Under the Mistletoe
It was a cold Monday morning as you were woken up by someone moving next to you. Reaching out beside you, you let out a groan when you didn't feel the familiar warmth next to you.
"I have to get up for work, Love." You heard Harrison chuckle from somewhere across the room.
"Fuck your work." You mumbled as you felt yourself drift back off into a deep slumber just seconds before Harrison placed a soft kiss on your forehead before leaving for the bathroom to get ready for his day.
This was your usual morning routine, Harrison getting up before you to leave for work - that is if he was home - while you were able to sleep in since your classes didn't start until later in the day.
You had been living with the two boys now for about one and a half years and it's been the best time of your life but also the loneliest. Tom was always gone and only home every now and then and Harrison was working hard to make his way up to the top, often leaving early in the morning and getting home late.
Of course you were incredibly proud of your two best friends, but you were also looking forward to the holidays. Tom would come home from Brazil later that day, Harrison would be done with his project in a week from now on and you didn't have any lectures until next year.
The thing with spending time with Harrison was that you didn't only like him as your best friend. You liked him so much more and you could only hope that maybe one day he would too. With him being super busy and your lectures ending at some time in the evening, you didn't get to spent a lot of time with him which made you appreciate your nights even more.
The two of you had developed that habit of watching a movie before going to bed and it somehow turned into you just staying the night in his bed - and also his arms - so you would at least be able to spend the night time together.
There had been nights where either of you refused to fall asleep before 1am, simply because it would mean that you didn't have enough time to talk about your day or talk about what was bothering you.
Harrison was great. You knew the minute you first saw him that there was no way that you wouldn't fall for him somewhere down the line. The way his eyes crinkled whenever he smiled at you and the way he looked at you had you crush on him the minute he introduced himself as Tom's mate.
It was only three years ago that you met and it already felt like a lifetime ago. Back then, Harrison was in a relationship and so were you, and yet, you still couldn't stop thinking about the blonde, making you the reason your last relationship failed after only three weeks of knowing Harrison.
It was two years ago that Harrison broke up with his girlfriend without telling you the reason why he did it. He had told you that it didn't work out anymore but something inside of you was telling you that this was only half of the story.
It was only a year ago that you realized that you were madly in love with Harrison. That you couldn't stop thinking about being more than just his friend, more than just his roommate and more than just the girl who was also Tom's friend. You felt yourself craving his touches whenever you were standing next to him while talking to your other friends, you craved his hugs whenever life seemed to go to shit and you craved the feeling of his lips on top of yours whenever you looked at them for a second too long.
The worst part was that you knew how his lips felt on top of your own. You knew how right it had felt when you kissed at Tom's birthday a few months ago after too many drinks. You had shared a few kisses at the party before turning it into a full make out session once you had gotten home. That had been the first night you spent in the boy's bed, not knowing that come tomorrow, you would never speak of it again.
That was the moment you knew that he didn't feel the same. If he did, you would have talked about it, right? You maybe would've admitted your feelings for each other and ended up together, right? But you did neither of those, because maybe this was just a stupid crush you had and the right one was still somewhere out there and not right next to you.
You got out of bed at 11am as you put on some Christmas music before starting to clean the flat. You knew the boy's were too busy to do most of the cleaning, but you were happy to do it since you needed something to do until Tom got home.
The boy's flight was supposed to land at 2pm, giving you enough time to do your Christmas cleaning. Noticing that you didn't have any decorations, you made a mental note to ask Tom to pick up some stuff with you tomorrow.
You put on a Christmas movie as you settled down on the couch with a cup of tea in your hand. You loved Christmas, mostly because it meant that your boys were home and Tom was just Tom and not Spider-Man and Harrison was just Harrison and not this incredibly busy - and good looking - Model/Actor, but also because it was finally time for your traditional baking session before you went off to your families for Christmas Eve.
Hearing the familiar sound of keys sliding into the lock on your front door, you checked the time to see that it was half past three, making your lips spread into a smile before getting up to greet your famous roommate.
"Honey, I'm home." Tom chuckled as he saw you make your way towards him.
"Welcome home." You laughed as you were pulled into a hug by the brunette.
"I see, you managed to clean up Harrison's dirt." Tom grinned as he followed you into the living room, "I already told you like five hundred times to let the boy do the cleaning himself."
"Needed something to do while I was waiting for one of you to get home." You shrugged as you sat back down on the couch.
"When's Haz coming back?"
"No idea, could be 5pm, could be 7pm, but could also be 10pm."
"Damn, I was hoping we could get our Christmas tree today." Tom grinned at you as he saw your eyes light up.
"Yes! Fuck Harrison, we're getting a Christmas tree today! Also we need Christmas decoration, I don't know where last years decoration ended up." You smiled as you shot up from the sofa to put on appropriate clothing to leave the house.
"On a second note, maybe we should wait for Harrison. He's so much better at doing that stuff with you than I am." Tom grinned when he saw how excited you were.
"Too late, Thomas. You're the one who decided to show up first." You laughed as you pushed him out the front door, "You're not too tired or jet lagged, are you?"
"Even if I was, it's already too late isn't it?"
"Yeah, I was just trying to be nice." You grinned as you hopped into the passenger seat of Tom's car. You decided to pick up the tree before looking for the rest of the Christmas stuff you needed.
"Harrison's going to be pissed. He loves doing that couple stuff with you." Tom grinned as he jokingly tried to push you into one of the racks with the baubles on them.
"You're so funny." You rolled your eyes before focussing back on the baubles.
"I was actually telling nothing but the truth." Tom could only speculate about your feeling's for each other, but he was pretty sure that you wanted be with Harrison as much as Harrison wanted to be with you.
"You know as much as I do that Harrison and I are not a couple." You said as you placed a couple of red and blue baubles in the cart that Tom was pushing.
"Is this a Spider-Man reference? Because if so, then I want you to marry me." Tom laughed, "And you may not officially be a couple but-"
"Yes. That is a Spider-Man reference." You interrupted him because you knew where this conversation was going.
"You interrupted me."
"You were talking nonsense." You scoffed as you went looking for even more stuff to put on that tree.
"No, you are just incredibly stupid. Both of you." Tom laughed as he followed you to wherever you were going.
"What kind of light do we want? I was thinking these would look nice?" You said as you decided to ignore Tom's Harrison talk from now on.
"Are you serious right now?"
"Yeah, I mean, why wouldn't they look good?" You said as you saw Tom furrow his eyebrows.
"You're both so frustrating, I swear. You need a good smack on the head."
The rest of the shopping went smoothly as Tom realised there was no way he way going to get you to confess to him and that he needed a few other methods to get the two of you together after watching you pine after each other for about two years now.
Arriving at home, you saw that the lights were on, meaning that Harrison was home already. Unlocking the front door to get the blonde to help you carry your stuff inside, you were greeted by Harry and Harrison arguing about something.
"Time to shut up." Harrison hushed when he saw you walk inside with a couple of bags in your hands, "Where have you been?" The boy laughed as he got up to take the bags from you after greeting you with a kiss on your cheek.
"Now I know why I got Harrison to do that with you last year." Tom groaned as he carried the tree inside.
"You bought a tree without me?" Harrison pouted as he looked at you.
"Told you he'd be pissed." Tom laughed as he put down the tree before going out again to get the rest of the bags, Harry following him outside to help.
"You were busy and I wanted it to look like Christmas as soon as possible." You said apologetically as Harrison still looked at you with a pout displayed in his lips.
"But I wanted to get a tree with you."
"Next year?" Smiling, you wrapped your arms around the boy, hoping he would stop being such a drama queen.
"What if there's no next year?"
"What on earth are you talking about?" You laughed as you shook your head at the boy who was currently acting like a three year old.
"Yeah, I don't know." Harrison said as he let out a laugh.
"Oi, you two idiots, care to help as well or are you too busy loving each other?" Harry shouted as you turned around to see him carry in like five bags at the same time.
"You know you don't have to carry all of them at the same time?" Harrison laughed as he wrapped his arms around you to place his chin on your shoulder.
"You know I don't have to carry any of them at all, right?" Harry raised his eyebrow as he was probably debating on whether or not to let everything drop to the floor right where he was standing but being a smart kid, he decided against it.
"That's the last one. Thanks for helping, mate." Tom said as he looked at Harrison, a fake disappointment showing on his face just to be told that "Harry had it all under control."
"I will fight you, kid." Harry threatened as you started laughing.
"Your mum told me I couldn't fight you since she couldn't be bothered to visit you in the hospital. Too much of an effort for the dumbest in the family." Harrison shot back.
"Oh please, your mum told me she'd love to visit you in the hospital because it would stop you from going home to steal all the food and that it would be her call to decide when she wants to see you." Harry laughed as he sat down on the couch while Tom could only shake his head
This was where you felt the happiest - in Harrison's arms as he was bickering back and forth with Harry while Tom did all the dirty work with putting the tree in the right place.
The next three days were spent decorating the flat while Harrison was still busy working the whole day meaning that you spent most of your time with Tom since he didn't have any plans while he was home except for finally getting enough sleep.
"Do you have all your presents?" Tom asked as he held up the window lights for you so you could fixate them in the right place.
"Still need Harrison's, but I have the rest, you?"
"I've got all of them." The boy smiled as he was way too proud of himself for not having to go out on the 23rd to get his Christmas shopping done.
"Damn, someone is acting all grown up."
"I basically just gave all my money to Sam and told him to get everyone what they wanted and then I gave Harrison money for your present and Harry is going to buy Sam's, but I'll take the compliment." Tom grinned.
"I should have known." You laughed as you smacked him on the back of his head.
"What are you going to get for Harrison?" Tom asked as he let go of the lights to see if you did a good job in fixating them.
"I have no idea." You groaned as you stepped back to admire your work, "This looks amazing."
"I was sceptical, but yeah it does look good." Tom laughed as he held up his hand for a high-five, "I have an idea what you could get Harrison."
"Is this a serious idea or is this an idea that makes me want to kill you?" You asked, already knowing that there was no way that this was a serious idea.
"Uhm, it is a serious idea, but you'll also want to kill me for it, I think." Tom laughed as he stepped back as if he needed a quick start to get away from you after telling you the idea.
"Why are you stepping back?" You asked as you narrowed your eyes at the brunette who was already taking off towards his room, immediately closing the door behind him.
"Be his present, like you know, you in his room, when he comes back from his family... I'll still be gone and you-" The boy shouted through the door as you knocked on the door, ready to destroy him.
"Open the fucking door and I'll rip your head off."
"Just you and him! It'll be the best present you can get him, believe me." You heard Tom laugh from behind the door.
"I swear, you're so fucking lucky that your behind that door, but you'll come out sooner or later." You groaned before you heard the front door open, telling you that Harrison was home.
"It's a great present! He'll love it! Promise!" Tom shouted again making you wish he would just shut up for once in his damn life.
"Who'll love what?" Harrison laughed as he appeared next to you, "What are you guys up to?"
"Nothing. You'll love nothing." You groaned as you walked past him to plop down on the couch in the living room.
"Wait-" Harrison laughed as he followed you towards where you were headed, "Were you talking about me? What will I love?" He asked as he sat down next to you where you refused to give him an answer.
"I just gave her a great idea what to get you for Christmas or maybe you could give it to him right now." You heard Tom say as he stood behind the two of you with a grin on his face.
"I'll kill you." You tried to get up from your seat on the couch but Harrison held you back by pulling you into his side to keep you from killing his best mate.
"Stop it with the death threats." The blonde laughed before looking at Tom was pointing to where he was holding up something above you.
A fucking mistletoe.
Closing your eyes you tried to make the ground underneath you open up because you were either going to faint because of the embarrassment that was Tom Holland himself or because you were not allowed to beat the kid's ass.
"Count your days, Thomas. Count y-" You threatened before you were cut off by someone's lips colliding with yours.
The familiar feeling of those lips immediately let you forget about everything that had just happened. You didn't want to kill Tom anymore, maybe hurt him a little, but feeling Harrison's lips on top of your own made you forget about Tom being there in the first place as your hand went up to pull the boy even closer to you.
This felt so right. This felt like the first time you had kissed and it showed you how much you wanted to be more than just Harrison's friend, how much you wanted to kiss his lips everyday and how much you wanted Harrison to feel the same.
"No one's killing anyone today." Harrison mumbled against your lips as he placed another soft kiss on them before slowly pulling away.
"Why'd you do that?" You mumbled as you finally opened your eyes to see Harrison looking at you with a smile on his face, Tom long gone, probably for his own safety.
"I mean, it's a mistletoe. I had to, didn't I?" He smiled as you felt your heart sink.
"Yeah, of course, because you had to. Right, mistletoe." You cleared your throat as you got up from your place on the couch to make your way to your room.
"Wait, I-I shouldn't have done that, I-I'm uh, I'm sorry?" Harrison sprinted after you, scared that he had ruined a perfectly fine friendship with a stupid kiss, "I should've known you wouldn't want to kiss me again and it wasn't my call to just do it a-and I'll tell Tom to stop with whatever he's planning."
"N-No, it's fi- wait what?" You turned around after realising that he said that he knew you didn't want to kiss him again.
"I'm sorry?" Harrison's eyes widened when he realised what he had said as he scratched the back of his neck as a faint tint appeared on his face.
"Why would you think that I didn't want to kiss you again?" You whispered, not even knowing if he had heard you.
"B-because we never talked about what had happened after Tom's birthday and, uh, I figured you didn't want to talk about it and that you realised that it was a mistake."
"You didn't talk about it either." You said as you looked into his eyes for the first time since that kiss a few minutes ago, "I-I didn't want to ruin our friendship because of that kiss, so I decided not to speak about it again."
"I don't think that kiss ruined our friendship, do you?" He asked as you shook your head, "All I know is that it ruined everyone else for me." He softly smiled as he stepped forward to take your hand.
"W-What?"
"Fuck, I'm so in love with you, it's ridiculous and I'm probably taking a fucking big risk right now by jumping into the deep end, but I knew I had to kiss you again and when Tom kind of gave me the perfect opportunity to do so, I didn't think about how you would feel about it." Harrison said as you stood there, not really knowing if you were currently hallucinating or if Harrison had really just told you that he was in love with you, "Please say something."
"I-I, you're what?"
"It's fine that you don't feel the same and all that, I-I just had to tell you and I'll probably give you some space right now, because everything else would probably be hella awkward if you don't feel the same and uh, yeah, just, I don't know, knock on my door if you want to talk about it?" His smiled didn't reach his eyes as it usually did. You knew he hadn't expected you to tell him that you were in love with him as well, but he had at least expected some kind of reaction from you.
It wasn't like you weren't totally head over heels in love with Harrison, it was more like you were too shocked to say anything. You watched Harrison slowly backing away as he let go of your hand, making reality hit you in the face as your brain finally understood what had just happened.
"I swear, (Y/N), if you don't say anything right now, I'll be the one doing the killing." Tom shouted from behind his door as you watched Harrison disappear in his room. You hadn't even realised that you had stopped in front of Tom's door, probably giving him the entertainment of his life time.
"What are you doing?" The boy's door opened before he saw you look at him helplessly.
"I-I don't know." You whispered as you looked back and forth between Harrison's closed door and Tom.
"If you mess this up with him, I swear." Tom groaned, "Please go talk to him. Please." He whined as he pushed you towards his best mate's door before knocking for you.
The door opened immediately as if Harrison had been waiting for you to knock. The look on the boy's face broke your heart. He looked like he regretted everything he had just told you, like he messed up your friendship by telling you he loved you, like he should have never said anything.
"Why do I have to be the one acting like a damn mother?" Tom groaned as he pushed you inside the room before closing the door behind you.
"I'm sorry." Harrison said as his voice broke, "I-I shouldn't ha-"
"I love you." You whispered as you slowly looked up at him as his eyes widened.
"Y-You do?" He asked as his lips spread into a wide smile.
"I'm so in love with you that I have no idea what to say right now and I don't know if this could work between us but I-I just don't want you to think that this isn't mutual, because fuck, it is but I'm just so damn scared because I don't want to lose you a-and..." You were interrupted by Harrison's lips colliding with yours for the second time today, making you forget all your doubts about this not working, because all you knew right now was that Harrison Osterfield was the one that owned your heart.
