Crushing

Harper drove home to his apartment and stared at the computer some more. There were a couple pictures of Anders smiling. He had a nice smile. Okay... no. He wore more makeup than anyone Harper knew. Anders had on eyeliner and he could probably give Eve tips on how to apply it. His eyelashes were thick and pretty.

In several pictures, the band was on a red carpet at some music awards or festival. There were several different ones. He was in leather pants and no shirt. That was his attire. Harper was okay with that too. They dressed the same on stage or on the red carpet. Harper thought he would look great in a suit. Oh, a tux. Yes. He would look fantastic in a tux.

Harper shook his head. "Focus, Harper. Eve. Focus on Eve not the criminal... possible criminal." He figured Anders had been arrested a number of times. He was curious and needed to talk to him. How would he get close? He sighed.

Harper searched for a concert where they had backstage passes. He had to meet this Anders man and at least try to talk to him.

He found one for next week and clicked on it. There were only two backstage passes left and he bought it without hesitation. He finally exhaled when he got the confirmation and the ticket printed out. He was going to Anders Morton's concert. Taboo Origin. Right. He inhaled.

Harper booked a flight to Atlantic City and started making a mental list of what to pack. He had two days to worry more. Two days would give him time to get his office in order.

Harper had a feeling that he needed to get out of town. He stood up and paced. He looked at the screen with the band on it. He stared at them. Anders was the front man, glaring at him with vampire teeth and black eyes.

There were four band members including Anders. Two more guys and a woman. Huh? Good for her. Harper knew they were all vampires. Humans probably thought it was a show but Harper knew better.

Harper stared for a while and finally turned and grabbed his keys and was out the door. He hated himself for what he was about to do. He bought their latest CD and rushed back to his apartment. He wanted a tangible CD.

He listened to the music as the first song began to play. Drums. Lots of drums. The drummer was actually really good. Anders' voice began to sing, Harper's heart skipped a beat and he was hooked. His voice was nice and deep.

Harper got goosebumps listening to Anders threaten some woman. He liked this song. Something about some bitch he hated or cheated on him. Harper hated whoever it was. He could relate. He turned up the music and began to pack.

Harper had never been anywhere, really. Not alone. He didn't have any friends because he worked too much and never really understood humans or women. He had no one close. Zane, but he was paid to talk to him everyday. No one. Eve. Just Eve.

Harper sighed. He was taking this trip alone. He spent his life alone so this was nothing new. He was bad with guys, relationships in general. He got along with Eve because they were both too busy to realize they had a bad relationship. Harper smiled at that thought. Harper needed Eve back.

"What have you gotten into and why couldn't you have left a better clue!" Harper asked an invisible Eve.

Part of Harper thought that Eve couldn't have left a better clue. He shook his head and pushed a button on his phone and Zane answered.

"Zane. Cancel everything for the next week. I'm going on a trip. Family emergency."

"Harper. Is everything okay?" Zane was worried.

"I don't know yet but I hope so. I may need to be gone longer or I may be back but I just don't know. I will call you when I find out. Hey, look into a man, Anders Morton, and just get me anything you might have on him. Thanks." Harper hung up.

Anders? Was he dangerous? Was he part of this? How did he know Eve? Maybe Zane could find something.

Harper hoped he wasn't walking into trouble. He pulled a bottle of wine and poured his favorite red into a glass and sat. He listened to Anders' smooth deep voice singing a ballad. This one was pretty. He closed his eyes and listened to Anders until he fell asleep on the couch.

He woke up with the sound of Anders still singing. He slept all night listening to Anders sing and had a dreamless sleep.
