Hannah Abbott- In Love and War (c)
It was almost inevitable that there would be another war. After the first war that your parents fought in, it was more of a when than if there would be a second wizarding war. Everyone hoped it was just the pessimistic outlook post war, but sadly it had come to pass. Voldemort and his death eaters were encroaching on the Hogwarts castle, and students and teachers were doing their best to keep up defences but prepare for them to fall and fight for what was good and just.
You could see mainly red and yellow robes amongst you, with a few blue and green here and there. You hated to see your classmates stood in the dark halls, knowing that not all of them were going to leave in the way that they had turned up.
As you walked around the halls, you tried to give your friends a friendly smile, but knowing things weren't going too well you were unable to try and be happy, too scared about the fate that would come to the school that had become your home, and the students and teachers whom had become your family.
Amongst the students you saw the blond girl who your heart had become ever so fond of. Hannah was in your house, and she was a kind and strong-willed girl, that you couldn't help but care for. You had been friends since your first year, but you could never tell her how you truly felt, in fear it would ruin your friendship and she wouldn't feel the same.
"Hannah?" You questioned.
She turned to you, holding her wand towards you defensively. She held it down slightly, knowing that she didn't need to protect herself from you.
"Hi," she said softly, not knowing what to say, as this was a situation neither of you ever wanted to be in.
"What are you doing here? You should have left," you sighed.
You wish she had. You wished she had left and wasn't there to fight, even though truly you all needed as many people as you could. There were mainly students, untrained fighters against adult death eaters whom would fight dirty- fight to kill their opponents.
"Why would I have left? You didn't."
"What if you get hurt?" You whispered.
"What if you get hurt?" She retorted. "I'm not going anywhere. I need to fight for good, if we don't fight for what is right, then we are just letting them win."
You let out a sigh. She was right, and you hated that. If she was right, then it meant you couldn't get her to leave, you would have to see her fight, and maybe it wouldn't end well.
"I don't want to see you get hurt," you whispered.
"People get hurt in a war Y/N," she frowned. "Maybe it'll be me, maybe it will be you, it could be anyone we love or care about."
"But I love you Hannah."
You froze as you realised that the words had escaped your mouth. Why did you have to say that? Maybe this was your only time to tell her.
She looked confused also for a moment, before she reached out her left hand to cup your cheek, to pull you into a sweet kiss. Her lips ghosted over yours, as she kept close to you, eyes closed trying to savour the moment, not knowing if there would be many, or any, more.
"I will tell you once this battle is one," she smiled softly. "Give us both a reason to live to see the end of this, because it will end, and when we win, life will be by far happier."
You nodded your head, happy to know that she did feel the same, and it wouldn't be long until she could tell you that as you would be happy one day- one day together.
