Chapter fifty
The excitement was palpable as we prepared to leave for the filming of Bon Voyage. The boys had been talking about this trip for weeks, and their enthusiasm was contagious. I could see it in their eyes—the thrill of adventure, the joy of exploring new places, and the promise of creating unforgettable memories together.
I was equally excited, yet a little anxious. It was a new experience for me, traveling and filming alongside the boys for an extended period. But I knew it would be a wonderful opportunity to strengthen our bond even further.
As we boarded the plane, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of emotions. The past few weeks had been intense, with all the threats and near-misses. This trip felt like a much-needed escape, a chance to breathe and focus on our relationship.
We arrived at our destination, a picturesque location surrounded by mountains and lakes. The air was crisp, and the scenery was breathtaking. I felt a sense of peace washing over me as we settled into our cozy cabin.
The boys were in high spirits, their laughter echoing through the cabin as they unpacked and explored. Namjoon, ever the leader, took charge of organizing our activities, ensuring everything ran smoothly.
It was during one of these moments of organization that an unexpected visitor arrived. A familiar face to Namjoon but a stranger to me. Her name was Ji-eun, an old friend of his from their college days.
Namjoon's face lit up when he saw her, and they embraced warmly. I could see the genuine happiness in his eyes, and it made my heart ache a little. I had never seen him that excited to see someone else before.
Ji-eun was beautiful, confident, and charismatic. She quickly integrated herself into our group, chatting animatedly with the boys. It was clear that she shared a close bond with Namjoon, and their easy camaraderie was evident.
At first, I tried to brush off the gnawing feeling of jealousy. After all, Namjoon had a right to have friends, and it wasn’t fair to feel threatened by someone from his past. But as the hours passed, I found it increasingly difficult to ignore the way Ji-eun monopolized his attention.
Namjoon seemed oblivious to my discomfort. He was too caught up in reminiscing with Ji-eun, sharing inside jokes and stories from their college days. I tried to join in, but I felt like an outsider, watching from the sidelines as they rekindled their friendship.
The boys noticed my unease. Yoongi and Jin, in particular, kept casting concerned glances in my direction. But I didn’t want to make a scene or cause any tension, so I plastered on a smile and pretended everything was fine.
During one of our group activities, we went on a hike to a nearby waterfall. It was a beautiful trail, the sound of rushing water growing louder as we approached our destination. The boys were in high spirits, laughing and joking as we walked.
Namjoon and Ji-eun led the group, walking side by side and talking animatedly. I tried to keep up, but the distance between us felt symbolic of the emotional gap I was experiencing.
As we reached the waterfall, the boys spread out, some taking photos, others simply enjoying the view. I found a quiet spot to sit and collect my thoughts, trying to shake off the jealousy that had taken hold of me.
I wasn’t alone for long. Jin, always perceptive, sat down beside me. “You okay, Ava?” he asked gently.
I sighed, feeling the weight of my emotions pressing down on me. “I don’t know, Jin. It’s just… seeing Namjoon with Ji-eun. I know they’re old friends, but it’s hard not to feel left out.”
Jin nodded understandingly. “It’s natural to feel that way. But you should talk to Namjoon about it. He might not even realize how much it’s affecting you.”
I nodded, knowing he was right. “Thanks, Jin. I just don’t want to come across as insecure or jealous.”
“You’re not insecure, Ava,” Jin reassured me. “You care about Namjoon, and it’s okay to feel this way. Just be honest with him.”
That evening, as the sun set and we gathered around a campfire, I found my opportunity to talk to Namjoon. Ji-eun had excused herself to make a phone call, giving us a moment alone.
“Namjoon,” I began hesitantly, “can we talk?”
He looked at me, concern flickering in his eyes. “Of course, Ava. What’s on your mind?”
I took a deep breath, trying to find the right words. “It’s about Ji-eun. I know she’s your friend, and I don’t want to come between that. But seeing you two together, it’s been hard for me.”
Namjoon’s expression softened. “I’m sorry, Ava. I didn’t realize it was bothering you. Ji-eun and I go way back, but you’re the most important person in my life now.”
His words brought a sense of relief, but the jealousy still lingered. “I just feel like I’m competing for your attention, and it’s hard not to feel left out.”
Namjoon reached out, taking my hand in his. “You don’t have to compete, Ava. I’m sorry if I made you feel that way. I care about you deeply, and I want you to feel secure in our relationship.”
His sincerity touched me, and I felt a wave of emotion wash over me. “Thank you, Namjoon. I needed to hear that.”
He pulled me into a gentle embrace, his warmth and reassurance enveloping me. “I promise I’ll be more mindful. Ji-eun is an old friend, but you’re my present and future.”
As we pulled apart, I felt a renewed sense of connection with Namjoon. The jealousy and insecurity began to fade, replaced by a deep appreciation for his understanding and support.
The rest of the evening was spent in a comfortable camaraderie. Ji-eun returned, and I made an effort to get to know her better. She was friendly and genuine, and I realized that my initial jealousy had been unfounded.
The boys, sensing the shift in my mood, were supportive and caring. Jimin’s playful antics and Yoongi’s quiet reassurances helped lighten the atmosphere. Tae’s gentle smiles and Jin’s constant presence made me feel cherished and loved.
As we sat around the campfire, sharing stories and laughter, I felt a renewed sense of belonging. The jealousy that had clouded my heart was replaced by a deep appreciation for the love and support of the boys.
Later that night, as we prepared for bed, Namjoon pulled me aside once more. “I meant what I said earlier, Ava. You’re the most important person in my life. I’ll make sure you never feel left out again.”
I smiled, feeling the warmth of his words. “Thank you, Namjoon. I trust you.”
As we settled into our cozy cabin, surrounded by the boys, I felt a sense of peace and contentment. The journey of Bon Voyage had only just begun, but I knew that with the boys by my side, we could face anything together.
