fifty three

Soul stood in the middle of Southern Utah University's quads as she looked around the giant campus confused, looking for a familiar face.

The girl let out a groan as she stopped in her tracks, quickly pulling out her ringing phone from her back pocket.

"Hello." Soul answered her phone, looking around lost.

"You do know you look like a freshman on their first day of school right."

"Well you should know, Sammy. I heard you got lost on your first day here." Soul teased, glancing around. "Besides, this school is literally huge... wait can you see me?"

"Turn around, dummy."

Soul quickly spun around spotting her brother and sister not too far away, causing her to squeal as she raced towards them.

"Sam! Sarah!" Soul exclaimed, wrapping her arms around both of them pulling them into a group hug.

"We know you missed us." Sam joked, patting the girls back, causing Sarah to hit the boys arm, making him let out a chuckle.

"Hi." Sarah chuckled once they let go. "Long time no see."

"Well you guys were gone by the time I got back from camp." Soul pouted. "So it feels like it's been forever."

"I know but we had big kid responsibilities." Sam joked, causing Sarah to laugh as Soul gasped, hitting the boy's arm. "But you're here now. Let us show you around our new domain."

"Lead the way." Soul gestured the duo ahead, making Sam lead the way as Sarah looped her arm around the younger girls as she dragged her along.

...

"Then finally you have the theater building there across from the PE building." Sam spoke, pointing at both buildings, causing the girl to nod.

"Very nice." Soul admits.

"Did that change your thoughts on not not wanting to go to school?" Sarah questioned, before her twin brother leaned towards the younger girl.

"Mom wanted us to ask but honestly who cares."
"As incredible of tour guides you have been, my decision still stands." Soul informs, causing the twins to shrug.

"At Least we asked."

"Sarah there you are, we have a big problem!" Chase panicked, racing up to the group out of breath. "Soul, hey! I see you made it safely. Welcome to SUU!"

"Chase, focus." Sarah snapped her fingers in the boy's face, gaining the boy's attention. "What's the problem?"

"Right. Well our special performer for tonight's rally had to cancel. Something about a broken tour bus." Chase rambled. "So they're stuck in Texas and won't make it in time."

"No, this can't be happening." Sarah freaked out. "We promised the students a surprise performer for the end of the term celebration. There can't not be a performer!"

"Well lucky you know someone who sings and is technically well known." Sam sarcastically said, pointing at the girl beside him.

"Would you do it?" Sarah excitedly asked, grabbing her sister's hands with a giant smile. "Please."

"But I don't have a band or any dancers." Soul explained.

"Don't worry, we can get that covered." Chase reassured the girl.

"Yeah and Sarah and I know your songs by heart, we can be your band." Sam added, causing Sarah to quickly nod her head.

"Yeah, okay. I'll do it" Soul agreed, nodding her head, causing Sarah to let out a squeal, tightly wrapping her arms around the girl.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you. I owe you!" Sarah spoke, pulling away from the girl. "Okay so it's currently 12:35, so that gives us almost 5 hours to find dancers and teach them choreo."

"Leave that to me." Soul waved the girl off. "Just lead me to the dancers."

"Right this way." Chase said, motioning the girl ahead of him, causing Sarah to quickly grab the girls arm, dragging her away as Sam and Chase quickly chased after them.

...

"Then we're gonna walk." Soul spoke, watching herself and the two dancers in the mirror as they walked to the right. "Stop, turn and look over the shoulder and hold that for 1, turn all the way forward before walking sideways 3 big steps, one, two, three. Jump, slide that right foot in."

The sounding of buzzing filled the room, causing Soul to glance towards her phone seeing it lit up.

"Okay, run through that with the beginning and I'll be right back. Thanks guys." Soul spoke, causing them to nod, making the girl smile before she jogged over to her phone. "Hello."

"Soul!"

"Jamie, hi!" Soul chuckled, stepping outside of the building. "What's up?"

"So much is up! You won't believe it! Is Ms. Stella near, she'd want to hear this too!"

"She's not, I'm actually not home right now. I'm visiting Sam and Sarah in school and I'm performing at this event because their person fell through." Soul explained.

"That's actually what I wanted to talk to you about."

"Me performing at SSU?" Soul asked, confused, causing Jamie to chuckle on the phone.

"No. you perform in general. I talked to the label and your album is doing numbers. They want you out on the road as soon as possible."

"Wait, I'm going on tour?" Soul asked in disbelief.

"Even better. You're going on your own tour!"
Soul let out an exciting squeal as she jumped up and down in excitement.

"No way!" Soul spoke, covering her mouth. "I thought artists open before they headline."

"The label believes that you can sell out theaters on your own."

"Wait, so when are we talking?" Soul asked, letting out a breath. "June? July?"

"How about January."

"January? As in next month?" Soul spoke, letting out a nervous chuckle. "But I need time to rehearse and I still have the rest of my senior year to finish."

"Don't worry about that, you'll be trained and ready to hit the stage. And as of school, you'll have to get your GED so you can focus on the tour."

"Oh." Soul mumbled. "Uh, can I have some time to talk it over with my mom."

"Yeah, of course. I'll give you till the end of your musical to talk things out with Stella and then you get back to me... Soul this is what you've been working for."

"Yeah, I know. Thanks, Jamie." Soul spoke, slowly pulling the phone from her ear as she quickly hit the red button.

Soul let out a deep breath she didn't realize she was holding as she ran her hands across her face.

The sound of the door opening caught the girl's attention, causing her to quickly turn around.

"Hey, Soul. Was it step, jump, clap, cross or step, jump, cross, clap?" Stevie, one of the dancers asked, causing the girl to chuckle.

"It was actually step, step, jump, clap, cross." Soul corrected, causing the girl to make an o face before quickly nodding.

"That makes more sense." Stevie admits, causing Soul to chuckle before quickly following the boy back into the studio.

"Okay, let's try it from the top." Soul called, stepping in front. "Five, six, seven, eight!"

I have a list of all my habits, habits

...

"Now for the movement everyone has been waiting for." Chase spoke into the mic to the crowd, causing them to cheer. "Here to perform some of her songs from straight off the charts for us, from our very own Utah, give it up for Soul Walker!"

"You ready?" Sarah asked, looking over at her sister as she placed the guitar over her shoulder.

"Yeah, let's do this!" Soul nodded, giving her siblings a fist bump before they all made their way onto the stage.

Only think about him on the weekdays and weekends
Only in the mornings and evening
Only when I wake up or sleep in, oh my God
Should've read the warning on the label, I don't
Said, "Proceed with caution", but I won't
Guess I do it often, I know I'm already gone

It's sad but true
I'd go to hell and back if I could go there with you
What do I do?

Oh my God, I'm a fool
Keep on coming back to you
I'm so stupid for you
I'm so stupid for you
You're so bad for my health
But I just can't help myself
I'm so stupid for you
I'm so stupid for you

I have a list of all my habits, habits
Wish I didn't have it so bad, it's
'Cause all of them are you and the bad things that you do
Ooh, I wonder how you do it, make me feel stupid
Try to fight it off but it's useless
I'm so foolish foolin' around with you

It's sad but true
I'd go to hell and back if I could go there with you
What do I do?

Oh my God, I'm a fool
Keep on coming back to you
I'm so stupid for you
I'm so stupid for you
You're so bad for my health
But I just can't help myself
I'm so stupid for you
I'm so stupid for you

I'm so stupid for you
For you, for you
I'm so stupid for you
For you, for you

It's sad but true
I'd go to hell and back if I could go there with you
What do I do?

Oh my God, I'm a fool
Keep on coming back to you
I'm so stupid for you
I'm so stupid for you
You're so bad for my health
But I just can't help myself
I'm so stupid for you
I'm so stupid for you

I'm so stupid for you
For you, for you
I'm so stupid for you
For you, for you

As the music faded the crowd cheered loudly, Soul couldn't help but to smile, waving at the crowd as she made it to the center stage as people cheered for the girl.

"Hi, guys." Soul softly spoke, causing the girl to chuckle as the cheers got louder. "Thank you so much for having me, I'm so excited to be here. I hope it's okay that I sing a few songs for you guys that are very dear to me. Funny story is that I write almost all of my songs in my bedroom so being here singing them for you guys is just an insane feeling. I hope you guys enjoy! Um, this next one is off my debut album, this is, she's all I wanna be."

...

"SSU, thank you so much!" Soul exclaimed, waving at the crowd as the last song faded as she made her way off the side stage.

"That was literally so much fun!" Kerrington cheered, causing Stevie to quickly nod in agreement once the group made it backstage.

"You guys were a-mazing!" Soul gushed.

"Thank you both so much, for doing this on such short notice." Sarah expressed. "I owe you both."

"Nah, don't worry about it." Stevie waved the blonde girl off. "We had fun. Besides this was literally an experience of a lifetime. Any dancer would jump at the chance to do what we just did."

"Well I really appreciate it. I will definitely call you both first if I see any dancer positions open up for anything." Soul promised, causing them both to grin.

"We would really appreciate that. Thank you." Stevie grinned before the dancing duo disappeared backstage.

"I must admit that was a rush." Sam spoke nonchalantly as a smile grew on his face. "I can see why you'd rather be on the stage. You look confident up there."

"You literally looked like a superstar. I mean Taylor Swift who." Sarah teased, causing Soul to chuckle.

"I don't know about all that. I mean no one does it like mother." Soul shook her head. "But it was amazing being up on that stage. Especially with you guys as my band."

"Yeah, well don't get used to it." Sam pointed at the girl with a straight face before the corner of his mouth shifted up.

"Hey, your phone has been blowing up with text all night." Chase approached the trio, handing the younger girl her phone.

Soul clicks the home button, revealing multiple texts from Miss Jenn and Emmy, causing her smile to fall.

"Everything okay?" Sarah questioned, tapping the girl's arm, causing her to look up.

"Uh, I'm not sure. I should be getting home though." Soul answered, putting her phone into her back pocket, pulling her sister into a hug. "I have stayed longer than expected."

"You're leaving right now?" Sam asked as the girl pulled him into a hug.

"Yeah, it's only like a 2 hour drive, I'll be home before 10." Soul explained, smiling at the duo. "Besides I have school and rehearsals tomorrow that I can not miss."

"Well, alright. Please be safe." Sarah advised the girl, causing her to quickly nod.

"I promise. I always am." Soul blew them a kiss, slinging her bag over her arm as she walked backwards. "Love you, bye!"

Soul quickly rushed out of the theater as she ran through the campus towards her car.
