He's reading again. There, you see him, under the tree with his nose behind a book. You stared from behind your own dusty old book as you were too scared to approach him. You weren't really a popular kid or even an average kid, you had a target behind your back for bullies. Then, the Marauders came walking by, mischief dawning their faces. "Elaine, you're staring at Black again." You looked to your friend, Elaine; a shy raven haired Hufflepuff who was also an outcast, her face blushing as her eyes trailed with Sirius. "No, I'm not!" You snickered and shook your head. "Liar, liar, pants on fire." "A-A-And... What about you?! You're staring at Snape all this while! You like him!" If she didn't say it out loud, you wouldn't really care but she did and everyone there heard what she said. Everyone laughed, some clutching their pained sides and wiping tears. "Elaine!" She bit her lip and shrugged.

You felt a shove and saw James pushing Severus as well towards you, Snape's face blushing red but blank. You peeped behind you and saw Primula, one of the girls that would bully you. "Agh!" You hit Severus's chest, blushing madly. They held you there while James shouted, "Someone take a picture!" Everyone laughed as your eyes begin to tear. Taunts were thrown at you and him, Elaine couldn't do anything but stand and watch. "Look at the two outcasts! A perfect match!" "Make them kiss!" Severus started to weigh you over, making you you stumble backwards over a rock, twisting your ankle the wrong way. You grunted in pain and fell backwards, hitting your head on rough ground. Your vision became blurry but your hearing was clear, hearing someone shout, "Get a teacher! Hurry!" The last thing in your vision was Elaine and Severus's worried faces.

Severus panicked when he saw the back of your head bleeding. It wasn't gushing but it was still bleeding. "Get a teacher! Hurry!" was the first thing he said. Elaine rushed over to you and grazed her knees as she slid on the grass. "Y/N! Y/N!" Her own eyes filled with tears. Professor McGonagall rushed to your side and placed a towel behind your head to stop the bleeding. "Severus, get her to the hospital wing now!" He didn't hesitate to carry you and run to the infirmary. He placed you on a bed and watch as you stirred, eyes drowsy. "Severus... What happened? My head... its hurts..." "Y/N, you're going to be fine... I hope you will." The nurse came and fixed her up right away but not before ushering Severus out. Once he was out, and the doors were closed in his face, he leaned against them, gradually sliding down to the floor. Do I like her? The question played over and over in his head as he sat there. Then, he fell into his mind, thinking....

"Severus..." He stirred up and saw Elaine. "You're Y/N's friend, right?" She nodded and sat beside him and sighed. "I'm... Elaine." "Good to know." Awkward silence falla upon the both of you. "You know... She does like you." Severus was taken aback by the suddenness of Elaine's voice. "No way. I'm an outcast an-" "So is she. Look she met me because I'm an outcast as well." In the time they talked felt like time flew by very fast because it was night already. "Maybe I'll see you tomorrow. I've got to take take of Y/N." Severus got up and waved goodbye before retreating to his dorm.

The next day

You were walking through the hallways with crutches as the potion used to heal your leg needs a few days to effect. Walking beside you was Elaine who helped with your satchel. People stared as you walked, making you bow your head down. "Y/N." You looked up and softened when you saw Severus with a book under his arm and his hand in his pockets. "Severus." "Can... I stay with you guys today?" You didn't know why but this infuriated you. "Why?" Your tone almost angry. "Because we outcasts need to stay together, right?" "How dare you ca-" "Y/N, deep down, you know its true. You know we're outcasts." Elaine said, standing between you and Severus. You scowled as a tear fell down your cheek. To your family, an outcast meant a cripple, a nobody, the thing you're not. But you know its true. "You're welcomed." Severus's face lit as he walked with you and Elaine, your face blushing all the time.

Having Severus with you made you feel safe and seeing him smile for once made you smile. By the end of the day, you three were the best of friends. Severus also enjoyed being with you and his feelings grew stronger for you.

Your leg fully healed and now you're a new Chaser in the Gryffindor Quidditch team which meant you were with the Marauders. "Y/N, could you please get Sirius's towel, pretty please~?" You rolled your eyes at James and went to Sirius who was wiping his sweat. "Y/N, love, what can I do for you this fine day?" You were about to grab his towel before he put it above your head. Not now. You jumped to get it but with that height difference, you had to climb him to get it. You grabbed it and walked away, a frown on your face as you walked over to James. "Here." "Ooh, feisty." You were about to past it to him but he moved his hand, dropping the towel to the ground. "Pick it up." You bent down, hearing Sirius shout, "That's a pretty sweet āss!" and picked the towel up, shoving it in his arm, walking, almost running away from them. Your tears couldn't be held back. You could hear their guffawing from a mile away.

You bumped into someone and they held you in their hands tight. "Who the hell..." You looked up and saw Severus, holding you tight, hugging you. "You... Came." "I'll get them back for what they did." You hugged him back, tears soaking his vest. "I love you, Y/N, with all my heart." Your heartbeat went so fast, you were sure it was going to pop out of your chest. He looked at your lips and back to your eyes, dipping down slowly and his eyes fluttering shut. You kissed him back, putting your hands on his shoulders. Then, you felt him leave your lips, ghosting over them. "Wait, how do you know what James and Sirius did to me?" He blushed and ran a hand through his hair. "I've been watching you since the day we got pushed into each other." You blushed and smiled. He did care.
