Chapter 4
Naushad could see the blood drained out of Meher's face! He notices how she is trying to resist her shivering. He finds it weird. Even if she is into a relationship and have stepped one step ahead in the relationship but why is she afraid of getting caught by him to this extent? He understands what was brewing up between them! But that's okay if she has finally got someone to be with. After all nothing has been exchanged verbally between them. But who are you kidding Naushad? Even if nothing has been exchanged verbally, but does that give her the freedom to get away from the silent and secret relationship that she shares with you?
Your relationship with her was based on 'trust', 'faith' and 'belief'!
Arwa broke your trust, faith and belief and you hate her to the core today. Meher today did the same but here you are sitting like a fool making her to understand that that's fine to love someone else after giving hope to someone already that you have feelings for him?
How according to you Meher differs to Arwa now?
"Doc... Dr. Rizvi... main...",
Meher begins nervously her eyes glued to the packet under his hand.
Suddenly she remembers everything and gets an anxiety attack.
"Doc... Dr. Mirza... are you... Meher... kya hua...??",
asks Naushad, his broken words reflect his tensed and nervous state at this moment, concerned about Meher's well being.
He gets up and tries to hold her to help her get relaxed but she shrugs off his hand with a jerk!
This comes as a surprise for Naushad.
"Don't... don't touch me...",
says Meher, as her whole body goes through shivers as he touches her. Her heartbeat increases all the more. Her muscle cells of her arms contracts out of fear of his touch! She goes through the state of anxiety, never looking towards Naushad out of nervousness.
Naushad submits to her demand and stops himself from going closer to her. But his eyes constant on her to make sure that she is fine.
"I... I need to go... I am sorry!",
saying so she gets up but her eyes fall on the packet produced by Naushad. It makes her feel dizzy. Before she could walk few steps, she collapses on the floor.
"Meher...!",
shouts Naushad in horror and gets down to her.
All others in the canteen crowd around Naushad and Meher.
"It's.. it's okay...! Aap log please bheed mat lagayiye. Get back to your work, now!",
orders Naushad.
All giving nervous looks to both Naushad and Meher leave.
Tensed Naushad takes Meher's right hand in between his palms and rub it vigorously to get her back into senses, staring her with knitted brows, anxious to get any sign of her getting back to senses. But alas! he gets none!
He gets up and quickly shoves the packet of contraceptive into his pocket. Getting down back, he picks her into his arms and quickly walks towards an empty bed in the hospital.
All passersby stare them - few in horror; few in disbelief; few find it romantic and gets assured that they surely share a bond which is more than friendship!
Unaware of their thoughts; unconcerned about the thoughts of the people around them, Naushad with full grace and confidence, yet nervousness intact for Meher, walks towards a room where he places her onto an empty bed. All patients get worried and concerned on discovering their favourite Dr. Meher Didi occupying a bed along side theirs!
Doing so, Dr. Naushad asks for a stethoscope, shouting,
"Stethoscope!"
Not having patience, he shouts again, raising his voice, never looking away from Meher,
"Stethoscope, quick!"
One of the doctors standing there, quickly and nervously extends his stethoscope. Not caring to know who gave him the stethoscope, never looking away from Meher, Dr. Naushad puts the stethoscope into his ears and starts checking her heartbeat.
Having done that, he warns all,
"Koi bheed nahi lagayega yahan!",
and quickly leaves for his cabin to get an injection.
Returning back as fast as he could, he fills the injection with the required medicine and injects it into Meher's arm.
Having done that he orders all to leave and tells them that he shall stay with her until she gets back into senses.
As they leave, Naushad again turns back towards Meher with knitted brows. He slowly holds her wrist and examines it. He did notice the bruises while injecting her, but he chose to stay quiet in front of all!
The anxiety attack! Her refusal to stay around him! Her constant resisting him! He isn't a fool to not understand what these symptoms lead to! After all he is a doctor and has gone through these situations ample times. But when it comes to your dear ones you tend to ignore what the symptoms are leading towards, out of fear. But truth is truth! Nothing can change it!
He slowly raises his eyes from her bruised wrist to her face. He remembers how she was trying to hide her face with her hair. He found it odd! Is there something hidden there? His heart starts beating frantically. He understands this won't turn out to be a pleasant surprise, rather a painful one, really painful!
Holding his breath, his brows knit together, Naushad slowly takes his hand towards her face and with his right hand's index finger removes her hair off her face! And what he discovers shocks him!
What are these bruises for? The one on her face is much deeper than the bruises in her wrist. His heart contracts as the feeling of hurt and pain surges through him!
Who did this to her? Why didn't he notice? Why didn't she tell him?
So many questions cross his mind at the same time!
'Trust'! 'Faith'! 'Belief'! have these words ceased to exist? Couldn't she trust him without worrying about all negative things? Couldn't she lay her faith in him for once? Belief, is it that difficult to believe him?
"Kyun Meher?",
he asks her, forcing the words out of his choked throat. His burning with anger eyes, staring her. Anger not only because she didn't share but towards the culprit too!
'He won't leave that bastard!',
he promises himself; he promises her silently!
The buzzing of Meher's mobile distracts Naushad. At first he gets nervous about checking her mobile, this could be the culprit! Nervous, not because he is afraid of him! Nervous, because he doesn't know what he might end up saying to him if he checks the name of the caller! Nervous, because he doesn't know what he might end up doing if that filthy thing ever comes across him!
Calming down himself he slowly takes his hand into her coat's pocket and brings out the mobile, slowly. He checks the name flashing on the screen.... Jannat calling!
Naushad exhales the breath he had been holding, on discovering the name of the caller. Shaking his head into negative, a calm smile stretches on his face. He looks towards Meher and shoves it back into her pocket without receiving it.
Doing that he leaves!
After an hour Meher wakes up. At first she feels dizzy and tries to adjust in her surrounding. As she gains her consciousness completely she realizes that she is in the hospital only, but not as a doctor but as a patient! This scares her. She gets up with a jerk and it makes her to feel dizzy again, she holds her forehead, pressing it.
Slowly she gets down and was about to walk that her phone buzzes she checks it and finds Bano's name flashing on the screen. She receives the call,
"Hello!"
"Hello Didi! Kahan thi aap? Kitne calls kiye apko. Kitni fikr ho rahi thi apki. Aap phone kyun nahi utha rahi thi?",
asks Bano in a single breath.
Her concern touches Meher's heart. She understands Bano's juzzbaatt behind this scolding. This brings a smile on Meher's face. Then slowly it vanishes as she realizes that it is this juzzbaatt only that she is afraid to disclose the truth in from of the others in her family! It was this juzzbaatt only that she chose to hide it from her sisters too! But alas! now they know it all.
"Bano! Bano! Bano! Main bilkul theek hun. Fikr mat karo.",
she says, smiling politely.
"Kaise fikr na karun? Ek to main chahti hi nahi thi ke aap aj hospital jao, aap fir bhi zid karke gayi. Kya mila apko wahan ja kar?",
she asks, pissed off.
"Sukoon!!",
says Meher, smiling, sighing.
And as she says this Naushad's face floats in front of her eyes, a sad smile stretches on her face and a knot forms in her throat.
That's true that she was being skeptical about facing him but she came to hospital today to get away from this feeling of dilemma about facing him. Now that she has finally faced him, even though it didn't turn out to be a great meeting but she is relaxed! Relaxed that now she wouldn't have to be worried about facing him. This feeling was killing her all the more. At least now the torture has slowed down. Or may be she has gotten used to his questioning eyes now!
"Sukoon?",
asks Bano, surprised.
Her voice drags Meher out of her reverie. She gets scared, how to explain Bano now?
"Matlab Di? Kis baat ka sukoon?",
asks Bano.
Nervous, Meher quickly tries to think of a reason,
"Ahmm... sukoon... sukoon iss baat ka ke ab mera dimag unn baaton par nahi ja raha. Kaam mein mann lagane ki koshish kar rahi hun."
"Oh! Acha laga ye jaan kar Didi.",
says Bano, relaxed that her sister is coping up fine.
"Acha Didi ab main phone rakhti hun. Aap apna khyal rakhna.",
says Bano.
"Haan",
smiles Meher unwillingly, and ends the call.
~*~*~
Slowly she reaches to the room where Naushad is conducting their theory class.
"And the symptoms are...",
his chain of words breaks as he realizes her presence around himself.
Naushad turns to look towards the entrance and finds Meher standing there. They stare each other. Meher's heart skips a beat witnessing that look of withdrawal in his eyes. Is he angry on her? All her classmates turn to look towards her.
She slowly gets into the room, Naushad doesn't fail to notice the way she is walking towards him. Her way of walking has changed for sure! He turns his hands into fists, controlling his anger in front of others.
With her eyes lowered, she reaches him and asks his permission to leave for home.
"Dr. Rizvi... I... I have got a call, I need to go back to home, it's urgent."
Naushad, without looking away from her even for a moment, his face expression all serious, replies,
"Theek hai Dr. Mirza, you may go!"
"Thank you.",
saying so, she looks towards him sheepishly. They stare each other for brief moments, quickly she lowers her eyes. Turning, she leaves for home.
As she exits the room, her phone buzzes she discovers it's Amaal.
"Hello"
"Hello Didi kaisi hain aap?"
"Main theek hun Amaal. Bus ghar aa rahi hun thodi der mein."
"Ghar? Itni jaldi?",
asks Amaal, surprised.
"Mera matlab ye to achi baat hai ke aap ghar aa rahi hain, par jis tarah aap zid karke aaj gayin mujhe laga aap hospital mein zada acha mehsus kar rahi hongi."
"Haan Amaal acha to lag raha tha. Par ab tired feel kar rahi hun."
This contracts Amaal's heart.
"I can understand Didi! Kuch din thodi weekness rahegi. Jaldi tired bhi ho jaoge. Chalo aap please dhyan se aana.",
smiles Amaal.
Meher feels touched by her gesture, she really has grown up!
"Ji Amaal Didi!",
mocks Meher, to relax Amaal.
Amaal does smile but still her tension persists, she smiles only for her Meher Didi.
"Khuda hafiz!",
says Amaal.
"Khuda hafiz!",
replies Meher
They end the call.
~*~*~
After ending the call Amaal calls Jannat. Jannat who was discussing Meher with Raghu, checks the name of the caller,
"Amaal?",
and looks towards Raghu.
Receiving the call she says,
"Hello!"
"Hello Jannat Didi wo maine abhi Meher Didi ko call kiya tha..."
"Meher! Kya hua Meher ko?",
asks Jannat raising her voice, getting tensed.
Hearing her, Raghu gets tensed too.
"Nahi Meher Didi ko kuch nahi hua. Wo actually ghar aa rahi hain, to mujhe laga agar aap unhe lene ja sakti to..."
"Main chali jati par yahan photoshoot mein busy hun main to...",
says Amaal honestly and apologetically.
"Tum... Tum fikr mat karo, main ja rahi hun abhi Meher ko lene!",
assures Jannat.
"Thanks Didi. Acha main rakhti hun. Khuda hafiz",
says Amaal and ends the call.
"Khuda hafiz",
replies Jannat, tensed about Meher.
~*~*~
Meher's phone rings again. She surely
is pissed off. She hasn't been able to reach the gate of the hospital too because of her slow speed and for toppings are these calls - one after the other. Not only physically but mentally too she is tired.
She checks the phone.
Jannat Calling...
She stands at a corner in the hospital, leaning against the wall and receives the call.
"Hello!",
says Meher.
"Tum ghar aa rahi ho? Tabiyat theek nahi lag rahi kya?",
asks Jannat, raising her voice out of anxiety.
"Nahi tabiyat theek hai bus thodi tired feel kar rahi hun.",
replies Meher.
"Tumne mujhe kyun nahi bataya ke tum wapas aa rahi ho? Main lene aa jati! Tum ek kaam karo tum wohin ruko main abhi lene aati hun.",
says Jannat, getting ready to leave.
"Jannat! Jannat! Please... it's okay. Main aa jaungi. Tum fizul mein itni tension le rahi ho.",
assures Meher.
"Par Meher..."
"Jannat please, main iss situation se khud larhna chahti hun. God forbids, agar tum kisi crises mein ho kya tum chahogi ke hum teeno mein se koi bhi tang ho tumhare crises se?"
"Meher lekin this is different, please..."
"Kuch different nahi hai! Mujhe please deal karne do Jannat. Dekho main janti hun ki meri behne humesha mere saath hain. Aur yakeen mano mujhe jab bhi help ki zarurat hogi main zarur bataungi tum sub ko. Par abhi let me deal with this please.",
smiles Meher, sorrowfully.
Sighing, tensed still, Jannat says,
"Theek hai Meher. Par promise ke tumhe kabhi bhi meri zarurat ho to tum zarur bataogi mujhe!"
"I promise!",
smiles Meher.
"Ahmm... Jannat... ek baat bolni thi...",
says Meher, nervously.
"Haan Meher bolo.",
Jannat gets tensed, sensing her nervousness.
"Ahmm... dekho please tension mat lena... but main tumse chupana bhi nahi chahti...",
says Meher, nervously.
"Kya baat hai Meher? Kya usne tumhe firse call kiya?",
asks Jannat, getting anxious.
"Nahi... nahi... aisa... aisa kuch nahi hai!",
assures Meher.
"Fir?",
asks Jannat.
"Jannat main... main abhi... it's like thodi tired ho gayi thi to... behosh ho gayi thi...!",
confesses Meher, shutting her eyes, holding her breath.
"Meherrrrr!!!",
exclaims Jannat.
Raghu gets tensed too. Jannat assures him that she can handle this as for now.
"Meher! Tum... tum wahin rukko main abhi aa rahi hun.",
says Jannat sternly.
"Nahi Jannat it's okay! Tum..."
Meher gets intervened by Jannat,
"Main kuch nahi sunn rahi. Jab tak main wahan na aa jaun, tab tak tum kahin nahi ja rahi. That's an order Meher!",
saying so Jannat doesn't waste time and ends the call.
"Jan...",
Meher begins but soon hears the beep sound, Jannat has ended the call already!
~*~*~
Soon Jannat reaches the hospital and the first one she collides with is none other than Dr. Rizvi.
"Hello!",
Jannat smiles politely.
"Hi!",
smiles Naushad, politely.
"Miss Mirza aap yahan?",
he asks.
"Haan wo... Meher ko lene ayi thi!",
she smiles.
That makes Naushad tensed.
"Dr. Meher ko? Wo gayi nahin abhi tak?",
asks Naushad, astonished not in a pleasant way.
"Haan... haan wo maine hi usse mana kiya tha. Darasal main yahin paas hi mein kisi kaam se ayi thi, to socha Meher ke saath hi wapas laut jaungi. Mujhe kaam mein thoda time lag gaya to... wo wait kar rahi hogi mera.",
Jannat makes an excuse.
Naushad stares her, smiling.
"Jannat, apno ke liye jhoot bolna achi baat hai. Par kisi galat baat par parda dalna, ye acha nahi hai!",
says Naushad, shaking his head into negative, staring Jannat throughout.
Jannat lowers her eyes. She has always found Naushad a good person. She accepts what he said is true!
"Please take care of her!",
he says looking into Jannat's eyes.
Jannat could read perfectly his sincerity and desperation behind those words.
Jannat gives him an assuring smile.
As the situation gets tense and awkward between them, Jannat tries to cool it down and asks,
"Aap aa rahe hain na shaam ko?",
and smiles politely.
"Ji!",
smiles Naushad politely.
"Alright aap jaiyiye. Dr. Mirza apka wait kar rahi hongi.",
he suggests politely.
Smiling, Jannat leaves.
~*~*~
On their way back to home, Jannat asks Meher,
"Dawayi li aur?"
This increases Meher's heartbeat.
"Badi... kya hua?",
asks Jannat, concerned, rubbing Meher's back.
Looking towards her Meher starts crying and hugs her tight.
"Badi... Badi kya hua? Tum ro kyun rahi ho?",
asks Jannat, tensed, trying to calm Meher down.
Getting away and relaxing a little, Meher tells Jannat,
"Dr... Dr. Rizvi ne contraceptives ke packets dekh liye!",
and Meher cries bitterly.
"Allah!",
swears Jannat.
"Isliye wo... iss tarah se baat kar rahe the!!!",
says Jannat, remembering her earlier conversation with Naushad.
"Baat? Konsi baat?",
asks Meher, looking towards Jannat, surprised.
"Wo kuch keh rahe the ke 'Jannat, apno ke liye jhoot bolna achi baat hai. Par kisi galat baat par parda dalna, ye acha nahi hai!'",
says Jannat recollecting his words.
Then turns to look towards Meher in horror, and asks,
"Badi tumne unhe kuch bataya kya?"
Meher stares Jannat, widening her eyes,
"Kaisi baat kar rahi ho tum Jannat? Main unhe kaise...!! Aur waise bhi agar unhe pata chala to...",
she ends up crying again.
"Meher... Badi please ro mat!",
Jannat rubs off her tears and hugs her.
