I Don't Wear Dresses
The rest of the day was a blur because all I could think about was him.
Blake Quinn. Sun tanned skin, dark brown eyes, and dark dark black hair. He can't go a day without Twizzlers.
"Harmony what's wrong with you?" Maddie asked.
"Nothing. Why?" I stated.
"You've been acting weird all morning, I am starting to worry."
Maddie had been my bestie for who knows how long. I have literally been through hell with her. So why couldn't I tell her about what happened with Blake? I mean she already has known I have had a crush on him for like ever.
So I told her about everything even the dissection though, that was the worst part of today so far. When I finished she squealed with glee.
"OMG!!!! I can't believe that happened!! Now you have to talk to him more!!"
"Yeah but Mads, I don't even think he'll remember what happened. Besides doesn't he like that one girl Sam?"
"Maybe he won't if you snag his heart first!" She exclaimed.
"Shut up!" I said.
Then I saw a pair of hands creep around Maddie's waist and embrace her.
Maddie jumped, "Jase I told you not to scare me like that baby."
Then Jase started to kiss all around her neck and shoulders. I looked around the hallway trying not to watch.
"Jase stop we're at school!" She said blushing intensely.
"Then can I come over after school?" He smirked.
"No. I am hanging with Harmony after school. We're going to the mall." She said to him.
Hell no.
"I don't remember agreeing to this." I said staring at her like she just escaped from the looney bin.
"You are going with me to the mall so we can pick out a new outfit for you to wear tomorrow." She said confidently.
"No, why do I have to buy new things to impress some guy?" I pout.
I hate the mall. It is so full of people, smells, and People Smells.
"I'll pay," She looks at me with want "PLEEEAAASSSEEEE?!?!" She shouts for the whole universe to hear.
"Fine but only because I don't want you to yell louder!" I say in a hushed tone so that others don't look at me.
"Yay! Meet me by my car after school!" She says, quieter now but still loud enough so that people can still hear her.
"Ok. Don't do anything with each other until then." I warn. Sometimes I worry to much about Maddie. She has gotten her heart crushed so many times it's hard to count them all.
School ended and I met up with Maddie by her scarlet red pickup truck. We both climbed in and I immediately changed my shoes into the extra pair of flip flops I always kept in her car. My feet always feel better in flip flops.
Maddie turned on the radio to a country station. I HATE COUNTRY MUSIC. Literally all it is about is beer, trucks, and objectifying women. Which I hate all of so I rushed to change the station.
"Mads why do you like country music so much?"
"Because Jase loves it and I love him. Do you want some coffee?" I give her a glare.
"Oh I forgot your highness, you only drink hot cocoa." She states with a fake bow.
"It's not my fault coffee tastes like someone died and threw up all at once."
Mads laughed and pulled into a parking spot.
"Come on loser we're going shopping." She quoted. I love that movie.
We walk into the mall and the first thing I smell is trying to be expensive clothing and an utterly disgusting smell of Starbucks.
"It smells like coffee. There's also like a ton of middle schoolers here... Ugh. " I said over the cheesy music playing from the intercom over head.
"Shut up!!!" She said.
"Alright But can we just go run over to Hot Topic real quick?" I pleaded.
"No we are going to shop at Sears. For a dress." She said.
"Mads you know I hate dress shopping..." I sigh.
"Harmony, please! For me?" she pouted.
"I don't think so. The last time I wore a dress was at his funeral..." Tyler's funeral.
"Come on! Pleaseeeee?" she asks. But this time it infuriates me.
"No!"
"Just once?" She begged.
"I don't think so Maddie. It brings back too many bad memories." I say trying not to tell at her.
"Seriously? You can't do this one thing for me?" I wanted to punch her so bad. But I decided to tell instead.
"THE LAST TIME I WORE A DRESS MY BROTHER WAS BEING LOWERED INTO THE GROUND! DON'T PUSH ME MADDIE! " I yell. I realize that everyone in the store is staring at me.
"Harmony are you okay?" A strangely familiar voice says. I turn around it's Blake Quinn. Blake Quinn.
"Yeah I am fine, sorta." I run my fingers through my hair. He was standing next to a girl with dark brown hair and brown eyes, she was gorgeous. How could I ever measure up to her?
"Are you sure?" He said with concern in his eyes.
"Yes." I snap. I just want to go home.
He grabs my shoulder and leans into my ear "Are you positive? I know you had a bad day."
"Yes, I am my own person and I don't need you or Maddie to become my guardian angel," I back away from him. "I enjoyed the pleasant conversation yesterday Blake, but if you don't want to be my friend then please leave me alone."
He stared at me. Studying me like a bug. I turned around to look at Maddie. She had tears in her eyes and I could see she was trying to not start sobbing.
"Maddie let's go home." Then we went out the door and as soon as we got to her tuck she started sobbing like a lunatic.
What have I done?
