed, though."
In just a second, Hanma hits Mikey with a wooden plank on the face and head.
Mikey's back crashed on the muddy forest ground, and Hanma slammed the plank on Mikey's stomach, causing Mikey to cough and wince on the grass.
Hanma disposed the dull wooden plank as he threw it on the ground.
Instead, Hanma grabs a sharper and a large wooden plank from an oak, "I believe that this will straightly kill you."
"I don't care if you kill Mitsuya, Chifuyu, or Haru just because you think they're bribed by me, former leader of Toman." Hanma clicked his tongue as he points the edge of the plank at Mikey's neck.
"But one thing I wish for you is death, Manjiro."
Mikey closed his eyes from the impact he was expecting.
But he felt nothing. Instead, a body weighed on his chest.
"You're safe." A voice whispered.
His eyes slowly open, almost shrieking from the dreadful sight, "(Y/N)..."
Just a while ago, you didn't completely run away.
You were hiding behind the trees the entire time while Mikey and Hanma were fighting, and you despised how you couldn't do anything except watch everything crumble into pieces, unable to protect or do anything, just like before.
Just like Mikey, the guilt was starting to eat you.
You ran to him without hesitation as soon as Hanma hurled the wooden plank at him, and you immediately shielded Mikey on the ground as you hugged him.
"(Y/N)..."
Mikey felt his whole body stop, still shocked from what just happened and not fully sinking into his mind. Just until he clicked back to his senses, he sees you in front of him but your head is laying on his shoulder. His breath became unsteady, unready for what will he see.
"H-hey... (Y/N)..." Mikey's breathing hitched as his eyes slowly widened, and he removed his hand from the back of your head to check his palm.
Blood was dripping on his hands.
His hand shakingly lifted your head to face him, and his heart sunk as he saw your lifeless face, blood seeping out of your mouth as your eyes were watery and slowly closing.
Hanma is stunned, his breath leaving his lungs for his wrong target and doings. He slowly lets go of the wooden plank as he shifted his feet away.
Mikey was too caught up that he didn't notice Hanma running off.
"(Y/N)!" Mikey shouted with a sob as he held your barely conscious body, and you can hear his cracked pained voice ringing and echo in your ears.
Mikey can see your hands slowly reaching for him, but they fell to the ground. It shows how you're desperately trying to still be alive, still breathing, your presence is still with him.
He quickly stood up from the ground to carry you, and he runs out of the forest, miserably trying to find the right direction.
"(Y/N), p-please... stay awake!" He begged and pleaded as tears were brimming in his eyes, "Oh God... I can't- I can't do this... (Y/N) please..."
The both of you are already worn out, exhausted, with physical pain all over the body, dirty, and soaked from the rain pouring in the forest. He planned on taking you to the hospital hastily, but the directions in the forest holds him back. Your health is deteriorating, but you were trying to stay conscious.
"D-don't worry, I'll stay alive. I'll keep my promise." You weakly whisper while laying your head on his chest, trying to open your eyes.
Mikey kept rushing into the trees with you in his arms. His grip on your body is just becoming tighter, as if he lets go, you'll be shattered into pieces like a fragile glass.
If a while ago, you two are solely communicating through a walkie-talkie. Right now, he can clearly hear your voice. The way your voice cracks, sobs, and genuine words laced with thorns, it's all clear ringing in his ears.
"Just keep finding the path, Mikey. I'll stay awake."
But if this would be the cost of you seeing him, speaking to him face to face rather through a mere device, he would rather want the opposite, where you're healthy and alive.
"Thank you, Mikey. I-I don't know, I'm trying my best to stay alive. I swear I do," You muttered, with a single tear spilling from your eye, and all of your tears are gone, "I'm scared to die, Mikey."
Mikey looks at you for the final time at this moment, and your eyes, contrast into a chasm locked with his teared-filled eyes.
"You're my one and only haven, Manjiro."
A/N: I don't like to end a story without significance and just "cliche", so rather, a sensible and good closure of this book (an ending that actually connects with the plot), so don't worry lol >:) hope not to disappoint :(, I'll really put an actual ending rather than those kinds of "alternative" endings
