Chapter 43: Exams with a New Creature

I want everyone to give a big thanks for all the suggestions for the name of memory. It really means a lot to all those who participated and gave great names. While a lot are amazing, I did only chose one (which you'll read) but all of you deserve my thanks for helping me out. It took quite a bit of deliberating into which name I wanted to choose so give yourselves a clap on the back for making me really think about what name I should choose.

I do not own Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban or the Percy Jackson series/characters.

Quotes from book

Mind Talking between Familiar/Bonded

Harry and Neville didn't attentively seek out Sirius Black, but they did keep a look out for Snuffles. Though, they were both prepared in case Snuffles really was Sirius Black.

Using the books they had gotten from Hogsmeade, they learned the Animagus Reveal spell along with off version of Stupefy but for Animagus.

The reason it was important to know the off brand version of Stupefy was because if a person was hit with the normal spell, they could access their magic and change into their Animagus form. Nullifying the affects.

It's why Aurors have Magic Hand-cuffs that have runes on them to smother ones magic and also a set of runes specifically to nullify Animagus changing.

Their cells even have the runes etched in the corners with magic around them to keep them from being damaged. In the case that the person they arrested was an unregistered Animagus.

The reason the books were illegal in Hogwarts was because of a problem where students would try to become Animagus after learning about it. It caused quite a few students to go to the hospital wing. It had even caused one death that Harry knew about. It was that death that caused the books to be in the restricted section and for it to be banned from all students.

It was why Harry was very careful learning about how to turn into an Animagus. He even had an American Witch help him during the summer with the potions and evaluating his magic to make sure it could handle the transitional strain of changing oneself into an animal that reflected themselves.

With the spells at their disposal, Harry and Neville put the books back in Harry's trunk and        kept an eye out for Snuffles.

Which meant the weeks went by rather quickly for Harry and his friends. With no sign of Snuffles and no word about Black attempting to enter the tower once more, exams were quickly upon them.

Harry's first exam was Care of Magical which was to take care of a Flobberworm for an hour. Harry had shrugged at his friends disgruntled looks as he took his, grabbed some shredded lettuce, and let the worms eat it's lettuce on his shoulder while he looked around the lake.

He found a small tree that had many Bowtruckles that hid as he approached. They weren't exactly what drew Harry attention though.

It was the green cocoon along a tree branch that all the Bowtruckles were avoiding. Harry looked at it carefully and saw a blue stripe that curled in the small green spiky cocoon.

The thing that interested Harry the most was the magic coming off the cocoon. It was almost similar to Dementors, the difference was, it was also the complete opposite of Dementors magic.

Interested, Harry thought back to the magical creature books he's read during his first year. He recalled the exact coloring of the creature in front of him from the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

If Harry recalled correctly, this was a swooping evil. It feeds off bad memories, leaving only good behind. It really was the opposite of Dementors.

Harry also knew that if he was going to be doing what he thought, then he should do it quickly before his friends find them and make him leave the Swooping Evil alone.

Glancing behind him, making sure he was alone, Harry lifted the tail of the Swooping Evil of the tree and let it wrap against his pointer finger.

Grinning in accomplishment, Harry felt his magic soothe the Swooping Evil as it realized it had become displaced from the hard wood of the Bowtruckle tree.

Once more looking around, Harry stepped from the tree and carefully darted into the Forbidden Forest, making sure he didn't go too far in.

From there, he pulled his hand with the Swooping Evil out of his pocket, it wouldn't do for anyone to notice him and then notice what was wrapped around his finger.

"Alright, let's give this a go," Harry muttered to himself as he carefully pulled his hand back before flinging the Swooping Evil forward.

Letting the tail uncurl naturally, Harry watched in amazement as the cocoon quickly became a large butterfly like creature with spikes along it's green back. It's face was shaped like a skeletal wolf with only four long canines.

Harry watched it fly in a circle before seeming land on a tree in front of Harry. If Harry could guess, the Swooping Evil looked curious.

"Hello," Harry said as he extended his arm, his magic shifted from him and filled the air with soothing, calm aura.

The Swooping left the branch and settled on Harry's Arm, using it's wings as sort of legs to balance and take off from if it doesn't just unwrap itself from whatever branch it uses.

"I think we could be great friends," Harry said as he Swooping Evil sniffled the Flobberworm on his other shoulder before nuzzling Harry's head.

"I will request you not eat my memories, or those I consider close. The real question is, do you just feed on memories or other things?" Harry asked.

The Swooping Evil seemed to tilt his head slightly before shifting on Harry's arm and flapping through the air.

Harry waited patiently, briefly wondered if it would just disappear on him, before it returned with berries in it's mouth.

"Huh," Harry muttered as the Swooping Evil landed back on his arm and ate the berries it found.

"I would assume that your venom is a combination of grabbing the magic from memories, while making the actual substance from berries," Harry muttered in wonder.

He watched the Swooping Evil finish the berries before taking off into the air again. It circled Harry once before dive bombing him.

Not feeling overly threatened, Harry watched the Swooping Evil in fascination as it's body quickly shrunk. Now, from his extended hand, the Swooping Evil in a cocoon wrapped its tail around Harry's finger again.

"Nice. I think I'll name you Bodhith (thank you the_rising_dragon for the suggestion) which means Enlightened. I'll have to remember to ask dad to get berries though for the Summer," as Harry finished muttering to himself, his watch beeped. Letting him know his hour with the flobberworm was almost up.

Exiting the forest, Harry noted that only his friends really saw that he had disappeared. Neville and Draco had a knowing, exasperated look in their eyes.

From that point, his exams were pretty straightforward.

Transfiguration exam included turning a teapot into a tortoise along with other tasks. Charms was to perform a cheering charm along with a freezing spell. Arithmancy exam was a practical exam where you would be given a list of names and you would have to list what number they were in the specific section they were being asked (character, heart, or social). Ancient Runes was identifying the rune correctly along with explaining its significance.

For potions he had to brew a Confusing Concoction from memory (which he did so easily). Astronomy was just naming the star charts they were given along with an essay on how knowing the stars will help you if you get lost. Then he had to take the Ministry Appointed History of Magic Self-Taught Exam. His Herbology exam was mostly care and maintenance while correctly identifying some of the plants they learned that year.

Defense of the Dark Arts was a practical exam of an obstacle course of dark magical creatures like grindylow (which were excited to see Harry), potholes of Red Caps, ignoring the instructions from Hinkypunk, and then battling a boggart.

His exams for his masteries was battling Flitwick using his knowledge. He would then be scored based upon how he did. His healing mastery was based upon an example of a case and then go about the best diagnosis. While his DADA exam would be based upon how well his students did in their own exams. Admittedly, it would also be compared to how they might've done in other subjects as well (a bad grade in most classes wouldn't affect his mastery, but a bad grade in his class would reflect his mastery).

Harry thought he rather did well in all of his exams, he knew he passed them at least. He felt confident enough in his studies to say that, and that was all that really mattered. If he got a good grade, great, if he just passed, hey at least he passed. Harry wasn't overly worried.

All was going well until he and Neville were walking back from talking to Hagrid about possibly things to teach to the next third years when Neville spotted Scabbers. Ron Weasley's rat that had disappeared near the middle of the year, whom he blamed Crookshanks, Hermione's cat which had been after Scabbers the entire year, even sneaking into the Gryffindor Tower to get him.

That's when the two boys found Snuffles once more, as he dragged Neville under the Whomping Willow, Harry following immediately having been surprised by the abrupt appearance of Snuffles.

Bonus: Percy Against Fudge from Dementors on Quidditch Pitch (based upon ending of Chapter 39: The Haunted Game)

Percy quickly went through his fireplace that was connected to the Floo System. When he had gotten word from Hogwarts from Remus about Harry being affected by the Dementor Attack that happened during the storm that was happening while a Quidditch Match was played.

Entering the Hospital Wing, Percy went into the room and brushed past the Mediwitch. Heading straight for his son, Percy noted how Harry, Luna, and Neville were camped together on an enlarged Medi-bed.

Percy knelt on the side of the bed and ran his hand through Harry's hair. Just looking at his son and his friends, he could see the exhaustion that ran through them.

Harry stirred under his hand, until an eye cracked open. Percy could tell his son's sleep was restless. Before Percy could even greet his son, his son launched himself from the Puppy Pile he was into Percy's arms.

Percy caught him quickly, and felt the silent tears run down his son's cheeks that gathered in the shirt that he had thrown on. Admittedly, he was still in his pajama pants but at least he remembered to throw on a shirt!

"I'm here. It's alright," Percy muttered, knowing his son might not hear him but needed the reassurance none-the-less.

Percy could see Remus in the corner, seeming watching over the three third years. His eyes seemed soft to Percy as he stared at the father and son. A small, thoughtful look on his face before their eyes met and Remus looked away with a soft blush.

Percy shook his head before it started to focus on Remus. His focus should be on his son, he was the only thing that really mattered in his life and he was distraught.

Rubbing his son's back and rocking him in gentle movements, Harry watched the other guardians come and handle their distraught kids.

Though, Percy did note the slight hesitancy that Neville had before his grandma had pulled her grandson in his arms. That's when Neville's tears finally came as he clutched her shirt. It seemed Percy wasn't the only one who was getting ready for bed, if the disheveled look the grandma had was any clue.

It took Percy nearly two hours to really calm his son down, and that was with a calming drought that the school healer had given the three children earlier that evening when they first arrived.

They really calmed down after they were promised Dreamless Sleep Potions for the night. Percy remembered the last time Harry was like this, it was roughly three months after Harry had left the Dursley's when he had been hit with the realization that he wasn't going back to the Dursley family (it was right after their trials).

Though, Percy would admit his son never had as many panic attacks since this night. Apparently, the after-affects of the Dementor were just as bad as the actual presence of the Dementor. Percy thought if Dementors had been in Tartarus when he had been cursed upon, he didn't actually know if he would've made it out of Tartarus.

With his son now asleep, Percy allowed himself to think about something other than the worry he had for his son as his hand ran through Harry's small fringe he was growing (he needed a haircut).

Worry now diminished, Percy realized anger had been steaming just below the surface. He looked from his son with a critical eye, noting that Lady Longbottom and Mr.Lovegood were just getting their child to sleep, Percy looked around and spotted the ministry by the entrance looking out-of-place as he shifted awkwardly from foot to foot.

Catching the others eyes, the Mistister tried to start, "Mr.Jackson, you have my deepest apologizes-"

"Safe it, Pumpkin," Percy said without hesitation as he took in the short, heavy man in front of him, "just answer me this, will the dementors be taken off Hogwarts property?"

"Now, Percy--" Cornelius began.

"I did not, nor will I ever, give you permission to use my name. We are hardly the same age and we both know that in your eyes I am not a citizen under your rule. I am a Muggle, therefore based upon the bills you have placed, deemed beneath you and your blood-purity. Do not act like you think we are on the same level, we are on different ones," Percy said with narrowed eyes. He failed to mention that his level was far higher than the idiot in front of him, "Will. The. Dementors. Be. Removed?" Percy asked with clenched teeth.

The minister seemed uncertain. Before drawing some sort of fake confidence in him. "Now, see here, Mr.Jackson, the Dementors are a crucial part of capturing Sirius Black."

"How?" Percy questioned with anger coursing in his voice. "How are they helping find Black. There is nothing in their actions that suggest they are under your control and have been helpful finding black. He has already been in Hogwarts once, meaning he's gotten past your circle of Dementors. If he's already on the grounds why are they needed encircling the school to keep him out?"

"I agree with Mr.Jackson," said Lady Longbottom smoothly. Under the calm facade, Percy could tell she was just as angry as he was. "They seem to be of no use except tormenting children."

"I think, unless you want it getting out to the press that you seem to reward the Dementors for harming our children, that you better get them off these damn grounds," Percy said smoothly, lightning flashed outside the windows.

The Hogwarts staff jumped, all thinking the storm had passed, except it seemed to have come back if the heavy rain beating against the windows were any implication.

"I-I will t-talk it over wi-with my group. We'll-see about the De-Dementor problem," Fudge stuttered under the angry gaze of three protective guardians.

Fudge hurried out from there quickly after. Percy had to take a deep breath to calm his powers (Which had caused the storm outside to come back just as bad). He had to physically stop his powers from possibly creating an earthquake.

Percy couldn't remember a time he felt as angry as he had been in that moment. He needed to focus on something else. Turning, Percy noted the calculating gaze of Lady Longbottom.

"Wish we could meet under better circumstances. Would you like the Pure-Blood greeting or just a Muggle greeting?" Percy asked with exhaustion in his voice as he rubbed his eyes from the tiredness he felt.

"I suppose we can skip the Pure-Blood greeting," Lady Longbottom said as she examined the boy in front of her.

Because for all he acted, he was a boy in her eyes. She could tell he was younger than 30, but probably older than mid twenties. If she had to guess, he would've been just a few years younger than her son if he had lived. She felt for him, as he still seemed to be getting use to the parenting aspect of having a child. Though, she did feel a bit of pride knowing that he appeared to be doing a great job of it.

"Percy Jackson," Percy said as he stuck his hand out to greet her. Careful to watch her in case she didn't want the Muggle greeting. He didn't mind going the extra mile of a Pure-Blood greeting, but he really didn't feel like moving from his son right now.

"Augusta Longbottom," Neville's grandmother said, as she took his hand carefully and shook it. She didn't know much about Muggle greetings, but she knew enough when her son and daughter-in-law took a trip with the Potters and Lily who was introducing them to some Muggle things.

Percy looked to Luna's father who hadn't participated in the conversation with Fudge much, too focused on his daughter. A sad look in his eyes as he stared at her and brushed some of her hair out of her face.

"Xenophilius Lovegood," Xenophilius said as he finally looked away from his daughters face and gave the other two parents a small smile.

"I think it's time for you to also get some sleep yourselves," the healer (Poppy, Percy recalled) fretted as she entered the room.

Percy looked at his son's face before feeling resolved not to leave for the night. He could tell the other guardians had the same idea along with Poppy who just showed them three beds by their children.

Exhausted, Percy just nodded toward Remus who was leaving from the place he was watching everything happen, before just plopping in the bed and falling asleep. He made sure he kept an ear out for any changes with the children. Something he's learned since Harry first came under his care and didn't want to go to him for nightmares or if he wets the bed (Percy barely lost count of the times he woke during the night to hearing the washer going and having to go and help Harry and tell him it's not his fault and that he can also go to Percy. That he would never be mad with the boy for something he couldn't control.)

With the thoughts of his child on his mind, Percy didn't have a peaceful sleep.

Note for Future of Book:

Relax, I'm still going to be updating relatively regularly (some days it's harder to write more than others). This is more for future books. Sequels and the like. Right now, I have a planned sequel for the book containing the plot of the movies Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them with Harry being the protagonist. Just know, I don't plan of making it into a second version of the book, I just plan on adding a part telling you that you're entering the second book with a description in that part and then restart the Chapter numbering from there. The reason I'm doing this is because the limit for chapters in each book is 200 and that should be enough for this book (since we're on 43 chapters total we should have plenty for the movies (assuming there aren't too many. Idk how many there are suppose to be).

The real thing would come with making a third book primarily on the time before Harry's Hogwarts years but after the Dursley. So, pretty much the fluff and angst of Harry living with Percy and getting adopted and the like. Again, idk if this will happen but it is on the table that I've been playing around with, and I like the idea of. I suppose, it depends on where this book goes and possibly how many chapters I have after the two books that are filling these chapters.
