It's not the future your afraid of
It's the fear of the past
Repeating itself that
Haunts you

It was a beautiful day outside. So sunny and so bright that the flowers shook with joy. A little boy was outside, playing with a stray dog that just seems to find it's way to his house every once in a while. The boy was young, very young. His bouncy golden brown hair bounced up and down while he chased the little black dog. His clothes have many wrinkles, but that's only because the person who usually washes his clothes is sick.
His mother.
She's been sick for awhile now and Jeno has gotten used to the fact that he can't eat hot meals like other kids at dinner time, that he can't have someone push him on the swing when he wants to feel like flying, and whenever he feels down has no one to cheer him up. He knows that whenever he comes home from school he's not met with hugs and kisses. He knows that when he gets hurt no ones there to heal him up with sweet words. He knows that he can't see his mother certain times of the day and knows that his father goes out every night to get drunk, and doesn't come back until tomorrow. He knows all these things, and yet he still wants to have a happy family. A family that eats together at dinner time. Plays together. Is happy together.
It starts to get dark out and he secretly puts the little black dog in his backyard, his father would never allow a dog inside the house. His mother is allergic to them, but mostly because he doesn't wanna have to deal with it. He's always wanted a dog, wanted a companion. The boy doesn't have many friends at school, and gets bullied sometimes for being quiet. Sometimes he comes home from school with bruises from being pushed around or hit with backpacks. And no ones there to save him, protect him, tell him that "it will be okay", but he knows well that no one would protect and lonely and sad boy like him. Nobody wants to deal with emotional people.
He walks into the house and sees that his dad isn't in his usual spot in the living room. He guessed that he went to the bar already. He quickly takes his shoes off and goes upstairs to where his mother is resting. He slowly opens the door and peeks in. A small frame moves from up and down, taking slow breaths. Sleeping. His mother sleeps all day everyday, he thought it helps. But after all this he only wished he'd done something.
"Mommy?.." he whispered and entered the cold room. He slowly made his way towards the small woman and gave her arm the smallest push with his small hands. She gave a small groan and slowly rolled over to face her little boy. She gave a small smile as her eyes turned into little crescents.
"What are you doing in here baby?" She said softly. If you didn't hear closely then you wouldn't hear her at all.
"I came to check on you. Daddy already left and I'm lonely...it's raining outside.." He said slowly. She just kept on smiling and pulled out a skinny arm to touch her sons hair. She pulled his soft hair behind his tiny ears and cupped his small cheeks. He still has his innocent eyes and face on display. Then she frowned.
"What are the rules about the outside Jeno?" She asked softly. She does this every time- before he goes outside and after he comes in. It's the rules she made me remember so that she can protect him, even if she's not physically here with him.
"Don't go with strangers- don't take food from strangers- don't play with stray animals- and don't leave the front or back of the house." He said.
"That's right. Your so smart." She said in a whisper. He gave the same eye smile she had on display and gave a little giggle.
But then he stopped and showed a frown. His mother noticed.
"What wrong baby?" She looked like she was about to fall asleep again.
"Mommy..when will you get up and come play with me?" He asked on the verge of tears.
Her eyes were full of pain but softly gave a smile.
"Soon baby...soon...." she said- before she fell asleep once again.
"Mommy?..." The boy asked. He displayed a sad face once he realized she had fallen asleep again. He slowly left the room and went to his room. All he had in his room were a few toy cars and his bed which didn't even have a frame. It was cold. It was always cold. He settled himself into his bed and lied down on his side, cuddling himself and covering himself with his thin blanket.
Then a thunder boomed over his house.
A lighting strike hit the earth.
More followed.
Every each one of them made the little boy jump in fear- in hopes of it all stopping. He cried himself to sleep, almost like he does every night.
But that's when chaos started.
He was awoken by screaming, so much screaming. He instantly sat up only to have his door slammed open and his father pulling him up. He was so lost in it all until he realized what was happening.
His house was on fire. All of it. His father was yelling but he couldn't hear- he couldn't here anything. It went all silent. Then all he could think about was his mother. He felt being lifted up by his father as he ran through the fire. The little boy was frozen in shock as he started at everything around him. His home- his bed- the only place in the world that felt like he belonged was being torn down, wall by wall. He felt his father putting him down, only to be grabbed by other people. Pushing him back from the flames that are destroying his house. He saw his father run inside only to be pushed back by people in red and yellow suits. The boy started crying. He heard people around him shushing him kindly and trying to calm him, but that lead him to only crying more.
Where was his mother.
Where was she.
He frantically looked around only to see more people in those red and yellow suits. He cried and cried as he didn't see the angel he saw just a few hours ago. Tears rolled down his cheeks. Thinking that his mother had burned in those horrid flames, that have now demolished his house. His run down but beautiful house. Full of memories. Full of his clothes- his things. Everything.
It was all gone.
That was until he noticed a bunch of woman in white pushing a bed on wheels towards a big truck. He ran towards them as he recognized his mother. His mother was alive. But what he didn't expect to see her in red. All in red.
Blood.
She was covered in blood.
Her middle was soaked in it. He cried to her and tried to see her more but was only pulled back by others. He struggled and fought to see his mother. He cried and even screamed. He wanted his mother. He needed her. He needed to see her. He need her to tell him that everything will be okay. That she'll be fine.
Then he saw his father and embraced him as he ran into his arms. The little boy cried more. He tried to ask where his mommy was but he couldn't see anything from all the tears. He couldn't hear anything from all the sirens. He was in destress as his dad ran into the car. Didn't even bother putting on the seatbelt and drove right after the ambulance that held his wife, and the little boys mother. He was holding the still crying boy. Who was in shock and from so much crying.
His father all the sudden stopped the car and ran out. The little boy in his arms looked up to see they were at the hospital. The place that he knew his mother hated most. He hated it too.
And he would see why soon.
The little boys dad ran inside and didn't try to sign in. He dropped the little distressed boy off in a waiting room and told him to wait- before he ran out of the room down the hall. The little boy stopped crying as he was all alone in the little room that his dad had dropped him off in. He desperately wanted to see his mother. He wanted to see she was ok.
But just when he thoughts things couldn't get any worse his father came in. With the most saddest face he's seen his whole life. And he just stood there. Looking at the floor.
"Daddy?..." the boy whispered.
The said man looked up at the little boy infront of him. And broke down in tears as he kneeled before him.
"I'm so sorry- I'm sorry son-" he kept crying.
"Daddy what happened? Where's mommy?" He cried and went up to his dad.
"Shes- she didn't- she's not gonna make it-" He studdered over words And was still hunched over crying.
The boys world stopped. It all stopped. Then he broke into more tears and ran out of the room as his father called for him. He ran through the people in white waking around and looked through every room to find his mother. He kept yelling for her- just hoping she would hear him. And come out. And say she was okay.
He looked inside one room after another, desperately trying to find his mother. And he did. He saw her in one of the rooms and ran inside. One of the nurses tried to take hold of him but the one beside her held her- preventing her from stopping the little boy. She probably noticed that it was her son.
The small boy ran up to his mother and tried to jump up to see her. One of the nurses- almost in tears- lowered the bed. The little boy instantly jumped into it and grabbed his mother hand. She was covered in blood, from her middle to her collar bones. She let tears flow as she saw her son.
"Mommy please don't go! Please don't leave me! Please don't leave me!" He begged while tears ran down his face.
"Please be good. Remember the rules baby..I love you my son..don't forget me...i love you..." she said. And he saw her close her eyes slowly, but not before he said her sons name.
"Jeno"
