The next class of the day was defence, luckily no student was late for this one they all sat down spread out, the Gryffindors mostly kept to themselves and didn't mix but Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff did, the defence teacher professor Lupin walked in. He said: "This class is not one for you to joke and mess about in, I'm sure you've been told in transfiguration it's a serious subject this is one of them as well, I can make lessons fun but I can also make them your worse subject, now I have a copy of all your cores ah Mr Malfoy our famous celebrity in our class, tell me, Mr Malfoy, what do I use to keep vampires away?" "Garlic sir" "if you are in a dark cave, what spell do you use to give you light?" "the wand lighting charm Lumos sir," Professor Lupin said "well it seems you do know some things, and clearly fame has not gone to your head to make you think you are smarter than us, and those answers are in your textbook now on your desk, you'll find one of 3 books light grey and dark these correspond to your magic core colour"

Students looked through them "the spells in them are more relating to your core if you have, a dark core the spells are better suited for you they give the same results as the light spells if grey it is a mix of both kinds that give the same results, find which suit you best now read through chapter 1" he sat down on the board was what topic they were covering at the moment. Draco read his book "hey Sumire is it me or do you think professor Lupin doesn't like me?" he whispered to her, she looked at him and whispered back "I think he thinks you'd be like potter and think you're better than everyone" Draco nodded.

After the chapter was read professor Lupin said "I will call on each one of you to answer a question or perform a spell, if the spell is the answer you are allowed to look in your book if not, you do not look" he went around one by one asking people and most got them right. Soon it was Sumire's turn and she managed to answer it right, professor Lupin said "that is correct a point to Slytherin" he gave a point for each correct answer and took one for each wrong one, soon it was Draco's turn "now Mr Malfoy, say there's a problem around my house and I find that there are mounds of soil around my garden and that my plants have their roots eaten, my muggle neighbours think it's a mole is it that or something else?"

Draco thought for a moment "it's garden gnomes" professor Lupin said "correct a point" "he cheated!" harry shouted out. Draco looked at him "how did I cheat potter?" Blaise said "yes potter, how exactly did he cheat?" the Gryffindor girl sat next to harry said "because she told him," Dudley said "that's right, what Hermione said" Hermione looked so smug at this, she didn't like Sumire who seemed to be getting better scores than her. "I didn't help him, my books closed" "really then why is it open on the page with the answer?" Ron smugly said "yeah, they'd somehow gotten Sumire's book open to the page with the answer on, professor Lupin looked and said "the book is open, so 5 points from Slytherin for cheating, Slytherin's are meant to be cunning yet that is far from cunning if you get caught"

Sumire was holding back tears in frustration and angry "I didn't help him!" "I know you didn't," Nevil told her. Blaise and Draco nodded "I know you didn't Sumire, they somehow made it so it looked that way" he hugged her to make her feel better. It just frustrated her no one blamed her, they knew she'd been set up and they'd gotten enough points not to worry about the loss of 5 points, the end of the lesson couldn't come soon enough.
