chapter forty four
The tension in the air was palpable as all eight of us arrived at the police station. We were ushered into a conference room where Officer Park, the lead investigator on the case, was waiting. His expression was grave, and he gestured for us to sit.
“Thank you for coming on such short notice,” Officer Park began. “We’ve made a significant breakthrough in the case. We’ve identified a new suspect who may be linked to the threats against Ava.”
The words hung in the air like a heavy fog. My heart pounded in my chest as Officer Park continued, “The new suspect is someone from Ava’s past. He was an old acquaintance who has developed a strong infatuation with her.”
I felt a chill run down my spine. The thought of someone from my past being involved in this was both unsettling and alarming. The boys exchanged worried glances, their concern evident as Officer Park continued to explain.
“His name is Daniel Kim,” Officer Park said, pulling up a photograph of a man who looked eerily familiar. “He was a former colleague of Ava’s from her early career days. We’ve discovered that he had developed an obsessive crush on her, which may have driven him to take drastic measures.”
I recognized Daniel immediately. He had been a part of the small team I worked with years ago, but our interactions had been limited. His sudden presence in this dark chapter of my life was disconcerting.
The room was filled with a mixture of shock and anger. Yoongi, who had been calm and collected throughout our meeting, now wore a deep frown. His protective nature was evident as he clenched his fists at his sides.
“That’s the guy who was sending those threats?” Yoongi’s voice was steady, but there was a clear edge to his words.
Officer Park nodded solemnly. “We believe he is the person behind the recent threats and the poisoning attempt. We’re working to gather more evidence and apprehend him, but we wanted to inform you as soon as possible.”
Jungkook, standing beside me, had his arm around my shoulders, his grip reassuring but tense. “Are you okay?” he asked quietly, his eyes filled with concern.
I nodded, though I could feel the anxiety bubbling beneath the surface. “I’ll be fine. We need to focus on finding him and stopping this.”
Tae, always perceptive to my emotions, placed a comforting hand on my back. “We’ll get through this,” he said softly. “We’re in this together.”
Jimin’s face was etched with a mix of guilt and worry. “I’m sorry this is happening,” he said, his voice filled with regret. “I just wanted to keep you safe.”
I reached out to him, offering a reassuring smile. “It’s not your fault, Jimin. We’ll deal with this, just like we’ve handled everything else.”
As the meeting concluded, Officer Park assured us that they were working diligently to capture Daniel Kim and ensure my safety. The atmosphere was somber as we left the station, each of us lost in our thoughts about the new development.
Back at the house, the mood was heavy with concern. The boys gathered in the living room, discussing the situation and brainstorming ways to keep me safe. Their protective instincts were on high alert, and their determination to shield me from harm was evident in every word they spoke.
I found myself back in Yoongi’s studio later that evening, the soothing sounds of his music providing a temporary escape from the stress of the day. Yoongi, ever the attentive listener, noticed my preoccupation and paused his work.
“You okay?” he asked, his voice gentle.
I nodded, though my mind was far from settled. “Just trying to process everything.”
Yoongi walked over and placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. “We’ll get through this,” he said. “You’re not alone in this fight.”
As the days went by, the boys continued to rally around me, their support unwavering. Their presence was a constant reminder of the strength of our bond, and their determination to protect me provided a sense of security amidst the chaos.
The investigation continued, with the police working tirelessly to capture Daniel Kim and bring him to justice. The threat was far from over, but with the boys by my side, I felt a glimmer of hope that we would emerge from this darkness stronger than ever.
