"Come on slowpoke we're already late." Soul chuckled, pulling EJ through Ashlyn's door by his arm.
"Haha, very funny Soul." EJ said sarcastically, closing the door behind him, before smiling big as he greeted his cousin. "Hello, Hello."
"Oh, hey." Ashlyn greeted, pulling EJ into a giant hug.
"Hey. I brought some lobster dip and a bottle of forty-year old Balsamic."EJ said, pulling away from the hug as he handed the two things over as he confessed. "I double-dipped in there a couple times on the drive over and I feel bad about that but I feel great about telling you."
"Cool. I'm Ashlyn and you are..." Ashlyn questioned, sarcastically.
"Mental." Soul joked, causing Ashlyn to pull the girl into hug like she did EJ. "Hey Ash."
"I'm actually on a mission, Ash." EJ said, causing Soul to step back beside him as he jokingly bumped her shoulder causing her to chuckle.
Ashlyn soon walked away laughing as EJ pulled out his phone that had a girl named Emily still on the screen; EJ said that she was from Theatre Camp from over the summer and he explained the Devil Egg situation with Nini.
"Hey, Emily, you still there?" EJ asked the girl on the screen.
"EJ, I promised my grandma I would sing for everyone after dinner so I have to go." Emily explained.
"Yeah, hang on just one second.I just got to find Nini." EJ explained to the girl causing him to look away from the phone as he looked around for Nini, causing Soul to nudged EJ as Nini approached us.
"Hey." They both greeted at the same time.
"Hey." Nini greeted with a chuckle, quickly clearing her throat as soon as EJ turned his phone around to face her. "Oh, my gosh. Emily."
"No, it's okay. She knows about the deviled egg." EJ explained, causing Nini to look at him in shock not knowing what to say. "I'm trying to make amends these days, Nini. And she was fine with everything. She laughed"
"Uh, this is a lot at once." Nini said, chuckling nervously.
"Hey, I have to go join the party and admit some terrible things." EJ explained, handing Nini his phone as he began walking away. "You ladies catch up."
"I'm going to make sure he doesn't do anything stupid." Soul said, sending Nini one last smile before following the direction to see EJ sitting in a chair, quickly scooting over so there was enough room before pulling the girl down onto the chair beside him.
"Were you just going to stand there?" EJ questioned, sarcastically with a grin.
"To think of it, it was quite nice standing there looking for a seat." Soul said sarcastically, causing them both to crack up.
Soul looked away from EJ to take a glimpse to see who was here and noticed that everyone except Ricky and Gina; even Sam was here like he said this morning.
Soul shot him a quick smile before her eyes focused on a giant red board game sitting in the center of table, letting out a gasp looking over at Carlos.
"Is it finally the day that I am actually allowed to play this beautiful masterpiece?" Soul questioned, looking directly at the boy on the floor beside her.
"It is indeed!" Carlos said excitedly, causing them to laugh together.
"What exactly is it?" EJ asked, looking over the game causing Soul and Carlos to grin big at each other.
"High School Musical, The Choosical." They said together, high fiving.
"Soul, you know what this is?" Ashyln questioned, guestering towards the game noticing that everyone in the room was watching her and Carlos.
"Of course!" Soul explained. "When me and Carlos first met during dance years ago, we hung out a lot over at his place so he showed and explained the game to me."
"So how do you play?" EJ questioned.
....
Not long after Carlos got done explaining the rules to EJ, Ricky and Gina walked in and everyone separated into two teams.
Let's just say The Wildcats are the superior team which consists of Soul, EJ, Nini, Seb, Sully, Carter, Georgie, Mara and two of the dancers. While on the Knights there was Ricky, Gina, Sam, Sarah, Ashlyn, Big Red, Zak, Wyatt and the other two dancers that came, while Carlos was the judge.
"Okay, okay, you guys. Okay. There are four basic categories." Carlos explained pointing at each deck as he said them. "The Getcha Head in the Frame Trivia Challenge... The Bop Till You Drop Dance Challenge, Sync to the Status Quo Lip Sync Challenge... and Looking for Glee, which I thought would be a fun name for the singing challenge because I was obsessed with the show."
"Hey it still holds up." EJ explained, after everyone shared a laugh.
"Oh. Good. I thought you guys were gonna judge me." Carlos explained, laughing before turning to the Knights. "Okay, so Knights, you won the coin toss, so you guys get to pick the first challenge."
They all quickly turned to discuss as the topic 'Looking for Glee' was mentioned a few times before they all turned back to Carlos.
"Okay, we're gonna look for Glee." Ashlyn announced to Carlos.
"Excellent." Carlos said, pulling a card from the top of the deck before turning back to the Knights, clearing his throat. "As fast as you can, please sing the lyrics to What I've Been Looking For to the rhythm of Getcha Head in the Game."
Let's just say it was an A for effort...
"That was terrible." EJ laughed, shaking his head at the Knights.
"I'm so happy." Seb added, while laughing very hard.
"Congratulations, you get to move four spaces closer to center stage at East High." Carlos explained, as Big Red quickly moved the Knight forward four spaces.
"They get four spaces for that?" EJ questioned as Carlos turned to our team.
"Okay, Wildcats, take a spin." Carlos said as EJ leaned forward spinning the wheel as everyone discussed what they wanted to choose.
"Alright we're going to Bop." EJ announced.
"Okay, pick one member from each team." Carlos said pointing to both teams causing us to discuss.
"I think EJ should go." Soul said to the team. "I mean it technically is his turn."
"Yeah, I feel like it's gotta be EJ." Nini agreed.
"I think I should..." EJ said pointing at himself as he stood up. "I got it."
At the same time EJ stood up from the chair, directly across from us the one and only Ricky Bowen also stood up causing everyone to look between the two.
"Your challenge is to stare at your partner and do the Sharpay and Ryan warm-up thing for 60 seconds straight without laughing." Carlos explained looking back and forth at the two boys. "..Or killing each other. Okay. GO!"
"Brr! Brr! Brr!" Both EJ and Ricky did nsync causing the entire group to burst out into laughter as they went back and forth sounding like idiots.
....
"Okay, you guys according to the Musical Choosical Handbook of Rulesicals..." Carlos started.
"Stop it." EJ said, jokingly.
"Hey! I came up with that!" Soul said, looking up at EJ who was now sitting on the arm of the chair while leaning around the girl, causing everyone to laugh.
"Of course you did." Sully jokingly said, now being the one sitting beside his sister causing her to bump his shoulder jokingly.
"The only way to resolve a tie at the end of regulation play is with a lighting speed round of Getcha Head in the Frame trivia questions." Carlos explained, picking up the deck. "Are you ready? Because people have been known to cry during this."
"I thought you had never actually played this..." Seb said.
"Honey, not today of all days." Carlos said to Seb before turning back to everyone. "Okay, here we go. Name both jersey numbers Troy wears in the movie."
"Oh, uh... Fourteen and Ten." Big Red said confidently.
"How did you know that?" Ashlyn asked, impressed by the red headed boy beside her. "I didn't even know that."
"Correct." Carlos said, flipping to the next card. "How does Gabriella describe herself when she's complaining to her mom?"
"As the school's freaky genius girl!" Sarah said, excitedly.
"And do people usually talk like that?" Carlos asked, pointing at her.
"They do not." Sarah answered.
"Correct!" Carlos said, once again flipping to the next card turning to the wildcats team. "Wildcats. Whose red tie does Ms. Darbus compliment at auditions?"
"What's his name?" Soul said to herself, snapping her fingers, looking over at Sully, causing him to shrug as she was trying to remember then it hit her.
"Allen!" Soul exclaimed at the same time EJ said it in more of a question form.
"Yes!" Carlos exclaimed, causing Soul to cheer high fiving EJ.
"Hey Soul and EJ!" Nini complimented.
"I looked it up on my phone, you guys. I can't stop cheating and I'm sorry!" EJ admitted, waving his phone in his hand, causing Soul to snatch it and put it under her leg.
"He should be disqualified!" Wyatt complained, while everyone shook their heads.
"Hey, but I still got it though! And I did not cheat! I knew it fair and square!" Soul said, pointing at Wyatt, turning to look at Carlos. "Does that count at all?"
"I'll be kind and give you guys half a point since Soul technically did get it correct." Carlos said, turning to the Knights. "Well, the West High Knights have a chance to steal. What is the name of the girl who pops and locks?"
"I love to pop and lock and jam and break." Gina said, quoting the movie as she also did the moves as she said the words. "Martha Cox!"
"Yes! Whoo! West High Knights Win!" Carlos exclaimed, throwing pieces of confetti into the air. "You, my dear, get this homemade Scholastic Decathlon ribbon. Careful, it's a straight pin and was never sanitized."
"Wait, okay, everybody, get in." Gina said, pulling out her phone turning on her camera causing everyone to try and squeeze into the picture. "Okay, hold on, I have to share this honor with my loved ones."
Let's just say Gina called her mom and the conversation didn't sound to good as Gina left the room heading up the stairs probably to the bathroom causing the room to go silent.
"So what now?" Georgie questioned, as everyone looked around at each other.
"What do theatre kids know how to do best?" Ashlyn questioned, causing everyone to look at her. "Sing of course!"
"You know what that's a great idea Ashlyn!" EJ said, a little too excitedly, placing his hand on Soul's, making her look up at him. "You know Soul here just finished a new song that she was writing."
"Um, i'm not sure about that." Soul said, sending the group a small smile, trying to avoid any types of eye contact with anyone.
"You should sing it!" Sam encouraged his from beside Sarah on the other side of the room. "I'm sure everyone would love to hear it."
Everyone started mumbling in agreement causing Soul to look from Sam to Sully both sending her encouraging smiles, Soul looked over at Sarah who actually sent her a smile.
"Um, yeah okay." Soul said, standing up from the chair, giving EJ one more look before making her way over to the piano that was conveniently sitting in Ashlyn's living room, taking a seat. "Well this is a song I recently wrote and this is called Happy Face."
I'd barely seen you when you asked me if I hated you
Wasn't surprise but still had nothing I could say to you
I'm sorry if I ever made you feel the way you do
Yeah, I know I know you better than your parents
I heard about them you don't gotta be embarrassed
You go online 'cause it's where you can be the saddest
You've been acting careless
Know you put on a happy face
You need someone's who gonna stay
I know you're crushed under the weight
Wanna hold you up, wanna hold you up
You keep things bottled up inside
I wish you'd give someone a try
You feel apart a million times
Wanna hold you up, wanna hold you up
Before my heart gives out
You're losing track of all the friends I know you use to have
Don't know what happened but the old you wasn't half as bad
I'm sorry no one sees what's going on inside your head
Yeah, I know I know you better than your parents
I heard about them you don't gotta be embarrassed
You go online 'cause it's where you can be the saddest
You've been acting careless
Know you put on a happy face
You need someone's who gonna stay
I know you're crushed under the weight
Wanna hold you up, wanna hold you up
You keep things bottled up inside
I wish you'd give someone a try
You fell apart a million times
Wanna hold you up, wanna hold you up
Before my heart gives out
Before anyone had the chance to say anything, Soul noticed that Gina was standing in the doorway and as soon as they made eye contact she turned around and made her way out the door, causing Soul to quickly followed after her.
"Gina" Soul called, causing Gina to slowly turn around as Soul quickly caught up to her and noticed the tears falling down her face. "Are you okay."
"No, no I'm not" Gina admitted, wiping the tears from her eyes. "This was supposed to be our permanent place until I graduated high school but now I only have ten days left. I don't want to leave yet. Not Salt Lake, not East High, not the musical..."
"Yeah..." Soul said as they both stood there in silence. "Look I'm so sorry for being such a bad friend..."
"No, I should be the one appolgizing." Gina said, cutting her off. "I shouldn't have told everyone what was going on at home that was truly stupid of me. I am also sorry about Ricky."
"Why would you be sorry about Ricky?" Soul questioned.
"I knew how much you liked him and I was a reason why that never happened and I feel very bad about it and I am sorry." Gina explained, looking down. "You really were the best friend I've ever had."
"You were the best friend I've had in a long time and I really needed that in my life. Besides you weren't the only one that messed up this friendship." Soul admitted. "I wasn't being a good friend either, I should have come and talked to you but instead I stayed away which now that I think about it that was dumbest thing I could have done."
"I would hate to be leaving, knowing that I caused you pain and never fixed it." Gina said. "So friends?
"Of course." Soul said, smiling as she wrapped her arms around the taller girl, pulling her into a hug as she felt some of her tears on her shoulder before pulling away. "Hey, how would you feel about a sleepover?"
"I would honestly really love that." Gina admitted, sending her a big smile.
"Shall we?" Soul asked, sticking her arm out.
"We shall." Gina chuckled, looping her arm around Soul's and they made our their to the Porter home.
