The group all made their way into Seb's family farm, holding lanterns as the sounds and smells of the farm animals filled the room.
"Why do I hear sheep but don't see sheep?" Ashlyn asked, grabbing onto Big Red's arm.
"Oh, that's Jimmy. He has social anxiety," Seb explained with a smile.
'Well, I'm team Jimmy," Kourtney said, shaking her head. "I don't camp, glamp or sleep without a silk pillowcase."
"I'm with Kourt on this one," Soul said, standing across from her beside Seb and EJ.
The sound of Jimmy bleating filled the room, causing EJ to let out a scream as he cked, causing everyone to chuckle at the boy.
"Listen, I'm sure Seb, Gina and Soul have a good reason for bringing us to his barm so late, on a school night," Ricky said, gesturing towards the Trio as they stood in a line. "Not that I mind the romantic setting."
"Romantic is debatable, but I like where you're headed." Nini said, agreeing with the boy.
"Okay, so we gathered you guys here tonight 'cause me and Soul had this idea," GIna explained, trailing off looking towards Seb and Soul, causing Soul to nod in response.
"Yeah, and because we only have 48 hours to pull it off, it's gonna take all of us to make it happen." Soul said, finishing Gina's thought as she looked around at the group.
"The whole family," Seb spoke up from between the two girls with a big grin. "So, I talked to Sina aka Soul and Gina, and we thought we could throw a big surprise party to celebrate the guy Carlos is."
"And a quinceanero he always wanted and never got," Gina added. "It's a birthday party but seriously zhuzhed up, 'cause Carlos is one of the good guys."
"Okay, someone please say something because maybe this is a terrible idea?" Soul said, looking over at Seb and Gina before looking around at everyone as no one had said anything.
"It's an amazing idea. I'm in!" Nini said, excitedly as everyone else quickly agreed.
"Oh, thank god," Soul said, causing the trio to smile as they all let out a sigh of relief.
"For, Carlos." Ricky said his hand in the middle of the group.
"For Carlos!" Everyone yelled, putting their hands in.
...
Soul was sitting at her bay window, her back pressed against the wall as she sat with her guitar on her legs as she lazily strummed it, looking out her window as she lightly sang.
I don't really like big crowds
I tend to shut people out
I like my space, yeah
But I'd love to have soulmate
And god'll give him to me someday
And i know, it'll be worth the wait
Because, sometimes I just want somebody to hold
Someone to give me their jacket when it's cold
Got that young love even when we're old
Yeah, sometimes, i want someone to grab my hand
Pick me up, pull me close, be my man
I will love you till the end
The sound of a light knock came from the girl's door, causing her to stop strumming as her head shot over to the door as her mom's head popped in as she smiled.
"Hey, bug," Mom said, walking into the room, pushing the door up a little as she made her way across the room as she sat on the side of Soul's bed, facing her daughter. "What was that you were singing, it was pretty?"
"Thanks. It's just something I've been writing," Soul said, shrugging her shoulders, sitting her guitar against the wall beside her as she turned to face her mom. "So, what's up?"
"Oh, right!" Mom excitedly said, smiling big, turning to the brown paper bag. "Well I was at the thrift store and saw these beautiful things and thought you could use it as some party decor."
Mom then pulled out dancing statues, women wearing big red dresses with blue and yellow stripes with white lace around the bottom along with flowers in their hair.
"Oh my god, Mom these are perfect!" Soul said, grabbing one of the dancers from her mom as she looked at it.
"I thought so too. I saw it and I immediately thought of Carlos and when he always came over with you as you danced through the house in dresses before you know..." Mom said, trailing off, causing Soul. "He definitely is something special."
"That he is," Soul said to herself as she smiled, standing as she pulled her mom into a tight hug. "Thanks mom, I really appreciate it!"
"Of course, anything for my beautiful babies," Mom said, placing her hand on Soul's cheek as she smiled, letting her go. "Well, I should let you get ready for your party, you are an amazing friend, Carlos is lucky to have you."
I'm lucky to have him," Soul said, sending her mom a smile as she sent her one in return as she turned and passed Sam as he made his way towards Soul's door.
"Hey, are you about ready?" Sam asked, stepping into the room, swinging his key on his pointer finger, since he was dropping her off.
"Yeah, just give me one minute so I can change into my dress," Soul said, causing him to nod.
"I'll wait for you downstairs," Sam said, causing Soul to nod, causing him to close the door as Soul made her way to her bathroom.
She quickly changed into her maroon off the shoulder dress that was high in the front and lower in the back, quickly fixing her hair in the mirror.
She quickly made her way back into her room as she laced up her black high heeled booties, grabbing her bag, her gift for Carlos and the bag of little dancers as she made her way out of her room and down the stairs.
"Ok, I'm ready," Soul said, stepping down the last stair, seeing Sam and her mom sitting on the couch as Sully and his friends sat around the table playing DND.
"You look amazing, Soul," Mom said, placing her hand over her mouth.
"Thanks, mom," Soul said, pulling her mom into a tight hug before turning to Sam. "We should get going."
"That we should," Sam said, standing up from his spot on the couch, turning to his brother and his friends. "Alright nerd herd, see you later."
"Samuel, be nice to your brother." Mom said, sternly.
"Yes, ma'am," Sam said, saluting to his mom, walking at the front door.
"Tell Carlos, Happy Birthday for me," Mom said, turning to Soul, causing the girl to nod in response. "Have fun."
"Bye, Mom," Soul said, kissing her mother on the cheek before quickly following her brother out the door. "Good luck with the campaign!"
...
Soul made her way into Seb's barn, looking around noticing everything was basically done.
"Woah, Big Red really does move fast," Soul said to herself, looking around the barn, seeing him hanging decorations with Kourtney and Nini.
Soul turned around and walked over to the tables as she placed out the dancers on the tables as she smiled at how they looked.
"Those look amazing!" Gina said, happily from behind the girl, causing Soul to quickly turn around as a smile grew on her face. "But so do you!"
"Gina! This place looks amazing!" Soul said, quickly wrapping her hands around the girl, pulling her into a tight hug. "But I thought we weren't meeting till 6:30 to decorate?"
"No, I only told you that because of how hard you have been working putting everything together for this quinceanero. I mean you have been all over this town finding decorations, making the banner, getting Carlos' favorite cake," Gina said, grabbing onto the girls arm with a huge smile. "I mean the least we could do was decorate."
"Aw, that's sweet! Thank you," Soul said, sending the girl a smile before letting out a gasp. "How is your song and dance! Are you ready?"
"Yeah, I am. I was just backstage rehearsing with the guys to make sure it's perfect for Carlos." Gina said, causing Soul to aw. "He deserves nothing but the best."
"That he does," Soul said, agreeing as both of their phones buzz, causing them to look at eachother with a smile.
"They're coming!" They say together, causing them both to chuckle as they split way's, going to tell everyone else before everyone made their way to the doors as they waited for Seb's cue.
"Open the doors!" Seb yelled from the other side of the doors, causing Ricky and EJ to quickly pull open the doors to reveal a very excited Seb and a surprised Carlos holding hands.
"Happy Birthday, Carlos!" Everyone exclaimed, causing the boy to smile.
"Wait, this can't be happening," Carlos said, touching his head that was covered by a hat as he turned to Seb.
"It is," Seb said excitedly, gesturing towards the group with a giant smile.
"I'm not wearing a party outfit," Carlos said, pouting.
"Don't worry buddy, we got you covered," Soul said, smiling at Carlos, causing him to smile back as he walked in to greet everyone before going to change, leaving everyone to converse while they waited for him.
"Hey," Soul heard, as someone touched her shoulder, causing her to turn around, coming face to face with EJ.
"EJ, hi!," Soul said, pulling the boy into a hug. "I was wondering when you were going to get away from your camera, I didn't want to interrupt whatever you were doing. It seemed important."
"Oh, I'm making Carlos a birthday tribute video, you know, interviewing people about their relationship with Carlos," EJ explained.
"Aw, that's so sweet," Soul said, before being able to say anything Gina came rushing up to the girl, dressed in her performance outfit.
"Soul, I need your help!" Gina said, talking really fast as she looked upset. "I have a big problem."
"Slow down, what's wrong?" Soul asked, concerned.
"Stephani just called and said she couldn't make it because she was sick and now I'm down a dancer," Gina said. "I can't perform without her!"
"I can fill in for her, I mean I know that dance. You have her costume right?" Soul asked, causing Gina to nod quickly, as Soul looked back at EJ. "Sorry, I have to run. Catch you later for that interview?"
"Yeah, of course. I'll be here," EJ said, causing the girl to smile at him before rushing off with Gina as EJ turned away as he whispered to himself. "Of course, you'll be here, idiot."
Not long after Ricky and Nini made their way onto the stage as everyone took their seats.
"Yes, Nini and Ricky!" Kourtney yelled as everyone cheered.
"Hey everyone! I think I kinda you know..." Nini said, teasingly into the mic as she looked up at Ricky.
"It's Carlos' quincenero!" Ricky said, causing the group once again to cheer. Ricky looked over to the side of the stage. "Gina get on up here!"
Soul gave Gina one more supportive smile before she made her way onto the stage.
"Testing, testing." Gina spoke into her mic. "Carlos Rodriguez, we, um, haven't always seen eye-to-eye when it comes to running rehearsals and honestly, I sorta had no idea what to get you tonight. And then Soul and Sebbie showed me that clip of you in seventh grade dancing. I was like.. 'Oh, okay, so we're actually the same.' because I remember where I was in seventh grade, or, uh, all the places that I was that year and I would just dance and dance alone in my bedroom to stay busy and escape. But the difference between us is, I never would have put this out into the world and I never would have left that up on instagram after some of the comments you got... haters gonna hate. Anyways, um, tonight i'm recreating your dance because, we might not share a choreography brain, but I think you know we share a dancer's heart. No matter what happens tomorrow or the day after that, just keep on dancing."
Everyone cheered for the girl as the video of a younger Carlos began playing on the screen.
"Hello, world," Seventh grade Carlos said, waving to the camera. "This is a time capsule because someday I hope I am studied. It is almost my thirteenth birthday, and in some cultures that makes me a man. As a man I demand the following gifts for my birthday; a new phone, a Tony, and someday... I'm putting this out there early, a quinceanero. Now, please enjoy this dance I made up. It's on fleek."
Young Carlos began to do what seemed to be the cha-cha before Gina quickly stepped in and somewhat followed but recreating the dance.
It's time to turn it up
Let the music take over your body
And dance like everyone's watching
Your moves inspire me
To be the best i can be
Not alone, but in harmony, fearlessly
This rhythm's hot like the sun
Don't you dare disagree
If you think so, come and join me
When you move, i move, we move
Together as one
It don't matter who you are
When we dance, we're all stars
Different in so many ways, but when we hit the stage
We all share the same thing
A dancer's heart
The truth in every turn
One, two step, i have learned so much from you
And the way you groove
We got nothin' to lose
This rhythm's hot like the sun
Don't you dare disagree
If you think so, come and join me
When you move, i move, we move
Together as one
It don't matter who you are
When we dance, we're all stars
Different in so many ways, but when we hit the stage
We all share the same thing
A dancer's heart
Turn the music up, let the rhythm move your body
No more to discuss, go and grab someone
Stranger or a friend, it don't matter in the end
Let this feelin' take over your life
When you move, i move, we move
Together as one
It don't matter who you are
When we dance, we're all stars
Different in so many ways, but when we hit the stage
We all share the same thing
A dancer's heart
When you move, i move, we move
Together as one
It don't matter who you are
When we dance, we're all stars
Different in so many ways, but when we hit the stage
We all share the same thing
A dancer's heart
Carlos was brought onto the stage by Gina as she placed a crown on his head as she finished, causing him to pull her into a hug.
Soul looked over at Seb and saw him nodding outside, causing her to nod understanding before the boy ran off.
"Soul!" Carlos exclaimed, pulling the girl into a hug, gaining her focus, causing her to grin. "You were incredible."
"Thanks," Soul said, hugging the boy back just as tight as he hugged her. "Anything for you."
"I love you so much! Forever my day one," Carlos said, pouting as he held onto the girl's arms as she smiled before pushing him back to the front as everyone once again cheered for the boy.
