Mysterious Package
Harper went with Anders and Charlie to the post office and picked up the package. It was bigger than Harper expected. He needed to call Zane soon to let him know they got the package. He didn't want to call too early but he needed to give Zane time to work.
Harper opened the package on the way back to the house. It was a laptop. Eve's handwriting was on the label. Harper knew what this was. He grabbed the memory stick and sure enough, it fit. They accessed files. They were large files. There was a lot of private information. There were several videos that Harper and the band watched with Hale and Jack.
There were members of the West Council feeding on humans. Live humans that didn't leave the room alive. Some were frightened before being attacked. One video was a group of West Council members hunting humans. Harper thought he was going to be sick.
The elders were breaking all kinds of laws on these videos. Some videos were elders turning humans and releasing them on other humans. They were having bets on who would die first. This was all kinds of illegal. Harper wondered how Eve got ahold of this.
"We need to send this to everyone." Charlie whispered. He was shocked and disgusted. "Send it to the weres also. This has to be seen by the North and South Councils also."
"I agree." Harper was sad. "I need Blair."
Hale agreed and got his wife on the phone. He talked to Blair and she had the files sent to the weres and the Center Council. Everyone needed the evidence in case something happened.
They made copies and hid them as well. They spread this everywhere before five that evening. It was no longer a secret and people were being arrested and detained for questioning.
Harper called Zane at the office and the phone just rang. Harper tried his cell and it went to voicemail. He never had this problem. Zane always answered. Once he was in the bathroom, on the toilet, with the flu and still managed to answer the phone.
Harper tried his cell phone again. Smith answered.
"Smith, I need to talk to Zane. Please. This is an emergency." Harper started.
"Sorry, Harper. He is unavailable at the moment." Smith said into the phone in a suspiciously calm voice.
Harper had a bad feeling. "Where is Zane? Smith? I really need to talk to him."
Smith laughed. "He's tied up right now. I'm afraid he can't come to the phone. I'm going to need that memory stick that you have, Harper."
"Smith. What are you talking about?" Harper wanted to see what was going on.
"Oh, let's not be stupid. I know everything. I know what's on that stick. The videos. I know everything. Nero, he has been paying me to watch you and Eve. Zane was helping and he had no idea."
"Well, he does now but he really can't talk to you. I will kill him if you don't hand over the stick and the computer. And yes, I know about that computer. Nero wants to meet for a trade." Smith was looking at Zane as he talked.
Smith felt bad because he really liked Zane but this was more important. He didn't love Zane as much as he loved money and power. Nero promised to turn him if he helped. He didn't feel that bad.
"Please just don't kill Zane and I will bring the stick. Where?" Harper was scared. Hale was beside Harper with everyone else.
"The old sugar mill on route six. You know where that is? Look it up if you don't. Just you. Well, you and Jack. I know he's there. I'm going to need Jack. He has a lot of vampire hunter information that my boss could use. I don't ask questions. That is all I know so don't ask. I need Harper and Jack with the stick and the computer. Come alone at ten tonight." Smith hung up.
