A Day Away from Everyone

Harry awoke in his four-poster bed in the boys’ dormitory at dawn. The sun began to pour in through the windows (the elves were clearly in here and had tidied up – or at least Dobby was – and had opened the windows and the velvety scarlet curtains that surrounded their beds) in their circular room.

It was going to be the perfect day… Harry had planned a nice quiet Saturday with Ginny – it was almost a month since they had started “dating” and he wanted to do something special for her, since the both of them have been busy with Quidditch practice and homework (“…most of the essays coming from Snape!” as Harry had cursed) not forgetting the weeks of detention he’d had served thus far with Professor Snape! All for reasons that seemed unclear apart from Snape enjoying Harry being away from the Quidditch pitch, but then again, that was partly the reason he is with Ginny, after all, she had lead them to win the Quidditch cup and then they had a huge celebration – just Harry and Ginny were nowhere to be seen. Today was one of the rare days he got to see Ginny, and since Lavender was out of Ron’s life and he was at peace with Hermione once again, Harry figured he’d take advantage of the opportunity.

It was now 7 o’clock in the morning. The Great Hall was buzzing with the usual daily morning activities; the owls had just arrived with the day’s post, and the breakfast this morning looked particularly sunny sided up! Even the ceiling of the Great Hall, reflected a bright blue sky above.

Making his way nonchalantly toward the Gryffindor table, as he approached Ginny from behind, Harry covered her eyes with his hands as she spoke to Luna, who was standing next to her talking about Nargles and repelling charms, while on her way to the Ravenclaw table (holding the Quibbler in her hands, upside down as usual). “Harry,” Ginny giggled, “what are you trying to do?” she had this beautiful smile, and her bright blue eyes had seemed to laugh with her too. “I’m trying to surprise you ofcorse! Oh, and this is just the beginning Ginny, today is going to be just you, me and a lot of catching up!” He smiled back down at her, drinking in every bit of her with his eyes.

Just then, before either Harry or Ginny could say another word, Ron and Hermione entered the Great Hall and were talking while making their way down to the Gryffindor table, while Crookshanks was trotting at Hermione’s heel looking around at everyone with his grumpy face, and Luna decided to depart to her house table, shifting out the way for Ron and Hermione to sit. In all this commotion, Harry, who was still standing and had attempted to take a seat during all of this, had tripped on his robes and fallen onto Ginny’s lap (who had already been seated), his green eyes met her blue ones and a serene silence filled the air around them, bliss welling up within them… Just then Ron taps Harry on the shoulder, jolting him and Ginny out of their moment of day dreaming, mumbling about having to see is best mate romancing his sister in front of him this early in the morning and about how he’s still getting used to the whole idea. Obviously he’d been too busy eyeing what’s for breakfast (his favourite French toast and jelly and custard) to notice that Harry had tripped on his robes!

At that very moment, Draco Malfoy had pranced in and passed down the Gryffindor table, looking to instigate some trouble for the morning. Ofcorse it was a Saturday, so thankfully neither of them would have to tolerate too much of him for the rest of the day (since he was rarely seen lately, often disappearing for long periods to the seventh floor, but Harry hadn’t got round to telling his best friends about that just yet) and they wouldn’t have to see him until Monday for classes, which was brilliant if you considered it for a while…

Thankfully, though, his drawling voice was shortly silenced by the sudden presence of Professors Dumbledore (Headmaster at Hogwarts), McGonagall, and Snape; who had walked passed them as well. Feeling the sudden need to see his friends Crabbe and Goyle, who were already seated at their house table digging into the jelly and custard, Malfoy swaggered on forward towards the Slytherin table and practically everyone at the Gryffindor table had sighed with relief!

“Ron, about…” Both Harry and Ginny began to explain about the accident before the ‘Malfoy intrusion’ (both smiling due to them blurting out the same thing), but Ron interrupted and said “It’s all right, I trust you with my sister.” And then he smiled and added, “Just try not to get all lovey-dovey in front of everyone, including me.” They laughed and Hermione smiled at Ron admirably. Professor Dumbledore rose just then and called for order as he was about to make the morning’s announcements – which wouldn’t take that long given the weekend and the Christmas Holidays around the corner.

Fred and George, as usual, found hilarious ways to distract everyone during breakfast, but seeing as they were no longer students here, and merely employees (under the pretence of working while building clientele for the Christmas season for their Weasleys’ Wizarding Wheezes owing to the fact that Filch had eventually caught up with their disguised deliveries after Ron’s episode with the chocolates laced with love potion, so the twins eventually decided to work in the castle undercover – ofcorse Dumbledore knew about this and figured that they all needed a laugh lately, given the circumstances with You-Know-Who.) they kept their presence among their ex-Gryffindor friends very brief.

Harry stole a quick glance at Ginny who was already looking at him; smiling from ear-to-ear… it was that heart warming smile that melted his insides. He took her hand in his and passed her a note so Ron wouldn’t see. Curiously, she opened the note which read:

After breakfast, meet me at the Quidditch pitch ❤️

He had drawn a little heart at the end. Ginny means the world to him, he couldn’t believe how long it had taken him to realise this! (She had liked him from the time he became friends with Ron and he’d even saved her from Voldemort in her 1st year at Hogwarts, obviously he’d cared for her, he just didn’t know when it had turned into love). Sometimes he wondered why he was the “Chosen-one”…

At last Romilda and her group of love potion-obsessed friends had left him alone after he had kissed Ginny in the common room during the celebrations when Gryffindor had won the Quidditch Cup.

That kiss, come to think of it, had changed a lot of things, even the way Ron looked at Hermione!

Harry had noticed this when they were alone together in the common room (since Harry would try to spend as much time with Ginny as he could). He knew that his two best friends would deny it, but they really fancy each other, which explained all their quarrels every year (except when it was about Harry and the situation with Voldemort, they somehow had seemed to agree then). But he was glad that he’d finally got his love - Ginny and they could be together now that her brother Ron was fine it was Harry that she was dating. Harry was terrified at what Ron would say before he had kissed Ginny, when he was still in denial like how Ron is about Hermione. Harry would spend hours arguing with himself about his feelings for Ginny… ahhh Ginny… Harry drifted off into a day dream about her.

Ginny! He was so busy day dreaming about her and the time he’s going to spend with her later on, he’d almost forgotten she was sitting beside him still at the breakfast table in the Great Hall!

“I guess it’s the pumpkin juice this morning… or maybe this is what it’s like to be with someone you truly love…” he thought and smiled to himself and finished his egg and toast.

After about an hour or what felt like it, Harry made his way to the Quidditch pitch where he’d scheduled to meet Ginny for some quiet time together. He’d asked Professor McGonagall permission to use the pitch for a few hours on the pretence of practicing for the next season, owing to the fact that the Dursleys would never let him practice in their back yard (which was a bit of an advantage today for Harry and Ginny), surprisingly she had agreed! Sometimes Harry wondered if the teachers at

Hogwarts knew exactly what the students were up to and what they were thinking. Then again, this was Hogwarts and legillimany was something very real here…

He conjured a blanket and set it down using his wand and then conjured some pillows and cushions to relax on given that they’ve just eaten breakfast. “Ginny should be here any minute now,” he thought.

She had gone up to the common room to leave her book which she had brought down to the breakfast table earlier.

As he walked back out through the change rooms and entered the Quidditch pitch (he had gone to see if she’d entered through there), and saw Ginny, standing there, her flaming red hair blowing in the gentle breeze, her big blue eyes glittering in the sunlight, smiling brightly really excited… Harry had butterflies!

“There you are!” he exclaimed as she ran up to him and threw her arms around him, followed by a kiss and then shied away. The two of them strolled to the little area he had set for them and after a little while they decided to take a stroll out towards the lake.

Soon it began to get a little cold out and the first snowflakes began to fall, so Harry and Ginny strolled around the secluded parts of the castle, to which neither of them needed introduction to, seeing that they often met in these areas between classes to steal kisses or to hide from various students who wanted to crowd around “the Chosen one and his girlfriend”.

Ofcorse Ron hadn’t known about some of these special hideouts because Harry wanted a special place to spend some decent time with Ginny without having to bump into her brother and his best friend.

It felt amazing to finally feel like a normal wizard, with a normal life, even if it was just for short periods of time away from the rest of the castle, with Ginny who meant the most to him. They were now approaching an abandoned classroom that was hidden away from the main part of the castle, they often spent time together here, just talking, and day dreaming about life together and living peacefully… no worries or battles looming around them; just them, happy.

“Harry, I still can’t believe this is for real! I had to pinch myself this morning when you handed me that note at breakfast.” She was blushing and she ducked her head as she hugged him, into his robes.

She loved the smell of him, of her Harry! They had made each other a promise, a promise to live every minute they got together to the fullest, for they didn’t know how long it was before You-Know-Who and his Death Eaters would strike again.

Harry pulled Ginny closer into a tighter hug and whispered: “I love you Ginny”, into her ear.

She responded and then after a brief silence she said: “I’m scared Harry, I can’t explain how scared I am for you, for us, and for our families. Mum and dad are already so tense and even Fred and George have this worried look in their eyes… and mum’s worried about Bill, Charlie, and…” she broke off into a soft sob on Harry’s shoulder. Harry couldn’t help but pull her into another hug and patted her back to calm her down.

“What comes will come when it does Ginny, for now we should be glad that we have each other and we should appreciate this moment and whatever we have. Don’t forget to make as many happy memories now; we never know when we’ll need them, not just for Patronuses but also to help us remember what we’re fighting for. We have something worth protecting, our family, our love, our future together…” This made her eyes well up a little more with tears, she was touched by his words, and grateful that she was his, he smiled and then kissed her.

For a very long time, they sat there, in the empty classroom, away from everything and everyone, just the two of them, being normal teenage wizards in love, at Hogwarts, hiding away from the teachers and snogging.

----- The end -----

A/n: This was the very first piece of writing I attempted and I'm actually very proud of it. A lot of family and people I once called friends had read this and gave me positive feedback. It was only after my pen friend overseas had read this, that I actually gathered up some courage to start writing on Wattpad years later. ☺️

This story is around ten years old. And think that it's some of my best fanfiction.

Good news! I am currently working on a BTS x Harry Potter world crossover. This will be a part of the new Jeon Jungkook fanfiction I will release once ready. It will be a mix of genres. So horror fans can have something to look forward to as well!
