TomRiddlexOC - Don't Leave Me

I was born because of a love potion and not because of love. My father was never around - he left before I was born. I was abandoned in an orphanage - feared and isolated. Love was never something I could understand. It was never something I wanted to understand. I let my anger and hate grow and fester for years.

But then...

Then I met her.

"Hi!"

I raised an eyebrow. No one had ever willing walked up to me before. No one has ever had the nerve. None the less has a girl walked up to me without some fantasy idea or total fear. I didn't respond as my eyes raked over her.

She wasn't that tall - not even of average height - around 4'5 maybe? She had really long hair by the looks of it. Her hair wasn't as dark as mine, but it wasn't exactly light either. Although she was short she wasn't stubby. She had a fairly appealing body.

I was snapped out of my observations by fingers clicking in my face. "Usually when someone says hi you say hello or hey back."

I raised my eyebrow again. Did she really think I was going to talk to her? I don't even know her. I was slightly impressed by the amount of guts she had. I wasn't interested in making polite conversation though.

"Okay then." She shrugged.

I expected her to walk away. Most people didn't hang around me as long as she did. I was surprised to say the least when she sat down next to me. I was about to comment about it when one of her legs were slung over my legs. I sneered at her and instead of cowering she slung her other leg over.

"The fuck you think you're doing?" I asked.

She didn't answer me. I scoffed and pushed her legs off of me. She responded by putting them in my lap again. I was getting really annoyed by this.

"Get the fuck off me." I growled. "Or I'm going to hex you."

"Hex? What are you 12?" She smiled.

"The hell is wrong with you?" I hissed out.

"What's wrong with you?" She shrugged.

"Fuck off." I growled.

"Don't feel like it."

"What do you want?"

She shrugged again but didn't answer my question. I tried pushing her legs off again but ended with the same result. I sneered at her and was met with an impassive shrug. Was this girl mentally ill or something? I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose.

*~*

That was 6 months ago. To this day I have no idea why she acted that way. It happened a few more times after that in some way or another. I was beginning to think she was some kind of crazed fan. That idea was shot down easily when I found out she didn't even know my name.

"Hey!"

I looked up only to be met with those pale blue eyes. I didn't respond - instead just shook my head. She was extremely persistent I had to give her that.

"Sooo. We haven't introduced ourselves to each other yet." She rocked on her feet.

I sighed and pinched my nose. I was getting tired of this. It was the same every day. She'd somehow find me and proceed to annoy me with small talk. Every time I threatened her she shrugged it off. Even when I did eventually hex her she came back.

"What do you want from me? I'm getting tired of this game." I said.

"I wasn't playing any games with you." She shrugged.

"What is with your obsessive shrugging and stalking me?" I grumbled.

"1. It's not obsessive shrugging. I just don't always know how to respond and it's a natural response. 2. I'm not stalking you. If I were you wouldn't know I existed and I'd be following you around everywhere. And 3. Before you ask. When I want to find you I usually just follow the line of shivering, cowarding students." She shrugged again.

"What do you want from me?" I asked again.

"A smile. A genuine one. And then I'll leave you alone for good." She grinned.

"Why would you want that?" I frowned.

"Oh you know. I realised you don't smile all that much so I thought it would be fun getting you to smile." She shrugged... Again!

"You're so annoying." I mumbled.

"What's your name?" She asked as she sat down next to me.

"Tom Marvolo Riddle." I cringed slightly.

"I'm Alicia Reid. Nice to officially meet you Tom." She offered me a smile.

I never thought someone would be so willing to talk to me. I've been told that my demeanor is scary - that I give off bad energy. Yet despite that and the numerous hexes I've thrown at her, Alicia Reid still comes back. All because she wants to see me smile? I haven't felt happy since the day I was born. I haven't had a reason to be happy. I don't even think I know how to smile.

It was the same. Every day she'd somehow find me. She'd annoy me, but her answer to my question was always the same. She wanted me to smile.

Always the exact same. Every day she'd somehow find me. I wasn't annoyed by her, but rather glad she was there. She still just wanted me to smile. Somehow I could see that happening.

Every day she'd somehow find me. It was like clockwork - I was able to pin down the exact time she'd show up. All she wanted was a genuine smile from me. She'd talk, I would listen. Slowly I started seeing the possibility of giving her what she wanted.

Every day for 6 months.

Every day for 6 months and 2 weeks.

Every day...

Every day except today.

I patiently waited. Expecting her usually excited greeting. I checked the time a few times. Still she hadn't shown. It's not like I was hard to find. I was sitting in my common room - plenty of scared students around me. She didn't come.

*~*

Every day she'd somehow find me.

This last week she hadn't.

She was persistent in getting what she wanted. So why wasn't she there. I didn't go anywhere. I wasn't hard to find. Somehow she never came. I found myself searching the halls for her. Searching the faces of every student. It was as if she'd disappeared.

I knew she was real. I knew I wasn't imaging the weight of her legs. I knew I wasn't imaging those brilliant eyes. I couldn't have been imaging that ridiculous request.

Every day...

But it's been a month now and she hasn't shown. A heart I never knew I had was aching. Something was telling me that something bad had happened. I had a nagging feeling that she was hurt. I didn't know why I cared. I really didn't know all that much about her.

I found myself walking towards the hospital wing. School was closed. I was an orphan. Dumbledore allowed me to live in the castle. There was no one here. No one left to see if it was her. Still I stood in front of the hospital wing doors.

I sighed and pushed the doors open. If Madam Pomfrey couldn't tell me something about Alicia then I don't know what else to do. This was my last... Chance?

"Madam Pomfrey? Are you here?" I asked.

She stepped out from behind a curtain and I frowned. No one else was supposed to be here. All the students had left a week ago. So who was behind that curtain.

"Mr. Riddle, is there something I can help you with?"

I nodded my head towards the curtain. Madam Pomfrey smiled but said nothing. Professor McGonagall walked out. That was it. Someone was there and I wasn't too happy about it. I marched over and ripped the curtain away.

My eyes went wide and my jaw fell slack. I had never lost my composure before but my mind couldn't process what I was seeing. The girl I had been looking for was there. Her skin was a sickly pale white. Her brilliant eyes where closed. If it weren't for the slow steady rise and fall of her chest I would have sworn she was dead.

"What happened?" I found myself asking.

"Someone threw a sleeping beauty curse at her." I think it was McGonagall who spoke.

"A what?"

"It's not a well known curse and we don't teach it. It makes the target fall into a death-like sleep." That was definitely McGonagall.

"How long ago?" I asked, my eyes never moved from Alicia.

"A month or so. We've been trying to find a way to break it." Madam Pomfrey.

I couldn't understand why I felt so pissed off. Sure I've felt anger and I've been angry. This was different. I wasn't angry for me, I was angry that someone other than me had hurt her. I felt kind of like she belonged to me and no one else had a right to touch her.

Madam Pomfrey tried to get me to walk away and I sneered. "Leave me alone."

I had never seen the medi-witch or professor McGonagall scared before. The look in their eyes was clear though. They feared me and for whatever reason I was happy about it. I wanted them gone and if it meant getting expelled I didn't care. They kept this a secret from me and I was not at all happy about it.

"Get away from her. Just leave!" I yelled.

I had a reputation for being the best in class, but I also had a reputation for being ruthless and scary. There was no doubt that they didn't believe it until just now.

I caught my reflection in the glass of the cupboard. My eyes were completely red. My skin a shade paler. It was almost like I was looking at a different version of myself. A version I could somehow understand but also didn't know existed. A version of myself that was full of hate and anger.

While I was staring at my reflection professor McGonagall and Madam Pomfrey had left. My anger was no less dampened as my attention was drawn back to Alicia. I couldn't understand how this happened. I couldn't understand what I was feeling.

I needed her to wake up. I needed to see her eyes again. I didn't understand my sudden need to have someone. I need her to explain it. She explained before when I was confused. She needed to explain again.

I sighed as I sat down next to her bed. I hesitated before grabbing her hand. It was icey cold - something like death. It only managed to anger me even more. I was ready to kill someone, anyone really.

"Still here?" I turned around and glared at Madam Pomfrey. "I may know how to save her."

"Then do it already." I sneered.

"It's not that simple dear. May I tell you a story?" Madam Pomfrey sat down on the other side.

"What good will that do?" I grunted.

"Let me tell you and you can decide." Madam Pomfrey smiled at me.

"Whatever." I grunted.

"It's an old muggle story." I sneered and she held up her hands. "Now now just listen. I'll give you the short version. There was a princess who had been cursed when she was born. When she turned 16 she fell into a deep sleep because of the curse. Nobody knew how to wake her up, but eventually a prince came along. He kissed the sleeping beauty and she woke up. The kingdom celebrated and claimed it was only true love that saved the princess. So the princess married the prince."

I rolled my eyes at Madam Pomfrey. "So what? You want me to kiss her?"

Madam Pomfrey shrugged and walked away. I was seething. What good was a stupid pathetic muggle story. Muggles knew nothing of how magic worked. They were stupid, blind, unworthy little maggots.

Still I couldn't help but wonder if kissing her would do something. Not to her exactly, but it had become an increasing thought. The days she spent hounding me.

I suddenly realised that I was keeping myself from smiling. Smiling meant she'd stop bugging me. Suddenly I didn't want that. I didn't want her to stop being there. This last month had been hell for me and up until now I hadn't realised why.

"You have to wake up." I mumbled. "You haven't seen me smile yet. Wasn't that your goal?"

I stood up and walked around the area. My mind buzzing with so many things. In these last few months this girl made me forget my hate and anger towards my father. Towards the life I had before. My attention had unwillingly been drawn to her and her alone.

I sighed not knowing how to help her. That stupid story was stuck in my head. I was no prince - at least not in the good way. The more I thought about it the more I thought of her as a princess. I was furious. When I find who did this they were going to pay. They were going to suffer.

"Please open your eyes. I need to see your eyes." I sighed and sat down again.

What was I supposed to do? I was supposed to be the most powerful wizard. That was my ambition, my end goal. Yet here I was unable to help one person I... I cared about.

That thought hit me like a well thrown hex. I cared about her. I really actually cared about someone. I shook my head as I stood up and leaned over her.

"This better fucking work or I'm killing everyone." I said to myself.

I swallowed the lump in my throat and leaned down. My lips brushed over hers. Her lips were soft and cold. That heart I found out I had felt like it was about to crumble. I closed my eyes as I thought about never seeing those pale blue eyes again. As I thought about the stabbing pain in my chest. She was so cold.

A hand brushed against my cheek - an icey-cold hand. Lips moved against mine. I pushed up from the bed ultimately breaking the kiss. I opened my eyes and was met with pale blue eyes.

"Hi." Alicia's voice cracked.

"Hey." I replied.

She laughed although it sounded strained. "I finally got a response from you."

I couldn't help but smile. She chuckled at me although still sounding strained. She brushed her hand through my hair.

"I see you finally smiled." She said, her voice just above a whisper.

"I thought I lost you." I said.

"I thought I annoyed you."

"No. I mean yes you do but..."

"Tom relax." Alicia laughed.

She cupped my cheek with her hand. It was so much warmer now. I leaned into her hand finally feeling relieved.

"Please don't leave me again." I whispered.

She smiled and shifted, sitting up. She pulled me closer to her and kissed me. For the first time in my life I understood what real love really was.
