Chapter 2: Hadrian Peverell
Hadrian Peverell was questioned, by he never answered most of them. And when his mind felt like it was being probed, he simply showed other images that were not so important to throw in front of the mental probe.
It was a long school year, and he felt bored most of the time. At least, the times he wasn't with Luna or Neville who seemed to understand him. Luna more than Neville.
Luna had this habit of dragging him outside and into the forbidden forest to meet some of the Unicorns that seemed happy to great him, like an old friend.
The Thestals he saw were his favorite though, there was just a way that whenever he saw them his insides melt and all his tense features relaxed as he just pet them and just talked to them, even if Luna was there or if she left.
Because of his change in attitude, he worried a lot of people, and he made a list to tell certain people about what really happened, but he was happy when the school year was over.
A first for him.
It was mostly because he was interested to know what Death had planned regarding the summer as he seemed to hint about something.
Over the last few months of the school year, his Headmaster was working with the Wizamont and especially Amelia Bones regarding Hadrian's godfather Sirius Black and getting his trial.
Right now, Hadrian was twirling his quill in his fingers as he stared at the blackboard already bored even though it was twenty-five minutes into the Transfiguration final exam.
An exam that Hadrian had already finished within twenty minutes. His handwriting looking smooth and very understandable than the chicken-scratch he initially started out with.
There was many things different about him, he knew this and he knew others knew that he was different, but unlike them, Hadrian was embracing the change and continued to learn inside his mind as it reviewed the new information.
The information such as the supernatural creatures that exist, the angels, demons, hellhounds, hell and heaven itself. There was even a bit of information on god in his mind too.
Though, the favorite part of the new information was regarding the angel Gabriel, now Loki, and the pranks he has played.
It seemed Death really did know everything as Hadrian has laughed many times to himself when he viewed the trickster god pranking people and sometimes even approved a few of them.
Unknowingly, he marked Gabriel/Loki's soul as protected so that even Death himself would respect the man and not take the soul should he almost die.
Though, being marked only gave you one shot at not dying, it never gave second chances even if the soul was a favorite to the Master of Death.
"Mr.Potter," A stern voice pierced Hadrian's thoughts as he came back to Hogwarts and to the face of a disapproving Ms.McGonagall.
Hadrian mentally sighed but went along with his old name. "Yes, Ms.McGonagall? May I help you?" Hadrian asked softly and respectfully.
His teacher raised her eyebrow and looked pointedly toward the test that was in front of him. Hadrian mentally sighed and realized that he should've spaced out the exam instead of doing it in twenty minutes.
"I'm finished," Hadrian said softly, slightly hesitantly.
"Oh are you? You've got it twenty-eight minutes ago, Mr.Potter," Ms.McGonagall said seeming to not be amused by what she assumed was a prank.
Hadrian shrugged and handed his test to his teacher and ignored the way Draco Malfoy was snickering to his far right.
That was another thing that changed, Hadrian didn't get into any fights with Draco Malfoy anymore, whenever a harsh comment went his way Hadrian just shrugged and walked away and sometimes even dodged the one hex that Malfoy tried to hit him with to try and get him to respond.
But Hadrian just didn't feel like harming Malfoy, because he knew that it was slightly childish and with his powers not fully settled, he could harm someone.
Back to reality and not his mind, Hadrian watched as Ms.McGonagall frowned and picked up his test and started skimming it over.
Her right eyebrow joined the left as it lifted and her face became slightly twisted in a confused way.
She seemed to catch herself quickly and went back to being her normal stern expression. "Well, instead of wasting an hour here then, Mr.Potter, you may go and hang out in the dorm-room. I will let the other professors know that you are excused from your exam," she said but her voice sounded slightly strained as she flipped to the next page of his final.
Hadrian just shrugged, gathered his bag by his feet (that had notes from himself about Death's Magic and understanding it better), before going toward the Greenhouse instead of his dorm.
As Hadrian walked outside, he saw the woman from the Infirmary wing and waved to her while giving her a smile. She returned it before walking at a distance from him keeping an eye around.
Hadrian made quick work to the Greenhouse and saw Neville there planting with Professor Sprout as he talked about all sort of plants that Hadrian was still impressed with his friend know.
"Hey, Neville," Hadrian said as he opened the Greenhouse door.
"Hadrian!" Neville shouted in surprise excitement as he grabbed his friends hand and dragged him into the Greenhouse all the while sprouting about a new plant that the Professor had gotten and was letting him take care of over the summer as it needed lots of love and care.
"It's a sort of baby, but also a plant. Once it really connects to you and your magic it will become a guardian to you and your house. They can get up to the size of a that minivan you showed me before. They help protect your house and family," Neville explained as he held a small, fist sized purple plant that seemed to be more of a flower than a plant he's use to seeing in the wizardry world.
"That's great Neville, is there anything you want to work on around here while we talk?" Hadrian asked as the pair ignored the curious, but respectful Sprout who was still working a bit away.
"Yeah come on, some of the plants need weeding," Neville explained as he handed Hadrian a pair of garden gloves.
Hadrian, use to garden work at the Dursleys, easily kept pace with Neville as they groomed and cared for the plants in the Greenhouse all the while talking about everything and nothing at the same time.
Hours went by with the professor leaving only once to meet with the other teachers before dinner came, both Hadrian and Neville reluctantly left the Greenhouse to head to the Great Hall for dinner.
Hadrian more than Neville because it seemed that as he got use to his Death Powers, his hunger started to diminish and he found he didn't need to eat as much as his friends did. Especially Ron Weasley.
Neville and Hadrian sat near the end of the table away from Hermione and Ron who were whispering to one another and kept glancing at Hadrian while glaring at Neville, then glared at Luna who joined the pair shortly after they arrived.
"Hello, Deaths Chosen," Luna said in her normal, out of the world tune.
Hadrian looked at her fondly and replied, "Death's Seer, how was your finals?"
Luna gave a real smile to the pair and then started rambling about how she might be close to finding Nargles using the information she learned during History of Magic and how the Goblins may be able to help her.
Neville and Hadrian both tipped in information they knew, while Hadrian neither denied or confirmed their existence, and all seemed to enjoy their time at dinner.
Only Luna and Neville were eating while Hadrian only had a glass of water, and that was to make sure his throat didn't get parched.
Just as the new trio were about the leave, Ms.McGonagall came up to Hadrian and handed him a note explain to head to the Headmasters office after he was done with dinner, alone.
Hadrian reassured his friends that he would be quite alright, and after glancing at the Reaper near him, found himself moving toward the Headmasters office while glancing at the note that had the new candy flavor password on it.
Saying the password, Hadrian entered the office and spotted both Weasley parents there, Remus, and Severus Snape there with the Headmaster.
Hadrian's mind overworked as it gathered information from the scene in front of him and in that time, he spotted the Reaper entered the room with another Reaper, both were frowning.
Hadrian was surprised to note the other Reaper was Ivan. "Hello Remus, Mrs. and Mr.Weasley. Why are you guys here?" Hadrian asked kindly and respectfully.
He saw Remus looking fondly at him, and his inner wolf was wagging his tail at seeing his pup once more.
Hadrian couldn't help but smile and send a spark of playful magic toward the inner wolf in Remus and watched the man jump, look amused and curious. Their eyes caught and Hadrian gave a smirk that he knew his father wore around his friends letting him know that he knew something they didn't.
Remus looked surprised and curious but Hadrian tore his eyes from them and looked at the headmaster as he spoke, "Harry, my boy, please have a seat."
Hadrian followed the instructions easily and sat in the seat in front of the headmaster. "Harry, can you please explain this to us," The headmaster said as he placed Hadrian's Transfiguration exam in front of him.
"It's my Transfiguration exam," Hadrian said as he barely glanced at it.
"Please, this arrogant boy knows exactly what he's done. He cheated on his test," Severus sneered as he spoke and glared at the boy, but Hadrian saw the hint of worry in the Potion Professors eyes like he did care about Hadrian but could not show it at all.
Hadrian just ignored the professor as he stared the headmaster down, who seemed to put on an act of 'I'm disappointed in you' look. "Harry-"
"Hadrian," Hadrian interrupted and saw Remus look startle to his left, "my name is Hadrian."
"Harry my boy," The Headmaster repeated without taking in Hadrian's new name, making both him, the Reapers, and even Remus frown at the old man, "this is a serious thing. Cheating is not tolerated and can have you expulsion. If you can tell us who told you the answers to your examine than you might be able to get off being expulsion."
Hadrian stared at the old wizard in front of him with a small tilt of his head, his face giving nothing of his feelings as it was a blank state. "What makes you think I cheated?" Hadrian asked.
"Oh, Harry, this is nothing to joke about," Mrs.Weasley started as she started to act like a mother-hen type of overbearing.
Mr.Weasley just stood by Remus, whispering to the other man as he was looking at Hadrian, but had a look of belief in them, like he believed Hadrian didn't cheat.
Hadrian raised an eyebrow at Mrs.Weasley who looked like she was just half-acting like she was henning over Hadrian, interesting.
"I did not cheat, nor did anyone give me any means to cheat. I would like to remind you that the quills used are to prevent cheating," Hadrian reminded them.
"Harry, my boy, it isn't possible for anyone, let alone a third year, to get a perfect score on a Transfiguration exam in thirty minutes of a two-hour long test."
"twenty," Hadrian corrected without thinking much about it. "And it is if they have studied."
"Still, the essays should've taken twenty-five at least for each of the three essays," the Headmaster argued.
Hadrian stared at the man before getting a quill from on top of the professor's desk and a spare quill before writing all his essays down in a minute and a half. His penmanship flawless and neat and matched word for word that of his essays on the exam.
After handing the written portion he had just finished, Hadrian gave it to the headmaster and leaned back in his chair with a raised, expectant eyebrow.
"Is that all, Headmaster, or can I go to bed now?" Hadrian asked as he stood up from his seat.
"Now, Harry-"
"Hadrian"
There was a brief pause as almost everyone caught the annoyed term in Hadrian's voice.
"Yes, please explain this name you have on your test please," The headmaster asked smoothly as he pointed toward Hadrian Peverell that was on top of the paper in the name spot.
Hadrian raised an eyebrow with a face that asked if the headmaster was stupid. "It's my name," Hadrian said almost in a bored tone.
"Last I checked, your name was Harry Potter," the headmaster said kindly and almost grandfatherly, had Hadrian not seen the annoyed look in the headmasters eyes.
"Hmm, well last I checked with the Goblins my legal name is Hadrian Peverell," Hadrian said like he was explaining something to a toddler that wasn't listening.
"Harry Potter don't you know how dangerous it is to visit Diagon Alley by yourself!" Mrs.Weasley practically screeched.
Hadrian looked bored at her. "Sorry, was that for me. I don't answer to Harry Potter you see, the name's Hadrian. As for going to the alley, I didn't go to Diagon, I owled them."
It was a lie, but the Goblins would cover the story should they ever have a Goblin that was more inclined to answer any questions by wizards. They hated wizards for not having equality and always demanding them to take care of their money, and then not listen to investments they should make with said money.
That, and Ivan the Reaper was already nodding along and seemed to disappear for a few seconds before reappearing next to the female Reaper and nodding at her, like a job was done.
"Now young man, that's no way to treat Mrs.Weasley," The headmaster tried to say before his eyes fell onto Harry's.
Instead of the boyish innocent emerald green eyes he was expecting, he saw dark, intelligent, ancient eyes looking at him.
It stayed silent for a few more seconds before Hadrian turned toward Remus and Mr.Weasley. "Remus, lovely to see you again, I will be very said to see you go but I know Sirius is going to need some help recovering. Keep in contact over the summer please and make sure Sirius writes to me. Even if he thinks it's boring I want to get to know him, and you for that matter. Mr.Weasley, lovely to see you again I do apologize for wasting your time," Hadrian said and before anyone could stop him, he was out the door with the two Reapers following him.
------------------------
After Remus, Mr. and Mrs.Weasley left Severus turned to the Headmaster. "What do you think is wrong with Harry?" he asked almost softly as he pulled out the Potion Exam that Har-Hadrian had done yesterday.
All answers right, along with a perfect potion. The written part only taking five minutes and the potion just barely over 30 minutes. Which was very impressive as the potion was suppose to take an hour longer than that.
The headmaster stared at the seat Hadrian had sat in. "I don't think we're dealing with Mr.Potter anymore," admitted Dumbledore
Severus sneered at the Albus, hiding his worry. "What do you mean old man!" He snapped out.
"I fear that Mr.Potter may be possessed. His eyes, Severus, they were far too intelligent for a 13 year boy."
"What do we do?"
Albus' old blue eyes that shinned with worry connected with Severus Snape's black eyes. "We fix him, before the Death Eaters catch wind of how unusual Mr.Potter is and use it for their advantage. Keep an ear out, Severus, I fear our future may have changed."
It was silent as Fawkes stared at the two men in front of him, feeling pulled toward keeping the Master of Deaths secret. It wasn't hard to keep such a secret, as he cared for the fledging of Death.
