Draco Malfoy- String (h)

Hogwarts had been your home for a good five years, and you honestly had no clue what you would've done with yourself if you had never gotten the chance to attend.

You were a half-blood witch, and the magic came from your Dad's side of the family who were relatively well known.

It was always a given that you were going to attend Hogwarts, but the fact that you were there still amazed you.

Of course, there was always going to be the house rivalries and people who didn't like each other – you managed to not let it bother you.

However, when the comments and such were directed your way, it was difficult to ignore them.

Like most people you didn't like being called horrible things, but it was something that happened and all you could do was deal with it.

It had gotten to the point of the day for your potions class.

You were relatively good at potions, one of the top in the class, and for that Snape decided to partner you with Draco.

The partners had been done at the beginning f the year, and since then Snape had made it clear that they weren't going to change.

To begin with Draco had grumbled, you weren't too happy with it either, but over time the two of you got into somewhat peace whilst working.

Snape had explained the potion that you were going to be creating earlier on.

It was a potion that was said to connect the person making it to their soulmate by a string around their wrist – it sounded intriguing, but Snape had exaggerated the fact that the potion needed to be made perfectly in order for it to work.

You and Draco were nearing the end of the recipe, having been able to work through it without bickering unlike the rest of your class.

As Draco placed the final ingredient, the two of you placed a part of the potion in your respective glasses.

With a nod to each other, you both drank the potion and waited in anticipation for the expected results.

After a few moments, Draco sighed in frustration and turned to face you.

"Why isn't it working?"

You shrugged slightly. "I don't know, we did everything right."

"You must have messed it up."

"Me? Why me?"

He rolled his eyes. "I did everything perfectly, so you must have gone wrong – knew it was going to happen," he ranted at you. "How could I even think that you would be able to complete this? Merlin, I know Snape has faith in me, but how on earth can he have faith in you?"

You went to say something back to him, but you couldn't find the words so you left the room without looking at Draco again.

Tears had welled up in your eyes.

Not so much from what he was saying, more so from shock.

You'd thought that over the past few months you and Draco had been getting on, and then for him to freak out at you like that was a shock.

Unknown to you, Draco had realised an emerald green string was wrapped around his wrist so with a nod towards Snape, he followed it.

After a few moments of you sitting against the wall, your head in your hands, you heard footsteps coming towards you.

"Draco?" you questioned when you looked up to see him stood in front of you. "You here to insult my intelligence again?"

He sighed, shaking his head and wordlessly motioning to the string around his wrist leading to you.

An inaudible gasp leaves your mouth as you realise the reality behind the string.

"We did it right," you murmured to yourself.

Draco chuckled and sat down next to you. "That's what you're focusing on here?"

He had a smile on his face, which was a new thing for you to see.

"This string defines our future for us Y/N."

"And that's a good thing? I doubt you want to be stuck with me Draco."

He shook his head in disagreement. "This doesn't mean we need to be together immediately," he reminded you gently. "It just means that we're right for each other."

"Your parents are going to hate me."

"Why would that be?"

It was your turn to sigh. "I don't mean to sound rude Draco, but your parents are pureblood and I am not."

"We will have to cross that bridge when we come to it."

You smiled at him. "What does it all mean Draco? Where do we go from here?"

"This means that we get to know each other. There is never going to be any rush, and with everything looming over us – a relationship isn't helpful for either of us."

"But it could be."

He chuckled, lifting up one of his arms so that he could pull you into a hug. "Only time will tell Y/N."

The two of you stayed like that for a few more minutes, talking and generally enjoying each other's company – something you thought you would never be doing with Draco Malfoy.

Draco finally stood up, holding his hand out to you so that he could help you up.

Once you were standing in front of him, he gently pressed a kiss to your cheek, his lips lingering ever so slightly.

Without saying another word, he began to walk down the corridor to his next lesson.

He then turned around to face you. "See you tomorrow L/N," with those words and a wink in your direction, he continued on his way.

All you could do was smile after him, and wonder how on earth the two of you were put together.
