My Roommate~ Hermione and Star AU

This is a sequel to the Dog Park AU.

Star sighed as the sound of her book falling on the floor echoed around the the building.

She was currently waiting for the lift to arrive so that she could move into Hermione's apartment. All she had with her was her small hand luggage, and carrying a stack of books.

Other items, mainly her knock knacks and what little clothes she had had arrived there the previous day, along with her dog.

Picking up her book, and balanced it along with a few others on her hip as she grabbed her luggage. The lift arrived with a 'ping' and she stepped into its clean greyness.

It had been cleaned recently, the smell of bleach entering her nose. Luckily she liked the smell.

Since the lift was fast, she soon got out and knocked on the door.

Many booming barks soon followed, and the door was opened by Hermione, who had a plate of crumbs in her hand.

"You're lucky that I was just passing the door, otherwise I would never have heard you knock! You knock too quietly!" She shouted as she left her plate somewhere, before returning.

As Star replied she almost dropped her books, so Hermione took them from her, as well as reachingfor the luggage. She took them to her bedroom, lugging the heavy suitcase behind her.

As Star stepped into the hallway and took off her long coat, she heard the scraping of nails along the floor. Before she knew what was happening she was knocked to the floor by an enthsiastic bundle of fur.

The Bermese Mountain dog simply couldn't contain itself, licking its owners face between excited borks. Star laughed, asking it to kindly let her up. It was difficult to breathe under a 48kg mass of fur.

Eventually she managed to lift herself up, and wrapped her arms around her dog. Then she tried to stand up, only to be knocked down. The dog had placed it's huge paws on her shoulders, to make sure she didn't try to stand up. Her hair was spread around them, pinning her down under the dog.

With a "thwump" she fell back onto the floor, unable to take the weight.  The dog, simply took this as a chance to lay across her.

Footsteps were heard coming toward her, so Star dug her head into the floor in order to look behind her. She looked straight at some grey, patterned socks. Then she looked up, meeting a pair of brown eyes, with a look of amusement in them.

"Need some help?"

Hermione only received a stare back.

She sighed and tried to push the dog off her friend, but it only whined and gave her a pleading look.

"C'mon Denaë (pronounced dennay), would you like a treat?"

The dog pricked it's ears up, but didn't move.

"C'moooon, Star can't stay on the floor all day."

Danaë just looked back at her, before laying her head across Star's chest. It sighed loudly,  clearly ignoring her.

Star just looked at her dogs face, and kissed it's nose. Hermione went to get some treats in order to tempt it away.

She returned to find Star with not only one dog on top of her, but two. Jake had some skidding from her bedroom, and had settled under her arm. His head rested alongside Danae's.

Star just gave her a look that said "I really didn't ask for this."

Hermione just sighed.

"Unbelievable. I've never met anyone who has a relationship with animals like you."

"Mmmm" Star managed to get out under the heavy weight on her.

"Jakey come on, get off her."

Jake have a reluctant whine,  and she picked him up.

After placing Jake in the kitchen she returned to try yet again to get Danaë off her owner before she suffocated.

She knelt down and gently pushed the dog, earning several whines and yips. Star also pushed it, and instead of moving it licked her face with its huge, sloppy tongue.

"Well what a way to move in," Hermione commented, and Star gave her a look that said "I know".

Star turned to her dog, and rubbed it's head.

"Now look, I know you haven't seen me for a day because you came here before me, but now please let me up."

Gently, she pushed against the dog, and twisted her legs to the side as she brought her knees towards her. Luckily, her dog caught her message and she felt the weight on her decrease.

Managing to finally sit up she patted its head once again before attemtping to stand up. Her legs were dead, so she ended up stumbling. But after a few moments she could finally walk.

Hermione could only stare, but she was familiar with this. They headed to the bedroom and began to unpack the luggage. Hermione discovered that it was filled solely with books.

"That explains why it's so heavy," Hermione commented before adding "Where are we going to put them?"

Star looked uncertain, glancing around the room.

"How did you have them in your apartment?"

"I had them in several stacks, I didn't have a bookshelf. Maybe they could go behind the tv?"

"Hmmm, yeah that sounds good."

Star settled in quickly to living with Hermione, since she had often stayed overnight.  Jake and Danaë were soon the bestest of friends, Jake often lying on Danaë's back when they slept.

They're favourite things to do were disturb Hermione's studying, which featured Danaë placing her head across Hermione's lap and Jake stepping over the keyboard on her  laptop.

They also liked to knock Star flat to the floor everytime she entered the apartment.

Apart from their crazy dogs, both Hermione and Star lived a fairly chilled life in the apartment.

Gradually they learnt a few things about one another, and often could tell when one was feeling overly stressed. They made sure to organise movie nights, reading sessions and other things to deal with stress. But more often than not they would just work in silence together, with some music in the background.

Hermione grew to really appreciate Star's company.

------

"Ooof," Star said as she was knocked to the floor.

After she managed to fend off the flurry of tongues and pick up the bag she had dropped on the floor right before the dogs attacked her, she headed to the kitchen.

"Hermione I bought doughnuts!"

"Okay.." she heard a shaky response. Instantly she was worried and put the bag on the dining table.

Padding into the bedroom she found Hermione sitting on the bed. She had her legs crossed with her arms wrapped around them.

Star tilted her head to the side, and asked what was wrong. Hermione looked up at her, her eyes brimmed with tears. Her face was flushed, and she looked embarassed.

"What's wrong?" She repeated as she sat down on the floor opposite Hermione.

She looked away, hiding her face.

"Hey, what's upset you?"

Hermione faced her, and mumbled into her arms.

"Its just...god it's stupi-"

"I doubt it."

She looked at her friend in shock, and decided that she should tell her.

"Sometimes I feel ugly, being half and half."

Surprisingly, Star leaned up and threw her arms around her. "Its not ugly at all. You're very pretty, with a pretty skin tone and a pretty smile." She pulled away slightly to face her.

Hermione looked at her and smiled shyly.

"There we go."

"Thank you," Hermione said before feeling a rush of affection for this girl that despite having difficulty with physical contact had hugged her without hesitation because she needed one.

She rushed at Star, pulling her into a clinging hug.

"I'm so glad I met you," she said into Star's hair.

"Me too," Star smiled.
