:: Chapter 31 :: Pink Toad

When school started, Harry found himself alone in a compartment as Hermione went to find Neville and Luna. Through out all of summer, he and the rest found themselves with no letters what so ever from any other of their friends.

As Harry was staring out at the bustling people on Red Cross station-or at least at their little hidden spot inside the train station where only those who knew about 9 3/4's bustled around. The doors opened to find a red head, and not one he was expecting. Or hoping for-the twins were who he was hoping for. But instead it was their younger brother Ron Weasley.

They stared at each other for a moment before Ron opened up his mouth. "You don't mind if I sit here do you?" He asks softly.

Harry tilted his head slightly then shrugged. He barely had seen Ron much last year, and from what he heard he had been a lot calmer and was actually passing some of his classes enough so to continue onto the next year. "Sure, do what you want."

"You alright?" Ron asked after a few seconds passed and he had settled into the compartment.

"I'm okay." Harry responded without looking but looked over to see Ron as he snorted and rolled his eyes. "What?"

Ron's baby blue eyes turned to him and folded his arms. "You're obviously not. Your not as tan as you usually are, which is a big deal actually considering you were pretty pale-tan before. Makes you look like Professor Snape, but you seem sad. You're eyes-they aren't as alive I suppose."

Staring at the red headed boy, who went from skinny to a more taller broader male, and if he kept up and worked for it, could very well be another Charlie of his family. "Right-since when have you taken notice of me Ronald?" He teased.

Ron blushed a bright red before he shook his head. "Way to deflect Hadrian."

His lips upturned to a small smile as his eyes went back towards the outside the train moving once more-knowing that wasn't his name, but he'll let the boy think that for now. "Right."

"I know I'm not someone you know or probably don't even like, but if you need anything you can talk to me. Though I do have to warn you I'm not good at advice." Harry snorted this time. "But most of all I believe you...about everything. You're not one to lie about that sort of stuff."

Now Harry's eyes were really looking at Ron, the boy really had matured since their first year. He was a lot calmer in magic and mind. Harry's smile that came onto his face made Ron smile back. "Thanks Weasley."

"No problem Jackson." Ron smirked, and sat back to enjoy the ride to school.

About an hour in, the door opened to their compartment as they were playing exploding snap. Both winning or losing a card game. Harry smiled up at Hermiones dread filled face. Neville and Luna right behind her.

"What?" Hermione asked, that's all she could get out in her shock. Which she had a right to be considering Ron had practically ruined most of her first year of Hogwarts.

Rolling his eyes he beckons them in as he places down another card. Ron not seeming to care for Hermiones staring. "Hurry in before the cart lady comes through. I want lots of candy today."

"Ooo, I love chocolate frogs, you?" Ron asks as he sets another card and it snapped at Harry.

"This is weird." Neville spoke next to Hermione, while all she did was nod.

Throughout the ride to school the three got to know Ron, and Ron was a lot nicer then before. Grown up a bit in Hermione's opinion. But otherwise they all got along. When the cart came by Harry bought as many chocolate frogs and other candies and they all shared-Ron was quite shocked that they shared with him but otherwise it happened.

When they got to Hogwarts they had to seperate. But when Harry tried to sit at the Slytherin table-it so happened that it was full of people made it that way. He looked at his housemates. Some wouldn't look at him and others glared at him. That's when Harry realized something big.

Most of Slytherin were pure bloods and or from a family that served Voldermort allegedly.

He looked to his dad, who just tilted his head to Hermione and Neville who were watching. As he walked to the Hufflepuff table, his eyes caught blue. Emotionless. A mask so perfectly in place-he feared it wasn't a mask at all.

This hurt Harry as he sat between a worried Hermione and Neville, Cedric coming over and patting the boy on the back in what he could give as comfort all the while glaring at the Slytherin table. He wanted to cry but couldn't. He feared what would happen if he did in front of the student body.

Harry ignored most of what Dumbledore said-but found a fake cough interrupting him towards the middle, it was grossly high pitched. His eyes turned to find a round short woman with a scrunched face, curled hair and eyes that spoke all different things as it looked around the student body. Instantly-almost instinctive-Harry hated her. She looked like a pink toad. When he told his friends they had to hold in a laugh.

She went on to say she was the new DADA teacher since Moody was incapacitated at the moment-and probably wouldn't come back with the curse on that position.

He ignored her speech as he let his eyes roam and find a blue pair and nearly snorted as they were making faces at him. He felt better to know he still had some friends. That he had the Twins. He shuddered to think if he didn't make friends from other houses, what would have happened earlier when they wouldn't let him sit at his own?

When food appeared he ate, not even turning his food blue. But at least he talked with Hermione and Neville as they blabbered about school classes and mainly about the Owls from a worried Hermione.

When it came to be later, most had finished and left for the dorms. Harry was waiting for his Dad.

Percy was glaring at Severus who he had to sit next to-much to boths ire at that moment. "Really? The silent game? Didn't we play this the first year, and you know I'm stubborn." Percy glared heatedly as he had caught Snape a bit aways to speak somewhat privately.

Snape sneered at him. "Just drop it and leave me alone. I don't want to be friends anymore with the likes of you."

"The likes of me? From what I know I'm quite better then most of your friends-seeing as I am your only friend." Percy rolled his eyes but stopped when he found Snape turning again.

"We aren't friends Jackson. Now stay out of my way." He sneers, turns dramatically his robes flaring as he walked out.

Percy was shocked. And a bit hurt. Biting his inner cheek he turned and met eyes with Harry's. They both mirrored each other. Hurt and confused. Lost.

Smiling he walked over and wrapped a hand around his shoulder. "Let's go Harry, you'll be staying in my rooms for the year I suppose." His voice was quiet but Harry heard and looked up at his father.

"Are you going to be okay?" Harry asks seeing his father looking like him with the whole bipolar whiplash of what their friends had been doing.

"I'm supposed to be asking you that." He rolled his eyes and the two laughed. "But yes, I'll be fine, how about you?"

"I should be okay..." Harry spoke, ignoring the burning in his throat. The nausea that came with making him wish he hadn't eaten anything.

Sighing Percy hugged Harry, who was starting to reach past his shoulders. At least in hair fluff. "It'll be okay. I love you Harry."

Nodding with a shimmer in his eyes, Harry smiled up at his dad. "I love you to."

With that, 5th year started.
