Chapter 24: The Talk with Dumbledore

Note: This is a serious chapter and after this the Dumbledore-Bashing Sign is really not needed. This is his sort of redemption chapter that will affect the story for later books and who the Bad Guy really is.

I do not own Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets or the Percy Jackson series/characters.

Underlines - Quotes from the book

After Harry's demonstration against Lockhart, suddenly there were rumors going around Hogwarts that he was the one that was attacking students and petrifying them.

Harry just shook his head at the sheep that were at Hogwarts. He had hoped he had gotten away from them from the mortal world, but it seemed that in a close cult that was the wizardry world it was actually worse.

Instead of stopping and taking selfies in front of fires and people's loss, whether that's a house on fire or a very destructive car crash, like is common in the mortal world; the wizardly world seems to be fond of gossip and drawing conclusions that weren't related.

Apparently, because he could defeat Voldemort as a child, and as a twelve year old beat Lockhart, he was the next Dark Lord of their generation.

For Hades Sake he was twelve! Ah yes; of course, all his thought processes were centered toward world domination and that would start with showing off his abilities and outing just how talented he was.

Gods they would suck as any sort of Lord. First rule of business, keep secrets to yourself and your close nit group that if they betray you, you can kill.

Honestly, Rule 1 in world domination. Amateurs.

Harry threw the newspaper down done by Daily Prophet that showed interviews of Gryffindors and few Ravenclaws that were present when he dueled Lockhart.

Thankfully, it seems Slytherin and Hufflepuff were on his side, apparently loyalty really was strong when it came to Hufflepuffs and Slytherins kinda just followed Draco, Daphne, Theo, and Blaise when they glared at anyone daring to say something about Harry being Dark.

So when the next attack occur, a year mate of his, Justin Finch-Fletchley, Harry knew it would come back to bite him in the arse.

Shaking his head, Harry reluctantly followed Sprout toward the Headmaster's office, apparently having been called down.

'Like this is going to help the rumors spreading,' Harry thought.

They stepped off the stone staircase at the top, and Professor Sprout rapped on the door. It opened silently and they entered. Professor Sprout told Harry to wait and left him there, alone. He figured she was heading back to check on Justin and talk to the house about the loss.

Harry looked around. One thing was certain: of all the teachers' offices Harry had visited so far this year, Dumbledore's was by far the most interesting. If he hadn't been scared out of his wits that he was about to be thrown out of school, he would have been very pleased to have a chance to look around it.

It was a large and beautiful circular room, full of funny little noises. A number of curious silver instruments stood on spindle-legged tables, whirring and emitting little puffs of smoke. The walls were covered with portraits of old headmasters and headmistresses, all of whom were snoozing gently in their frames. There was also an enormous, clawfoot desk, and, sitting on a shelf behind it, a shabby, tattered wizard's hat — the Sorting Hat.

Then a strange, gagging noise behind him made him wheel around. He wasn't alone after all. Standing on a golden perch behind the door was a decrepit-looking bird that resembled a half-plucked turkey. Harry stared at it and the bird looked balefully back, making its gagging noise again. Harry thought it looked very ill. Its eyes were dull and, even as Harry watched, a couple more feathers fell out of its tail. (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 205-206)

Harry approached the bird slowly, making sure the bird could fully see him before holding out his arm for the bird to hop on it if he so wished.

"Near your burning day huh," Harry said softly as he stroke the ill looking feathers as the bird slowly stepped onto his arm.

Harry pushed some of his magic into the bird, allowing it to take what it needed to make the transition smoother and with less pain.

I mean, imagine before force to go from frail old age practically dying to sudden a young bird. Sometimes there were problems, and while they did start to go away depends on the Phoenix's age, Harry had no idea how old the Phoenix was.

Either way, the Phoenix had latched onto his magic softly and did transfer some into itself. Trilling a soft melody, the Phoenix had rubbed it's head against Harry's cheek, making the twelve year old giggle and softly rub the top feathers on the Phoenix's head.

Until it burned and was less of a fledgling, the head would be one of the only safe places to pet the Phoenix, the chest area would be too sensitive as it's organs got ready to burn and be replaced.

Plus, without the feathers it's skin would feel either hot and cold depending on how it's internal homeostasis was.

While Harry continued to calmly pet the Phoenix, Harry noted the door behind Dumbledore's desk open and the Headmaster walked out.

Pausing for a second before smiling gently at Harry and the Phoenix.

"I see you've met Fawkes. Do you know what type of bird he is?" Dumbledore asked gently as he moved to the front of his desk and leaned against it.

"He's a Fire Phoenix, sir," Harry said softly as Fawkes had rubbed his head against his cheek before shifting toward his nest.

Harry easily moved his arm back to the nest and watched as flame's took over Fawkes body until the ashes that were created showed a small fledgling Phoenix.

"It's an honor for Fawkes to sit on your arm, especially in such a state where he could not easily defend himself," Dumbledore said softly as Harry moved from the perch back toward the nest, though he rest on the arm of the chair in front of the desk.

The two sat in their spots for a bit, watching Fawkes settle in his Ash Power to draw powers from it's older form to grow sooner. He could grow without the Ash, but the Ashes of a old Phoenix had growth properties for fledglings and would help Fawkes grow once more.

"You don't really belief I had anything to do with the Petrifications, do you?" Harry asked softly/

"No, I do not. While I have no doubt you have many skills, I do not think you have the spite or anger to harm another student. I've looked into your father," Dumbledore said softly.

"Oh, and what did you learn?" Harry asked with a small tilt of his head.

"He is a good man. Leading not one but two wars against those who wish to take over the world. While what I had learned didn't tell me exactly what he was and how these wars were connected, I know that in his young age no one should underestimate him. And that I fear I should apologize to you, Young Harry," Dumbledore said with a look in his eyes that showed just how old he was.

"I'm sorry to say, Headmaster, I don't know what you should apologize for."

Dumbledore had taken a long steady breath, seeming to actually look old for this moment in time. The twinkle that is usually in his eyes gone, and replaced with sadness and what looked to be self-deprecation.

"With your fame, I should've predicted that you coming to Hogwarts would've brought some sort of trouble. The events from last year regarding the Quidditch Match should have never occurred. A students life should not have been endangered enough that a Portkey home should have been needed. For that, I have failed as my position as Headmaster, and more importantly as a guardian that your parents had entrusted me. Not only to oversee your well-being that I have also failed, but also to help guide you in the craziness of the magical community."

Harry moved from his spot from the chair and stood tall (as much as 12 year old could) in front of the Headmaster and waited for him to make eye-contact. It was a show in the magical community of trust and kinship.

"I forgive you, Albus Dumbledore. While my years at the Dursley's I would rather forget, they have gifted me the most important thing in my life. My father -- who is my best friend, and the person I trust most of with my life--without them, I would have never met him. Everyone makes mistakes, Headmaster, it's if you own up to them that really tells people just who you are."

"You show a large amount of maturity and forgiveness, Harry, for that I must thank you," Dumbledore said softly.

Harry felt a blush running on his cheeks and shrugged his shoulders awkwardly at the praise. "Someone in my family has to be," he tried to joke off.

The Headmaster just shook his head with a smile dancing on his face, when their eyes met once more they were twinkling once more in an emotion Harry now noticed was Happiness and Contentedness.

"I believe I have to extend the Christmas Invitation now," Harry said with a smile.

"Oh no, that's not needed," Dumbledore waved off.

Harry rolled his eyes. "Hogwash, you just earned yourself as family in my eyes. Like I'll let you just be here alone for the Hols. And don't get started on the teachers, we both know that Sprout goes home to her husband, Flitwick does Dueling Tournaments, Snape will end up going to said party, Sprout takes care of the plants at her house, and McGonagall is usually the only one that really stays here for the Holidays. One day, Headmaster, I'm sure one day out of the Castle won't kill you."

"I suppose you have a point, alright, I believe I will go to this Party that you seem to want to drag me to."

"Good, was there anything else, Headmaster?"

"Unless you find out something about the Petrifications, no, that will be all," Dumbledore dismissed.

With a small wave and a smile toward the Headmaster and Fawkes, Harry left the office.

Note: Yes, there is no more Dumbledore bashing. It was never my intentions to begin with. In my opinion, Dumbledore was an idiot in the books, but he did care about Harry. I like to think he would've felt sorry for doing things to Harry in the books. In any case, this is sort of his redemption chapter. He will be more included later, especially when the war picks up. I will say now, Tom is NOT evil/the dark lord. Dumbledore and Tom will be important for when the war picks up, though we still have the third book and then technically the fourth before we really start picking up just who is evil.

Pairing for Percy Note: This is a hint for who Percy's pairing is going to be with, they're from the third book (we haven't mentioned them yet). Which really limits just who I'm talking about but who knows, it could be someone from Tom's side of things.

Pairing for Harry Note: As of now, I still have no idea what I'll do. Part of me wants to do a Harry/Luna; Harry/Neville; or Harry/Luna/Neville. The other part of myself wants to make a new story based upon this one where older, done with the war, Harry accidentally sends himself to an alternate universe where it also happens earlier in time. That book would be based off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and their sequels with a ending pair of Harry/Newt (cause they would be adorable with their animals lets be honest).
