Supernatural Season 1 Episode 12: Faith
20 years later
Before talking with Sirius and Remus, Hadrian met Death in Phoenix and learned more about his new life.
Which was mostly, controlling the Reapers until Death is truly freed from his prison during the Apocalypse, which confused Hadrian for a bit because it surely seemed like Death was there in front of him.
But all Death did was wave him off with a small explanation, "Death can be in many places, but not always truly there. You'll understand what I mean soon enough." Before letting Hadrian return to that motel where he then had that discussion with Remus and Sirius.
Which somehow ended up with him in Nebraska trying to find a missing Reaper who he received a distress signal before he went off the map.
It took him three weeks to find the 'faith healer' and knew something was up. So, he sat near the back and watched his first 'healing session' wondering if this guy was a fraud or if something weird was happening.
As he sat waiting for the session to start, he perked when he spotted two young men and his magic gave a slight twitch. Like they were human, but not the ignorant humans.
Looking deeper at their souls, Hadrian was slightly surprised to note that the two young men have been hunting for a very long time, and not the deer type of hunting either.
That must've been one heck of a way to grow up. Wondering why they were there, Hadrian glanced at their souls once more and noted that the older of the two seemed to have this heart condition.
As everyone seemed to quite, the man started to talk.
"Each morning, my wife, Sue Ann, reads me the news. Never seems good, does it? Seems like there's always someone committing some immoral, unspeakable act. But, I say to you, God is watching." (Supernatural- 9:36-9:56)
The man went on about God and Hadrian started to zoned out because he's heard multitude of speeches from priests during his time before Hogwarts when his aunt thought she could 'pray away the evil which resided in him'.
Complete bogus, and eventually she stopped dragging him to church around the age of seven after the meeting with the Reaper as his magic became a bit more calmer. She thought she had succeeded and didn't see the need for him in going to church anymore (which is weird logic when Hadrian thought about it).
He was about ready to just sleep through the lecture before the dying hunter caught his attention by muttering something that the blind priest seemed to pick up on.
But that wasn't really what drew his attention, it was the way his missing Reaper was suddenly standing behind the man glaring at him.
As the priest drew the hunter--Dean was his name Hadrian recalled being said--Hadrian watched as his missing Reaper glared at the priest and his wife before disappearing at the priest laid his hand upon the side of Dean's head.
Hadrian's lungs stopped for a second as Death's magic wrapped around the man almost reluctantly, before a soul was traded for another soul as the Reaper returned.
As soon as the transfer was complete, Hadrian felt Dean Winchester healthy and suddenly a large amount of air collapsed into his lungs making him cough and feel sick to his stomach.
It was unnatural.
And the Reaper knew this, so why...
Ah. the glaring, Hadrian figured that perhaps the Reaper didn't actually want to be doing something, hence the distress signal it tried to send.
Right, first order of business, find Max, the missing Reaper, and see if he can tell him anything about how his captive is.
----------------
Finding Max wasn't that hard. It was getting him alone and not looking insane was the problem. Especially as Hadrian didn't know which of the two humans, the priest or wife, could see the Reaper in order to control him.
If they saw him that was.
There were a bunch of binding rituals that Hadrian really didn't know which one was working and which of them could let their kidnapper see them.
So, he wasn't able to get alone with Max, though they made eye contact multiple times (and each time Hadrian did he sent calmly magic toward the Reaper) but couldn't interact as of yet.
It wasn't until the next healing session that Hadrian was able to find Max. He followed the Death Magic that Max left to hunt his next victim.
Just as Max was approaching the hunter and the man he recognized as David Wright, a local protester about the church being a cult.
When Max was killing David, Hadrian let his own Death Magic breeze over to Max who instantly stopped.
Hadrian watched as Max turned and faced him almost instantly, his face blank. It took only a brief shake of his head and his own magic nullifying the small contract of David's soul before Max nodded and disappeared.
Hadrian felt the hunters confusion as he stared at him, but all Hadrian did was simply disappear once more and to try and find what's holding Max here.
----------
It took him till nightfall to figure out that the hunters were going to be able to handle the ritual and destroying it, Hadrian's job was to make sure that Max didn't kill anyone else.
Following the Death trail that had started as soon as the priest laid his hand on the sick girls head, Hadrian instantly followed it.
He found Max in the parking lot, killing the hunter that was healed last time. Just as Max was holding the hunters head, Hadrian apparated right next to Max and held the man's wrist while drawing the Death magic into him instead of the hunter.
But being Death's chosen, he would not die, for Death would always have a companion until he took his last breath.
Max looked at Hadrian with a slight grateful look until the two immortals (more semi-immortal to Max than Hadrian) felt the spell broken.
Max instantly released his hand and Hadrian followed until they stared at one another. "You have permission, Max," Hadrian spoke softly as his thirteen year old voice filled the air.
Max gave a deep bow, before vanishing and finding the one who wished to bind him for their own greed, if her husband was not to die, than she will take his place instead.
Hadrian watched as Max left, and was about to leave himself before the hunters hand grabbed his shoulder.
"Can we talk," the hunter asked as he regained his breath from the asphyxiation he endured during the transfer of souls.
Hadrian debated with himself before he gave a slight tilt of his head and allowed himself to be lead to a 1967 impala. Which was actually kinda impressive.
As Hadrian and the hunter arrived to the car, the hunters younger brother also arrived. "This the kid you saw?" the hunter gripping Hadrian's shoulder asked.
"Yeah, where'd you find him?" Hadrian noted that even though he was younger, he was taller than his older brother.
"Don't know how, but he saw the Reaper and placed a hand on the dudes wrist. Don't really know what happened from there, all I know is that I stopped dying," the older hunter explain slightly gruffly but seemed like he mostly wanted to get out of the town.
"I transferred Max's powers of killing you, to me," Hadrian spoke softly and allowed himself to be lead to the back of the impala's seats.
"How are you not dying?" The younger brother asked slightly shocked but also got in with his brother.
Hadrian just tilted his head and observed the brother, weighing his options before settling on a question, "What are your names? I know the one driving is named Dean, but I do not know your name, nor your surnames."
The two brothers glanced at one another before Dean answered slightly rude, "I'm Dean, this is Sam. Answer our question, pipsqueak."
Hadrian made a face at the name, knowing that he was only one year younger than Dean was. "What if I don't want to," Hadrian challenged back.
"Dean," Sam the younger and seeming more 'innocent' than his brother cut in with a face that Hadrian thought of as a 'bitchface' if that was possible.
"What, come on man. Kid shows up, says he transferred a Reapers powers, than doesn't answer our questions. That just screams supernatural."
Hadrian was just happy they haven't tied him up yet, or really at all. Maybe it was because he still looked thirteen, but he wasn't going to point anything out, especially his age.
Shaking his head slightly, Hadrian just raised an eyebrow at the two brothers. "Maybe I'll explain another day, but I have duties to attend back to and make sure Max, the reaper that was bound, is alright and can catch up on his paperwork."
Before the two brothers could ask anymore questions, Hadrian used his own magic to apparate out leaving behind an almost silent pop and startling the two brothers into almost driving off the road back to their motel.
Leaving Hadrian to return back their house in South Dakota that looked like a two story on the outside, but was totally a mansion on the inside due to a little bit of regular wizard magic and a hint of death magic with a mix of runes.
