Flirting Served Hot

Harper was on the couch with his earbuds in, listening to his new favorite band, his favorite voice. He closed his eyes and pictured Anders singing. He could still feel those arms around him and he could feel Anders' back when he touched him. Harper took a breath. Someone hit his foot, gently.

Harper opened his eyes, Anders was there...with no shirt on. He was there with no shirt. "Oh. That was faster than I..." He sat up and his laptop fell off his lap. Anders grabbed it before it touched the floor. "Thanks."

Anders loved that Harper didn't flinch when he moved and loved the way he just looked at him. Anders hunted quickly because he wanted to get back to Harper.

He told the others that it was to keep Harper safe but he was lying. He wanted to see him. Hold him. Anders hated himself.

Charlie just laughed and shook his head. He knew Anders. He knew better.

"What are you listening to?" Anders was curious about what band could put that look on his face. It was bliss if he ever saw it. He was jealous of the person that could do that to him.

"Oh. Nothing. No one. I was...it's nothing." Harper sat up and tried to close his laptop but Anders still had it. "No!"

"What? Who were you..." He glanced at Harper's playlist before he could try to grab it. He had bought all of their songs and they were on the computer, on his playlist that Anders was looking at. Harper wasn't going to say anything. He didn't want Anders to know he loved his music. "Uh..."

Anders was speechless. Harper was listening to him. He damn near fell over. It was his voice that caused Harper to look like that. Anders was giving him that bliss. He cursed in his head.

"I was curious. I never heard your music before. I just...I was curious." Harper hated himself.

"Right. Sorry." Anders was thrilled. He almost melted. Pull yourself together, man, he lectured himself. What in the hell was he doing? What was wrong with him? He handed the laptop back to Harper and sat in a chair.

Harper sat on the couch and Anders was in the chair. They were silent. Harper stood up and Anders was standing, he was close to him. "Sorry. I should respect your privacy."

Harper looked at Anders' shoulder. He couldn't look at that face. He accidentally looked down his arm. Anders had nice arms. Harper wondered briefly when he had time to work out. Harper cleared his throat. "I uh, I was waiting for you...You know, to open that envelope." He stepped closer to Anders and then backed up.

Anders hated that Harper backed away. He closed the distance. He was almost touching the other man. "Thanks for waiting."

Harper tried to hold himself together. "Right. Don't think that just because you are helping me that there's anything going to happen with us. You don't like humans and I don't like vampires. We have work to do." He had to fight with his body to stiffen up. He felt melted in place.

"Right. Work." Anders backed away but his body didn't want to. His body wanted to touch him. Harper smelled delicious. He could feel his fangs. He had to stop and back up. He closed his eyes and took a breath. Work. They had to find Eve. Brown Envelope. Right. He straightened and followed Harper to the back room. "I told you that I don't hate humans."

"Sure." Harper teased.

Anders caught the tease. He didn't want to close the door because he didn't trust himself alone with Harper. Anders either wanted to kill him or have sex with him and the door should stay open. "Maybe we should leave the door open?"

Harper smiled. "I can open this alone?"

Anders took a breath and closed the door. He sat beside Harper and then moved to a chair.

"I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable, Anders. I'm sorry for whatever that was. I am." Harper explained.

"What exactly was that, Harper?" Anders challenged with his sexy deep voice.

Harper wanted to ignore that especially if it was something, which was tough because he loved Anders' voice.

"Envelope." Harper held it up and then tore it open. It was a memory stick. He tried his computer but it wasn't compatible. "Damn it! It doesn't fit this one! What in the hell kind of memory stick is this?" The prongs were weird and he had never seen one like it.

"Let's try mine." Anders ran to get his. He sat beside Harper and he handed the stick to Anders. "No way it will fit here either. What does this go to and what is on it? What was Eve doing when she was taken? Do you know what she was working on?" He handed the stick back to Harper.

"No. We didn't talk about work. I have no idea. She never brought work home with her." Harper smiled at the floor. "So, how was the hunting trip?

"It was fine. I got a couple of deer." Anders couldn't believe he was having this conversation with a human. "We don't kill people so we keep donated blood in the fridge just in case. We don't need to risk eating our fans. Who would buy our songs?" Anders looked at Harper. He smiled at Anders. He would and he did. "Well, besides you. I mean, did you buy all of them?"

Harper glared at him again. "I just wanted to be familiar with them so that when I got to the concert I would fit in. Don't take it as a compliment. Who would go to a concert and listen to music and not know the music?"

Anders smiled his devilish smile. "I'm taking it as a compliment and there is nothing you can do about it." Harper tried not to smile. "So, you like our music, huh?" He loved teasing Harper and he was curious.

"No. I hate it!" Harper glared at him. "It sucks."

Anders laughed and Harper laughed. "Sure. I'm glad you like it." Harper nodded. "So, what do you do when you aren't here bugging me?"

"You mean work? A job? I'm an accountant."

Anders just laughed.

"What?"

Anders smiled. "It's just the complete opposite of what I do. I find that funny."

Harper smiled. "They say that opposites attract...not that I am attracted to you or you are attracted to me. I just mean that opposites can get along. That's what they say!" Who in the hell were 'they' and he wanted to kick their ass.

Anders cleared his throat. "Right. That was a lot of stammering, Harper. You okay?"

Harper glared at him. "Shut up." He yawned.

Anders chuckled. He was leaving that conversation alone. He was very attracted to Harper and he shouldn't be. "You're probably exhausted. You can sleep in my cot tonight." Anders offered and pulled Harper out of the room and Harper began to argue. "Alone. I'm not sleeping tonight. I have some work to do and I'm not an animal." He looked at him with black eyes.

Harper smiled. "Oh. Well, I guess that's fine." Anders was an animal, he knew he would be. Harper had to shut up and stop thinking like that about Anders. He had to quit enjoying those looks from him.

"Right. The bathroom is here and this is my cot." It was on the bottom bunk and there was a thick cover that Harper figured was for when they slept. Eve had one on her large four poster bed at home. It kept the sun out.

"Enjoy and have worry-free dreams." Anders was about to tuck Harper into the bed. Climb in with him and touch him all night. He had to stop thinking about this human man. "Good night. You can handle things from here." He turned and closed the back room door.

He went straight for the bar. Brandy was his favorite. He needed a drink. Charlie knocked and walked in. "Don't start with me."

"So, he is sleeping in your bed, huh?" Charlie was starting.

"Shut up." Anders downed the brandy and sighed. "What am I doing?"

Charlie smiled. "You have needed a distraction for some time. I like him."

"Shut up."

"Right. Are you okay?" Charlie asked with seriousness. He knew that Anders didn't like being around humans. Charlie had never seen Anders even look at a human since he was turned. Hell, he never looked at any woman, man, vampire or human. This would be good for him.

Anders laughed. "I'm so far from okay! No. Charlie, what am I doing? I actually expect an answer."

"I think you are flirting with a human but if I need to tell you that then you don't deserve him!" Charlie teased.

"I know. I don't deserve him. I'm terrified that I'll hurt him." Anders took a breath. They had work to do. "I really like him." He cleared his throat. "We have a song to record. Right?" He needed something to do besides think about a human. He smelled so good.

"That is one reason I came in here. I really wanted to check on you. Can we do some work then? I need to finish that track and get you in there. This is going to be a nice song. More like a slower song. Something new. I want our fans to hear your voice. You have pipes and you should sing more. Don't look at me like that. You know what I mean." Charlie smiled. "You really like him, huh?"

"Right, I know. More singing and less hatred. Less yelling. I know." Anders smiled. He loved to sing. "I don't know that I will do anything about it, Charlie."

Charlie nodded. He really hoped Anders did something about it.

He didn't look like it but Anders loved to sing since he was little. Ballads and love songs. Country music and classical. He actually loved classical music. He would never tell anyone that though. Charlie and Anders worked all night on Anders' part of the song. This was a nice song but he was giving Charlie a tough time. He deserved it.

Anders knew that he was going to get a lot of crap about this human. How was he going to stay away from him on a bus? He could smell Harper and he almost drooled. Hesmelled so good and not in that 'I want to eat you' kind of smell, more like a 'I want to cuddle up and kiss you all night' smell. He listened to him breathe all night while he was working.

Harper stretched and yawned. He had the best night's sleep and he loved that the pillow smelled like Anders. He smelled like the wind on a nice spring morning and whatever Cologne he wore. It was light and airy. He liked it and held the pillow to his nose again and inhaled deeply. He would deny it if anyone asked. He dreamed about Anders all night and he hated himself.

Harper rolled out of bed and tripped to the bathroom. He showered quickly and got dressed. More jeans and t-shirts. He had to find more clothes soon. He missed his clothes. He stumbled out of the bathroom and ran into Anders. Of course.

"Damn it!" Harper cursed. He dropped his towel and his hairbrush. His hair was tangled and messy. It was still very wet and he wasn't wearing makeup. He always kept a light layer of foundation on.

"Sorry. Good morning to you." Anders smiled. Harper was just beautiful.

"Right. Morning. Sorry. I am sorry. I was startled and I hate mornings. Hi." Harper wanted to kill himself right now.

Anders smiled and looked at Harper. He liked saying good morning to him. "Breakfast? Are you hungry?" He was thrilled that he had perfect timing.

"Uh, I am starving!" Harper couldn't remember the last time he ate. Seemed like a week ago.

"Sorry. I forget that you need something different than what we eat. We're not used to having a human on board. Can I cook for you?" Anders asked.

Harper just stared at him. "You cook?"

"I love to cook, yes. So, can I?" He would beg.

"Sure." Harper answered slowly. "Let me get myself together and I'll meet you in the kitchen. I'll be quick!"

Anders walked off to the kitchen area and Harper just watched him. He was wearing jeans and a t-shirt. It had the band's name on it written in dripping blood. The back said bite me and some dates. It was a couple of years ago.

Everyone wished they looked that good in jeans. Were those made for him? He just watched him walk down the aisle of the bus. He almost drooled. He was standing there like an idiot.

"Enjoying the view?" Charlie was there.

Harper stumbled and sputtered nonsense words, picked up his brush and towel and rushed back to the bathroom. He was never coming out.

"So, cooking breakfast for Harper. Interesting?" Lee said and smiled. He sat at the table.

"Shut up." Anders was flipping bacon.

"I like him. He is pretty for a guy and he seems sweet. Too nice for you." Krista teased. She was playing a game on her tablet.

"He's starving and I don't know when he ate last. Humans like to eat when they wake up." Anders was sure of that.

"Right. Uh, I think he likes you." Charlie smiled as he sat beside Lee.

"Shut up." Anders didn't need to be teased right now. "No. Harper doesn't and I don't want him to. And how would you know?"

"Oh, I know. You should have seen the way he was watching you walk to the kitchen. If looks could do what they wanted, he would have you tied to the closest permanent object and he would have his way with you. I know that look!" Charlie smiled.

"Shut up. We are done talking about this. Vampire and human. Eve's son. He is not available." Anders reassured them. He smiled at the thought of Harper looking at his butt. He shook his head.

"Ah. Interesting." Lee smiled.

"What? There is nothing interesting." Anders reassured them. He was feeling very transparent and hated that they knew him so well. Anders liked Harper and he was trying not to. He was trying to hide those feelings.

He had to get through a few days on the bus and they could find Eve and be done. Harper could go home and he wouldn't have to see him again. Anders didn't like that thought.

"You never actually said you didn't want him." Charlie finished Lee's thought. He knew where Lee was going. They knew Anders. He liked Harper. Charlie thought this was fun. They never had anything to tease Anders about.

Everyone was in the kitchen when Harper worked up the courage to enter. Charlie and Lee were laughing. Harper didn't want to know. He was happy to be ignorant in this situation. Harper sat down. He looked at the table trying not to be embarrassed because Charlie caught him staring at Anders' ass.

"Well, we will leave you to breakfast." Charlie said.

Harper knew he was insinuating something else. Harper shook his head.

"Morning, Harper. Enjoy...breakfast." Krista smiled and giggled. She left with Lee. He just winked at Harper. Harper looked at the table and blushed. He hated that he blushed.

"That was weird. So, what's breakfast?" Harper asked. He noticed that Anders hadn't turned around. He had free reign to ogle some more but up close and in person. He took advantage and just looked at Anders. There was no bad angle either. How did someone look like that?

Anders cleared his throat. "Bacon and eggs. Oh, toast. I almost forgot." He pushed the bread down in the toaster.

"Can I help with something? You really didn't have to make me breakfast. I can just grab cereal." Harper tried to reassure him.

"I already feel bad that we let you starve and I kind of kidnapped you, so I owe you breakfast. You want to butter the toast?" He asked.

Harper stood up next to Anders and buttered the toast. His arm bumped Anders and he froze. "Sorry. I know I make you uncomfortable and I'm sorry. I'll be out of your way..." Anders was quiet. Harper wondered if he did something wrong. Anders still hadn't looked at him. He turned off the stove and slid the eggs onto the plate with the bacon.

"Here." Anders sounded upset.

"Oh. Thanks. Really." Harper felt sad. What had happened? He dreamed about him all night and thought about him all morning. Anders made him breakfast and he felt like crying.

Harper thought Anders was going to kiss him yesterday and now he wouldn't even look at him. Great. This was going to be just pure hell. He finished his eggs and bacon in silence. He felt alone again.

"That was delicious." Harper stood and began to wash the dishes and pans. He knew that Anders was still there.

"We will be at the next place later today. The concert is tonight." Anders said. That was random.

"Oh. Okay. I uh...."

"Harper. I'm a vampire. You understand that. Right?"

Harper laughed. "Yes. I understand that. Anders? What in the hell is going on? What just happened? Are you okay?" He wiped down the stove and the counter.

"Uh. I'm not sure yet. I'm trying to keep my grip on reality." Anders wasn't explaining anything.

Harper nodded. "I don't actually understand that. Where did the rest of the band go?"

Anders shook his head. "They're jerks. They were trying to give us...some, you know, space. I guess."

Harper laughed. "Really! That isn't necessary. They know that right?" He was sure it wasn't needed. He was playing with the towel he used to dry his hands.

"Clearly, they don't. No. They are idiots. I'm killing them later." Anders paused. "After the concert."

"Right. I'm helping." Harper volunteered.

"That's a date. Deal. Not a date. A deal." Anders was going to pass out.

Get a grip!
