Birthday Surprise
"Are you sure you can't make it?" Harrison asked one last time as you were lying on your shared sofa as he stood next to you, almost begging you to join him on his trip to Berlin.
It would be his birthday tomorrow and he was going to Berlin for a fashion show. Everything had been pretty last minute and you were in the middle of studying for exams which meant that you were stressed and busy as hell.
"Harrison, I can't. I'm sorry, but you're going to be back really soon right?" You asked your roommate and best friend who was looking at you with a pout displayed on his face.
"Thought we were best friends. Forever." He whined as you let out a laugh and stood up to pull him into a hug.
"We will always be best friends - just not in Berlin tomorrow."
"Fine! I'll be flying alone and I won't be having any fun because you won't be there and maybe someone will kidnap me and I'll never come back and you will be the one responsible for that because you were not there with me and I was all alone - with no one to help me." Your little drama queen said before he let his arms fall from your waist, taking a step back to grab his suitcase.
"You're really good at this acting thing, you should try it sometime." You grinned, "Hey wait, I know the actor from the new Spider-Man, if you want I can ask him if they could get you a job."
"Thinking about it, maybe spending some time away from you isn't the worst thing." The blue eyed boy chuckled as you let out a gasp.
"Take that back. You love me."
"Sure, just keep telling yourself that if it'll make you feel better, Love." He winked before he pulled out his phone to check the time.
Harrison wasn't wrong, you really wished he did love you like you loved him. You had been crushing on him ever since you had met him, ever since he had introduced himself to you back in year 10. That had been almost a decade ago, and your crush only grow stronger up to the point where you were just incredibly scare about even admitting to yourself that you were madly in love with your roommate and best friend.
"Gotta catch our flight, you coming?" Harrison grinned as he picked up his backpack as you rolled your eyes, "Okay that was my last attempt to get you to join me, but I guess I'm really not good enough for you." Another pout.
"For fucks sake, H." You let out a laugh as you pulled him into another hug, "Leave before I kick your stupid ass out."
"Enjoy being bored to death." Harrison chuckled as he placed a soft kiss on your forehead, making you almost lose balance, "I'll see you soon."
You watched the boy wave at you one last time before he closed the door behind him. Truth was, he had made you feel guilty about letting him go on this trip alone, let alone letting him spend his birthday alone in Germany.
Letting out a groan you pulled up the British Airways website to check for the next flight to Berlin. The things you would do for this boy who didn't even know how much he meant to you.
Booking the next flight out to Berlin, you had a few hours left to pack and then get to the airport.
Harrison: I'm bored.
You let out a chuckle as you read the text message Harrison had just sent you. He wasn't even out of the country and he already complained via text about you not joining him.
You: Get a grip, mate.
You stood in front of your closet not knowing what to bring because you technically would be in Berlin for about 24 hours which meant you were technically good with just one or two outfits, but what would you be doing there?
You didn't know a lot about the event since you hadn't really bothered finding out more about it since you were not going, but now you wished you had Harrison tell you everything about it.
But it wouldn't be you if you wouldn't find out through a few clicks on Instagram, because soon you had all the information you needed before you texted Harrison's manager asking him if he could somehow get you into the Event as well because you wanted to surprise Harrison for his birthday which he immediately was able to do.
You were close to everyone Harrison worked with or was friends with because the boy had made it his secret mission to bring you everywhere with him. An event somewhere in the world? You were there with him. A red carpet premiere? You were his +1. A holiday with his family? You were invited. You were incredibly close and it sometimes made it hard to remember that he wasn't your boyfriend.
Shoving your study material into your backpack you checked one last time if you had grabbed everything important before leaving for the airport, five hours after Harrison had left. He was arriving in Berlin at 3:40pm and you were leaving at 3:30pm which meant you were arriving at around 6pm.
You had kind of forgotten about the time difference which meant you didn't have a lot of time to get ready for the Event which you had to leave for at around 8pm.
You were lucky that you had remembered the hotel the boy was staying at which made it easy for you to book yourself a room. Everything was going smoothly and the fact that you didn't have a lot of outfits to pick from made it pretty easy to get ready in the spare time you had left.
Harrison: Just so you know, I am having the time of my life! So. Much. Fun. Without. You.
You shook your head as you saw that Harrison had texted just seconds before he had posted a story on his Instagram of him leaving the Hotel and of him arriving at the Location.
You: Sure looks like it on your Story
Harrison: So. Much. Fun! Only four hours left until I can celebrate my birthday! Without you! With my new friends!
He was really trying hard to make you feel guilty. Shutting your hotel room door behind you, you got into an Uber and just like that, you were on your way to the Liam Payne x Hugo Boss Launch Event. Your 15-year-old self would not have believed you even if you tried.
The Location was really something special, nothing you would ever expect a Fashion Show to be in, but it may have looked a bit 'old' and 'abandoned' on the outside if it wasn't for the lights, but once you had passed the entrance, everything was incredible.
Now it was time for you to find Harrison which sounded easier than it was. You had arrived a bit later than most of the people there since you had to make you Harrison was already inside the Location before you were able to leave the Hotel.
You first guess was the bar - and not much to your surprise you could spot him pulling out his phone just seconds before yours buzzed with a message.
Harrison: So much fun! Alone!
You chuckled before you put your phone away as you made your way over to where Harrison was standing. You felt your phone buzz again but you decided to ignore it as you stood close to Harrison at the bar, wondering if he was going to notice you if you didn't say anything to him.
He was still typing away on his phone as you felt another buzz coming from your phone. Idiot was really only texting you when he was at this amazing Event.
"You're pretty, do you need a plus one?" You tried to change your voice but felt like you failed horribly.
"Sorry, I'm in a rela-" Harrison started as he looked up to see who was talking to him. His eyes widened when he realised it was no other than you who was hitting on him, "Yes, I do need a plus one." He grinned as he immediately pulled you into a hug.
"What's that about you being in a relationship?" You chuckled as you enjoyed the tingle that went through your body as his arms were still wrapped around you.
"It's not -uh- tired of all the people hitting on me?" He said as a soft blush appeared on his cheek as if you caught him doing something you should have never found out about.
"Someone's pretty full of themselves." You chuckled as you snatched Harrison's beer to take a sip.
"First you make me come alone and then you steal my beer? Why don't you just go?" Harrison chuckled as he stole his own beer back from you, "Why are you here? How are you here?"
"There's this thing called a plane, it's amazing, took me only two hours to get here!" You grinned as Harrison let out a groan, "Someone complained a hell of a lot about me leaving them alone and about me being the worst best friend ever."
"I wonder who that was." Harrison grinned as he wrapped his arm around your shoulder before pulling you into his side, "I'm glad you're here."
"Just here for Liam Payne." You heard Harrison gasp before he tightened his grip around you.
"Well, then we should be going and sadly miss him performing." He said as you took another sip of his beer before shaking your head.
You had a lot of fun during the whole evening and something in your friendship with Harrison seemed to be shifting tonight. He had his arm wrapped around you most of the time or you had your hand placed on his leg as you were both involved in a different conversation. Somehow you felt even more drawn to him than you had been in the past years - and for the first time it felt like Harrison was too.
Harrison had liked you for a while now. He may have not realised it immediately when you met back in year 10, but he had known for a few months now and he wasn't sure how to make his move on you. It would be weird, right? Telling you he fell for you? But it was getting harder and harder for him to not step over this line the two of you had put up in your friendship. He wanted you to be more than just his best friend, more than just his roommate, he wanted you to be his plus one all the time.
You were standing in front of the stage that was currently being prepared for Liam's performance as Harrison hand found its way to you waist, making you lean into his touch up until you were pressed against his front.
People were gathering around you and it was getting pretty crowded in front of that stage, which made Harrison instinctively wrap his arms around you, pulling you even closer into his chest as he placed his chin on your shoulder before pressing a soft kiss on you cheek.
"You look really pretty tonight." Harrison smiled as you felt the heath spread in your cheeks.
He was going to make his move tonight and he would either have the worst or the best birthday, and he surely was hoping for the latter of the two.
"Y'know," he whispered, "I keep telling people that I am in a relationship when I'm clearly not - at least not officially, but I always feel like I'm cheating on y— someone — when I'm talking to someone that is interested in me."
Your heartbeat picked up its pace. Ws he talking about you?
"W-Why are you not in a relationship with that person then?"
"Don't really know if you like me like that." He mumbled as he placed a kiss on your shoulder just as the moderator announced the start of Liam's performance, giving you no time to respond to what the blonde had just told you.
Your mind was racing and you couldn't really focus on the Ex One Direction member in front of you as you were too aware of Harrison's hands on you. You felt the tingles spread through your whole body whenever he held you a little tighter as another person accidentally bumped into you. You were so in love with this boy and he didn't even know it yet.
You glanced at the person's phone in front of you and realised that it was five minutes past midnight, which meant that it was now the boy's 23rd birthday.
Turning around, Harrison's hand were still securely placed on your waist as you finally faced to boy who had just told you he liked you.
"Happy Birthday, Harrison." You smiled as your hand went to his cheek before you placed a soft kiss on his other cheek, "And I do like you like that." You smiled as you saw the little crinkles appear around the boy's soft blue eyes.
"You do?" He smiled before his eyes wandered down to your lips and back up to your eyes.
"How about I show you?"
"I'd like that." He grinned as you connected your lips with his - and it was everything you had every imagined it would be like.
Harrison's lips were soft, in fact, they made you never want to stop feeling them on top of your own. You could feel him smile through the kiss as his hand found their way to the back of your head, pulling you closer when you tried to take a step back.
"Still mad at me for letting you come here alone?" You grinned before you placed another peck on the boy's lips.
"Wouldn't exactly say that," he chuckled as you turned back around to watch the rest of Liam's performance, "You know what I'd love to strip down right now?" He whispered into your ear as goosebumps appeared all over your body, making you hold onto his hands which were intertwined in front of your stomach.
"I'm sure you're going to tell me when we get back to our hotel." You mumbled as your mind went places you had tried to avoid going to for a few years now.
"I'm pretty sure no one here will miss me if we leave right now." He grinned as he placed a kiss on your neck, "And since it's my birthday," another kiss, "I would like to cash in my birthday present, Love."
"But Liam - and his performance — and seeing him?"
"You're kidding me, right?" He laughed as he pulled you closer to his chest.
"I am, let's go."
Safe to say it was the best birthday he has had so far.
