So uh. I was thinking. Songs. Singing. Music. And that got me thinking. "I like songs that tell a story." And then I realized that some of the ONLY songs I know that tell a story. Aren't in English. Then I thought "Well, what IS in the lyrics of our music?" And ALL I could think of was love. We're constantly singing about love.

What happened to the Greeks and their songs of the past? Bards that told stories of famous heroes and wars were an enormous part of their entertainment, after all.

What about vocaloid? Sure sure, I know some of them are about love too. But I can think of a good chunk of them that aren't about relationships. They might be silly, they might be absolutely ridiculous, but they're funny and amusing to listen to.

The only songs I can truly think of in our culture that don't mention relationships are songs played for children. (Or some Christian music woohoo)

And. Alright. I don't have anything against songs of romance and such. But is singing about your last breakup or your undying (unlikely) love for the person you've just met REALLY that fun?

It takes a certain level of creativity to write songs like that, having to rhyme. But I think a harder hurdle would be telling a creative story through clever phrases and fun words.

Maybe I'm just being a stick in the mud because I spend a lot of my time writing stories on my own (limited) free time, while people are out there telling the same story over and over while still getting paid. (Sorry modern pop, I'm tired of it ahaha) Don't worry, I sound salty because I am. (Just kidding I have respect for the time they put in)
