make you mine

Summary: after a really long and exhausting day as the head doctor at your family practice, you come home to your loving boyfriend and another sweet surprise.

"I hate people! Never let me go to work ever again!" you yelled, slamming the door to you and your boyfriend Harrison's apartment, seething with rage. Harrison's head perked up from the living room couch, watching in amusement as you struggled with the thick scarf around your neck. With an annoyed squeak, you threw it next to the plant by the door and kicked off your boots, not caring in the slightest where they ended up.

"Hello to you too, babe," Harrison said with a smirk getting up to help you take off your coat, since you were currently trying to rip the buttons instead of calmly slipping them through the buttonholes. His gentle demeanor was completely different from your rage and he softly kissed your forehead, smiling all the while. Steadily, he moved your shaking hands from their frantic running through your hair. The coat finally free from your body, he held it and your hand, dragging you to the sofa while you kept ranting.

"Do you know what happened today? I hadn't even walked into the office before I was literally accosted by a woman claiming she had brain damage because she had read an article on WebMD that basically confirmed it! And, of course, she kept asking why couldn't I return her calls at least five minutes after she had placed them....because clearly I sit by the phone and wait for it to ring?! And then my nurse left unannounced during a physical because her boyfriend was hungry and asked for food!"

By this point you were sitting on the sofa, Harrison having placed you right between his legs so that you were straddling him. One hand rested on your hip and the other was carefully stroking your hair, trying to calm you down.

He found it both insanely cute and hot when you were so angry like this. Most of the time, you were the most quiet, gentle person in the room. But when you were mad, God help the subject of your wrath.

Harrison had figured that out at least ten times during the course of your five year relationship. As long as he wasn't the culprit, Harrison enjoyed seeing you riled up like this. Mainly because he got to play the supportive, domestic boyfriend and pretend like you needed saving from the world.

You didn't. And Harrison was the first person to acknowledge that. Whatever you tackled, you conquered. You didn't need anyone to save you from anything, so Harrison always felt lucky that you had even looked in his general direction all those years ago. Being a doctor for one of the most famous practices in the country, you were at the top of your field. Though he loved having a smarty-pants doctor girlfriend, he still couldn't fathom that you had chosen him of all people to fall in love with.

"Does it say a lot about me when all I wanna do right now is drive a forklift off a cliff?" You groaned, collapsing onto Harrison's shoulder and snuggling closer to him. Harrison felt his heart warm at the proximity and he smiled lazily, a response popping into his head. He brought his arms around your waist and pulled you as close to him as possible. Then he started to place soft kisses to your neck and jaw.

"I mean, don't kill me, but you do know I'd call to ask you for food too, right?" Harrison whispered timidly, biting his lip to keep from laughing and waiting for your reaction. He knew his comment would either push you over the edge or send you into a fit of giggles. He was hoping for the latter, as Harrison didn't want you to be too upset. He liked being the cause of your smile, and especially your laugh. You suddenly stopped moving, and Harrison knew what was coming.

"Are you serious right now? Really, while I'm trying to rant?" You gasped dramatically and pulled yourself away from Harrison. You gave him a playful, squinty glare and got up from the sofa to go to the kitchen.

"Wait, wait babe! I'm sorry, I'm sorry!"

Harrison burst out laughing, and grabbed your wrist before you could leave him sitting there. You turned back to look at him, still determined to let him know that you were mad at his flippancy. Even though you actually found him so cute. You and him locked eyes for a minute, you trying to keep an angry look and Harrison trying to keep a straight face.

Both of you failed miserably.

Harrison burst out laughing, pulling you back into him as you giggled uncontrollably, so done with the events of the day. His comment had made you immediately soft again, and though you had tried to fight the soft mushy feelings that were trying to overtake your feelings of rage, you couldn't.

It was Harrison, your angel boyfriend.

How could your walls of anger not break down?

When both of you finally stopped laughing, you stopped and looked at each other, directly in the eyes. A single tear had dropped from Harrison's eye, after all the laughing, and it made you smile softly. You reached up and brushed it off, gently stroking your thumb over his cheekbone. Harrison looked up at you with such love and adoration that your heart felt like it would burst out of your chest.

"How was your day, Haz?" You whispered, a bit of humor laced in your voice as he brought your head to touch his lightly. Harrison entwined his fingers with yours and chuckled.

"Well, definitely not as eventful as my gorgeous-smarty-doctor girlfriend's, but not too bad. Hey, hey, hey, wanna hear what the highlight of my day was?" he asked, poking you in the arm several times. You swatted his arm away and rolled your eyes in mock annoyance.

"What, babe?" You laughed as Harrison grinned like a small child that had just made his crush smile.

"You coming home to me." The answer floored you, the smile coming before you could even think. With a sudden jerk, you yanked Harrison's face to yours.

"You're perfect, you know that?" you whispered, your lips ghosting over his. Harrison looked down at your lips then up into your eyes before grinning cockily.

"Mhmm, I did know that surprisingly. Funny isn't it, since..." But Harrison didn't get to finish his little joke because you finally connected your mouth to his, effectively shutting him up.

The kiss was soft and passionate all at the same time. You poured the entire day's exhaustion and your infatuation for Harrison into it, and it felt like electricity was surging through you. Harrison smiled into your mouth, leaning forward to bring you as close as possible again. His nimble fingers skipped up your arms to your face, cupping the sides protectively. With a low rumble, he captured your bottom lip between his and slowly caressed it, deepening the kiss even more. You couldn't help but sigh, loving the feel of Harrison on you.

Finally breaking away for air, the two of you sat back slightly, regulating your breathing. Harrison had a smirk that screamed his pride over the way he could make you like putty in his hands. You were grinning too but blushed madly when you caught him staring at your lips again.

"How on earth are you still such an embarrassed blushy mess after we've been dating for five years?" he asked, tracing small hearts on your exposed thigh. "And how can I make you mine as soon as possible?"

You smirked mischievously, throwing your arms around his neck. He watched you with a slow smile, as you brought your lips to his nose.

"Mr. Osterfield, are you saying what I think you're saying?" You asked with a tinkling laugh, admiring his face. Harrison laughed with you.

"And if I was saying what you think I'm saying, would you say what I hope you'd say?" You played with his curls before responding.

"Well, why don't you ask me then, you div!" you teased, making Harrison grin and then to your utter disbelief, reach into his pocket and take out a small box. "Wait, what...are you...did you....?"

"Shh my love, at least let me get through what I had prepared first!" He laughed as you suddenly got quiet, your eyes beginning to water as you realized what was in front of you.

Your perfect boyfriend, the absolute love of your life, your soulmate and best friend, your partner in crime, was proposing to you.

"When I first met you five years ago, it was at one of those weird house parties that Tom always dragged me to because he wanted someone to talk to. I remember that night I really didn't want to go. It was because of how alone I felt after seeing him so happy. I love him, he's my best friend and my brother basically, but I saw him find love and I thought that would never be me. Of course Tom being Tom, he made me go and that's when I saw you. I remember sitting in some corner drinking whatever it was Tom had handed me and watching all the couples and then you came in, all alone. You weren't even wearing party stuff, just a pair of skinny jeans and a top. But you looked better than everyone I'd ever laid eyes on. You were so nervous and unsure of yourself, and I had no idea why because I'd never been more sure of anyone in my life. And I'm still not.

"I'd bet on you and your beautiful soul every time, baby. Every damn time. You're the reason everyday feels like paradise. Because I fell madly in love with my best friend."

Your eyes had stopped watering and now you were completely sobbing, trying to cover your mouth so that Harrison could keep going. He smiled lovingly at you, the dorky love of his life bawling her eyes out over his sappy profession of undying love, and decided that this was all he wanted for the rest of his life. Harrison just needed you and he'd be living on cloud nine forever.

He brought his thumb across the underneath of your eyes, wiping away your tears while you smiled softly at his gentle touch. With a deftness you had only seen in the movies, Harrison brought your left hand up to his lips, kissing every finger individually until he came to your ring finger.

Time stood still, as you watched him hold his gaze on it, opening the little box that had been forgotten for a few minutes. You thought maybe he'd struggle with it, or freak out and take everything back because it all seemed like a dream. How could this really be happening? You'd never wanted something so much in your life.

But Harrison didn't struggle and he didn't change his mind. He took out the ring, the most gorgeous piece of jewelry you'd ever seen in your life, and finally brought his eyes up to yours again.

"So, what do you say my firecracker, my brainiac, my soulmate......wanna make me the luckiest guy in the world and spend the rest of your life dealing with me?" Now the nerves came through, Harrison's voice cracking a little and his hands beginning to shake, worried you'd turn him down or laugh in his face.

Maybe it was too soon, maybe you didn't love him the way he loved you yet, maybe he had pushed you and made you uncomfortable......

And you saw the anxiety in his eyes, the pure love mixed with terror. Terror that you would pack up and leave behind, taking his heart and soul with you. Because you knew he had been hurt, so many times before. And that, for him, love could be either the antidote for the poison, or the poison itself.

But you smiled instead of sneering. And you kissed him instead of leaping away.

You were going to be the antidote, your mind shouted. Forever and ever.

"There's nothing I'd rather do more than deal with you and have you deal with me too. Yes, my div, my beautiful boyfriend, my life partner, of course I'll marry you. I'd marry you in a heartbeat."

It was like the world had finally come into view for Harrison, the colors seeping into a black and white film. His heart raced and his mind was reeling. He wanted to take your hand and shout from the window that he loved you.

And that you were really his and he was really yours.

You said yes. You said yes. You said yes.

You loved him too.

His hands shaking, but no longer from the fear of losing you, he brought the ring to its rightful place. With a giddy smile, he slid it down your finger. The ring was beautiful, Harrison thought, because it was adorning your hand.

And because it signified that you two would spend your lives together.

Without warning, you leaned down and pressed a chaste kiss to his lips and the sensitive area on his throat that made him exhale with happiness. Harrison's reaction made you smile, and he brought your face back to his. Shifting in his lap, you tossed your hair back. He smirked and raised his eyebrows at you.

He was so utterly in love with you.

As you were with him.

"So....you still hate everyone?"

"Shut up, you div!"
