CHAPTER 4
Kuber entered the great hall, greeting everyone with joined hands and a high head. Ganesh followed him behind, a smile was gracing his lips as he too greeted the gods and their goddesses, who joyously reciprocated.
"Swagat hai aap sabhi ka mere Mahabhoj mei !" Kuber said in a booming voice, he then turned to Indra and said, "Suresh, aap devtao ke Raja hone ke karan mere mukhya atithi hai. Mera singhasan grahan kare."
"Kshama kare Kuber. Kintu jab Mahadev aur Mata Parvati ke pratinidhi swaroop, pratham pujya Ganesh yaha upasthit hai, tab Mai kaise mukhya atithi ki padvi par baith sakta hu ? Mukhya atithi toh Gaurinandan hi hai." Indra said.
"Satyavachan !" The rest of the gods and goddesses agreed with him.
"Yadi sabki yahi iccha hai toh uchit hai." Kuber said and then gazed at Ganesh, "Mukhya atithi ke roop mei, aap mere singhasan par virajmaan ho jayiye." He said, pointing at his majestic throne.
Observing the tone of his voice and behavior, all the guests got bewildered. Amarsri gazed at Srinav and whispered, "Kuber ke vaani mei Aisa ahankaar ?"
"Lagta hai inhe apne Anuj ka rog lag gaya hai." Srinav said.
"Kadachit iss hi liye Pitashree Mahadev ne swayam na aake Ganesh ho bhej diya." She guessed.
Srinav nodded as he looked around the place, "Mujhe abhaas ho raha hai ki yaha ki shaanti bhang hone wali hai." He said.
Ganesh, the one who had mastered all forms of virtue, sat down on the throne. His tusk swayed from side to side as if enjoying a melodic rhythm, but his eyes were fixed on Kuber.
At the center of the hall, a magnificent table stretched out, adorned with exquisite silverware, crystal goblets, and plates filled with delicacies fit for divine palates.
The gods took their places at the table, emanating an aura of power and sheer dominance. While the goddesses, with utter reverence etched across their faces, and gracefully seated themselves on the left thigh of their divine partners, symbolizing their eternal bond and oneness.
Kuber clapped his hands, gesturing the attendants to serve the gods and goddesses. The servants obeyed his orders, taking their positions around the hall, ready to cater to the divine guests. They moved down the line, serving each deity with reverence, ensuring to satisfy their individual preferences.
With unwavering adoration, Srinav gazed into Amarsri's eyes, which reflected the vastness of the universe, and offered her the first bite from his own hand. Only when she had completed her bite, he reached for his own portion, taking delicate nibbles with a serene expression.
Beside them Indra was sitting with Indrani over his lap, he too lovingly made her sip the ambroisal somras from his own gem-studded chalice.
Around them, the other deities watched, marveling at the depth of their connections. Some whispered in hushed tones, while others simply basked in the beauty of this intimate gesture.
"Atyant swadisht bhojan hai, aur dijiye Kuber." Ganesh said.
All the gods and goddesses stopped eating for a moment and looked at him bewildered. They had barely begun eating while Ganpati had finished all the food in his plate. Kuber stared at him him with wide eyes, but he quickly regained his composure and gestured the servants to serve more food.
It didn't take Ganesh more than a few moments to again finish all the served food again. Kuber stood their flabbergasted as to how can one eat so fast ?
"Balak Gajanan hetu aur bhojan laao !" Kuber ordered his servants.
Amarsri looked at Srinav who was looking at Ganesh, with an intrigued expression.
"Jaldi yeh bhojan grahan kar lijiye priye. Isse adhik nahi milne wala." She said with a soft chuckle.
"Bhojan se adhik toh mujhe Ganesh ki iss leela mei ruchi hai." He said.
"Tanik aur bhojan dijiye, Kuber." Ganesh said with a smile.
"Ha..." Kuber muttered dumbfounded. He gestured his maids and servants to bring more food.
This went on and on, all the attendants looked visibly tired from continuously serving Ganesh, who now wasn't even taking a moment to finish his meal. One moment they were filling his plate and bowls to the rim, and the very next moment it became empty.
Soon the gods after finishing their food, stood up but Ganesh still sat there eating, his hunger still not satisfied. One by one, the big utensils where food was kept was being emptied.
"Yaksh-raj, samast bhojan samaapt ho gaya." A servant whispered to Kuber.
"Kya ?! Toh aur pakao shigreh ! Yaha ann ki koi kami nahi !" Kuber said.
The servants hurriedly scoured the pantry for ingredients that could be transformed into a delectable meal. The maids dashed to the garden, plucking fresh herbs and vegetables, their nimble hands working swiftly to gather a bountiful harvest.
The kitchen became a whirlwind of activity. The clattering of pots and pans echoed through the space, creating a cacophony of sound that matched the beating hearts of the servants. Steam hissed from boiling pots as ingredients were tossed in with expert hands, creating a symphony of sizzling aromas.
"Mujhe aur bhojan chahiye Kuber !" Ganesh said, his patience running thin due to hunger.
"Aa raha hai dev, aa raha hai." Kuber said anxiously.
"Atithi ko bula ke paryaapt bhojan ka prabandh bhi nahi kar sakte aap !?" Ganesh asked.
"Kshama kare. Hume abhaas nahi tha ki aapko kitna bhojan chahiye. Kintu chinta na kare, mere Alkavati mei ann ki koi kami nahi." Kuber said.
Ganesh raised a brow, "Dekhte hai." He said.
The servants and maids came running in, carrying huge pots of freshly cooked food. They served Ganesh, but his hunger so increased that he completed all the food in the blink of an eye. And within few moments, all the utensils once again became empty.
"Mujhe aur bhojan chahiye Kuber !" Ganesh blazed in anger.
"Socha tha Kuber ka ahankaar tutega kintu yeh toh badi aapda mei pad gaye." Amarsri said.
"Ahankar sadev aapda ko hi nimantran deta hai." Srinav said.
"Satyavachan." She said.
Ganesh stood up from his seat and glared at Kuber, who joined his trembling hands, "Tumhare Alkavati mei ann ki kami nahi hai na ! Toh chalo !" He said.
He walked ahead angrily as the nervous Kuber followed him behind. Ganesh went to the ann-grah of Kuber, where heaps of grains, of every variety, were kept.
Ganesh took on a mighty size, Kuber stared at his colossal form with wide eyes. With a strong pull of air from his trunk, Ganesh sucked all the grains in his mouth. And within a few moments the entire ann-grah became empty, not even a single grain was left. Kuber stood there speechlessly.
"Tumne toh kaha tha ki tumhare paas ann ki kami nahi, lekin ann-grah toh khaali ho gaya ! Kintu meri bhook shaant nahi huyi !" Ganesh said angrily.
"Mere paas dene ko kuch nahi hai prabhu ! Mera sara ann khatam ho gaya. Aur ann nahi hai mere paas !" Kuber said joining his hands.
"Yadi ann nahi toh mai tumhara dhankosh khaa jayunga !" Ganesh said.
"Mera Dhankosh !? Nahi prabhu !" Kuber pleaded getting on his knees.
But it was too late as Ganesh left the place without heeding to him. Kuber ran behind Ganesh but couldn't keep up with the gigantic form of his, and by the time he reached his treasury, it was already empty. Lambodar had eaten all his wealth up.
"Aur bhojan laao Kuber !" Ganesh roared.
"Prabhu aapne mera sara ann khaa liya, sara dhan khaa liya, mere paas ab kuch nahi bacha aapko dene ke liye !" Kuber said
"Mai tumhara atithi hu ! Meri bhook shaant karna tumhara kartavya hai ! Yadi tum mere liye bhojan nahi laaye Kuber, TOH MAI TUMHE HI KHAA JAYUNGA !" Ganesh threatened.
Kuber's eyes widened and his jaw dropped. He quickly ran away from there, not knowing where to find more food.
"Devi ! Dev !" He ran towards Amarsri and Srinav after spotting them walking up to their vahans, outside.
"Kya huya Kuber ?" Srinav asked, although knowing everything exactly.
"Aapke Anuj ne vikraal roop dharan kar liya hai, woh keh rahe hai ki yadi maine unhe aur bhojan jaake nahi diya, toh woh mujhe khaa lenge !" Kuber said panicking.
"Iske liye aapko Mata Parvati se sahayata maangni chahiye. Keval wahi aapko utna bhojan de sakti hai, jitne mei Ganesh ki bhook shaant ho jaaye." Amarsri advised.
"Uchit hai." Kuber said.
