(4) Guilt

(A/N: I just wanna say that I have no plans for this story. Uhh, I'm just gonna go along with it.)

Stan's P.O.V.

That night, I finally fell asleep earlier than usual. I felt better. More refreshed, but my addicition was kicking in. I woke up with the sunlight beaming in my face through the curtains.

I forgot that I amended things with Kyle. I'm glad he accepted me and is trying to help me. I needed someone like him in my life. And besides, I needed my best friend back in my life.

I checked the time on my phone and realized it was 6:45 A.M. and since I was awake, I decided to go get dressed for another day of school. Might as well, since I'm starting to get my life on the right track and Kyle agreed to help me through it.

I tried to sit up and felt Kyle pull me back down by my shirt, with a grunt. I assumed he was sound asleep, but I guess I was wrong."Kyle, we have school. C'mon." I informed Kyle, lightly pushing on his shoulder.

"Let's miss a day." Kyle mummbled. This was a shocker. Kyle never wants to skip school. But I've missed a lot. I needed to go, but I could skip one more, I suppose.

We slept on the same couch due to laziness and the current comfort of the previous night.

We laid there for what felt like 30 minutes but in all actuallity was 2 hours.

"Stan," Kyle called, breaking the silence. "Hmm?" I replied. "I- uhm.." "uhm?" I questioned his starter. "It's nothing. Nevermind." Kyle wrapped up his thoughts. I wondered what he had to say and curiousity creeped upon me.

"You know you can tell me. But if you don't want to that's fine. I won't force you." I comforted his vacillating self. "Thanks." Kyle mummbled, sitting himself up on the couch.

I watched his movements as he grabbed his phone from the table ahead. It started to ring as Kyle took his phone and walked outside to take a phone call.

I couldn't decipher much of what was said from his side, opposed to a few "I know, I know,"'s. It could reasonably be his mother, asking why she recieved a phone call about his absence.

Sheila was always worried and overprotective about Kyle. He couldn't be out late past 8 p.m., he couldn't have many friends come over, he couldn't stay awake past 9 p.m., even on weekends. He always had to return his phone to his parents before falling asleep.

It was normal, but she overreacted.

Kyle walked back in with a semi-frown placed on his lips. "What's up?" I asked worriedly. "Just.. Shiela." Kyle said, with a one word explanation. It was strange. He never uses his mother's first name.

"What bitchy thing did she say this time?" I asked, with annoyance to my voice. "She's just pissed that I missed today," go figure. "-and that I'm over here.." Kyle mummbled nearly inaduiable, but I caught it. "But mainly because I missed school."

"Why is she pissed that you're over here?" I was confused. Kyle's mom never minded him coming over but now she did?

"Just something I told her.. It's just- nevermind." Kyle explained nervously and faintly. "Oh.. Okay." Dysphoria began to fill my vocalization. I led guilt into my mind, thinking it was my fault that Kyle couldn't stay like he used to.

Kyle probably told his mom that I've been skipping and turning to the negative path. Therefore, her thinking I'm a bad influence for Kyle.

But she isn't wrong.

I don't understand why Kyle still hangs around me. Especially after last night. He had all right to leave, yet he stayed.

Hmm..

Kyle sat by me on the couch again "So, are you staying over today, or does she want you back at school?" I offered, still feeling guilty.

"I'd rather stay.." Kyle's voice began to dim.

"But what does she want?" I demanded. "She wants me back at school, but said I could only stay today and be home by 8 P.M." He looked down.

"Well lets go do.. something!! I don't want to waste the day, if we're not gonna be able to see eachother for a while!!" I jumped up. "Besides, we need to 'not' be so depressed all the time." I spoke, awkwardly.

"I guess you're right," Kyle looked up and shot me a warm smile.

We both headed outside to his car and I asked if I could drive. I had a license, and I wasn't necessarily bad at driving, Kyle was just simply better. He threw his keys at me and I caught them with a tight grasp.

I hopped in the drivers seat and fasened my seatbelt. Kyle did the same. "So where are we going?" I asked, making eye contact with him.

He shrugged "I dunno, Skating Rink sounds fun." Kyle suggested. My eyes became half lidded with a serious look. "Some place without money?" I sarcastically asked. He then held up his wallet with savings he had from an allowance.

I nodded and placed my hands on the steering wheel. "Fair enough," I said, putting the engine in reverse, pulling out of my messy yard.

The ride was silent other than the radio playing some old tune neither of us knew. Kyle reached to change the station as he left it be when he heard the beginning beats of"Sleeping with Sirens - If You Can't Hang"

I knew this song pretty well, but I had no clue if Kyle knew it, and just picked it because it sounded cool.

I noticed him starting to whisper along with the lyrics and knew he knew it, but was just too shy.

"Met a girl at seventeen,
Thought she meant the world to me,
So, I gave her everything,
She turned out to be a cheap."

I began, and glanced at Kyle, bringing him out of his shell to sing along if he knew it.

"Said she'd been thinkin' for a long time,
But she found somebody new.
I've been thinkin' 'bout this whole time,"

I continued alone.

"Well, I never thought you'd stay,
That's okay,
I hope you'll be taped down by the heart and when he throws you away some day,
before you go- oh,
there's one thing you oughta know- oh"

Kyle finally joined along with me.

"If you can't hang then, there's the door- baby, if you can't hang then, there's the door, maybe if you can't hang then, there's the door. baby, if you can't hang, then, there's the door"

We sang in sync. I didn't sound perfect, but Kyle sang it surprisingly well. I started glancing at him to see if he was holding his throat to adjust his tone, or moving his posture, but no. He was slouching, tapping his foot to the rythm, and has it perfectly in his voice as a gifted talent.

"I- don't take your precious time.
'Cause you're such a pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty face,
Well you turned into a pretty big waste of my time."

"I- don't wanna take up all your time.
'Cause you're such a pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty face,
Well you turned into a pretty big waste of my time."

We continued to sing, avoiding high notes, and making them low, so we wouldn't sound completely horrible, though, Kyle sounded great.

I missed the next verse, due to driving safely, but Kyle sang very faded when I stopped singing.

I picked up on a sooner verse, and Kyle joined me.

"Met a girl at 23
No, she meant the world to me,
So I gave her everything,
And she did the same for me."

I sang quietly and out of the corner of my eyes, I noticed Kyle looking at me while singing, as if it was directed towards me.

We didn't sing the next line, due to it being a loud scream and just laughed our asses off as the light voiced male sang on the radio.

We decided to sing the outro together,

"Baby, If you keep stayin',
Come inside,
Baby if you keep stayin',
Please be mine,
Baby, if you keep stayin',
Come inside,
Baby if you keep stayin',
Please be mine.."

I noticed him do the same thing again. Again. Again- I began to think, but was distracted when Kyle soon turned down the radio before another song began to play.

He began to giggle at the way we sang together. "That was great, dude-" I started up. "Yeah," Kyle said between two giggles.

We were still a ways away from the Skating Rink as we listened to a few more songs. Kyle was pointing out lost directions that I forgot.

Eventually, we arrived. I could tell this would be fun; we haven't done anything together in literal years.

(A/N: hiss, I feel like this chapter was horrible, but just w h a t e v e r —)
