Remus swallowed thickly as he placed his phone on the table in front of him. The screen was facing downwards so that he couldn't see any new messages flashing up.

His vision was blurred as he stood up and walked into the bathroom with heavy steps.
He silently looked at himself in the mirror. His scratched face. 

His puffy eyes, which he owed to all the crying.

His brown hair, which fell in strands over his smoky green eyes, which glistened like glass.

He just didn't understand what other people found so great about him. What made him so special that he deserved friends like Marlene, Lily or Dorcas.

How had he managed to get anywhere near the best-looking, friendliest, most loyal, sweetest, most dramatic boy in the world?
How had he managed to make this boy fall in love with him?

How?

Sighing, he propped his hands on either side of the sink and watched sadly as a single tear made its way down his cheek and ran silently down the hem of his t-shirt.

"I'm a wreck," he realised, not for the first time, and rubbed the tears from his eyes with less than total determination.

Then he turned away from the mirror so that he no longer had to see his agonised expression and closed the door behind him as he left the bathroom.
