Chapter 17: Babied Plants and An Idiot Professor
I do not own Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets or the Percy Jackson series/characters.
Underlines - Quotes from the book
The day started out relatively normal, and for a place full of magic that was saying something.
Harry woke up earlier than his classmates, and started to stretch before going through certain sword motions that his father had been teaching him for the past few years.
It was something that they both enjoyed, and something Harry started learning after feeling no control over with the Dursley's, his dad thought that a form of control and confidence would be teaching him the skill of using a sword.
So, for the past three years Harry had been learning from his father, and while he didn't do it as consistently last year as he should of, which was shown after he gotten his arse handed to by his father during that summer, he was determined to work on his techniques throughout the year.
After working on his techniques, he stretched once more before grabbing running shoes and an outfit before walking outside the castle and toward the lake. While it was not the path they had in the forest outside their house, Harry figured a few laps around the lake would be good.
So, with being stretched and awake, he started at a soft pace around the lake, not wanting to lose any exercise like he did last year with all the studying he was learning from Hogwarts and the times he was hanging with his friends.
So, figuring waking up an hour or two before breakfast was mandatory would work well with him, he was getting enough sleep and this way he could keep up his exercise and learning.
He also wanted to see how many laps he could do around the half-mile diameter wide Great Lake before he got really tired and his muscles got a good workout in.
After running for nearly 30 minutes, he decided to walk for a bit and allow his muscles relax. As he walked the last few minutes of the lake, with his hands resting behind his head, he watched as the water softly rippled as it was clearly active beneath the surface of the water.
Harry reached out with his magic and felt the Giant Squid that was resting right below the surface of the water, he sent gentle caresses of magic to the squid and felt it respond almost instantly.
Magic that was foreign but kind and welcome caressed his own. Harry closed his eyes and embraced the wild, but tamed magic of the creature of the water. Not noticing the small rock and dip of the surface and felt his foot collide with the rock and felt his balance threaten.
Before he could react, Harry's body fell toward the water and he was submerged. In his panic his mouth opened slightly but no air was released and no water rushed into his mouth.
For a few seconds, Harry's eyes were wide as his mouth opened and closed as no water escaped or entered.
He breathed in with shock and noted that his mouth actually received oxygen. Trying not to panic, Harry pushed himself toward the surface and pulled himself out of the water, only now seeing a teacher rush toward him.
Harry, dripping wet with water as his workout clothes were soaked, watched as Professor McGonagall rushed toward him.
"In all my years! Are you alright? Mr.Jackson-Potter?" she asked as she crouched in front of the boy that only now realized he was shaking from cold as his teeth chattered.
Because while it wasn't quite winter, it was only recently becoming dawn and the water was cold from the previous night.
"J-Just a bi-bit co-cold Pro-Profess-Professor," Harry stuttered out hating how he sounded almost like Quirrell did last year.
"Yes, well, falling into the lake during this time of year will do that to you young man!" McGonagall gave Harry a look that screamed he should've been paying more attention to his surroundings.
"My apologies, I thought a nice swim would wake me up this morning," Harry muttered sarcastically as his professor waved her wand and Harry started to get dry and warmer.
What he didn't count on was his professor's cat-like hearing and was sheepish when she gave him a warning glare. "Sorry, Professor," Harry muttered looking abashed, "I'll try and be more careful next time," he promised.
His teacher narrowed her eyes and looked him up and down, as if trying to see what he might be playing at before sighing softly. "You do that Mr.Jackson-Potter. Now, I believe breakfast is being served, go change and enjoy it with you friends. Try not to get into any more trouble this year," she says looking tired as if she was ready to retire, at least until the Potter family left Hogwarts.
To her it might've seen like it was Potter luck, but Harry was almost 95% sure it was Jackson luck with a dash of Potter luck being the missing 5%.
"I shall, have a good day, Professor," Harry says back and runs back into Hogwarts hopping the day would be quiet and no more accidents would happen.
Oh how wrong he was.
His first lesson was Herbology with Gryffindors. As he walked toward the greenhouses he spotted Professor Sprout walking across the lawn, accompanied by Gilderoy Lockhart. Professor Sprout's arms were full of bandages, as Harry spotted the Whomping Willow in the distance, several of its branches now in slings. (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 89)
Harry's Herbology professor was a squat little witch who wore a patched hate over her flyaway hair; there was usually a large amount of earth on her clothes and fingernails, something that Harry related to when he had to help his dad garden ever now-and-again.(- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 89)
If there was something that Harry actually enjoyed from his time at the Dursley's, it was gardening, and the reason was because it was one of the few times that they would leave him alone and he had the chance to grab a few of the vegetables that were ripe without his aunt knowing so he could actually eat that week.
It was also the time when he could be at peace with himself and a time where the Dursley's weren't looking over his shoulder, the neighbors never glaring at him, and Dudley who knew better than to trample the garden after the one time his aunt had actually caught him and gave him a soft whopping.
Honestly, it was barely a tap but it had Dudley crying his eyes out and promising himself to stay away from the gardens.
As Harry moved to look over at their new Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor, Harry almost felt bad for how Professor Sprout must be feeling, having dealt with the man for what seems to be the entire morning.
Because unlike his herbology professor, Gilderoy Lockhart, however, was immaculate in sweeping robes of turquoise, his golden hair shining under a perfectly positioned turquoise hate with gold trimming.(- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 89)
His liking of the new professor went even downhill after he started talking. "Oh, hello there!" he called, beaming around at the assembled students. "Just been showing Professor Sprout the right way to doctor a Whomping Willow! But I don't want you running away with the idea that I'm better at Herbology than she is! I just happen to have met several of these exotic plants on my travels..." (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 90)
"Really, why don't you go inside it then," Harry interrupted with a perfect smooth voice and watched as the new DADA professor's smile fell slightly before brightening.
"Now lad, I don't think you know this about Whomping Willows but you can't enter any trees," he said and while his tone of voice was bright and seemingly innocent, Harry just heard to nervousness in it.
Raising an unamused eyebrow at the lack of knowledge the new professor had, he shared a look with his herbology professor who had this gleam in her eyes.
"If you've met them so much, professor, then you ought to have known that many Whomping Willows are rather hollow on the inside. And what travels have you encountered Whomping Willows? I would like to know as they are rather rare, are they not?" she questioned, her voice innocent but her eyes gleaming with annoyance and glee at catching the man red-handed.
"Oh, uh, you see-" the DADA professor stumbled before Professor Sprout interrupted, having enough of the fraud.
"Greenhouse three today, chaps!" said Professor Sprout, who was looking distinctly more happy than before as she turned away from the DADA professor. (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 90)
There was a murmur of interest. They had only ever worked in greenhouse one before -- greenhouse three housed far more interesting and dangerous plants. Professor Sprout took a large key from her belt and unlocked the door. Harry caught a whiff of damp earth and fertilizer mingling with the heavy perfume of some giant, umbrella-sized flowers dangling from the ceiling. He was about to follow his friends inside when Lockhart's hand shot out. (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 90)
"Harry! I've been wanting a word -- you don't mind if he's a couple of minutes late, do you, Professor Sprout?" (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 90)
Just before his DADA Professor could drag him away from the group and what seemed to be an interesting lesson, he gave a pleading look with his herbology teacher.
"Actually, Professor Lockhart, I do mind. You have interrupted this lesson enough for one day, I believe you have your own lesson to plan. Do you not? Because last I checked you had not arrived the two days early to set your room up for the first week of class, you might want to make sure you have a lesson plan. Leave my student alone and if I find you interrupting classes another time I will take it to the Headmaster and Deputy Headmistress," she said sternly and we watched as the DADA professor looked surprised before trying to apologize before heading back to the castle.
"Thank you, Professor," Harry muttered as he entered the room behind his fellow Puffs and watched as she tilted her head slightly, to acknowledge the thanks I gave her.
Finally, as they lined up with the Gryffindors, Professor Sprout was standing behind a trestle bench in the center of the greenhouse. About twenty pairs of different-colored earmuffs were lying on the bench. When Harry had taken his place between Susan and Neville, she said, "We'll be repotting Mandrakes today. Now, who can tell me the properties of the Mandrake?" (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 91).
I watched as most of the Gryffindors looked confused, Hermione not being one of those, but I nudged Neville and watched him hesitantly raise his hand in the air.
"Mr.Longbottom?" Professor Sprout asked with a hint of surprise, as normally Neville hated drawing attention to himself. He had certainly gotten better since last year, but there was still part of him that was shy and felt that he shouldn't be at Hogwarts because he was a near squib.
While that was certainly not true, especially after he had gotten a new wand last year, but the mental damage done to him as a child still made him believe the words sometimes that his uncle had always said to him.
"Mandrake, or Mandragora, is a powerful restorative and it is used to return people who have been transfigured or cursed to their original state. It's also very dangerous should no one have any protective earmuffs on as their cry is fatal to anyone who hears it," Neville said uncertain as he had everyone's eyes on him. (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 92)
"Excellent, 20 points for the properties and why they are dangerous. Now, the Mandrakes we have here are still very young." (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 92)
She pointed to a row of deep trays as she spoke, and everyone shuffled forward for a better look. A hundred or so tufty little plants, purplish green in color, were growing there in rows. (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 92)
"Everyone take a pair of earmuffs," said Professor Sprout. (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 92)
Harry watched everyone attempt to grab the non-pink and fluffy earmuffs. He shook their head at their silliness and his eyes looked at the magic that were resonating from all the earmuffs, but already he could feel Hogwarts nudge him toward the pink and fluffy and the reason is because the fluffy would block out even more sound waves from entering his ears. They also had the most strong magic and he knew without a doubt that they could take a few blast of the cry from the Mandrakes before needing to be re-spelled. As Harry grabbed a pair of the pink and fluffy ones, he watched as Neville grabbed on too, not even noticing anyone else as he examined his own pair before giving a small nod and standing back in line beside Harry.
"When I tell you to put them on, make sure your ears are completely covered," said Professor Sprout. "When it is safe to remove them, I will give you the thumbs-up. Right -- earmuffs on." (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 92)
Everyone followed her example and snapped the earmuffs over their ears. Already Harry felt the slight buzz of magic that followed whenever his ears were really close to magical objects. His own magic responded by magic the magic of his own earmuffs stronger before dulling the buzz to a non-noticeable level. All of this happening within seconds as he watched Professor Sprout put the pink, fluffy pair over her own ears, rolled up the sleeves of her robes, grasped one of the tufty plants firmly, and pulled hard. (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 92)
Harry felt himself by being both impressed, and unimpressed with the thing that she pulled out from the plant. Instead of roots, a small, muddy, and extremely ugly baby popped out of the earth. The leaves were growing right out of his head. He had pale green, mottled skin, and was clearly bawling at the top of his lungs. (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 93)
Usually Harry tried to not find anything ugly, but he did wrinkle his nose slightly at the small child plant before shaking his head and dislodging the thought from his head. It was not the plants fault after all, and in any case, it was still rude to think along that way.
With that, Harry watched as Professor Sprout took a large plant pot from under the table and plunged the Mandrake into it, burying him in dark, damp compost until only the tufted leaves were visible. Professor Sprout dusted off her hands, gave them all the thumbs-up, and removed her own earmuffs.(- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 93)
Harry waited a moment to watch her reaction, and after seeing no discomfort in her face and in her magic, followed everyone's examples and took off his own earmuffs.
"As our Mandrakes are only seedlings, their cries won't kill yet," she said calmly as though she'd just done nothing more exciting than water a begonia. "However, they will knock you out for several hours, and as I'm sure none of you want to miss your first day back, make sure your earmuffs are securely in place while you work. I will attract your attention when it is time to pack up. Now then, four to a tray -- there is a large supply of pots here -- compost in the sacks over there -- and be careful of the Venomous Tentacula, it's teething." (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 93)
She gave a sharp slap to a spiky, dark red plant as she spoke, making it draw in the long feelers that had been inching sneakily over her shoulder. (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 93)
Harry had to hide a smile at the affectionate way she looked and handled her plants. It reminded him of his dad and how he handled most sea creatures. With respect and carefulness as he both knew that while they respected him, they were still dangerous creatures most of the time.
With that thought in mind, and keeping his hands on his earmuffs, Harry gestured to Neville about the back right area that had a decent amount of Mandrakes there. He was joined by Susan and her friend Hannah Abbott, who Harry had a slight dislike toward but she never really bothered him. The only reason he even remotely disliked her was because of the way she treated rumors as the truth and thought that whatever the newspaper reported, read Rita Skeeter, was always the truth and never stretched or were out-right lies.
While Harry and Neville diligently worked on getting the compost ready for the baby Mandrakes, Neville was whispering advice to him.
"Treat them like actual babies, they won't want to leave their current pots, but then they won't want to go back into their new pots either. They'll kick, scream, shout, some may even try to bite you. Just don't force them into the pots though because it can damage them." Neville explained.
"Then how do you pot them?" Harry whispered back as he made a hole for the Mandrakes to go in.
"How do you soothe a baby? Some will take soft singing, others soft cradling, just be gentle and patient," Neville explained just before they had to put their earmuffs back on.
With that, Harry found a system of gently digging the Mandrakes out of their current pot before softly singing to them from a Greek lullaby that his dad had used on him when he first was adopted after a nightmare.
The soothing motion of rocking and soft singing calmed the Mandrakes enough to be softly put into their new pots and recovered.
After the first time, Harry got a thumbs up from both Neville and a gentle, proud smile from his professor who was helping some of the other fussy Mandrakes.
It became such a system that after potting nearly 20, Professor Sprout finally got all their attention for them to stop and head to their next class.
Neville and him both got Hufflepuff 20 points each for having the largest amount of Mandrakes potted before they left and trudged toward Transfiguration.
Out of their whole class, Neville and Harry were the least dirty, as most of the dirt was located on their hands and shirts (which they both brought an extra of just in case) they got less dirty looks from Professor McGonagall as they entered Transfiguration.
Both were happy with bringing an extra shirt just because of the fact that they did have a spare minute of going to the bathroom before entering to wash their hands, faces, and change shirts.
"10 points to Hufflepuff for two of their members at least being clean," she said with a slight distasteful look on her face before shaking her head and starting the lesson on transfiguring a beetle into a button.
It took him roughly 15 minutes before accomplishing it, and another 5 to transfigure it back before he was given permission to help Neville who was still having a bit of trouble figuring it out.
"Just imagine what you're trying to make," Harry tried to describe.
"I still don't really get what that means," Neville said hesitantly and slightly sourly.
"Right, so when you look at the beetle, really look at it. Notice the patterns, the coloration, how it moves. Then, when it comes to actually saying the spell and changing the beetle. Image all those things you thought about when you saw the beetle and turn it into a button. And make sure you think about what you want that button to look like, what color, is there any sort of dent in it or is it perfectly round. Transfiguration is all about imagination, it's why some people have a harder time than others, because they lack imagination," Harry finally explained and a look of understanding dawned on Neville's face.
This time, he took a minute to actually observe and look at his beetle before slowly nodding to himself and said the correct incantation and wand movement.
Before both of their eyes, Neville's beetle transfigured into a black button.
"Excellent work, Mr.Longbottom, 5 points to Hufflepuff. Mr.Jackson-Potter, 5 points for helping another student and another 5 for correctly describing Transfiguration and why some have trouble with the subject."
"Man, that's 35 points we got from just one lesson," Neville said shocked, "and it's not even over yet."
Harry himself had his head tilted slightly in thought before glancing at Neville. "The student that gets the most points from now on today wins the use of the bathroom first for showering tonight,"
"Deal," Neville said immediately and both boys rushed toward other students to try and get more points.
Neither noticing how Neville's shyness almost disappeared as his mind set upon the goal of besting the other in order to get the hot water for the shower tonight.
With that, the class passed by smoothly and quickly, with both Hufflepuff boys helping many of the students before being dismissed. They total 15 more points before the lesson having ended, all more favor toward Neville more than Harry, mostly because Harry got stuck trying to explain the work to Ron who was having a more difficult time because of his wand being slightly broken.
After class, Harry and Neville were in a strong discussion about Mandrakes and their proper way to handle them, when Harry finally became aware of someone else in their presence at lunch.
Looking away from his Neville after their intense discussion, he saw the very small, mousy-haired boy he'd seen trying on the Sorting Hat last night staring at Harry as though transfixed. He was clutching what looked like an ordinary Mundane camera, and the moment Harry looked at him, he went bright red.(- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 95)
"All right, Harry? I'm -- I'm Colin Creevey," he said breathlessly, taking a tentative step forward. "I'm in Gryffindor, you see. D'you think -- would it be all right if -- can I have a picture?" he asked raising the camera hopefully.(- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 95)
Harry raised an eyebrow, slightly surprised, because while he knew it was something he might have to deal with being in school, after no one asking him last year he had hopes that it might not occur for the rest of his school year. "A picture?" Harry wanted clarified.
"So I can prove I've met you," said Colin Creevey eagerly, edging further forward. "I know all about you. Everyone's told me. About how you survived when You-Know-Who tried to kill you and how he disappeared and everything and how you've still got a lightning scar on your forehead," (his eyes raked Harry's hairline) "and a boy in my dormitory said if I develop the film in the right potion, the pictures'll move." Colin drew a great shuddering breath of excitement and said, "It's amazing here, isn't it? I never knew all the odd stuff I could do was magic till I got the letter from Hogwarts. My dad's a milkman, he couldn't believe it either. SO I'm taking loads of pictures to send home to him. And it'd be really good if I had one of you" -- he looked imploringly at Harry -- "maybe your friend could take it and I could stand next to you? And then, could you sign it?" (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 95).
Harry had to take this all in very fast and felt himself innerly frown. While he and his dad had talked about what to do should someone ask for a picture or an autograph, it was ultimately his decision should he do anything.
"Colin, can I explain a few things before any picture might be taken," Harry asked gently and watched as the first year nodded very fast. "I will give you one picture and one autograph, and hear me out on why. I'm here to learn magic just as you are, and there are a lot of things that some people might tell you about me, but let me tell you now. Not all of them are true," Harry said seriously and watched as the first years eyes went slightly wide at the tone before he followed Harry's example. Watching him seriously and actually paying attention to the hero of his eyes.
"Yes, I once had a lightning bolt on my forehead, but that has been long taken care of. Yes, You-Know-Who, or Voldemort as his actual Dark Lord name, visited me the night he died, but it was my mother that killed him. Not me, alright," Harry asked gently and watched as the first year nodded.
"Now, the picture I am willing to take with you will have my friend in it, I don't want only pictures of me seeming to be cocky or hubris. I want a picture of me, enjoying Hogwarts with my friends. And when I sign, I want my friend and yourself to sign it too. Alright?" Harry asked and watched as a soft smile appeared on Colin Creevey's face.
"I understand. Sorry about rushing and being so excited. It's not everyday you met a celebrity," he explained with a light blush.
Harry gave the boy a grin, "Just remember they are also human, deal?" Harry asked as he held out his hand for a hand-shake.
"Deal!" Colin replied back with excitement and gave the handshake back. "So, how is the picture to be taken?"
"With a little magic," Harry replied with a wink. With that he performed Wingardium Leviosa and watched as the camera floated in front of them.
"Cool!" Colin said with excitement as Harry gestured for him to get between him and Neville. Neville, going along with the plan, smiled kindly at the excitement of the first year and smiled at the camera as Harry manipulated his magic and had it press the button for a picture.
Colin gave a bright smile as he retrieved the photo and told the two of them he'd be back by dinner with the developed photo for them to sign.
"That was nice of you," Neville commented with a grin.
"Yeah, well, once word gets out I'm dragging you into more photos," Harry jokingly said.
"Well, what's dorm-mates for?" Neville replied sharing the grin.
With that, both of the second years went to their first DADA lesson of the year. "Oh, have you thought of a lesson plan for the first years?" Neville asked.
"Actually, yes. I was thinking of going over some sort of syllabus before going over what types of monsters might be in the forbidden forest and what to watch out for, and while on certain monsters go over how to defeat them and what spells work against them. That way, they learn about what they should be aware of and if they ever run into them what to do. It should keep them out of the forest, but just in case they don't heed the caution, they know how to defend themselves," Harry explained in one long winded breath.
"You thought a lot about this haven't you?" Neville asked
Harry nodded as they took their seats, "See the table in the back, that's suppose to me my desk for the first years," Harry pointed toward the elongated desk similar to the one in front of the room with a filing cabinet next to it that was charmed specifically for Harry's magic.
"Not bad, what about the follow of years assuming you continue teaching?" Neville asked.
"The Headmaster and Professor McGonagall were talking and said that if I liked doing this then they would get an extended room connected to this one for my own office. Which is really weird to think about," Harry explained having thought and discussed this topic many of times with the Headmaster and Deputy of the school a lot over the summer.
Neville was about to talk before noticing that the whole class was there and Lockhart was at the front of the room and decided to see how this lesson will go. When the whole class was seated, Lockhart cleared his throat loudly and silence fell. He reached forward, picked up Neville Longbottom's copy of Travels with Trolls, and held it up to show his own, winking portrait on the front. (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 99).
"Me," he said pointing at it and winking as well. "Gilderoy Lockhart, Order of Merlin, Third Class, Honorary Member of the Dark Force Defense League, and five-time winner of Witch Weekly's Most-Charming-Smile Aware -- but I don't talk about that. I didn't get rid of the Bandon Banshee by smiling at her!" (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 99).
He waited for them to laugh; a few people smiled weakly. "I see you've all bought a complete set of my books -- well done. I thought we'd start today with a little quiz. Nothing to worry about --just check how well you've read them, how much you've taken in --" When he had handed out the test papers he returned to the front of the class and said, "you have thirty minutes -- start -- now!" (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 99).
Harry looked down at his paper and read: (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 99).
1. What is Gilderoy Lockhart's favorite color?
2. What is Gilderoy Lockhart's secret ambition?
3. What, in your opinion, is Gilderoy Lockhart's greatest achievement to date?
Harry immediately frowned and flipped to the back and saw:
54. When is Gilderoy Lockhart's birthday, and what would his idea gift be? (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 100).
Feeling disgusted with his teacher, he decided to screw with the man and answered:
1. Red because it means danger and warning, and we all know you love pulling children with you on the camera without permission
2. Being a liar and putting children in front of cameras without child or adult permission
3. Manipulating a whole community into giving you an Order of Merlin while secretly obliviating the people that actually do the deeds you write about and give yourself credit for.
All the way through the book for 30 minutes of just bullshitting the answers while rubbing in his face that he was a fraud, he himself knew he was a fraud, and that he implied he was a pedophile.
Honestly, for horrible tests, Harry was actually having fun if the sadistic look in his eye was any indication for anyone that might've been looking at him throughout the test.
With time up and all the tests being collected, Harry waited to be the last one to turn theirs in and felt a smirk on his face as Lockhart placed his on top and immediately skimmed through it.
He cleared his throat awkwardly as he paled and tugged slightly at his collar of his shirt. "Uh, I will, uh, hand these back tomorrow for you all to see how you did," he stumbled slightly before putting on a dazzlingly smile that charmed most of the female.
He bent down behind his desk and lifted a large, covered cage onto it. (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 101)
"Now -- be warned! It is my job to arm you against the foulest creatures known to wizardkind! You may find yourselves facing your worst fears in this room. Know only that no harm can befall you whilst I am here. All I ask is that you remain calm." (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 101)
In spite of himself, Harry leaned forward against his desk for a better look at the cage. Lockhart placed a hand on the cover. Dean and Seamus from Gryffindor had stopped laughing now and Neville was looking uncertain at the cage. (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 101)
"I must ask you not to scream, "said Lockhart in a low voice. "It might provoke them." As the whole class held their breath, Lockhart whipped off the cover. (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 101)
"Yes," he said dramatically, "Freshly caught Cornish pixies."(- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 101)
Seamus Finnigan couldn't control himself. He let out a snort of laughter that even Lockhart couldn't mistake for a scream of terror. (- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Page 101)
Harry himself had tilted his head as he glanced at the electric blue pixies that were in the cage moving all about, trying to get out of the cage, but always glaring at the Professor.
"They're cute," he said almost absent mindfully and received Neville's disbelief in return with a few other students giving him weird look.
Though as he said that, he noted two of the pixies straightened up and glanced at him, their eyes were mischievous like the other pixies but held curiosity. He sent a spark of his own magic and watched as the two went wide eyes with excitement and felt childish magic flow back toward him and gave them a smile in return.
"No, Harry," Neville said slowly, like almost following where Harry's head currently was.
In return, Harry pouted but continued to send playful sparks of magic toward the two pixies and felt childish magic return back to him, as if they were poking one another and waiting to see which one would stop before the other.
With that being said, as soon as Harry saw what the Professor was about to do, he started shoving his things into his bag and got ready to book it, Neville instantly followed his example.
Prepared to dash, Harry was practically out the door when the Professor opened the Pixie cage and released them. Harry briefly saw them pick up some Gryffindor and the Professor fail a spell before he and Neville were out the door and halfway down the hall.
Which meant he was halfway down the hall before he noticed extra weight in the front pocket of his robes. So, keeping in mind the screams from the DADA room, Harry carefully opened the front of his pocket and saw the two pixies he was sending magic toward.
"Well hello," Harry said pleasant and heard them chirp in reply. It was far from the shrill they listened to while they were in the cage, but rather high pitched soothing voice like they were actually communicating instead of the screaming in rage as they were in the cage.
Neville stopped when he heard Harry and withheld a groan as he spotted the two pixies. "Harry," said with a sigh and an exasperated look.
Harry sent him an innocent look before glancing at the two pixies. "Don't prank anyone without my permission, don't mess with my house, and you get to stay with me and Neville," he brokered and watched as the two seemed to be speaking with each other before glancing up at him and nodding in agreement to the terms.
All the while Neville groaned and hid his face in his hands while muttered, "Is this going to happen each year?" to himself.
"I think I'll call you Neptune," you told the darker electrike blue pixie that was just a few inches taller than the other one.
"And you, Uranus ("oo-RON-ohs") , after the Greek God and technically the planet as well. Shall we head back to the dorms, Neville?" Harry asked his roommate who looked resigned.
"Oh alright, but you're taking care of them and taking blame if they get caught," Neville muttered as they went back toward the dorms. This time with two new pets of Harry's.
Right, that was over 6000 words, hope this met the standards and I hope you guys enjoyed this!
