Act 3: Scene 18 (continued)

MINISTRY OF MAGIC, DEPARTMENT OF MYSTERIES, DEATH CHAMBER

DELPHI is too quick. Leveling her wand, she repels HARRY's spell. She curses him. His knees buckle. HARRY tries to curse her, but she quickly overpowers him. He fires a bolt back. DELPHI blocks it easily. The bolt smashes into the ground. In pain, HARRY climbs the steps and ducks behind a bench.

DELPHI: Are you crawling away from me? Harry Potter. Hero of the wizarding world. Crawling away like a rat.

He fires off a spell at her. It misses entirely. She's enjoying the game of this.

You've got sloppy, Harry. Keep up, old man.

His legs are exposed behind the bench. DELPHI sends a bolt of red light. He hollers out in pain.

HARRY: You make one more move and I'll use the Killing Curse, I swear it.

DELPHI: No, you won't. Still, there's glory in being taken down by Harry Potter himself, I suppose.

She genuflects, then laughs.

Come out, My Lord. Don't make me drag you.

A moment passes. Then DELPHI casts a spell. HARRY stands. He is wrapped in luminous cords. She pulls back on her wand and he tumbles forward, landing hard on the dais.

HARRY: What did you think would happen? I would run away with you? Destroy the Ministry of Magic?

DELPHI holds out her arms.

DELPHI (exhilarated): It's happening as we speak. You're acting like you have any choice in the matter. Did you not understand, Harry? These are not childish games we are playing here. This is our destiny. (beat) The Augurey, heralding a new age. And, beside her, Lord Blitzfanger. Both heirs of the Dark Lord Voldemort — me, his blood — you, his soul. The prophecy cannot be stopped!

HARRY stands and makes a run for the veil.

Ah-ah... No, you don't.

DELPHI pulls back on her wand again. She stops HARRY right before he reaches the stone archway. He falls with a slam.

Oh, this is too much.

HARRY (softly): Your prophecy is a lie.

DELPHI: What did you say, My Lord?

HARRY: I'll never be — your Lord!

DELPHI (affronted): But you are. Why are you fighting this? Stop rejecting what we are. Think what's possible. A world controlled by the two of us is —

HARRY: A horrific world.

DELPHI: No, it would be OUR world. Voldemort's world.

HARRY: Voldemort is gone!

DELPHI: My father is alive. He is my past, present, and future, Harry Potter. Because he lives in you.

She stands over him, looking taller.

Why run from the inescapable? They're waiting for us. Come with me. Be with me.

And then hissing words escape her lips as DELPHI speaks intently in Parseltongue. The delicate hissing stops. HARRY blinks. He sits up and squints at DELPHI. Her wicked smile spreads broadly.

HARRY: What was that?

DELPHI: I can speak Parseltongue like you and my father.

HARRY: That was Parseltongue. That — I — I didn't understand...

DELPHI: I told you that we will rebirth the —

HARRY: No.

HARRY stands. A grin of awareness breaks across his face.

No, I don't understand...

He looks at DELPHI with more clarity than we've seen in a long time.

...because Voldemort is not a part of me anymore...

HARRY flicks his wand. The restraints around him fall.

...because Voldemort is dead!

DELPHI: That can't be true.

DELPHI panics and speaks in Parseltongue.

HARRY: Try all you want! I am not a living Horcrux. His soul was destroyed.

DELPHI: You're wrong, Harry. My father —

HARRY: I killed your father! Twenty years ago!

DELPHI: NO! It has to be you. My whole life has been leading to this.

HARRY: And now it ends.

HARRY smiles. Where there was discomfort and insecurity, now there's just power. HARRY POTTER is very much alive and very ready to fight. DELPHI steps back — full of fury. She lets her torn cloak fall after bringing out the broken Death Eater mask. She places it over her face. There is no question now. DELPHI is The Augurey.

DELPHI unleashes a bolt from her hand. HARRY matches her. The bolts meet in a beautiful explosion in the middle of the room. They both hold firm. HARRY rolls quickly away and slams a spell into her waist and then another. DELPHI is thrown back. She re-enters the fight, hurdling forward acrobatically. They fire bolts mercilessly at each other. HARRY keeps advancing towards DELPHI. He is fighting like we've never seen! And DELPHI is losing! THIS IS THE HARRY POTTER WE'VE ALWAYS KNOWN!

HARRY: I am not Voldemort. I will never be Voldemort.

DELPHI: Rule with me, Harry. All I know is you. All I care about is you. I love you.

HARRY: Open your eyes! They deceived you, Delphi.

DELPHI: But I know your heart. I know what you feel. Don't deny —

HARRY: All I've ever wanted was a family, and you took that away from me!

DELPHI: My only mistake was —

HARRY: Avada Kedavra!

He fires the Killing Curse at DELPHI.

She spins in the air and falls to the dais, her mask rolls away.

The stage is overwhelmed with green light. The auditorium is in complete silence.

A deep hum is heard as HARRY picks up the Death Eater mask. And as he looks down at DELPHI...

She rolls over. She stands beside the archway, looking just as surprised as him.

HARRY: How?

DELPHI (sad): You tried to kill me, Harry?

HARRY: How did you survive?

DELPHI (suddenly furious): You tried to kill me! Avada Kedavra!

HARRY is hit with the Killing Curse. He wobbles back from the impact of the spell but doesn't fall. DELPHI laughs viciously. HARRY looks dazed.

We can't even kill each other! See, Harry? SEE! We — we belong together. It's fate. No magic can separate that! Be with me. And together... we can —

From out of the veil comes an arm in an olive-green velveteen jacket.

HARRY stares in startled disbelief as it wraps around DELPHI's waist.

DELPHI is so taken by the intensity of the moment that she hardly notices.

And then HARRY sees him.

HARRY's eyes spread wide, his face slackens, looking decades younger as he gazes on the face of the man who is stepping out of the archway. It is his godfather, SIRIUS BLACK, long chestnut hair flowing in the wind of the veil, still dressed as he was when HARRY last saw him during the battle of the Department of Mysteries.

Before pulling DELPHI into the hollow emptiness beyond the moldering curtain, SIRIUS looks upon HARRY. And in his soft eyes, there is deep sadness and regret. But most of all, sadness. He mourns for HARRY and all that his godson has endured.

And then, after a very short and clipped scream, DELPHI is gone. And HARRY is left alone on the dais in the Death Chamber.

The deep hum diminishes.

The room goes silent, the lights dim.

The Augurey is dead.
