Chapter 25: Christmas Hols

I do not own Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets or the Percy Jackson series/characters.

Harry shifted in the train excitedly. After the misfortune Lockhart had at the Dueling club, he had let Professor Snape handle most of the one on one training with the students while he just talked about his books.

It was finally Christmas break and Harry really wanted to see his dad again. Spending months away from him was something he was still getting use to, and while he didn't want to be away from the snake that clearly needed his help, spending time with his dad and asking some questions would be nice.

So, Harry was impatiently waiting for the train to finally come to a stop. He had already changed out of his uniform and into a sweatshirt and jeans, the common wear in their family.

Finally, the train had stopped and as soon as the all clear was given, Harry, with his shrunken trunk and Hedwig resting on his arm, he raced from the train to his father, whome he instantly spotted being next to Lucius Malfoy.

The black hair of his father looking like he was Yin while Lucius was Yang. With father and son's eyes meeting, Harry grinned brightly and raced to his father, Hedwig flapping off his shoulder for a moment as Harry put on a burst of speed.

Crashing into his father with his arms wrapped around the man's chest, Percy barely moved as he wrapped his own arms around his son.

"Missed you," Harry muttered softly as he buried his face into his father's chest and smelt the sea mist that was his father's usual scent.

"I missed you too," Percy said slightly amused but with conviction.

After a few seconds of hugging, they finally moved away from each other and Harry turned to the Malfoy couple. "Hello, nice to see you guys too," Harry said excitedly.

"Hello, Sweetie, it's good to see you as well. We know Draco is staying at Hogwarts this year, but we wanted to say goodbye to you before we go on our trip to Italy," Narcissa said softly as she accepted the hug that Harry went for.

"Yeah, I heard he didn't want to take the trip this year. I hope you guys enjoy yourselves. I think Blaise was also staying along with Theo so he should be okay," Harry said trying to make sure the two parents weren't going to worry about their only son.

"Yes, while the timing is unfortunate, we would never force Draco to come with us," Lucius said sadly, worried about his son but knowing he had a good head on his shoulder to know better than to get into trouble.

"I'm sure they'll be fine. We'll miss you for the party," Harry said as he stepped back to his father and, with a final goodbye, watched the couple Portkey away to their Manor in Italy.

"Come on, let's get home. Then you can ask the questions I know you're dying to ask," Percy said as he watched Hedwig land on his shoulder.

Tensing slightly from the owl, Percy barely glanced at the owl on his shoulders and the looks he was getting as he steered his son toward his car so they could get home.

By the time they got home, there was a soft snowfall and the sun was starting to go down over the horizon. "Alright, out with it. What's your questions," Percy asked.

"I have no idea what you mean," Harry said awkwardly and with a small blush, wondering how his father knew he had some questions.

"Son, I've seen you grow up. I know your Question Look. Out with it," Percy said as he shut the car down and the duo (trio if you count Hedwig who instantly went to the warm barn where her nest was).

Harry shifted from foot to foot as he closed the car door. "Well, I suppose the first question would be if you ever heard of a Basilisk."

Percy instantly stopped in his spot and turned to Harry, a sharp, serious expression on his face as he knelt slightly to look Harry in the eyes.

Placing his hands on Harry's shoulders, Percy asked seriously, "What have you gotten yourself into. No lying, remember, it's a two way street, you lie, I also lie."

Harry, reminding himself that his father gets like this when he thinks he might be in danger, replied honestly, "We; as in Blaise, Draco, Neville, Luna, Daphne, and I that is, think that the monster that is petrifying the students of Hogwarts might be either a King or Queen Basilisk. What do you know about them?"

Percy looked serious as he kept his hands on Harry's shoulder and eye-contact was made between them. "As your father I would ask you to never look for the Basilisk if that's the case," Percy said seriously but then his shoulders dropped and he looked resigned, "but I also cannot let you be ignorant. It would only cost you, and I wish more adults were more forthcoming when I was younger and on quests. Alright, this is a talk sitting on the couch. Come on, let's go inside," Percy said as he led Harry inside and they each sat in an armchair facing on another.

Harry leaned forward, excited but knowing this was a serious conversation contained the excitement.

Percy let his elbows rest on his knees as he shifted forward and let his right hand rub against the slight beard that was growing.

"I need a shave," Percy muttered to himself before shaking his head and getting back on task. "Alright, the Basilisk. When I was making trip around the Mythical Cultures and making sure they knew that the Giant War was over, I remember hearing their stories. One of such stories was about the Emperor Basilisks. Think of it like an overall title for the King or Queen Basilisk. Anyway, their gaze can kill all but someone who speaks Parseltongue. It takes a few more seconds for the gaze to kill, but in that time apparently they realize they're speaking to a Speaker and will pull their eyelid down enough if they want to talk. There are no ways to kill a Queen Basilisk from the stories I heard, and King Basilisk can be killed or controlled through Dark Magic and a few other ways that I'm sure you researched. I honestly don't have much knowledge about them, only stories that have been passed down through generations as a Boogeyman sort of story. Was there anything you needed to know that you don't know?" Percy asked leaning back in his chair.

"The books we've read never mentioned their coloring. Do you know how to differentiate between the two?" Harry asked.

"From my understanding, the Queen Basilisk has the coloring between orange and yellow, like in a sunset. While a King Basilisk is a mix between blue and greed. I think they call it French Blue if you want a better color choice. That being said, Harry I want you to promise me that you'll be careful. I've made stupid mistakes in the past that have cost me those close to me, I don't want you to experience it, so just be careful," Percy said with a sigh and drooped shoulders.

Harry went to his father and, after a moment hesitation, curled into his father. "Their deaths weren't on you," he muttered softly. Having grown up with his father and promising no lies between the two, along with the nightmares, Harry knew his father's guilt when it came to his Greek heritage and quests, "they wouldn't want you to blame yourself. But if it makes you feel better, I promise to be careful."

"I love you," Percy said softly as he wrapped his arms Harry and closed his eyes, savoring having his child close to him where he knew he would be the safest.

"I love you too," Harry muttered back as he soaked in his father's love and comfort.

------------------------------------------

After their serious discussion the few days back, the two let the Basilisk topic drop for the time being and continue with their Christmas celebration.

They were actually creating a care package for the small Village that lived in the land further into the forest.

"You sure they have enough Pain Relievers, I don't like them hurting," Harry asked anxiously as he checked over one of the five care packages they were making.

"I'm sure they'll be alright. You know them being together under Boris they will be alright, he makes sure they don't hurt themselves or others.

As they finished the care packages to hand them before nightfall, the fireplace flared green and Percy quickly went over and allowed passage into his home.

From the fireplace, Tom had emerged with Nagini on his shoulders. Instantly, as the dust settled, Nagini lifted her head and shifted her body enough for Harry to catch her and let her wrap around his shoulders.

Instantly, the boy had taken her and started Rambling all about his school adventure so far and anything that might cross his mind, leaving Percy and Tom alone.

"Hey, Tommy," Percy said with a grin knowing his friend hated the nickname.

By the way Tom had done a resigned sigh, Percy the nickname was starting to wear on the man. "Hello, Percy," Tom said with a small huff.

"If you didn't want the nickname said, you shouldn't have come," Percy pointed out.

"You're right. I should leave and not help you prepare for the Party that you have planned for later tonight. What ever shall I do with the free time I have been given," Tom said with no emotion and a raised eyebrow.

Percy dramatically stepped back and let his hands rest on his chest above his heart. "You've wounded me. I'm utterly wounded. However shall I deal with my friend's utter betrayal. Leaving me on Christmas. So, so wounded."

"You ain't shit,"Tom said with slight annoyance, but seeming to try and contain an eye-roll.

"How would you know, I could be wounded. Right here," Percy said as he patted the place above his heart.

"What, you want me to kiss it better?" Tom asked unamused, his Eyebrow of Doom raised.

"Gay," Percy said without hesitation, "but so am I. Nah, I don't see you like that Tommy-boy. We'd make a terrible couple. Think about it, my Sass Level is far too high for someone of your standard to take in and be able to live everyday. I would drown you in Sass," Percy smugly said.

"Yes, it would take someone completely out of their mind to handle your sass," Tom said dryly.

"Or someone who can handle someone out of their mind. Think about it, if someone could handle insane people, they can surely handle me. Right?" Percy asked with a smirk.

"I don't know, maybe they're just out of their mind too."

"Pssh, nah. They would've just grown up with the insane to know better than to become insane themselves, but they've resigned themselves to the insane so while they're not insane, they aren't completely sane either. Catch my drift," Percy asked waiting for the confused look.

"No," Tom said without amusement and watched as Percy's facial expression turned into a pout. "Now, what do you need help with."

"Oh fine, be a Spoil Sport, I wanted your input on the guest list. It's on the counter. I need to finish the desserts and finish the Ham but I think everything else is done."

"Why don't you have House Elves?" Tom asked as he followed Percy from the Living Room toward the Kitchen.

"I've thought about that. But I don't particularly want to head to Knockturn and get mugged before getting one," Percy pointed out.

"Then just ask Lucius to buy one from him. I'm sure there are a few he doesn't want. I know of one off the top of my head. Knowing you, you'd probably get the insane one from him that turns into some loyal workaholic for you," Tom pointed out.

Percy had a thoughtful look on his face. "Not a bad idea, I'll give it some thought," he replied with a small shrug.

The two sat in silence, Tom glancing over the list while Percy continued with the food for the party later that day. While it would be too late to really edit the invitation, they still had enough hours to invite a few more people that Tom saw fit would make good friends with Percy and be alright with a Muggle.

"Why are you inviting the Weasel's?" Tom asked curiously as he finally got to their name.

"Well, from what I heard from Charlie, Molly and Arthur are heading out of the country to visit their oldest in Egypt. So I thought I would invite the other children plus Charlie so they aren't alone for Christmas without their parents. I don't really have an explanation. I know Harry is friends with the twins mostly and Charlie. I'm mostly putting it down to my fatherly instincts saying that it isn't right for them to spend Christmas alone."

"It's not Christmas yet, it's literally a party the day before Christmas."

"Oh shut up and let me help them,"Percy said with a huff.

Tom shrugged and moved the list back onto the counter. "The guest list seems fine. Though you had a question mark next to Argus Filch, why?"

"He's going through a tough time and I told him that I have him down, but if he finds that he cannot make it because he's not emotionally stable than that's alright. Lou had already planned to visit him regardless of if he comes here or not. After she heard what happened to his cat, she was ready to storm Hogwarts and take care of the problem. I managed to convince her not to and instead that it would be better to just be there for Argus. He needs comfort more right now than her fighting something that had petrified his cat and might petrify her."

"Wait, petrify? What do you mean?" Tom asked alarmed as his shoulders tensed.

Percy sent a confused look his way. "You know, petrify. Frozen in a state of immovability. Do you not know what petrify is?"

"I know what it means, what happened that caused a cat to be frozen?" Tom asked through clenched teeth.

Percy shifted uneasy, he hasn't seen Tom like this. Admittedly he came close to when he scolded the man, but even that was more amused tenseness then actual anger.

"Um, apparently Harry, Neville, and Luna were walking back to their dorms when they found Mrs.Norris petrified against the school walls. Beside her was the note: THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS HAS BEEN OPENED. ENEMIES OF THE HEIR, BEWARE. (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 138).

After Percy said that, he watched Tom freeze in his spot. His face falling into no emotion as his eyes held visible anger that he was reeling back.

"It seems I will not be able to make this party after all, Percy. I do apologize but something unforeseeable has come up that needs to be taken care of. Do excuse me," Tom said swiftly before exiting the room.

Percy heard the floo go off before he was able to move from his own frozen spot of shock. Only coming out of it when Harry entered the room confused. "Tom just left, he forgot Nagini."

"Um, I think he wants us to watch her for a few days, think you can handle that?" Percy asked distractedly as his mind raced.

"I think so, I mean, she pretty much looks after herself. But I'll make sure she doesn't get anything she's not suppose to. I'll be outside, Love you!" Harry shouted as he raced outside with Nagini on his shoulders.

"Love you too," Percy muttered feeling confused and conflicted. Part of him wanted to race after Tom, but not knowing where the man was, but also letting him handle the problem that he apparently knew some about.

After shaking off his friend's abrupt departure, Percy continued with the party and somehow managed to get it done without Tom reminding him to keep his mind on the task.

So the party was underway and Percy was finally able to relax. Harry was surrounded by Neville and Draco talking excitedly with Nagini wrapped around his shoulders seeming to be sleeping.

Percy himself was talking to his own friends, Charlie, Severus and Percy's cousin Jason, when Charlie asked him a question, "So, rumor around is that you hate Lockhart. Any particular reason why?"

"Weasley, if you spent a minute in that man's presence you would understand," Severs said dryly as he took a sip from the Fire Whiskey they all had.

"Wait, Lockhart? Like the pompous blond that you talked about?" Jason asked confused.

"How do you know him?" Charlie asked with surprise. He thought that Jason was a Muggle and wouldn't know anyone from the Wizardry World.

"Yeah, wasn't he the guy that tried that one spell. What was it, Obliviate on you?" Jason said while trying to remember where he's heard the name from.

The two wizards froze and stared at Percy in surprise and horror as Percy nodded. "Yeah, he was the guy that tried to Obliviate me after I dealt with a Russian Werewolf problem they were having. Didn't feel like actually talking to the guy afterward, didn't want the spell to actually take if he tried a second time," Percy explained for the two wizards.

"Percy, that's illegal. Why did you never press charges?" Severus asked concerned.

"Because your government is corrupt. They wouldn't believe a Muggle," Percy said with a shrug, not seeing the point about the conversation.

"You're friends with Lucius Malfoy, if you told him what you just told us then he will get a court hearing and Aurors to pay attention to the case. I'm sure it's not just yours if he did try to Obliviate you," Charlie explain with concern.

With all the concern they were showing Percy, he felt awkward and felt the need to change to a different topic. So, after sharing a look of awkwardness and bit of pleading to Jason, his cousin understood what he wanted. "So, can you guys explain more about Wizardry Law. I mean, I'm sure there are protocols you fallow, I admit to being curious."

Severus stared at Percy as he disappeared from the small group, knowing he needed to talk to Lucius and his Lord later about their friend and getting him justice. But it was too much too soon right now, he would let Percy calm down before getting an intervention done so he would agree to press charges.

After their small conversation, Percy felt calm my the end of the night to deliver a toast. Most of his Demigod friends had actually joined this year, mostly his cousins and their close friends, so he raised his glass of Champagne that was brought out earlier. "To a new year, one that will bring new friends and strengthen the bond with the old. To surviving yet another year," Percy finished with a smile and watched as the Demigods (and Harry) repeated the words and clinked glasses with those around.
